WELCOME & OFFICIALS
Fakenham RACECOURSE
WELCOME I am delighted to welcome the owners, trainers, horses, jockeys, BHA officials, professional staff and all of the dedicated and loyal casual staff to today’s ‘Racing with a Limited Crowd’ race meeting. I am particularly pleased that we are able to have Fakenham annual members who have been starved of racing over the past year. Their support, commitment and loyalty to Fakenham is tremendous and having them with us today gives a real boost to the moral of all Fakenham’s hard work and dedicated staff. We continue to live and work in strange and challenging times but let us all hope that things get better in the New Year. In the meantime, enjoy today’s racing, good luck, stay safe and have a Very Happy Christmas. BHA RATINGS The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.

LAST TIME AT FAKENHAM
Fakenham RACECOURSE
Tuesday 4th May 2021
Our last meeting was sponsored by Snelling’s raceday and boy was it an action packed day. Six races on perfect summer ground it threw up some brilliant racing and some suprising results!
Our last meeting was sponsored by Snelling’s raceday and boy was it an action packed day. Six races on perfect summer ground it threw up some brilliant racing and some suprising results! The day kicked off with an Open Selling Handicap Hurdle. Run over two miles, Staithes set a steady gallop under valuable claimer Tabitha Worsley. The complexion of the race changed when Malina Ocarina took a heavy fall three out and It left just the three runners for the rest of the race. Ar Mest was well fancied for the race before the off and coming round the home turn took it up, Jamie Moore looked full of confidence and he went onto win by an eased down by 10 lengths. Race two was a lot closer than our first and it went right down to the last fence. Christian Williams could not believe his luck, as he watched his two runners in first and second coming down to the last couple of fences. Barden Bella travelled strongly up with the pace and took it up but was stalked by stable companion Joey Steel. Jack Tudor was excellent in the saddle and pushed his mount right out to take a narrow victory. The Maiden Hurdle saw short priced favourite Tossapenny overturned by Jamie Snowden’s Bucko’s Boy. Page
Fuller set excellent fractions from the front and once the button was pressed there was more than enough to accelerate away from his toiling rivals. Tossaspenny looked very one paced in behind the runaway leader and lost second in the shadows of the post. It was the turn of trainer Max Young and jockey Jason Dixon in our fourth race of the afternoon. It was a tight knit affair in the 0-100 on paper, but Jason Dixon made good use of his 7lb claim to fend of his rivals. Top Beak outjumped Crem Fresh at the last and this extra momentum carried him to his second victory in his last three starts.
The feature race of the day was the Snellings Norfolk National, run over the marathon trip of 3m 5f. There would be no hiding placed, and four of the field were pulled up before the race finished. Peter and James Bowen teamed up with Game Line to take victory despite a sketchy jump at the last. He travelled sweetly throughout and was well found in the market. Strictlyadancer for Christian Williams was disappointing and perhaps the season had just caught up on him on this occasion.
The final race of the day saw the Turner Trophy ‘Grassroots’ Hunter Chase. Only five went to post to try and break their maiden tag and it was one for the favourite backers as Tullys Touch came home the easy victor. He had previously finished third over course and distance on his last start over rules, so it was quite fitting that he should get his head in front. Laser Beam tended to jump out to his right, which ultimately cost him any say in the finish.

DYNAMIC KATE took a big step forward on her handicap bow when fourth at Taunton and Neil Mulholland’s lightly-raced sort can capitalise on a 2lb drop in the weights and open her account. Top Beak has a PLAY SMARTER career-high mark to overcome but this C&D scorer rates the obvious threat, although Shortcross Storm is another who can have a big say if the headgear ekes out a bit more improvement again.
