WELCOME & MEET THE TEAM

INFORMATION Thank you for joining us for the Betway Winter Derby & Betway Hever Stakes from the comfort of your homes. We have an exciting card of eight races this afternoon, including today’s feature race the Group 3 Betway Winter Derby at 2.40pm. Course and distance winner Father of Jazz looks to be an exciting prospect in today’s 1 mile 2 furlong contest, having won by an impressive four and a half lengths earlier this month and is likely to go off a warm favourite. Recent rivals Felix and Forest of Dean return to the Polytrack after their striking performances in the Betway Winter Derby Trial, finishing second and third respectively behind the Andrew Balding-trained Bangkok. The winner of this Group 3 contest will gain an automatic place into the Betway Easter Classic All-Weather Middle Distance Championships Conditions Stakes on All-Weather Championships Finals Day on 2nd April. We also have a Listed contest this afternoon; the Betway Hever Stakes, at 2.05pm, where we will see seven runners head to the 5 furlong start. The Edward Bethell-trained Moss Gill returns to the all-weather for his first trip around Lingfield, and looks to go off hot favourite having proven himself in Listed company last season. Don’t forget to tune in for the Listed Ladbrokes Spring Cup next Saturday; Lingfield’s next Fast-Track Qualifier for the All-Weather Championships Final on Good Friday. We would like to thank our sponsors today; Betway, Bombardier & Ladbrokes, for their continued support throughout the All-Weather Championships. Where ever you find yourself today we hope you find the time to join us or follow on social media to feel a little closer to the behind closed-door action. Amy Smith Executive Director

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HIIII Can be given little or no chance. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

WHERE TO BET There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs. The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection. Mimimum Stakes The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

A preview of today’s race card by Chad Yeomans of Betway.

1

Poetic Force has won five of his nine career victories by being the top rated and conceding weight all round. He ran well in a hotter race recently and won’t be far away under Elisha Whittington.Enough Already will be doing his best work late and may pick up some place money, if he runs to a similar mark as he did last week.

2

Glentaneous is the one to beat on all known form. He started slowly on his debut, but the penny dropped when his rider asked more from him and he flew home to finish second, only beaten a length. Granted normal improvement, he should take all of the beating under Ryan Moore.

3

Grove Ferry ran well on each of his starts last season without winning but he was learning to race with each start. He looks fairly handicapped of a mark of 95 and getting weight off Intuitive will be helpful. The first-time visor will sharpen up Crownthorpe, who is a consistent sort for the Richard Fahey team. Hollie Doyle takes the ride and they can chase Grove Ferry home.

4

Mahale sets the standard on form and will certainly be suited by this drop back in trip to five furlongs. She gets out of the stalls well and will play catch me if you can from the front. Amasova showed promise over five furlongs last season and if she has trained on, she could be a force to be reckoned with under Ray Dawson and his 5lb claim.

5

Rocket Action can continue the good form of Robert Cowell in the Betway Hever Stakes. He imposed last season and a return to a synthetic surface will suit him too. Belle Anglaise has smart two year old form and can run into a place at a big price under Ben Curtis.

6

Kingdom Found was third at Newcastle last time out in what was a much-improved performance following some below bar runs. She runs off the same mark again in this contest.Classy Dame stayed on very well to finish second at Wolverhampton last time out. She’s been put up 4lb for that effort and has to concede weight all round here.

7

Father Of Jazz is without doubt the most exciting horse in the race. He’s three from three since joining Roger Varian and could be a solid group performer in time. He’s unexposed, exciting and has been very well backed. Johnny Drama has had a break and is expected to run well for Betway ambassador Andrew Balding.

8

Cardano is in great form and is seeking a hat-trick of course and distance successes. Ray Dawson has been booked for the ride for trainer Ian Williams, who also saddles Lucky’s Dream. Torochica loves Lingfield and always gives her best showing at the Surrey course. She didn’t stay 2m last time and this drop back in trip can see her be competitive.

The stable runs GORING today. LONGEST TRAVELLER: CROWNTHORPE trained by R Fahey, Malton, 247 miles. RACE SUMMARY A disappointing turnout for a class 2 handicap. INTUITIVE is difficult to oppose after his comprehensive victory over C&D last month. An 8lb rise probably won’t be enough to stop him following up in this field. Grove Ferry looks to be the biggest danger given his turf form last year. He is consistent and ran well here after a break last June. MOSS GILL’s form last year looks superior to his rivals, particularly his third in the Nunthorpe. He also returned from a winter break to win an all-weather conditions event at this time last year. RACE SUMMARY

FATHER OF JAZZ may have won only a handicap off a mark of 90 last time but the improvement he showed that day was significant. He has looked very progressive throughout the winter and further improvement here looks likely. He is an exciting prospect and makes most appeal. Felix and Forest of Dean ran well in the trial for this race behind Bangkok last time and they should be the main dangers.
