THE THOUGHTS OF

G

ood afternoon and thank you for your support, wherever you are watching today's game from. Today's game is an exciting challenge for us. We are taking on Hull City, a side who were in the Championship last season and the Premier League not so long ago, but as with every challenge we have faced over the last two years, it is a challenge we will relish and a challenge we will attack head on. We have worked hard over the last two years to build a certain culture in the dressing room, a demanding but supportive culture, a culture where we expect of each other, where we push each other but we also support each other, and I thought we saw all of those characteristics in the win at Shrewsbury Town last weekend. That was another challenge we BUY TICKETS ONLINE AT ntfcdirect.co.uk

accepted head on. We were missing a number of players but we didn't go in for excuses, the absence of some players gave an opportunity to others and we turned in a spirited, committed and ultimately successful performance that allowed us to claim an excellent three points. I was particularly pleased to see the fundamentals we rely on, the qualities we demand, shine through even though we had a change of personnel. This season will be like that, the hectic run of matches, the demanding schedule and of course the protocols we all have to follow will mean that players miss games and that the personnel selected for any given game, will change. If the personnel, if our formation changes, the things that don’t are the fundamentals and that is what was so pleasing about the win last weekend. Next week marks two years since

we arrived at the club. I hope you will all agree it has been an enjoyable time, a time of progress for the club and we are very much on an upward curve, but we all know there is still a long, long way to go. We have enjoyed every minute of our time here so far, and we are very grateful for all of the fantastic support we have received. We had hoped to have a thousand season ticket holders here for the game today, but sadly the Government's decision earlier this week means that is now not possible. We miss you and miss your support, and we look forward to the day when you are back with us. Hopefully that won’t be too long in to the future. For now, thank you for your support from home and thank you to today's match sponsors, Flexispace Construction.

THE THOUGHTS OF

G

ood afternoon and thank you for your support.

We come in to today's game with four points from two league games and it is fair to say it has been an excellent start to the season for us. Four points from two tough and competitive games is a good return, particularly so when you consider the injury and unavailability issues the squad have had to contend with so far this season. There is a long way to go of course, we are in the very early days of the season, but credit to Keith, his staff and the players for the start to the season we have had. We did apply for today’s game to be a test event to allow crowds to return to matches and we were hopeful of being allowed to admit up to a thousand spectators today, but the Government announcement earlier this week means that programme has been paused. We hope and expect this is just a temporary pause, and if the COVID-19 situation in the country improves in the coming weeks we are hopeful this programme will resume, and move forward as quickly as possible. It is important that spectators are allowed back in to matches for any number of reasons. Football is just not the same without the atmosphere supporters generate, and for clubs at all levels the income generated by admitting supporters is vital. We believe that watching football in an outdoor environment, socially distanced, is a lot safer than many of the activities that are allowed currently and it will offer a lift to clubs and their communities to allow fans back as soon as possible.

It goes without saying that we are really missing your support at matches, and while nothing replicates being at the game, we hope the iFollow streaming service is at least allowing you to follow the matches from home. Streaming matches to thousands of supporters on iFollow clearly represents a huge logistical challenge to clubs, but it is a challenge that, for the most part, I think we have handled really well. Asking supporters to use a new service, to watch matches in a different way is never ideal, and we recognise and accept the difficulty for supporters who may not be particularly internet savvy, but we hope that thanks to the hard work of the staff and the guidance we have been able to issue, the majority of supporters have been able to watch the matches from a distance. The service will continue for as long as is required, but we hope that won’t be for too long and that we can welcome supporters back to games as soon as it is safe to do so. Congratulations to Keith Curle, his staff and the squad on an excellent win at Shrewsbury Town last weekend. The squad was stretched to the limit with a number of absentees, but those who were involved rose to the challenge and helped us secure an excellent result. While we may have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by a strong Bristol City side last week, it was a proud night for the club to see so many homegrown players involved, and they can all be pleased with their efforts. Caleb Chukwuemeka has settled in to the first team squad

really well, while Ethan Johnston became the second player from the club’s Football & Education programme to represent the first team when he came on at Ashton Gate. Morgan Roberts has made a handful of first team appearances now and he also did well when he came on. To play against a top Championship side packed full of quality players will have been a steep but valuable learning curve for all of those boys who can be pleased with the progress they are making. Earlier this week, the Supporters Trust announced their support for the club's East Stand plans. We met with the members of the Trust board a couple of times over the last few weeks, talked through the club's plans for the East Stand and the wider development and answered any questions the Trust had. After asking these questions, looking at the plans and going through a Freedom of Information request, the Trust have announced their support for the club's plans. As a club, we will continue in our discussions with Northampton Borough Council and the Council now know the Trust are fully behind the club's plans. Next week is Keith Curle’s second anniversary in charge of the club and it is only right to acknowledge what an excellent job Keith and his staff have done. To take over a club towards the foot of League 2 and in two years to have achieved a promotion, our best cup run for 16 years, a club record sale, over 100 first team appearances from players from our academy and education programme – the list of achievements goes on. I know the club will be looking back at Keith’s two years in charge on our channels next week but I would like to add my personal thanks and congratulations to Keith and his staff. We face a very tough game today against a side we are all expecting to be up among the pacesetters in League 1 this season, but I know you will be willing us on from home. Thank you for your support. Thank you to our match sponsors today, Flexispace Construction.

NOT TODAY OR ANY DAY The EFL’s ‘Not Today or Any Day’ campaign logo will feature on EFL player shirts across the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two throughout the 2020/21 season, to reinforce the message that discrimination in any form will not be tolerated across the League. Launched in October 2019, the ‘Not Today or Any Day’ campaign aims to encourage behavioural and attitude changes at all levels of EFL football and ensure that a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination is embedded throughout the EFL clubs. Building on the awareness raised during the 2019/20 season, the logo on player shirts will aim to drive further visibility of the campaign and its message to millions of supporters of EFL clubs worldwide and will be the first of a number of activities taking place throughout the year across the League. EFL CEO David Baldwin, said: “Football has a platform like no other to drive change and our ‘Not Today or Any Day’ campaign logo featured across all EFL Club shirts will act as a powerful reminder that the League does not accept discriminatory behaviour in any form. “Whilst progress has been made in this area, more remains to be done as we work with our Clubs and stakeholders to tackle the issue, actively promote inclusion and diversity across our matchdays and within the wider communities that our Clubs and Club Community Organisations serve.” The League remains committed to tackling racism and discrimination, standing with all stakeholders, players and managers who oppose prejudiced behaviour in any form. Through the EFL’s established Equality Code of Practice, League-wide Inclusion Plan and ongoing dedicated security operations, we will continue to work with all EFL clubs to further embed equality, diversity and inclusion throughout football. In addition to the logo on playing shirts, clubs will continue to show their support for the campaign across their own social media channels.

