DESCRIPTION OF PURIFICATION TECHNOLOGIES APPLIED The type of waste delivered Vallesabbia Servizi Treatment Centre is extremely varied. The first stage of the process consists in the control and acceptance of liquid waste, via specific laboratory analyses; once accepted, the waste is then temporarily stored in special tanks, divided according to the class (CER code). Such qualitative diversification required the design and implementation of a plant with a multiplicity of treatments applied and integrated between them. For example, oily emulsions require an energetic treatment with specific de-emulsifiers and oil separation takes place via a lamellar oil separator; while waste characterised by inorganic contamination undergoes a physical-chemical process with controlled pH, able to ensure the removal of a wide range of pollutants such as: Suspended solids, metals, fluorides, phosphorus, surfactants, etc. Water with very high contamination, generally considered non-purifiable with “normal” methods is pre-treated with Vacuum Evaporation. All the clarified water obtained following the processes described above, before being drained, undergo an “activated sludge” biological treatment (using 1000 m3 oxidation tanks) through which the dissolved and biodegradable organic component is removed. And as a possible additional safety measure, before entering the public sewer system, the water leaving the biological stage can be processed further via filtration on quartzite and activated carbon beds. After each treatment, and in any case before drainage into the public sewer system, the quality of the purified water is analysed by an equipped chemical laboratory inside the Treatment Centre. In the event of non-compliance, the waters undergo purification again.
