A Sensible Schedule To

WEDDING WEIGHT LOSS

Congratulations! You have set the date and your big day is only a few short months away. Not that we are assuming you need to lose a few pounds, but if you have the urge to give it a try, we’ve come up with a few diet and exercise tips to help you along the way. By following these steps, it is possible to look and feel more beautiful on your wedding day. First, it is important to decide how much weight you would like to lose before the wedding. From there, you can break down weekly and monthly goals to be sure you reach your target weight. And, before you begin any sort of fitness/diet program, we encourage you to consult your doctor or healthcare provider. Six months ‘til the big day: We know six months seems like a long way out to start dieting, but it is actually right on schedule if you are planning on losing more than 10 pounds. Start incorporating more green vegetables, beans, low-fat dairy and nuts into your diet. It is also time to step away from processed carbs, sugary foods, foods containing trans fats and to be more conscious of portion sizes. Yes, we acknowledge this is easier said than done, but every time you choose the right foods, you take a step in the right direction. On the exercise front, incorporate three, 45-minute workouts a week with 20 minutes being cardio and the rest strength training. If this is a weak area for you, consider getting in touch with a personal trainer such as Prime Fitness in Hillsdale. They even offer a Bridal Bootcamp that will have you toned and trim for your wedding day. Three months ‘til the big day: Time to evaluate your progress and make adjustments accordingly. If you are not meeting your short-term goals, consider cutting a food vice from your diet until the wedding. Think of it as an investment in your big day. If exercising is becoming a chore, try rounding up some of the members of your wedding party; having a support group will make you work even harder! One month ‘til the big day: Life is going to get very busy. Now is the time to be sure you do not skip meals. With all of the wedding prep going on, it will be very easy to allow yourself to grab a bag of chips or a fast food burger. In just a few short weeks, you can sabotage everything you have worked hard to accomplish. Also, don’t blow off your exercise because things are so hectic. If you can’t find the time for an entire workout, make time for a short yet high-intensity workout to keep that toned body. One week ‘til the big day: Time’s up. You can stop fretting and just enjoy the moment. Resist the urge to fast and try to lose a few more pounds. Drastic fasting can impact your mood severely, making you stressed and unable to enjoy your wedding day. Besides, by now you have had your final fitting and you wouldn’t want your dress to be anything less than a perfect fit. On the flip side of that coin, don’t do any binge eating, either; it is too late for you to have your dress let out! The big day: Congratulations! Your day has finally arrived. Go and enjoy your healthy new body that you have worked so hard to create. Remember, no matter what, you are beautiful! 606

The succulent trend is as durable as the plant itself, so why not embrace its popularity streak? Incorporating succulents into your wedding décor and flower arrangements is just as cool as it was when the fad first began. Succulents are easy to maintain and add a striking element to any ceremony or reception. Whether in an arrangement, on a table, or sitting pretty on their own, succulents are sure to shine no matter how they’re used in your celebration. With so many varieties and pretty color options, there are endless ways to style succulents for your big day. So go ahead and be the trendiest bride ever carrying a bouquet of succulents down the aisle—or, using them a different way. Need inspiration for something unique? Look no further than these succulent wedding ideas.

Succulent Chair Décor Colorful, summery garlands filled with succulents designated this couple’s chairs. They’re a unique alternative to more traditional bride and groom chair signs or floral garlands.

Aisle Décor

Line the aisle of any outdoor wedding with succulent planters to add a splash of color and flair.

Succulent Letters

Turn oversized letters into a statementmaking décor element by planting mixed succulents within the frame. You could do the same with numbers to help guide guests to their seats.

Hair Accessory

To keep your flower crown (and hairstyle!) looking fresh, sub out some more delicate blooms for hardy succulents

Escort Cards

For a fun twist on the classic flowercovered escort card table, consider organizing seating assignments inside an arrangement of succulents

Bridal Bouquet

Balance a brightly colored floral bouquet with soft green succulents

Boutonniere

Pair a succulent with cotton and greenery for this laid-back groom’s boutonniere.

Place Holder

Add a succulent to each place setting to amp up the style of your reception tables. Paired with understated greenery centerpieces, the cacti becomes a key part of the décor.

DIY Succulent Favors Step 1: Remove succulent from container. Add a little water to mini bowl, and place succulent inside. Press soil down to keep plant moist.