WELCOME JACK! Northampton Town have signed Fleetwood Town midfielder Jack Sowerby for an undisclosed fee. The 25 year old made 96 appearances for Fleetwood, with 30 of those games coming in the 2019/20 season as the Cod Army made the League 1 play offs. Sowerby also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Carlisle United in the 2018/19 season, scoring five times in 28 appearances. "Jack is a player who has been on our radar for some time," said manager Keith Curle. "He is a dynamic, attacking midfield player who likes to get forward and has an eye for goal. "Jack has an excellent attitude, a good work ethic, he is a good age with a good range of experience and he has that hunger and desire to kick on. He is someone we think will fit in well here. "He has a good understanding of the role he plays in the team, he takes up threatening positions and I think he is someone who will add to our group." Sowerby has signed a 2 year contract with the option for a further year.

REMEMBERING THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED Over the last few months, we have sadly had to say goodbye to a number of former players, managers and supporters.

ALEC CARSON

Everyone at Northampton Town Football Club was deeply saddened to receive news that former player Alec Carson passed away in May 2020 aged 77. Alexander ‘Alec’ Carson was born in Glasgow but brought up in Corby. The young Alec showed promise at football and played for Corby Town’s youth team before joining the groundstaff at the Cobblers. He signed professionally for Northampton Town in November 1959 and made his Football League debut in a 1-1 draw against Stockport County in April 1961. He made seven appearances the following season before moving to Aldershot in 1963, making five Division Four appearances over two years. Alec became established as a versatile player who could operate at either full-back or half-back. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

LES WEATHERLEY

We were deeply sorry to learn of the passing of supporter Les Weatherley on September 3rd 2020. We extend our deepest condolences to all who knew Les.

TWENTY QUESTIONS WITH

1)

2)

3)

4)

WHAT’S YOUR FIRST FOOTBALLING MEMORY, EITHER PLAYING OR WATCHING?

"In terms of playing, it was a Sunday League game for Grange Park's 'B' team. We were playing in a summer 7-a-side tournament so there were a lot of games on that day. I remember coming on as a substitute in my first game for them, and I scored an own goal from an opposition corner. "Luckily we had a good team though and we got to the final, and I managed to score a few goals at the right end as well!"

WHO’S HAD THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE ON YOUR CAREER?

"It's hard to pick one because there's been quite a lot of coaches and obviously family members that have helped me along the way, and continue to do so. My Dad motivates me a lot, even more so since we lost him. He always said one day I'd make it as a professional footballer, which luckily I have, and now I want to keep progressing."

WHICH PLAYER(S) INSPIRED YOU THE MOST WHILST GROWING UP?

"Ronaldinho in his Barcelona days was special, I had a Brazil shirt with his name on the back when I was younger. I looked up to Lionel Messi when he was coming through, too. I'd put Ronaldo in there as well."

IF YOU COULD RE-INVENT YOURSELF AS A PLAYER IN A DIFFERENT POSITION, WHERE WOULD YOU PLAY?

"I used to play as a goalkeeper when I was younger, so it would be quite good to try that again. I'd maybe have to be a bit taller though, and I'd like to get on the ball and pass it around from the back - a bit like an Ederson role at Manchester City."

5)

12

WHO’S THE BEST PLAYER YOU’VE PLAYED WITH OR AGAINST?

"I'd have to say Steven Gerrard when I played against him at Wembley. Although he's in his late thirties he was still really good on the ball, spraying the ball around and nearly scoring a few goals as well." BUY TICKETS FOLLOW ONLINE US ON AT ntfcdirect.co.uk TWITTER @ntfc

6)

7) 8)

9)

DO YOU HAVE ANY PRE-MATCH SUPERSTITIONS/ROUTINES?

"I like to put my left boot on first and tie my left lace, little things like that. I have a few others as well which might change from time to time depending on results and how we're playing."

AWAY FROM FOOTBALL, ARE YOU INTERESTED IN ANY OTHER SPORTS?

"When the weather is nice, I like to play golf out in the fresh air. I like playing basketball and table tennis too."

AT SCHOOL, WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE AND LEAST FAVOURITE SUBJECT?

"P.E was always fun, especially when we were out on the astro playing football. I enjoyed Art as well, I got to a good level with that. It was hard work and I picked it for one of my GCSE's, but it was enjoyable. In terms of the worst, I'd say Science and Maths."

IF YOU COULD TRAVEL TO A PLACE YOU’VE NEVER VISITED BEFORE, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

"I've never been to America, so that would be good. If I was given the choice to go anywhere, I'd probably choose somewhere like Bali or the Maldives as you could just completely relax and switch off there."

10) IF YOU WERE STUCK IN A LIFT WITH A CURRENT NORTHAMPTON TEAM-MATE, WHO WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BE AND WHO WOULD YOU AVOID?

"I'd probably pick Morgan Roberts to be stuck with. If there's a football in there then I'd be able to get my confidence up playing two-touch against him! Hopefully he'd get better at is as well. To avoid, I'm not sure to be fair. Nicky (Adams) talks a lot! So if you're trying to get to sleep in there it might not be that easy."

11) WHO HAS THE WORST BANTER IN THE SQUAD?

"There's a few that have quite dry, sarcastic humour. Without picking anyone out in particular, there's a few that are like that. It's not the worst in our dressing room, to be fair!"

12) WHAT’S YOUR SPECIALITY IN THE KITCHEN?

"Just pasta really. I think I prefer the presentation side of making food rather than the actual cooking!"

13) DO YOU HAVE ANY HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF FOOTBALL?

"I like to play as many other sports as I can, including golf which I touched on earlier. I watch the odd Netflix show too and play a few video games when I get the chance."

14) WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE FILM?

"I'd say an all-time classic would be 'Gladiator', but I'd say more recently I'm more into series rather than films."

