Welcome to Ludlow Race Course Pontesbury Tractors Farmers Day.

We are delighted to welcome Pontesbury Tractors and Ashbrook Ltd as our main sponsors at Ludlow Racecourse.

Do go to the Fairway Enclosure to see some of their machinery. Thanks also to the Oliver family for their continued support & I would like to wish Angela Hems a Very Happy Birthday.

Do go over to the Fairway Enclosure to see all the varied stalls We also have Charlie Ireland, from Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat series, giving a talk in the Windsor Marquee.

After 44mm of rain in a day in October to almost 3 weeks of no rain and temperatures of +16C in November! Its all gone crazy but luckily with our watering system we can meet these challenges.

Hope you all have a good day’s racing.

Regards,

HOW TO BET WITH AN ON-COURSE BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to offer the correct stake money for your wager.

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, i.e. for a win or a place

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g.£1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

GERARD MENTOR: Following its run on 3/10/2024 it was reported that the horse stopped quickly

HAAFBACK: Following its run on 9/5/2024 it was reported that the horse was fractious in the prelims. Betting Forecast:

13-8 Ned Cash (GB), 7-1 Gerard Mentor (FR), 15-2 Everyonesacritic (IRE), Dreaming Diamond (IRE), 12-1 Herecomeshogan (IRE), Cofficionado (IRE), 14-1 Dunstall Rambler (IRE), 16-1 Haafback (GB)

Race Summary:

Those with chasing experience don’t set a tall standard to aim at so NED CASH is fancied to make a winning start in this sphere for his in-form yard at the expense of Gerard Mentor, who won on his penultimate outing at Worcester and can shrug off a dismal effort at Southwell since. Everyonesacritic was entitled to need the outing on his recent chase bow, so he completes the shortlist.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicap races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

For novice steeple chasers, the latest hurdle race rating may be shown until such time as the Handicappers allot a separate steeple chase rating. Such ratings are prefixed by the letter h.