What you need: • succulents • mini bowls • bamboo picks • printable tags

Step 2: Cut out printable “Let Love Grow” tags. Take bamboo pick and fold tag in half using adhesive to keep in it place. We used a tape runner, but you could also use a glue stick or a small piece of double stick tape. Step 3: Place bamboo pick with tag in the soil of planted succulent.

Tips And

Ideas For A

Stress-Free Wedding Weddings can create a great deal of stress as you plan for the big day. Incorporate your unique style into your special day, but take some advice that has been used by many couples as they walked down the same path you are traveling. Here are some great tips to avoid the pitfalls that have ruined many big days. Weddings will use a lot of materials to make them memorable, so when you are planning your wedding, consider options that support the green movement. Try making use of recyclable items to limit the amount of waste that is created. Some examples are throwing birdseed at the bride and groom and using cutlery rather than disposable utensils. This will help the environment tremendously and improve your conscience as well. When choosing the menu, may we suggest white wine instead of red wine as your libation of choice. Many of the ladies attending will be wearing dresses that have light colors, so you’ll want to limit the visibility of stains if there happened to be an accidental spill.

When purchasing your wedding cake, there is a great option that could save you money. If you want a fancy wedding cake, purchase a small one for just the wedding party and buy a large sheet cake for the rest of the guests. There will be plenty for all without the expense of a multi-tiered masterpiece. When thinking about wedding jewelry, consider borrowing your jewelry instead of buying it. Your friends and family may have wonderful pieces that they would be willing to let you use free of charge. The jewelry may also hold sentimental value. such as wearing your Grandmother’s string of pearls to make your day even more priceless. Whatever you can dream up, you can also probably make happen— the sky’s the limit! Just remember to stick to some basic advice, and you won’t go too far out of the box, either. We hope this article has given you some fun ideas for a wedding to remember.

Barnweddings

When it comes to charming weddings, no place rivals the rustic barn. From dairy farms turned dream wedding venues to shabby chic DIY locations, a barn wedding has much to offer as long as you plan ahead.

M .

odern brides are choosing to start their married lives in the barn, under high eaves and exposed beams and lines of mason jars. Barn weddings hold infinite possibilities for breathtaking photos and homespun details. But, don’t let the simplicity fool you into thinking a barn wedding is going to be a piece of cake (pun intended) especially when mud, portable restrooms, and uninvited bugs can be major factors. Here are a few particulars that should be on your to-do list while you’re planning your perfect day.

20 22

1. Budget for the extras

This goes for any venue that isn’t full service— but especially barn wedding venues. You’ll most likely be responsible for the tables, chairs, dishes, and other extras. Take into account the additonal cost of of lighting, generators, catering tents, a backup tent for the ceremony, vendor tents, a commercial cleaning of the barn, and access to water and perimeter lighting. Plus, your caterer and entertainment will need to have access to all the electrical outlets they require in the barn.

2. Consider the parking and guest access

Fields and pastures are amazing but making sure they’re car- and wheel-friendly is a must for elderly guests and others being transported to

your barn wedding venue by large vehicles. Hope for sunshine but plan for rain. Visiting the site on a rainy day will give you an idea of how accessable the fields will be when wet.

3. Plan for the insects

Okay, the fireflies are welcome but all the others are off the guest list. Stock up on citronella candles and have them set up around the perimeter of the barn wedding venue. Put together small baskets filled with bug spray in the bathrooms or near the entrance to the barn for guests. If you’re not local to the barn wedding venue’s area, it’s a good idea to chat with someone who knows the nature of the area—and its bugs—during the time of year you’re getting mar-

ried. A good preventative measure is to spray for bugs the day before the wedding.

4. Be prepared for the weather

Parasols and paper fans aren’t just pretty touches when it comes to a barn wedding—they’re imperative during hot months. Barns aren’t known for their ventilation and they can get stuffy quickly. Plan ahead with some air movers such as large fans, misters, or hand-held options.

5. Consider allergy sufferers

6. Potty like you mean it

If you are getting married in a traditional barn, you need to consider your options in this area. Contact a portable toilet vendor and ask for their recommendations. They usually have several and some even have sink and lighting options that will make your guests comfortable. You may want to hire a reception attendant who can maintain those areas throughout the evening to be sure everything is kept stocked and tidy.