15) IF YOU WEREN’T A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER, WHICH ROUTE WOULD YOU HAVE GONE DOWN?

"If you asked me this when I was about ten years-old, I probably would've tried to go down the golf route. But more recently it would probably be something around architectural design. Having enjoyed Art at school and doing work experience at an architect place in Year 10, I might have looked to have carried on down that route as well."

16) WHICH NETFLIX/TV SERIES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND WATCHING?

"White Collar is a really good series. I think everyone has seen it already but I'd have to say Prison Break, and the Sunderland series as well."

17) IT’S YOUR TURN ON THE KARAOKE, WHICH SONG DO YOU CHOOSE?

"When I've done an initiation before, I went for Adele - Someone Like You. I struggled with a few of the higher notes but it didn't go down too badly to be fair."

18) YOU’RE STUCK ON A DESERT ISLAND, WHICH THREE ITEMS DO YOU TAKE WITH YOU? "A cruise ship to get myself home, a football and my phone."

19) DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS, AND IF SO WHICH ONES? "I've got a golden labrador named Peaches, and a cat called Pepper."

20) IF YOU COULD PASS ON SOME ADVICE TO A YOUNGER PLAYER, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

"Don't give up on yourself, there's still players now coming on to the scene in their mid twenties and I wasn't in an academy myself until 17-18 years-old. Also you can never practice or work on your skills too much, so keep doing that as much as you can."

WINGER DELIGHTED TO RECORD THREE POINTS ON THE ROAD 14

orthampton Town’s squad was stretched for last Saturday’s win at Shrewsbury Town. Ten senior players were unavailable for the game at the Montgomery Waters Meadow, a list that would grow to eleven when Benny Ashley-Seal came off just before half time, but that didn’t stop Keith Curle’s side recording an excellent three points thanks to a 2-1 success. The Cobblers were set on their way by a superb early goal from Mark Marshall, the former Charlton winger firing home powerfully from a Joseph Mills cross. “It was a superb win for us,” said Marshall as he looked back on the win. “It showed our depth and our spirit to go away from home with so many players missing and to secure three points against a good, established League 1 side. “Being able to do that shows we have real competition for places. The boys who were watching on at home are all quality players and they will add to the squad when they are available, so it will be a really strong squad when we have everyone fit and available and the Gaffer will have some selection decisions to make.” BUY TICKETS ONLINE AT ntfcdirect.co.uk

A number of young players came in to the side last weekend, with Benny Ashley-Seal and Caleb Chukwuemeka up front, supported by youth teamers Max Dyche and Josh Flanagan on the bench, and Marshall said the blend between youth and experience worked well. “To go away and get a win at Shrewsbury with so many youngsters involved in the eighteen was a terrific result,” he agreed. “The spirit was great between the young players who came in and the more senior players and that is just what you need. We need to show that commitment week in, week out, we showed a lot of fight and a lot of quality and that helped win us the game.” Marshall’s goal got the Cobblers off to the best possible start, a powerful finish in to the roof of the net from 15 yards. He talked us through the goal. “Joseph Mills sent over a good cross for my goal and I caught it well and it went straight in,” he said. “I

don’t score too many goals to be honest so every goal for me is special and I was happy to help the team. The main thing wasn’t me scoring, it was the result and putting a smile on the faces of the supporters. “In League 1 you need spirit, determination, quality and resilience and we showed all of those qualities and more last week. We created a winning spirit last season and we have carried that over in to this season, supported by the fact that the Gaffer has brought in some good characters over the summer. “We will come up against some good teams and some big clubs this season, Hull City today being an example, and we just have to carry our form on, and show all of the qualities we did last week. If we do that and things go our way, then hopefully we can get another good result today.”

FC Wimbledon were at the PTS Academy Stadium for Northampton Town's first game back in Sky Bet League 1. Recent signing from Wolves Benny Ashley-Seal came straight into the side while young striker and academy graduate Caleb Chukwuemeka was named on the bench. Nicky Adams, Harry Smith, Joseph Mills, Scott Pollock, Shaun McWilliams and Joe Nutall were all unavailable through injury. Less than 30 seconds in Wimbledon took the lead, Ethan Chislett finding the bottom right corner with a low drive. Ashely-Seal volleyed just wide as the Cobblers responded well to falling behind and when Matt Warburton’s sweetly struck free-kick

curled passed Nik Tzanev they were back on level terms. Ryan Lognman spurned a good opportunity to put the Dons back in front but it wasn’t long before their lead had been restored, Nesta Guiness-Walker with a low finish. Things could have got worse had Shane McLoughlin not fired over from six-yards and when Ricky Korboa scored his first ever league goal, a fine strike into the bottom corner, the Cobblers were back on level terms for a second time. There was a moment of concern for boss Keith Curle when skipper Cian Bolger received treatment after going down injured but he was able to continue and it was the Cobblers who finished the first half the stronger, Michael Harriman heading

wide from a Mark Marshall cross. Warburton had the ball in the back of the net in the early stages of the second half but his cute overhead kick was ruled out for off-side. Sam Hoskins, on for Ashley-Seal, volleyed just wide while it needed a vital touch from Luka Racic to deny Longman a chance for Wimbledon at the back post. Ryan Watson had a shot deflected behind before Caleb Chukwuemeka came on to make his Cobblers debut, replacing Warburton for the final few minutes. Neither side was settling for a point but 2-2 was how it finished, a thoroughly entertaining game to kick off the new league season.

10 YEARS ON TUESDAY MARKED THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF OUR LEAGUE CUP WIN AT ANFIELD.

S

eptember 22nd 2010 is a day that will not be forgotten by Cobblers supporters. Northampton Town, 17th in League 2 at that time, travelled to Anfield to take on Premier League giants Liverpool in the third round of the Carling Cup. Thousands of Cobblers supporters travelled north to support the team more in hope than expectation. The night didn't begin well. Milan Jovanovic put future England manager Roy Hodgson's side ahead early and many thought the Reds would go on to win comfortably, but the floodgates did not open. Half time came and went with the deficit

18

still a single goal and belief began to build in the Cobblers ranks that Ian Sampson's side were right in the tie. That belief grew and grew as Billy McKay equalised on 56 minutes to send the Cobblers fans wild with delight. 90 minutes ended with the tie locked at 1-1 and it was clear that Northampton Town had a real chance of pulling off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the competition. Incredibly, Michael Jacobs gave the Cobblers the lead in extra time, scoring from close range, but David Ngog's late header took the tie to penalties and spared Liverpool's blushes for the moment.

