Welcome to Ludlow Race Course Pontesbury Tractors Farmers Day.
We are delighted to welcome Pontesbury Tractors and Ashbrook Ltd as our main sponsors at Ludlow Racecourse.
Do go to the Fairway Enclosure to see some of their machinery. Thanks also to the Oliver family for their continued support & I would like to wish Angela Hems a Very Happy Birthday.
Do go over to the Fairway Enclosure to see all the varied stalls We also have Charlie Ireland, from Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat series, giving a talk in the Windsor Marquee.
After 44mm of rain in a day in October to almost 3 weeks of no rain and temperatures of +16C in November! Its all gone crazy but luckily with our watering system we can meet these challenges.
Hope you all have a good day’s racing.
Regards,
Simon Sherwood (Managing Director/Clerk of the Course)

Those with chasing experience don’t set a tall standard to aim at so NED CASH is fancied to make a winning start in this sphere for his in-form yard at the expense of Gerard Mentor, who won on his penultimate outing at Worcester and can shrug off a dismal effort at Southwell since. Everyonesacritic was entitled to need the outing on his recent chase bow, so he completes the shortlist.

We aim to deal quickly and humanely with injured horses and to maintain the highest quality of veterinary care We have three Equine Veterinary Surgeons in attendance at all meetings who are responsible for the welfare of all horses in action One Veterinary Surgeon follows the race in the centre of the course and can attend a horse with the same response time as the Paramedic teams responsible for the jockeys. It is our policy to erect screens around any injured horse requiring Veterinary attention on the racecourse. The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
