AFTERNOON RACEDAY THURSDAY 3 JUNE 2021

WELCOME It looks like summer has finally arrived and I am pleased to welcome all racegoers back to our second afternoon of racing where we are able to open the turnstiles again to you all. The other great news today is that we have a divided race and so have a packed card of eight races to take in and enjoy. Our thanks go to today’s sponsors in the European Breeders Fund who continues to support us so well over a large number of our fixtures and our sister company, the Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park, our very own on-site hotel which I know many of you are visiting and enjoying. It’s great to see so many staying again in this fantastic facility so close to the track and grounds both for business reasons and for pleasure. Even with the current restrictions indoors for dining, the breakfast in the morning is well worth the quick queue to set you up for the day ahead. If you haven’t been in yet, please give the team a call or jump on the Hilton App to book a well-earned night away? On the track today race 2 and 3 are the divisions of the Hamilton-park.co.uk Novice Stakes. It just shows how many horses are ready for their first run to win with nine runners in each division, with Paul Mulrennan, Jason Hart and Andrew Mullen all fancying their chances in both races. Today’s feature race, the Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park Clyde Handicap, a class 2 sprint over 6f, sees last week’s winner Illusionist from Grant Tuer’s yard back in action, but Jim Goldie’s Call me Ginger won’t want to be second to him again. As the First Minister has kept South Lanarkshire in Level 2, we have the same facilities open to customers today as we were able to offer last Wednesday. Having approval to operate as a “medium sized” venue, we are again balancing the number of people we can welcome in to our outdoor site, with the facilities we can offer safely. Owners who have kept their horses in training throughout lockdown and visit us today will be welcomed back into the Parade Ring (subject to capacity and remaining in prescribed areas) which I know they really enjoyed last week after the very long wait. We are also able to welcome guests into hospitality suites where the rules are very similar to those we are seeing on the High Street, whereby masks may be removed to eat and drink and patrons are encouraged to remain at their allocated tables throughout the day. Outdoors we are happy to welcome up to 1,000 racegoers to enjoy the open grounds of our racecourse that look so well. Today, we are offering hot and soft drinks for sale, together with hot and cold food from the outdoor vendor units. After today we will be reviewing how this and last week’s fixture went with our local Safety Advisory Group at South Lanarkshire Council and hope to be able to introduce the sale of alcohol outdoors for general racegoers from next week’s fixture on 9 June. We will keep you all posted via our website and social media channels. Thank you again for playing your part today, keeping a safe distance from each other, and so enabling us to hold a safe and enjoyable race meeting for as many people as possible. It was great to see so many of you last week and going by the ticket sales we should have a good attendance here today too to enjoy the day. Keep safe and good luck picking a winner today! Kind regards, VIVIEN CURRIE MBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE

1.35p.m. THE HAMILTON-PARK.CO.UK NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 5) (DIV I)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This contest is another novice stakes and also run over a distance of six furlongs. There are a variety of reasons why the three-year-olds and upwards in this race are still light on experience. Stoutly bred horses are unlikely to be seen at their best over the shorter distances of their juvenile season whilst a setback or injury can curtail even the most precociously bred horse’s two-year-old career.

FOR NOVICE THREE YRS OLD AND UPWARDS NUMBER OF DECLARED RUNNERS 9

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): R Fahey (38 wins from 274 runners, 14%) runs COOPERATION Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): D O’Meara (8 wins from 64 runners, 12%) runs GENERAL SAGO Longest Traveller: GENERAL SAGO trained by D O’Meara, Upper Helmsley, 208 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 9-4 Cooperation (IRE), 3-1 Lightening Company (IRE), General Sago (IRE), 9-2 Bannow (GB), 40-1 Bobby Shaftoe (GB), 66-1 Vellco’s Boy (GB), 100-1 Sleight (GB), 250-1 Earn Your Stripes (GB), 300-1 Gleaming Maize (GB) RACE SUMMARY: Conditions were testing when LIGHTENING COMPANY made a winning debut (a rare winning newcomer for his yard) over a trip just shy of 7f at Carlisle. However, there’s no real reason to believe that he won’t prove equally effective at this trip on better ground and he earns the vote. With General Sago due to run at Ripon on Wednesday evening, Cooperation is clear second choice ahead of Bannow. 1-2-3: 1.LIGHTENING COMPANY (IRE) 2.COOPERATION (IRE) 3.BANNOW STEWARDS NOTE: VELLCO’S BOY: Following its run on 17/5/2021 it was reported that the horse hung left handed. BANNOW: Following its run on 23/4/2021 it was reported that the horse hung right under pressure. EARN YOUR STRIPES: Following its run on 27/5/2021 it was reported that the horse was very slowly away.