With the rain pouring down Steve Guinan and Liverpool's Ngog missed from 12 yards, and when Nathan Eccleston hit the bar with Liverpool's fourth penalty, the scene was sent for Abdul Osman to score and send Cobblers players and supporters in to ecstasy in the Anfield rain. It was a night that is still clear in the memory of then manager, and now academy manager, Ian Sampson. "10 years seems such a long time but it still quite vivid in the memory," he said. "It was a fantastic memory for me. We had done well to get to the third round, we had beaten Brighton and Reading who were BUY ADD TICKETS US ON ONLINE SNAPCHAT AT ntfcdirect.co.uk officiallyntfc

The rain was teaming down but it was a special moment. I ruined a cheap suit because of the weather (!), but it was great for that group of players to enjoy that night at Anfield. doing well in the Championship and when we drew Liverpool, no one could really believe it. We just wanted there and to do our best. "We took 6,000 fans in horrendous weather and it was a tough night for football. It was a special night for the travelling support, but it got off a tough start. We were 1-0 down early on and then we are thinking 'this could be a long night', but we responded really well. Maybe Liverpool got complacent and we grew in to the game and the performance was really good. "We were relaxed at half time, knowing we were only 1-0 down and we were in the tie. We grew in confidence and got a foothold in the game and we were really good in the second half. When Billy McKay scored in front of the travelling support it was a really proud moment for everyone, that added to the belief and I felt we dominated the second half.

"We had taken Courtney Herbert from non-league football and he played a big part in the second goal, we thought we were there but Liverpool equalised at the end and we thought our chance had gone, but we won on penalties in front of The Kop.

"I don't think Liverpool have lost too many penalty shoot outs in front of the The Kop but it worked out really well for us, and Abdul's winning penalty was a superb strike, it was very calm. "The rain was teaming down but it was a special moment. I ruined a cheap suit because of the weather (!), but it was great for that group of players to enjoy that night at Anfield. Not many players win there, but we did and we were news all around the world, it was a manic few days!"

T

he University of Northampton is increasing its support for businesses and organisations to help them survive and thrive beyond the pandemic. Organisations in Northamptonshire can now apply for a grant worth up to £5,000 to develop their business. This is on top of the existing support which the University currently provides in the form of regular industry forums, business support webinars and its business adviser programme. new insights or generating ideas to increase and sustain business growth. Charlotte Patrick, Key Sector and Knowledge Transfer Manager at the University, said: “The University is committed to supporting the business community, and we’ve been guiding many organisations during these difficult times, with our industry forums, webinars and adviser programme. “But, we are keen to provide even more support, which is why we are launching our BIIG initiative, which allows organisations to access up to £5,000 worth of support. “Applications are welcomed from all businesses in Northamptonshire. You could be looking to improve productivity processes as a manufacturing or logistics company

or perhaps enhance a technical function in your family owned business or manage waste created by your food manufacturing processes. “We have a huge breadth of expertise here at the University, from lifts to footwear, tourism to apps, waste to polymers – and we want to use our knowledge to better businesses in the county.” The deadline for expressions of interest is Friday 9 October. Applicants will then be matched with the relevant academic, to progress the application to November’s judging process which decides who will receive support. For more information, or if you require support outside of the areas of expertise above, please email charlotte.patrick@northampton.ac.uk.

ETHAN GRANDE LOOKS BACK AT NORTHAMPTON TOWN MATCHES ON THIS DATE IN YEARS GONE BY.

1981 NORTHAMPTON TOWN 2 HEREFORD UNITED 3

This was a bad day for the Cobblers with this defeat at the County Ground in front of a crowd of 1,552. The Cobblers started off well with Steve Phillips (pictured) beating two defenders and scoring from 20 yards. Bray equalised for Hereford before Peter Coffill failed to clear and McGrellish looped the ball over Poole to make it 2-1 to Hereford. Dobson was then allowed time and space to convert a White corner. Hughes then pushed Sandy’s drive to one side and it fell to Phillips who scored to reduce the deficit but it was not enough.

2006 CHELTENHAM TOWN 0 NORTHAMPTON TOWN 2

A Tuesday night away trip to Whaddon Road with an attendance of 3,224 saw the Cobblers take the three points after a strong away performance. The first Cobblers goal came from Andy Kirk, who headed home Eoin Jess’s free kick. For the second goal, Jason Crowe was upended in the box and Scott McGleish converted the penalty. 1966 PETERBOROUGH UNITED 0 NORTHAMPTON TOWN 2

The Cobblers and Posh were involved in a League Cup second round replay at London Road which saw a crowd of 9,484. After the Cobblers won the game with Don Martin (pictured) on the scoresheet, the majority of fans at London Road were not happy with the referee as a bottle was thrown at the official from the home support.

awrie Dudfield began his career at the age of 16 and signed for local side Kettering Town. He made excellent progress and became the youngest player ever to play in the National League when he made his debut in August 1996 and on his 17th birthday he signed for Leicester City. While Lawrie was with the Foxes he had 2 loan spells, in 2000 he made his Football League debut during a temporary spell with Lincoln City and was involved in their 1-1 draw with Blackpool. After gaining first team experience he then moved to Chesterfield for another loan spell where he scored five goals in fourteen appearances as ADD US ON SNAPCHAT officiallyntfc

the club were successfully promoted as League 2 Champions. In June 2001, after Chesterfield failed to sign Lawrie permanently, he signed for Hull City for over £250,000, a new club record. He spent 2 seasons at Hull, making 59 appearances and scoring 17 goals, earning the Supporters Club Player of the Year Award for the 2001/2002 season. Lawrie fell out of favour with then Hull manager Peter Taylor and he joined the Cobblers on loan for the start of the 2003/04 season, before making the move permanent. In the one season he spent at the Cobblers he made over 30 appearances, scoring 8 goals.

When Colin Calderwood was appointed manager of Northampton Town, he sent Lawrie on loan to Southend United in 2004. During his spell at Roots Hall he became a firm fans favourite as the club were promoted to League 1 via a win over Lincoln City in the League 2 Play Off Final at the Millennium Stadium. Dudfield left the club immediately after promotion. After his time at Southend, Lawrie went to play for Boston United then spent 3 years at Notts County then finally Cork City. In early 2015, Dudfield launched his own company, Iconz Experience Ltd. focusing on UK Football Tours as well as hosting EPL Soccer Clinics abroad.