If animals are present, so are items such as hay and feed—along with animal smells—which can wreak havoc on anyone with allergies, especially if it’s the bride and groom. If there are animals near or around the barn, do what you can to keep them in their own area so guests can go near them if they want (or not). Offering Benadryl in the bathroom baskets doesn’t hurt, either! 23

Wedding Dreams Making

Come true at

Johnny T’s Next Door By Melissa McCance

Penny Palmer, banquet coordinator for Johnny T’s Next Door, makes it her mission to make every celebration a day to remember.

24

An engaged couple makes many decisions when planning their wedding, and one of the biggest is where to hold the reception. Whether simple or elaborate, a well-planned and executed reception gives the newly-married couple time to relax and celebrate with family and friends. Penny Palmer, the banquet coordinator for Johnny T’s Next Door, is committed to making sure that the bride and groom can truly enjoy their reception: “You will not have to stress about your reception. My staff and I are there to make sure that things run smoothly.”

to build a reception that brings their dreams to life. Winner of the Hillsdale 2018 Readers’ Choice for the best event venue, Johnny T’s Next Door has clearly done an outstanding job for many people. “As long as we stay within health and safety regulations, there isn’t much we can’t do to create the event that is just what the couple wants. And, we are one of the few venues that still allows real candlelight,” says Penny. She loves working with bridal couples and admits that there’s always a bit of tug when a wedding is over and her association with the families ends.

With almost 30 years of experience in event planning, Penny knows how to work with a couple and their families

One challenge for Penny is the effect of the “internet era:” people browse online and put venues on their list of possibili-

There are still open dates next year, but they are filling up quickly.

ties based solely on photos and web pages rather than visiting the sites. “You really need to see the venue and get a feel for the location, the room, and the amenities,” Penny explains. While it’s fine to make some decisions from internet information such as size and physical location, bridal couples should remember that carefully-staged photos can make almost any venue look good while hiding significant flaws. Johnny T’s Next Door offers a bi-level room accommodating up to 350 guests with large raised areas on each side flanking an open floor that is ideal for dancing. The current room fee is $800 and includes not only the room itself but also white linen tablecloths, linen napkins, dishes, silverware, and glassware. The staff will set up, clear away, and clean the room after the event. If needed, Penny has a wide array of centerpieces and other extras like decorated card boxes, textured columns, chair covers, table runners, etc., that can be rented as well. This means fewer items for the bride to purchase and bring into the venue. Another stress-reducer is careful, thorough planning. Penny encourages brides to search sites like Pinterest and bring in pictures of reception styles and decor they like. This gives her a clearer idea of the desired look for the reception than she gets from a description. After every detail is covered, Penny puts together a printed summary that is shared with each department at the venue so everyone knows what needs to happen and when. Also, she remains on site during the entire reception. If a problem should arise—not a common occurrence—she is right there to take care of it immediately. A very important component of a successful reception is the food. No matter if the couple chooses an hors d’oeuvres spread, a buffet, or a plated meal, they want their guests to enjoy what they’re eating. This is where

Johnny T’s Next Door has a true advantage. Johnny T’s Bistro is a Hillsdale landmark, and all the food is housemade from their own recipes—no giant tub of commercially-prepared potato salad dumped in a bowl at this venue! Penny said that any dietary restrictions can be accommodated, thus eliminating another area of concern for the couple. A full-service bar is available if desired. Anyone considering Johnny T’s Next Door for a wedding reception in 2019 should contact Penny immediately. There are still open dates, but she already has many bookings for the coming year. The banquet hall is located at 173 E. South St. in Hillsdale, and Penny can be reached by calling 517-439-1100 or emailing banquet@johnnytsbistro.com.

You want your wedding décor to be anything but basic. If you’re planning your wedding on your own or simply don’t know where to begin with your event designer, fear not. These easy décor hacks are here to take your reception to the next level. From light bulbs to wine corks, you won’t believe what you can do with everyday household items. 1. Floral Lanterns For a surprisingly elegant piece of décor, ditch the candle and fill your lantern with flowers. Line your aisle or hang the lanterns from the ceiling for a fairytale vibe.

4. Lightbulb Vases Light up your reception with this innovative décor idea. For an added country feel—add twine to cover the part that is typically screwed into your lamp.

2. Garland Backdrop There are so many fun ways to create a backdrop. Whether it’s for a photo background or simply décor, garlands make use of an otherwise empty space while being extremely customizable for epic pics.

