WELCOME
TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE
SKY BET CHASE DAY AT DONCASTER Thank you for joining us from the comfort of your own home for a thrilling afternoon with today’s seven race-card, with the feature race today being The Sky Bet Handicap Chase, ready for the off at 3.15pm I begin by thanking todays sponsors, Sky Bet, Albert Bartlett and Irish Thoroughbred Marketing for their kind support of todays’ meeting. We have a great afternoon ahead. With the prestigious Sky Bet Handicap Chase anchoring todays card. Run over 3 miles, this race was first run in 1948 and has seen its winners deliver future success both at Cheltenham and the Grand National. Today favourite is Cap Du Nord, trained by Christian Williams as he continues his journey towards the 2021 Grand National 2020 delivered Nicky Henderson his first Sky Bet Handicap Chase win with OK Corral. This year he has Shishkin running in the Irish Thoroughbred Market Lightning Novices Chase at 1.30, ahead of this years’ Arkle Challenge Trophy at Cheltenham in March. The other hot race today is the Irish Thoroughbred Market Yorkshire Roses Mares Hurdle, which has some great talent on show, and looks like it will be tightly contested, so well worth checking out the form. Where ever you find yourself today we hope you find the time to join us on, follow us on social media to feel a bit closer to the behind closed-door action. Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

HORSE WELFARE COMES FIRST AT DONCASTER At every race meeting at Doncaster our top priority is the safety and welfare of both horse and rider. We have a dedicated team of highly qualified vets and doctors following the action at all times and a horse ambulance in attendance at every meeting. Use of Screens It is our policy to erect green screens around any horse requiring veterinary attention. This does NOT reflect the severity of any injury, but does help to provide a calm environment, in which the vet is better able to treat the horse. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse!