JOY LAST WEEKEND AND HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

D

o you ever find yourself thinking ‘how did I get here?’ It happens to me a lot. I’ve reached the stage of life where I can sometimes go from one room to another and forget what I went there for. I know I don’t look old enough but there we go. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, be grateful, but don’t worry, your time will undoubtedly come. The times when I find myself forgetting what I’m in a room for can be quite disorienting, can’t they. Please say it’s not just me. I find that I don’t just wonder why I went somewhere, but that it’s a bit confusing, almost as if the journey I took to get there happened by magic. We find ourselves in disorienting days in so many senses. And I’m not just talking about the football, the beauty of which sees the Cobblers this afternoon having the opportunity to pit their wits against a team who were in the Championship last season and only recently were a fairly wellestablished Premier League club. Hull’s rise from around the time of Marc Richards’ fantastic goal in an away fixture sixteen years ago which has lived long in my memory, was most impressive and it can only be hoped that, after today of course, they have a good season and begin to regain some form of stability. FOLLOW US ON TWITTER @ntfc

Indeed it is stability that so many of us are looking for, whether we place our faith in football, God, government or something else. You might not have thought specifically, recently, that stability is what you’re after, but I’m fairly willing to bet that when you think back to what your hopes were for 2020 at the start of the year, what’s happened recently has turned out slightly differently, whether it’s ended up better for you, or worse. All of us are looking for something, someone to hold on to, somebody to put our trust and our hope in. It’s not just coming from the point of view of being a Christian that makes me say that. I see it in every single person. We all need hope. We all need help. This year has brought it home to me more than any other that I’ve lived through. The joy of watching Sam Hoskins’ goal go in last weekend to win at Shrewsbury, the hope it brings me for the future to see Caleb Chukwuemeka, Morgan Roberts, Ethan Johnston, Max Dyche and Josh Flanagan stepping up from our Academy, those things matter and are meaningful, but to have hope that lasts and to be able to answer the question ‘how did I get here?’ or even ‘why did I get here?’ for that, for me at least, the answer lies beyond football. To be perfectly honest, I find all the changes that are happening

in our day, often several times a day, probably as disorienting as any of you do. Then I remember these words ’I waited and waited and waited for God. At last he looked; finally he listened. He lifted me out of the ditch…He stood me up on a solid rock to make sure I wouldn’t slip.’ (Psalm 40:1-2). It can seem like hope, like the full-time whistle in a game we’re winning narrowly, will never come, but unlike the final whistle, which sometimes comes too late for our rearguard, hope is always there for us if we realise our need for it and reach out for something, someone to hold on to. Up the Cobblers!

REPORT IT.

KICK IT OUT OF FOOTBALL.

??

HULL UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON STUDENT ARCHIE CORBETT SETS THE SCENE FOR TODAY'S GAME:

H

aving endured a difficult campaign last season, Grant McCann’s side are looking to bounce straight back to the Championship this time round. Relegation from the the second tier last season was something even the most pessimistic of Hull fans didn’t see coming, but losing their last six games of the season (including a shock 8-0 defeat to the hands of fellow relegated side Wigan Athletic) saw the Tigers in League 1 for the 2020/21 campaign. However, the early signs are very positive for the new campaign. Two league games into this season and Hull are one of only two sides yet to concede, having also beaten Leeds United in the Carabao Cup on penalties.

ONE TO WATCH This week’s One to Watch is George Honeyman. The box-to-box midfielder and former Sunderland captain has already racked up two assists and one man of the match performance in his first two appearances in this League One campaign.

COBBLERS CONNECTION This will be the first meeting between the two sides in over 16 years. The last meeting here came on October 4, 2003, a game in which the visitors ran rampant, winning 5-1. One player currently links the two clubs – goalkeeper Matt Ingram. Ingram played 20 games in the Cobblers' last season in League One and was on loan from QPR at the time.

GRANT McCANN Hull City appointed Grant McCann as their new manager in June 2019 after the club parted ways with Nigel Adkins. McCann spent the previous season (2018/19) in charge of Doncaster Rovers, achieving a sixth-place finish in Sky Bet League 1 before being edged out by Charlton Athletic in the play-off semi-finals. His assistant Cliff Byrne also made the switch from Doncaster after a compensation package was agreed between the two clubs. McCann, 40, began his managerial career with Peterborough United in May 2016 but in February 2018 he left London Road following a winless seven match run. As a player, midfielder McCann represented Northern Ireland, winning 39 caps and played for clubs including Cheltenham Town, Barnsley, Scunthorpe United and Peterborough where he made just under 200 appearances across all competitions. He ended his playing career with Linfield in Northern Ireland before returning to Posh to take up a coaching role. READ MORE AT ntfc.co.uk

UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON STUDENT JAMES WILES LOOK BACK ON SOME PREVIOUS MEETINGS BETWEEN THE TWO CLUBS.

10TH APRIL 2004 HULL CITY 2-3 COBBLERS

The Cobblers took all three points when they faced high-flying Hull in an entertaining 3-2 away win. Marc Richards’ second minute opener for the visitors was quickly matched five minutes later when Stuart Elliott equalised for the Tigers. Eric Sabin scored a brace before the half-anhour mark to give the Cobblers a 3-1 lead going into the break. Despite Andy Dawson’s strike with 20 minutes to go, Colin Calderwood’s side held on for a vital three points in their hunt for a play-off spot.

4TH OCTOBER 2003 COBBLERS 1-5 HULL CITY

The Cobblers slipped to 17th place in Division Three as they fell to a 5-1 defeat at home to Hull. The managerless hosts were 2-0 down at half time thanks to goals from Stuart Elliott and Danny Allsopp. Things went from bad to worse for the Cobblers when Jason Price scored a third for Peter Taylor’s side 67 minutes in before keeper Lee Harper was sent off three minutes later. Paul Trollope got one back with 10 minutes to go, but Ben Burgess and former Cobblers striker Jamie Forrester both scored late goals to secure a comfortable win for the Tigers.