5. Inscribed Pallets Pallets are all the rustic rage right now. Have your calligrapher inscribe your dinner menu or the day’s schedule for a fun (and inexpensive) way to decorate your reception while serving a purpose.

3. Wine Cork Table Numbers There are too many table number ideas out there to count (get it?) but this one is sure to impress. Plus you get to pop bottles in preparation.

6. Vintage Suitcase Card Collection A card box is not strictly for utility. Use this opportunity to incorporate it into your décor and theme as a whole. We love the idea of using a vintage suitcase. Plus you can just lock it up and carry it away at the end of the evening!

7. Spray Paint Is Your BFF The possibilities are endless here. Spray paint candleholders to match your color scheme or use metallic spray to turn dollar store vases into gorgeous centerpieces! 8. Hanging Frames This has to be one of the easiest and coolest-looking hacks to hit the wedding world. Not only do hanging frames make for flawless photo ops, but add a little spray paint and your Goodwill frame will look like it belongs in a museum.

eddings symbolize the coming together of two people. If the bride or groom (or both) have children, the wedding becomes more than the joining of two people; it becomes the joining of two families. Including children throughout the wedding day can add meaningful moments and memories that enhance the celebration. Allow everyone to be included right from the start. When the wedding planning begins, be sure to include the children 28

as much as possible. Let them help pick out (or even design) the invitations, let them choose the wedding favors, pick out decorations, flowers, table settings, etc. Also, let the kids have a say in what they wear for the big day. They might like a certain color or style of dress or prefer bow ties to regular ties. Create opportunities to involve everyone in the ceremony. Depending on their ages, kids can be part of the bridal party in a variety of roles. From ushering or escorting the bride down the aisle to being a junior bridesmaid, flower girl or ring bearer, there are numerous spots they

can fill. They can even be your best man and maid of honor! Incorporate them into your wedding vows. Consider writing your own vows and make a commitment not only to your new spouse but to your stepchildren as well. Create a new family portrait. Spend some time thinking of creative and meaningful family photos. Get your photographer’s input on how to capture the significance of the day perfectly through photographs. Create a unity item as a family. Many weddings have a unity candle, but the

joining of two families can be an opportunity to create something special to represent the day you all became one family. Create sand art by giving each family member a different color of sand and have each person pour it into a vase or jar. The same could be done with different kinds of candy. Create a custom puzzle board with each person’s name as a different piece. Use a fingerprint from each person to make a unique piece of jewelry. Take a trip together after the wedding. While the two of you will probably want to get away on a proper honeymoon after the ceremony, soon after the wedding plan a trip together as your new family. Include the kids in this as well to make for a more fun and memorable vacation.

Wedding Traditions

C

• and the meanings behind them By Sarah Gray

ouples planning for their big day have a lot of planning to do. Many long-standing traditions are already built into the day which the couple may choose to include in their celebration. But, where did these customs come from and why are they still used today?

The wedding veil – It is believed the wedding veil originated in Ancient Rome as a way to guard the bride’s face from jealous evil spirits wanting to spoil the wedding. The wedding veil has also been a symbol of modesty. Throwing rice – This tradition was originally meant to symbolize rain which meant fertility, prosperity, and 32

good fortune. Although this tradition is almost completely non-existent today, many believe it fell out of favor because it was thought the birds would eat the uncooked rice causing their stomachs to swell and the birds to die. According to the online and urban legend fact-checking website Snopes.com, this theory is simply false. While no birds will be harmed if you choose to have rice

thrown at your wedding, most couples choose bubbles or sparklers as a festive send-off instead. The wedding party – This tradition has roots back in ancient Rome. During that time, a wedding needed 10 witnesses to be considered legally binding. In addition, the bridesmaids and the bride all dressed alike because it was thought

