RACEDAY PREVIEW BY PAUL FERGUSON

Ballymoy looks to hold leading claims in the feature Boyne Cup

Weatherbys Hamilton proudly sponsors two of today’s races, beginning with the 2m4f Weatherbys Hamilton Handicap Chase. Despite shouldering top-weight, Evander is arguably the most interesting runner for Cheshire-based trainer Oliver Greenall. The free-going son of Arcadio has won just once from six starts over fences to date, but promises to be suited by a sharp track, and under drying conditions, he might just prove difficult to peg back. Brendan Powell (pictured right) is reunited with the six-year-old and he was on board when Evander ran out a comprehensive winner at Doncaster, form which was advertised last weekend by third home Shut The Box. Nicky Henderson saddles two in the extended 2m5f Weatherbys Hamilton Mares’ Handicap Hurdle, with Nico de Boinville opting to partner Barbados Blue. At home under quick conditions, the lightly-raced seven-year-old should appreciate going up in trip following her recent second at Doncaster.

Yet to finish out of the first two in four starts on good ground, she looks sure to give a good account of herself despite a 5lbs rise, and interestingly, her full-sister Fay Ce Que Voudras runs in the opening contest for trainer Kerry Lee. Of the opposition course-and-distance winner Wynn House, and Precious Eleanor (runner-up over course-and-distance on her penultimate start) are respected. The former drops in grade and coming back in trip should suit Alan King’s novice, who looks more than capable of going well. Elsewhere on the card, the former smart hurdler Ballymoy carries top-weight for Nigel Twiston-Davies and leading owners Simon Munir & Isaac Souede in the feature Boyne Cup. He won a Grade 3 handicap hurdle at Ascot off 147 in January 2019, and is rated just 138 over fences, whilst the concluding hunters’ chase looks a strong contest, with both Chef d’Equipe and San Benedeto rated in the 130s. The latter was a Grade 1 winner on Grand National day four years ago.

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER 1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager. 2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet. 3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings. 4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place. 5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.

EACH WAY BETTING The RCA and the bookmaking association have agreed the following terms for all bookmakers offering each way betting on course. NON-HANDICAPS 5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8+ runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 HANDICAPS 5 - 7 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2 8 - 11 runners; One fifth the odds 1,2,3 12 - 15 runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3 16+ runners; One quarter the odds 1,2,3,4 All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

Race Summary: This looks easier than the handicaps THE BEES KNEES has run well in on his last 2 starts so he gets the nod to land a third success of the campaign. Race Summary: BALLYMOY has yet to scale the same heights over fences as he did as a hurdler, yet his consistency is hard to knock and, on the back of a facile success in a Catterick novice recently, he’s fancied to make a bold bid to get off the mark in a handicap in this sphere. Town Parks and Cuban Pete are fancied to give him most to think about.