21ST APRIL 2000 COBBLERS 1-0 HULL CITY

The Cobblers boosted their promotion hopes in the 1999-2000 Division Three season with a 1-0 win over Hull at Sixfields on Good Friday late in the campaign. Loanee striker Jamie Forrester’s fifth minute goal was enough to secure the three points for Kevin Wilson’s side, who replicated the scoreline they managed to defeat their opponents by away from home a few months previously. Hull had no reply to this early strike and fell to a narrow loss to the Cobblers in a season that saw the Tigers finish comfortably in mid table. FOOTBALL HISTORIAN LEIGH EDWARDS PROFILES TEN NOTABLE PLAYERS WHO PROGRESSED THROUGH THE RANKS WITH HULL CITY

DEAN WINDASS

ANDY DAVIDSON

Long-serving right-back Andy Davidson holds Hull City’s appearance record. Signing professional at Boothferry Park in September 1949, ‘Jock’ made his League debut in Hull City’s 2-0 defeat at Blackburn three years later and was an influential figure as Hull City won promotion in 1958-59. He became captain and missed just one match as they won the Third Division title and took Chelsea to an FA Cup sixth round replay in 1965-66. Ever-present seven times, he netted 18 goals in a club record 520 League games for the Tigers before joining their coaching staff, then was chief scout and had a mobile fish round. He died in Beverley in April 2014.

BRIAN BULLESS

Versatile left-sided player Brian Bulless helped Hull City to win promotion in 1958-59. Born locally, he joined Hull as an amateur in August 1949 and turned professional in October 1950, scoring on his League debut to clinch their 1-0 victory at home to fellow strugglers Southampton in April 1952. He featured as Hull took Tottenham Hotspur to an FA Cup fifth round replay in 1953-54 and hammered Oldham Athletic 9-0 in April 1958. Ever-present in 1959-60, he netted 30 goals in 326 League games before a knee injury against Reading on Easter Saturday 1963 ended his career. Later employed as a labourer for Reckitt’s, he died in December 2016.

CHRIS CHILTON

Long-serving striker Chris Chilton holds Hull City's all-time goalscoring record. Signing professional at Boothferry Park in July 1960, he made his League debut at Colchester United a month later and quickly impressed with his aerial strength. EVERYONE KNOWS THEIR CLUB COLOURS... DON’T THEY? NORMAL VISION

Approximately one in 12 men inherit colour blindness. It’s carried on the X-chromosome, so only one in 200 women inherit the condition. It can be a real issue in football, whether you’re watching, playing, managing or officiating. Imagine not being able to tell the difference between kit colours, and how that would affect your enjoyment of watching the game – either live or on TV. There are three types of colour blindness – and myriad colour combinations which cause problems. The common perception that colour-blind people only confuse reds and greens is a myth.

COLOUR-BLIND SIMULATION (PROTANOPIA)

The FA has been working closely with UEFA and specialist organisation Colour Blind Awareness to highlight the issue. The intention is to positively influence decision-makers at every level of the game and improve the experience of colour-blind people – whatever their involvement in football. This work has seen the production of a comprehensive guidance booklet. You can read and download it at TheFA.com/colourblindness And please visit the Colour Blind Awareness website: colourblindawareness.org for ways you can help maximise awareness.

Together, let’s make sure football’s future is FOR ALL.

ETHAN BECOMES SECOND PLAYER FROM EDUCATION PROGRAMME TO PLAY FOR THE FIRST TEAM AS PLAYER PATHWAY CONTINUES

T

he club are very proud of our player pathway, and last week at Bristol City, we saw a further example of that pathway in operation. Northamptonshire born striker Ethan Johnston became the second player from the club's education programme to play for the first team when he came on as a 56th minute substitute in the Carabao Cup second round tie at Bristol City. He follows in the footsteps of Scott Pollock who made his first team debut in January 2019. Johnston moved from the education programme in to the academy, and he is the 11th academy product to appear for the first team in less than two years under Keith Curle, with a total of 112 first team appearances amongst those players. He is also the third different current or former academy player to play for the first team this season, after Morgan Roberts and Caleb SUBSCRIBE ON YOUTUBE officiallyntfc

Chukwuemeka, who made his full debut at Ashton Gate, with injuries having prevented Pollock and Shaun McWilliams from appearing so far. For Johnston, it was a proud night. "Making my debut is what I have been working towards and to do so at such a fantastic stadium was great," he said. "Once I got on the pitch the nerves went away and I settled in to things. "I just tried my best and hopefully I did OK. I really enjoyed it and it was great to be out there with a number of other young players. "The manager is great with us, he really believes in the young players and he gives us opportunities which is what you are desperate for as a young player. "When I left school, I did my first year with the club's education programme. I progressed from there in to the academy and then earned a professional contract and

then made my debut last Wednesday night. It has been a fantastic few years for me. The education programme was a fantastic platform for me." Manager Keith Curle added: "Last Wednesday night was a fantastic learning opportunity for the young players in our squad. "They are part of our squad and this is their pathway. When you get an opportunity, go and take that opportunity. "Caleb showed some nice touches, Ethan won a few headers against Championship defenders and almost had a chance with a cross from Morgan Roberts and there were positives to take from all of their performances. "The player pathway is very much open at this club. We have shown we can develop players, both individually and as a group and that is what we will continue to do to help the club continue on its upward curve."

MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING

T

he Northampton Town Community Trust has been successful in obtaining a National Lottery Awards for All grant to train staff from voluntary, community and third sector organisations as mental health navigators across Northamptonshire in the wake of Covid-19. Attending the free online Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England course to become 'mental health aware' will enable staff from a range of professions to assist adults in the community as we learn to deal with the issues arising from the pandemic and lockdown moving forwards. These navigators will form a network in Northamptonshire where mental health resources, links and support services can be shared. The first course welcomed staff from the Hope Centre, sports chaplaincy, Impact Now Northampton, Made with Many and various school based family support workers who work with parents. (Bozeat, Hopping Hill, Earls Barton, Croyland primaries.)

