FRIDAY 20TH NOVEMBER JUMP SEASON OPENER OFFICIAL RACE PROGRAMME & FORM GUIDE
WELCOME TO CATTERICK On behalf of everyone at Catterick Racecourse I would like my best wishes to all of you receiving this racecard. Today sees the start of our 2020/21 jumps season and it is starting in very unusual circumstances. While we are very fortunate to be racing, it is with great sadness that we cannot welcome you all to attend and enjoy the day with us. The occasion is certainly greatly diminished by the lack of enthusiastic owners and racegoers and we hope that we will be able to welcome you back very soon. The end of the previous jumps season was prior to the cessation of racing on March 18th and I don’t think any of us envisaged the current pandemic lasting this long. We are looking forward to some great racing today with very competitive fields, and would like to thank all those owners that continue to support us with horses even though their raceday entertainment may be greatly diminished. We would also like to welcome the current Champion Jockey, Brian Hughes. I hope that you will all be able to enjoy the occasion via Racing TV and maybe have a flutter, but most importantly stay safe and healthy.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

RACE FACTS Leading course trainer (15-20): D McCain (26 wins from 153 runners, 17%) runs KILLANE Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): N Henderson (11 wins from 45 runners, 24%) runs THE BOMBER LISTON Longest Traveller: THE BOMBER LISTON trained by N Henderson, Lambourn, 235 miles.
TODAY’S TIP THE BOMBER LISTON proved more inexperienced than the market suggested when third at Ffos Las a month ago. That was still a promising start, and with above-average improvement expected, he looks the way to go. Flammarion displayed a nice turn of foot when successful at Ayr and is feared under a penalty, with Gregor perhaps the pick of the newcomers. 1-2-3: 1.THE BOMBER LISTON (IRE) 2.FLAMMARION (GER) 3.GREGOR (FR) Br Breeding