Third Race

2.10p.m.

THE HAMILTON-PARK.CO.UK NOVICE STAKES (CLASS 5) (DIV II) RACE DESCRIPTION

Some races can often prove very popular with owners and trainers and as a result more horses are declared to run than the official safety limit allows for. To avoid horses being denied a run which is obviously disappointing for connections, the British Horseracing Authority has allowed the previous race to be split into two divisions, with each contest carrying identical race conditions.

RACE STATISTICS Leading course trainer (16-21): K Dalgleish (52 wins from 449 runners, 12%) runs CULLY Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): K Dalgleish (6 wins from 39 runners, 15%) runs CULLY Longest Traveller: MIQUELON trained by A Watson, Upper Lambourn, 367 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 2-5 Miquelon (GB), 10-1 Glen Lomond (GB), 12-1 Mehraki Star (IRE), 14-1 Cully (GB), 28-1 Dulla Bhatti (GB), 33-1 Captain Vallo (IRE), 40-1 Pink Silk (GB), 100-1 Toshack (IRE), 200-1 Storm Master (GB) RACE SUMMARY: It will be disappointing should MIQUELON fail to deliver, having chased home above-average types in a Wetherby novice and Wolverhampton maiden on his 2 starts for this yard. The drop to this trip should be in his favour given that he’s clearly not short of speed. There were positives to glean from Glen Lomond’s debut effort and he is preferred to newcomer Mehraki Star for forecast purposes. 1-2-3: 1.MIQUELON 2.GLEN LOMOND 3.MEHRAKI STAR (IRE) STEWARDS NOTE: CULLY: Following its run on 17/5/2021 it was reported that the horse finished lame.

Fourth Race

THE HAMPTON BY HILTON HAMILTON PARK CLYDE HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 2) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 81 to 100. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): M Johnston (36 wins from 199 runners, 18%) runs MOUNTAIN BRAVE Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (9 wins from 78 runners, 12%) runs DANZAN and LAMPANG and MANIGORDO Longest Traveller: EQUIANO SPRINGS trained by T Tate, Tadcaster, 206 miles.

BETTING FORECAST: 9-2 Danzan (IRE), 11-2 Illusionist (GER), 7-1 Rathbone (GB), 9-1 Call Me Ginger (GB), 10-1 Mountain Brave (GB), 11-1 Magical Spirit (IRE) 12-1 Manigordo (USA), 14-1 Embour (IRE), 25-1 Equiano Springs (GB), 40-1 Lampang (IRE) RACE SUMMARY: DANZAN arrives on the back of a terrific effort when second at York and is fancied to go one better in this less competitive affair. Recent C&D winner Illusionist is thriving and poses an obvious threat, while Call Me Ginger (who was second in the same race), isn’t a forlorn hope despite being out of the weights. 1-2-3: 1.DANZAN (IRE) 2.ILLUSIONIST (GER) 3.CALL ME GINGER STEWARDS NOTE: LAMPANG: Following its run on 1/5/2021 it was reported that the horse was coughing post-race.

ONE MILE, ONE FURLONG about 35 YARDS (9f abt 35yds) (1800m)

Fifth Race

3.20p.m. THE BOOK OUR ON-SITE HOTEL HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5)

RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile, one furlong about 35 yards handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

RACE STATISTICS

Leading course trainer (16-21): K Dalgleish (52 wins from 449 runners, 12%) runs BREGUET BOY and PADDYPLEX Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): T Easterby (9 wins from 78 runners, 12%) runs REGAL MIRAGE Weightwatcher: MARKAZI won off a handicap mark of 84, his rating is now down 13lb to 71. Longest Traveller: REGAL MIRAGE trained by T Easterby, Malton, 203 miles.

However, he’s tumbled down the weights and very much caught the eye when third over 8.3f here 3 weeks ago, noted finishing full of running on the back of a slow start. He shades the vote to confirm the promise of that run, with Jackhammer and Regal Mirage expected to also be firmly in the mix. 1-2-3: 1.PADDYPLEX 2.JACKHAMMER (IRE) 3.REGAL MIRAGE (IRE)

Sixth Race

3.55p.m.

THE STAY AT HAMPTON BY HILTON HAMILTON PARK HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a one mile about five furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty which is based on the age of the horse is this race.

Seventh Race

4.30p.m.

THE #CLEANSTAY AT HAMPTON BY HILTON HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 5) RACE DESCRIPTION

This is a six furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 51 to 70. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage.