46

Feedback: • The course was really informative, it was great to talk to others via zoom as well. • The tutor took her time explaining each topic. As a founder of a Charity and an independent Social Worker, I will be in a better position to support people that use our services. • Thank you very much, the course was very useful and well delivered. • Some very difficult subjects were dealt with sensitively. I will use the training to support groups and communities we are working with, and other colleagues who may come across different Mental Health issues. The course is designed to give delegates: • An understanding of what mental health is and how to challenge stigma • A basic knowledge of some common mental health issues • An introduction to looking after your own mental health and maintaining wellbeing • Confidence to support someone in distress or who may be experiencing

a mental health issue MHFA doesn’t teach people to be therapists, but will teach listening skills, how to reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening. Participants learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping safe. Delegates also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more. For more information and to book a course, please email anna.letts@ntfc.co.uk or visit ntfccommunity.co.uk/mental-health

MORE FIT COBBLERS BLOCK 3 STATISTICS • 100% of participants who completed the programme lost weight • 24 total participants engaged • 15 participants completed the programme • 10 participants lost over 4kg • 5 participants lost over 5% of their bodyweight • Highest single participant weight lost- 10.7kg • Highest % of bodyweight loss- 10.56% BUY TICKETS ONLINE AT ntfcdirect.co.uk

However, Fit Cobblers isn’t just about losing the weight for the short -term goals, we look to create small changes and adjustments to your routine which in turn will lead to the big sustainable change for the longer term. As a result, we would like to introduce Andrew, a Fit Cobblers Participant who completed the last block and here he gives his account of his habits before joining Fit Cobblers: “I would say that I was very much stuck in a rut," he said. "I had no real drive or energy and not a lot of desire to try anything different. I wouldn’t have described myself as very overweight but did realise that my health and fitness was only going to decline with age unless something changed. Food-wise, I was very much a comfort eater. If I had a bad day at work, I would most certainly have snacked on, for example, a sandwich before my evening meal, or would fix something up late at night after everyone else had gone to bed.” What did Andrew take back from the programme? “Whilst still going to the weekly sessions at the stadium, we covered food groups, calorie intakes, making healthy food choices and eating plans. On the fitness side, we held weekly sessions of circuit training, at a basic level, which was extremely enjoyable. Away from the sessions, we were

encouraged to raise our step counts. To date, I have lost over 5kg, from a starting point of 97kg. The current Covid-19 situation has made it difficult to calculate how much of an impact it has had on my overall health, but I would say that I am definitely much more active at home. Sitting down on the sofa now feels quite alien.” What has Andrew noticed about himself? “The biggest difference I have personally found is with my eating habits. One of my biggest challenges was with trying new foods, chiefly because of the textures, not necessarily because of taste. Being on this programme has helped me to challenge this head-on. I now eat more fruit, nuts and salad now, and less chocolate and sugary foods. I do feel that my mindset is more positive. I am certainly much more conscious about food and calorie intake, and I am really keen to get outside more when the situation allows.” We are now recruiting participants for the next FREE 12 week block of Fit Cobblers Due to start on Thursday October 1st from 7.30-9.30pm at the PTS Academy Stadium in Carr's Bar. The sessions will take place every Thursday night for all 12 weeks. If you think this is the programme for you then please visit ntfccommunity.co.uk/fitterfans or contact the project officer Akshay Mistry at akshay.mistry@ntfc.co.uk

N

orthampton Town Women are through to the first round of the FA Cup after a 3-1 win away at Bedford Ladies. The Cobblers endured a slow start as they struggled to get control of the game in the first half. Despite this, they managed to take the lead on 37 minutes. Charlie Cooper rose the highest from a Aimee Smith cross; her header struck the cross bar but she reacted quickly to give the Cobblers the lead. But Northampton didn’t have the lead for long; Bedford found an equaliser a few minutes later after a cross from the right hand side looped over the keeper. On the stroke of half-time the Cobblers restored their advantage. Abbie Brewin took a shot from distance and lobbed the keeper to make it 2-1 and give Northampton Town the lead going in to the break. The second-half was tightly contested with nothing between the two sides. Debutant keeper Izzy McDonald pulled off some excellent saves to maintain the Cobblers advantage in a performance which landed her the Player of the Match award. After some Bedford pressure, Northampton gave themselves some breathing space with a Francesca Partridge goal on 78 minutes. A lovely ball from Georgia Tear set Partridge on her way and she slotted home to make it 3-1 and send the Cobblers in to the first round proper of the Women's FA Cup. A resilient performance from the

AIMEE SMITH

Women and manager Josh Oldfield was delighted with the win: “Outstanding character shown by the girls," he said. "Winning when not at our best, especially with senior players unavailable, sums up where we are as a group. We are in to the next round of the Women’s FA Cup, and we have huge momentum going into the league season next weekend!” Next up for the Women is the start of their league campaign. They host Rise Park Ladies tomorrow.

RICHIE BAILEY

T

he Northampton Town U18s got their EFL Youth Alliance League campaign under way with a well-fought 0-0 draw with Peterborough United at Moulton College two weeks ago. The Cobblers were largely on top throughout, winning the midfield battle and creating more and better opportunities than their opponents. The visitors dominated possession for the first 10 minutes and shot over the bar early on. A deep cross found Ewan Clark who volleyed wide at the back-post moments later. On the quarter-of-an-hour mark, a Cobblers free-kick routine forced the Posh keeper into a good save from a close-range header, but the flag was up so it would not have counted. The best chance of the match came a minute later when Lewis Gilbert was played in over the top and shot just wide. Five minutes later, Josh Tomlinson headed wide from six yards as the Cobblers threatened from another set-piece. Liam Cross intercepted a loose ball on the halfway line and drove down the right, beating three men before firing wide soon after. ADD US ON SNAPCHAT officiallyntfc

After half-an-hour, a dangerous Cross free-kick was flicked across goal, but it went out for a goal-kick. The Posh recycled possession after a corner was cleared five minutes later, but the ball was skied over from the edge of the area. The last opportunity of the first half came 10 minutes before the break when Liam Cross fired a free kick into the wall from the edge of the box. The first half had been free flowing with lots of chances being created, but the second half was cagey and neither side could break the other down. Tom Scott fired over from 18 yards with just over 10 minutes to go after Peterborough failed to properly deal with a scramble as the Cobblers had the only real sight of goal in the second period. The Posh had a man sent off for a stamp on Scott less than a minute before the full-time whistle, which brought the tight, tense second half to an end. Starting XI – Berry (GK); Bailey (C), Tomlinson, Dyche, Flanagan; Lack, Scott, Clark, Cross, Curry; Gilbert. Unused Subs – Woods (GK), Hill, Connor, Smith-Howes, O’Keefe.

