THE INTERNATIONAL FRIDAY 11 DECEMBER 2020

Easysland, winner of the 2019 Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase on Day One of The International

THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOMES YOU

Welcome to day one of The International, our fi nal meeting of the year. We are delighted to be able to welcome a limited number of spectators back to the Home of Jump Racing and wish you all a thoroughly enjoyable and safe day with us. The next two days look set to be full of fantastic racing, with the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase taking centre stage this afternoon. Unlike other years, you will not be able to head into the centre of the course, but you’ll be able to enjoy the thrill of the action from the racecourse stands. This year, we are delighted to stage the rescheduled Fitzdares Club Loves The Peterborough Chase that could not be raced at Huntingdon last weekend. It is a wonderful race, and we are pleased to have been able to ensure it can take place this year. We would like to take a moment to remember a great friend, and supporter of the racecourse. Michael Roberts sadly passed away a few weeks ago, and was Chairman of today’s race sponsor CF Roberts for 50 years. We’d like to send our best wishes to all who knew Michael, his friends and family. He will be a much missed face around the racecourse. As ever, our thanks go to today’s sponsors; Fitzdares, Glenfarclas, Catesby, CF Roberts Electrical & Mechanical Services, Unibet, British EBF and CITIPOST. We thank you all for your continued support and wish you a wonderful day. We hope everyone that is able to join us today enjoys being back on course, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding of all our Covid-19 safety measures we have in place. We look forward to being able to share a fantastic day with you. MARTIN ST QUINTON

IAN RENTON

Regional Director

DON'T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETING - SATURDAY 12 DECEMBER THE INTERNATIONAL - DAY 2 Christmas comes early to Cheltenham every year, with the greatest gift of them all: two days of quality racing action at the Home of Jump Racing. With the festive season about to enter the home straight, Cheltenham regulars rarely leave the racecourse without a spring in their step from The International meeting. With an overseas flare in the cross country race, and a Gold Cup of its own, the race meeting is a highlight of the Christmas racing calendar and kick starts the festive sporting season.

MICHAEL ROBERTS Michael was Group Chairman of today’s race sponsor CF Roberts and directed the business for over 50 years. He was a huge racing enthusiast, both sides of the Irish Sea and has been a friend, loyal supporter and sponsor of Cheltenham Racecourse for over 25 years. Many raucous celebrations have been had in his box over the years, with Michael always taking much amusement when sharing stories. CF Roberts were a key partner of ours in helping to deliver our redevelopment in 2015; including installing our electrical & mechanical services within The Princess Royal Stand and ancillary areas. Michael will be a very missed face at Cheltenham Racecourse and we thank him, his family and the team for all the wonderful memories.

A very competitive renewal of this Grade 2, rerouted from Huntingdon. FANION D’ESTRUVAL has a bit to find with a few of these on form, but he made a bright start to the season when runner-up in a strong handicap here and this low-mileage 5-y-o may well improve now upped in trip.