this would confuse vengeful spirits. The Bible mentions bridesmaids as well, but in a different context. When Jacob married both Leah and Rachel, each woman brought her own “maid” (or bridesmaid); however, they functioned as actual maids. During the Victorian era, bridesmaids made party favors, organized flowers, and accompanied the bride down the aisle, more fitting with the role of today’s wedding party. The first look – While it seems to be falling out of favor more and more, the tradition states it is bad luck for the bride and groom to see each other on their wedding day prior to the wedding ceremony. The origin of this idea goes back to the time of arranged marriages with the thought being if the bride and groom saw each other before the wedding it would give one (or both) of them a chance to back out of the wedding. Clinking to kiss – This is a tradition many couples either love or hate, or love to hate. The custom involves having guests at the reception clink their glasses with a piece of cutlery until the bride and groom kiss. The practice began back in medieval times when enemies would often spike each other’s wine with poison. So as a show of trust and honesty, two people would clink glasses, take a drink and then kiss to show no poison was in either glass. Couples who are not a fan of this tradition have turned to alternatives such as ringing bells or having guests sing a song with the word love in it. Flower girl/ring bearer- Not every wedding has ring bearers and flower girls, but for many weddings, the little ones steal the show. Young children have been a part of wedding ceremonies for centuries including Ancient Egypt, medieval times, and the Victorian era. It is thought the pillow the ring bearer carries represents the couple’s dreams and a flower girl symbolizes fertility. Both their ring bearer and flower girl also signify hope and innocence.

Something old, new, borrowed, blue – This is usually a fun tradition the bride likes to incorporate into her dress or accessories. It derives from an Old English rhyme and each of the four items stands for something significant. Something old ties to the bride’s family and her past. Something new signifies a life to come with her husband. Something borrowed is an item from someone in a successful marriage to pass on as “good luck.” Something blue represents faithfulness, loyalty, and purity. Whether couples choose to use these traditions or modify them to their taste, it is clear weddings have evolved and changed drastically over the years.

Step-Parent Adoptions Not infrequently, one or both spouses bring children of their own to a marriage. For some such couples, stepparent adoption may be a desirable option. In a stepparent adoption, the non-parent spouse adopts the child of the other spouse so that both spouses become parents of the child. By Laura Rahe Simply Hers Magazine

Laura Rahe Licensed Michigan Attorney Law Office of Timothy E. Dixon 27 N. Broad St. Hillsdale, MI 49242 Ph: (517) 437-4070 Fx: (517) 437-4062

34

As with other types of adoption, the person seeking to adopt must file a petition to adopt. A court investigation must take place regarding issues including the best interests of the child. In addition, the rights of the non-spouse parent must be terminated in order for the adoption to take place. In most adoption cases, the court enters an order terminating both parents’ parental rights. This is not true in stepparent adoptions. In such cases, the court does not terminate the rights of a custodial parent who is married to the petitioner for adoption. Unless the other parent has passed away, termination of his or her rights may take place in one of three ways. First, the non-spouse parent may consent to the adoption and to termination of his or her rights. Under Michigan law, if the parent does not consent to the adoption, the court may terminate that parent’s rights involuntarily if both of the following are true: 1) the parent is able to support or assist in supporting the child but “has failed or neglected to provide regular and substantial support for the child, or, if a support order has been entered, has failed to substantially comply with the order, for a period of two years or more before the filing of the petition”; and 2) the parent has “the ability to visit, contact, or communicate with the child, has regularly and substantially failed or neglected to do so for a

period of two years or more before the filing of the petition.” Both the failure to support and the failure to contact must be present for a two-year period. For example, the Michigan Court of Appeals held that a father who made two visits and one telephone call in a two-year period had substantially failed to visit, contact, or communicate with his child despite having the ability to do so. Whether the requirements have been met in any given situation is a matter for the court to decide based on the particular facts and circumstances present. If the court does not terminate the other parent’s rights based on consent or based on failure to support and contact, it is sometimes possible to terminate using the juvenile code. There are numerous grounds provided by statute in cases of abuse and neglect that are beyond the scope of this article. These grounds, of course, may or may not apply in any given situation. Generally, adoption cuts off the rights off all relatives of the relatives of a former parent. There is a limited exception in the case of some stepparent adoptions. If the former parent passed away as opposed to consenting to the adoption or having his or her rights involuntarily terminated, the law allows his or her parents to seek grandparenting time. Many couples view stepparent adoption as a desirable means of completing their family and providing a child with a mother or father. When proceeding down this road, it is helpful to retain competent counsel to assist with the legal process.

DIY Fried Herbed Almonds From Cook Like A Champion.

Ingredients: • 2 cups *blanched almonds • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper * If you can’t find blanched almonds, you can make them yourself by placing raw almonds in a bowl and pouring boiling water over them. Let sit for about one minute then drain and rinse with cold water. Turn nuts onto a tea towel. Squeeze each almond between fingers to slip the skins off. If you find that not all the skins slip off easily, you can repeat the blanching process and try again.