PLAYER PATHWAY WORKING WELL Huge congratulations to the current or former academy players who have been included in the first team squad in recent weeks. Caleb Chukwuemeka, Ethan Johnston, Morgan Roberts, Max Dyche and Josh Flanagan have all been named in the matchday eighteen in the last few matches, while only injury has prevented Shaun McWilliams and Scott Pollock from joining them. The number of youth team players involved in the first team squad is a huge tribute to the work of the academy and our coaches, the players themselves and of course Keith Curle and his staff who are willing to give these young players their opportunity. The player pathway here is clear evidence of the club’s willingness to develop and progress young players and that shows that the Northampton Town academy is the place for young footballers in Northamptonshire to be. You can read elsewhere in this issue that the academy are holding open trials at the moment for our Development Centres. If you know a talented young footballer please do send them along, you never know where it might lead!

orthampton Town have been awarded Family Excellence status for the seventh season in succession, in recognition of the club's continued commitment to attracting families and young fans, and the engaging level of matchday experience the club provides. EFL clubs received ‘mystery family’ visits during the 2019/20 campaign prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, with their feedback and reports again determining whether each respective club would achieve ‘Family Excellence’ status. During what became an unprecedented season for EFL football in 2019/20, the scheme again recognised that family engagement has continued to thrive across the League, despite supporters being unable to attend live fixtures for the final part of the campaign. The EFL Family Excellence Scheme sees each club assessed across a range of touchpoints, in order to reflect and report on the first-time family experience they encounter. The programme empowers clubs to think differently SUBSCRIBE ON YOUTUBE officiallyntfc

about their interactions with family supporters, encourages them to innovate and consider the specific wants and needs of the family unit and the matchday experience they offer, in order to attract, welcome and retain a new generation of supporters. At the PTS Academy Stadium, the club's popular Grange Mortgages family area continued to prove a big success, while the engagement levels of Clarence with young supporters was also noted. Young supporters continue to enjoy free fruit in the Grange Mortgages family area, the fun and games that take place, the half time entertainment, the In 'n' Autocentres Cup, and so much more. Away from matchday, the club's extensive work in the community continues to grow, with the focus in the last few months on supporting people through the Covid-19 pandemic, including phone calls and messages from the players and Keith Curle and his staff and the #KeepCalmandCobblerOn initiative, led by the Northampton Town Community Trust.

EFL CEO, David Baldwin said, “It is fantastic to see the continued dedication of EFL clubs to provide an exceptional matchday experience for families when attending fixtures across the League. “I would like to congratulate all those that have achieved Family Excellence status for the 2019/20 season setting a consistently high standard for family engagement. “We know nothing beats the joy of watching a live fixture and the EFL and its clubs look forward to welcoming the return of fans to stadia, when it is safe to do so. Up until the Covid pandemic outbreak it is clear from the evidence gathered throughout the Family Excellence Scheme, that young fans and families were experiencing a high standard of matchday experience across the League. "It is testament to clubs’ hard work that the standard of experience offered to families continues to rise, and this will undoubtedly help to ensure a welcoming environment will be provided for all families, once we are able to return to stadia.”

NORTHAMPTON TOWN ACADEMY ACADEMY CREATED FOR PLAYERS WHO LIVE OVERSEAS

N

orthampton Town and FCV International Football Academy, based in Stamford, have formed a partnership to create opportunities for aspiring footballers between 18 and 23, who currently live outside of the United Kingdom. Having emphatically secured promotion to Sky Bet League One via the play-offs at the end of June, the Cobblers can now confirm a collaboration with FCV Academy – where NTFC Academy Manager Ian Sampson worked before returning to the club last Autumn. Founded in 2007, FCV International Football Academy has become a leading private football academy in the UK. It offers courses for aspiring footballers aged 16 and over, and is dedicated to developing players from all around the world while also providing a pathway for academic excellence. Alongside participating in an advanced football programme at Moulton College, players will take part

in online learning sessions delivered by the Institute of Sport, based in Australia. iSport is an esteemed education provider for sporting organisations worldwide, with an emphasis on practical sessions to enhance the learning process. Graham Starmer, FCV Academy managing director, said: “We are grateful to Northampton Town and Moulton College for their support in structuring this venture. “Aspiring footballers now have the opportunity to develop like a professional player, amongst first-class facilities and expert guidance from UEFA A License coaches. “The courses will enhance every individual’s game and provide invaluable insight into life as a professional. “In the short term, the current circumstances with COVID-19 present a challenge. However, players can now register to join and we are preparing so that we are ready for when – as we all hope – things improve. We believe this will

provide the club with increased exposure and allow players from overseas to develop both educationally and as footballers.” James Whiting, Northampton Town Chief Executive, said: “This is a unique opportunity to study the game and be seen in a professional football environment in England. “It’s an extension to the numerous pathways we already offer young players and one that we have been discussing the delivery of with Graham for some time. “On the back of our promotion and the increased international awareness of the club, this is the perfect opportunity and we look forward to working together to welcome the first students in the new year.” Northampton Town International Football Academy will open in January 2021 and players are invited to register their interest now by visiting ntfc.internationalfootball.academy. fter meeting with David Bower, Kelvin Thomas and senior staff at Northampton Town Football Club, the Supporters Trust board has agreed to support the club's proposal for the East Stand completion and wider Sixfields land deal. We hope the club and the council can now progress their negotiations as a matter of urgency so that a completed East Stand can begin delivering ongoing commercial benefits for the club in these challenging and uncertain times for football finances. negotiation moves forward and the detail of the deal becomes clearer. We believe that moving forward in a spirit of mutual openness and transparency on the part of the club, the council and the Trust will ultimately benefit all stakeholders. Accordingly, we also welcome increased engagement from the club with the Trust and the wider fanbase, as part of its commitment to the Supporters Charter, and the publication of the stand and land plans in due course. We all want what is best for our football club and the Supporters Trust looks forward to maintaining a meaningful and constructive relationship with the football club and council in order to achieve that. Northampton Town Chairman

Kelvin Thomas said: “We welcome the support of our proposals from the Trust board. “We are pleased that through asking the questions of the club in two very detailed meetings and obtaining information from NBC from the Freedom of Information requests, that the Trust have been able to see our proposals are in the best interests of the club and the supporters. "We have committed to keeping the lines of communication open with the Trust and that will continue moving forward.
