VIRTUAL GROCERY STORE The retail giant might hope to pioneer, that is, opening the first interactive virtual grocery store. Opening up the store will see the implementation of interactive digital displays to get your virtual shopping experience up and running, where customers are able to browse products as though they were in a physical store in one sense, and this experience is culminated in the convenience of home delivery to boot. A quartet of interactive fridges in the virtual store are there for your perusal. Each of the ‘fridge’ can be scrolled using your hand, and you can browse through the products simply by touching the screens, followed by scanning the product bar codes in order to add them to your basket. More than 80 products are featured, and hopefully your order with fresh, un spoilt items by the time your order arrives at your doorstep!

POINT AND CLICK DICTIONARY Do you see hyperlinks around you?. Basically, the Point and Click Dictionary is a pocketfriendly scanner which is capable of looking up and displaying word definitions on the go – sort of like a hyperlink to words in the physical realm. This does away with the need for you to thumb through large books or type entries, as the device can slide over reading material in a snap. There is also an integrated flip-up camera which will be able to scan any word with a single button press, and the definitions will be shown instantly.

Not only that, this little scanner that could will also deliver audible word pronunciations through its built-in speaker, the Point and Click Dictionary which are sourced from the Collins English Dictionary, and it also delivers translations to and from French, Italian, Spanish, and German courtesy of the award-winning Collins foreign language dictionaries. Other functions include MP3 playback, voice recording capability and a picture viewer.

TEETH WHITENER Some things in life are permanent, and certain opportunities do pass you by but once. Take your teeth for instance, once you lose the set of adult teeth through poor oral hygiene or in an accident, it is gone forever – you might be able to get expensive dental implants or dentures, but it will still not be the original set which you were born with, fashioned through the DNA in your body. Hence, it makes perfect sense to take extra good care.

A dentists, naturally, is the one behind the Award Winning Teeth Whitener, where you will wear the mouthpiece which emits LED light and heat directly to teeth coated with the included hydrogen peroxide gel, helping whiten your teeth by five shades in just five days, talk about quick results, huh? This enclosed treatment system will prevent whitening oxygen from escaping the teeth, so that maximum exposure is achieved for your teeth to remain white for up to 30 days. Of course, it does help if you avoid coffee and tobacco while making other adjustments to your lifestyle to maintain a set of white teeth.

SCRAP PAPER IN, PENCILS OUT There is enough waste paper to be had in every home, office and school on our planet, but what should we do with it? Well, industrial designers have an idea, how about recycling our waste paper into useful pencils? Seems like a good idea and the team has produced a concept machine that does exactly that. The Waste Processor allows users to simply feed a sheet of no-longer-necessary paper into the appropriate slot in the machine, which then tightly wraps it around a pencil lead and voila, the Office waste processor generates an artistic, usable pencil. * Source: Yanko Design

DID YOU

KNOW

?

As computers gain speed, history cycles faster. We have taken a look at some historical highlights of the computer.

PRE 1940 Idea of computers began with the Abacus calculators and further progressed to theoretical machines. In the 1940s, came the expensive huge electronic computers, such as ENIAC, which weighed around whopping 27 tonnes. Alas, frustrated employees were unable to throw these out of the window.

Computers become smaller and easier to use. With explosion of the World Wide Web, emails become the new standard of communication. Internet enables information access like never before in the backdrop of dramatic browser wars. New tech giants emerge as hardware becomes a commodity.

Thankfully, Microprocessors were invented in the 70s and condensed about twenty years of technology into really small chips and set the ball rolling for personal computers. Introduction of GUI in computers, 1984 was no longer 1984 ...

Computers have continued to evolve at breakneck speeds right from powering missions to Mars to enabling you to super poke all your friends on Facebook on your smart phone. We've indeed come a long way. And this is just the beginning.

Pizza

Vending Machine

Pizza vending machines are about to take on the USA! Let’s Pizza actually vends an authentic Italian pie from SCRATCH in all of about two and a half minutes, complete with the necessary pizza cutter and napkins. The Machines, created by Italian Claudio Torghel, were first made in Europe around 3 three years ago and they have been working their way West, ever since. For under 6 bucks, the vending machine delivers a 10.5 inch steaming hot pizza pie with a choice of plain, pepperoni, ham or bacon, with or without tomato. The dough is actually made fresh from flour and water, and each pizza is assembled per order. Special infrared ovens allow for quick, crisp pizza faster than you can say Mama Mia! These futuristic vending machines can actually hold enough ingredients to make around 200 pies and they are even Internet connected, in order to let operators control their inventory and although each pizza will set you back almost 700 calories.

Air Conditioning Controller This is an air conditioning controller designed to adjust the temperature when you're out of the house, reducing the electricity bill. When you're coming home, the system knows, and brings the temperature back to your preferred setting. The system uses a phone app to tell it when you're coming and going. The idea is that you don't have to set the A/C on and off yourself. As with all the other gadgets in this gallery. Its a potentially useful product you might be able to get your hands on at some point.

IP Cameras IP cameras can be handy for keeping an eye on your home office. This one is different because it doesn't need cables - you can plonk it down anywhere within range of its special wireless gateway. The Netgear web site suggests the camera, called the VueZone, will run on batteries for about six months with normal usage. You can also now get a new night vision camera add-on. There's one catch - it only records when you're watching or if you schedule a recording, so the camera is not intended to be used as a security device. You also need to sign up to a plan that allows you to watch over the Internet. Still, it's a sign of where home monitoring can go - at the least, it might give some peace of mind to be able to check in and keep tabs when you're away.

H2O Shower Powered Radio H2O Shower Powered Radio is the world’s first such device that is completely run on water pressure.

Sitting between the water pipe and the shower hose (on the faucet), the H2O Radio has been designed by the team behind the Wind-up Radio, and is powered solely through the motion of water flowing through a small micro turbine which, in turn, charges the internal Ni-Mh cell. That means that there is never any need to externally recharge or replace batteries, and it’s completely waterproof, so will remain in the shower permanently.

The radio itself is FM only, with simple controls for on/off, seek left and right on the bandwidth and volume. It has an FM receipt range of 87.5 – 108MHz, so should be capable of finding all the stations in your area, and a 15uv sensitivity. Audio output is claimed at more than 80mw.

3M PROJECTOR SLEEVE The 3M Projector Sleeve is an iPhone-sized projector that attaches to your phone, letting you display its content on a screen or wall. The Projector Sleeve only works with the iPhone 4 or 4S. You dock your phone in the sleeve, which is slightly longer than and as thick as the iPhone itself, and plug the connector into the 30-pin jack. You charge the Projector Sleeve by plugging its USB cable into a computer or, if you have an adapter, a wall outlet. You can also charge your iPhone when it's in the sleeve, by pressing the Charge button on the bottom. The Sleeve will get about 90 minutes per charge until the image begins to fade noticeably. The projector has a focus wheel on the side, behind the lens. It's possible to get a reasonably sharp focus but it may take a while as the wheel is tiny and its action isn't all that smooth. It's best focused when the Sleeve is placed on a table or other flat surface. Although the projector can be handheld, it makes much more sense to rest it on a surface. A riser to tilt the front of the projector upwards would have been helpful, but it's easy enough to find an object to fill that role.
