21ST NOVEMBER 2020 BURTON ALBION 1-3 THE COBBLERS

Harry Smith scored the first and second goals as the Cobblers beat Burton 3-1 at the Pirelli Stadium in November. They took the lead in the second minute when the target-man turned home Sam Hoskins' flick-on from Alan Sheehan's free kick from close range. Smith doubled his tally and the lead midway through the second half when he ran onto Jack Sowerby's pass and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. With 10 minutes remaining, substitute Chris Lines volleyed in a third from Mark Marshall's cross. Lucas Akins scored a consolation from the spot after Fraser Horsfall handled a cross, but the loss meant Burton slipped to the foot of the table.

5TH JANUARY 2020 BURTON ALBION 2-4 THE COBBLERS

League 2 Cobblers knocked out League 1 Burton with a 4-2 away win in the FA Cup third round last season. The visitors opened the scoring 10 minutes in when a Charlie Goode long throw dropped to Nicky Adams and the wing back fired home from 12 yards. Ryan Watson doubled the lead midway through the first half, nodding in from Sam Hoskins’ cross. Captain Goode made it three just before the break, heading home an Adams corner. Ryan Edwards pulled one back moments later, but Hoskins restored Northampton’s three-goal advantage with 20 minutes remaining, finding the bottom corner with a powerful low shot. Despite Scott Fraser’s consolation in injury time, the Cobblers progressed to round four.

25TH APRIL 2015 BURTON ALBION 3-1 THE COBBLERS

The Cobblers’ slim hopes of a 2014-15 League 2 play-off spot were ended when they lost 3-1 away to top-of-the-table Burton. Zander Diamond turned Stuart Beavon’s cross into his own net to put the hosts ahead early on. Phil Edwards turned home a Nasser El Khayati corner on the half-an-hour mark, before Lucas Akins was tripped by Evan Horwood and added a third from the spot on the stroke of half time. Lawson D’Ath’s fine volley reduced the deficit after the interval, but Albion held on to win.