Instructions:

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium (not medium-high) heat. Add almonds and cook until fragrant and a light golden color, about 10-12 minutes. (Note: Almonds can come out too dark if the heat is a little too high.) Stir in thyme and remove from heat. Add salt and pepper to taste, then pour onto a cookie sheet and let cool completely. Store in an air tight container for up to 2 weeks. To package the almonds, use small window tin-tie bags decorated with the new Chalkboard style labels. Add a small piece of twine and a sprig of fresh thyme for extra decoration.

Wedding GarTer

Supplies: • sewing machine • your choice of lace (lengths t.b.d.) • your choice of ribbon • thread that matches the ribbon • 1/2” elastic • large safety pin • scissors • measuring tape • charm or button accent (optional)

Everyone is different, so follow these easy steps to find the length that your ribbon and lace should be. Start by measuring the circumference of your leg (distance around the area of your leg where you want to wear the garter). In our case, it was 14”. To have the perfect amount of gathering for your garter, add your number plus 7”. For us that was 21”; cut your ribbon and lace to your specific number. Then, for the elastic, take your first number and minus 3”; in this example that equaled 11”. This will ensure that your garter won’t fall off your leg! First, sew the ribbon on top of your lace. Keep the stitching as straight as you can. Now for the second seam. Sew the opposite edge of the ribbon to the lace. At this point you are halfway done! Now take your cut piece of elastic and put a large safety pin on the end. Next, thread the safety pin between the ribbon and lace. Keep moving the safety pin with elastic until it’s all the way through. The elastic is shorter than the ribbon and lace so you will have to gather it up as you go. Be careful not lose the other end of your elastic! Once you have the elastic all the way through, pin both ends so you don’t lose them. With the right sides of the ribbon facing each other, sew down the side of the lace. This is the last seam of your garter. Trim the strings and the edge clean. Add embellishment of choice such as rhinestones, buttons or monogram letter. 44

DIY Marbled Clay Ring Dish

Supplies:

–white, black, and colored oven bake clay (a few ounces of colored clay and the 1.75 pound white clay will make several dishes!) -X-Acto knife or plastic clay knife -small bowl or baking ramekin that is oven safe –gold liquid gilding and small paintbrush -rolling pin or large round jar -large can or jar to trace around –glaze to seal dish (optional)

1. Roll each color of clay that you want to use into a snake about 5” long. I usually make two larger rolls of white, a medium roll of grey, a small roll of any color I am using, and then an extra small roll of black. I don’t have exact clay measurements for you (and most people don’t have a scale to weigh exact ounces of clay), so just use the photo as a guide. You basically want enough total clay to roll out a 6” circle, but don’t worry about getting exact amount of one color or another. Even if you use the same recipe every time, each dish will look different. 2. Combine the smaller rolls into one big roll and twist together. 3. Roll the large twist into a snake about twice the original length to combine the colors. Twist the ends opposite ways after every few motions to give the colors more of a candy cane look. Once it’s twice the length, fold the snake in half and twist the two ends together, as pictured above. Repeat the rolling, folding, twisting, and rolling again process 2-3 times. 4. Smoosh all the clay into a ball. You want to see most of your colors on the surface of the ball, so pull the ball in half and re-smoosh together if you don’t. 5. Use a rolling pin or glass jar to roll out your marbled ball. I like to use a glass jar so I can see what is happening as I roll harder or softer over certain colors. The colors should blend together and create a marbled pattern as you roll over it. Try rolling different directions, from the edge, from the center, etc. to push the clay from different angles. Roll to 1/4” thick. 6. Use a round item about 6” wide as a template and cut out your dish circle with an X-Acto or clay knife. 7. Place your circle gently into a oven-safe bowl or ramekin that is a little smaller than your circle so it will sag a little in the center and give you more of a dish shape. Bake the bowl according to the temperature on the clay package (mine was 15 minutes at 275°F). Remove the bowl from the oven and allow the clay to cool before turning the larger bowl upside down and tapping lightly until the clay dish falls out. 8. Once the clay is completely cool, use a small brush to paint the rim of the dish and allow the paint to dry. Seal the dish with a glaze if you desire. The glaze won’t make the item food safe or totally waterproof, but it will give you a glossy finish.
