ASK THE EXPERT

BAND SEARCH

Photo by Paul Retherford Wedding Photography

So, now you are engaged. The hectic time between the time you received your ring and the time of your wedding has now begun. Wedding bands are the forgotten item but some of the most important. Your wedding is an amazing event and should be commemorated as such with symbols that will remain with you for the rest of your life. The wedding band has been described over the years as many things. The unbroken circle to symbolize everlasting love is probably the most widely held belief. The guys always want “just something simple”. They claim to not care, but when they start looking at all the different styles, they realize that they actually do have an opinion. The wedding band is a nice way to get him involved in the excitement of the wedding and also to give him an individual choice about the way he wants his bond to you to be symbolized. Ladies’ wedding bands are typically designed by an artist to accentuate the engagement ring. Most designers have a good eye for what style of band will go best with a given engagement ring and then they produce that look. It is usually best to go with the band that was made for a certain engagement ring rather than to mix and match styles. The look is significantly driven by the style and shape of the engagement ring. If ladies’ wedding bands are not made to correctly coordinate with the engagement ring, then the final look is sometimes unwieldy and unattractive. The choice is, of course, very individual and the thing to do is to have fun with the process without feeling pressured or overwhelmed.

ABOUT ANDERSON BROTHERS JEWELERS

Gentlemen’s wedding bands have undergone significant evolution over the last 20 years. A gentleman’s band originally was a plain old 6 mm wide yellow gold band. The modern groom has choices available now, ranging from the traditional, and most desirable, gold and platinum to new, non-traditional metals like titanium, tungsten carbide, palladium, cobalt, and stainless steel. There are numerous different inlays available. They each display different personalities. A groom has virtually unlimited choices to make to best show his individuality. The outdoorsman might choose a camo inlay while the carpenter might enjoy rosewood. For the industrial modern groom, a stainless steel band with engraving could be an option.

Anderson Brothers Jewelers was founded by J.C. Anderson in 1923 and has enjoyed a long success within the Lubbock community. Anderson Brothers continues to serve numerous multi-generation bridal clients. Anderson Brothers is the only member of the prestigious American Gem Society in the Lubbock area. This membership assures the prospective client that they will receive the best service and finest products available at competitive prices.

The point is to have fun and choose a ring that portrays the look that you want while at the same time symbolizing your marriage to the most wonderful person in your world.

BINDER

Planning a wedding is a huge task that no bride should take on alone. Family, friends and your soon-to-be are great people to have around to help, but there is one companion that is never busy, always ready, and super cute—your trusty binder. Binders are great resources to keep you organized for your special day. It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

Brides

Let this easy 3-step guide help you to putting together a binder that is most effective for you and your big day!

BINDER BRIDES

Step

C H O O S E YO U R B I N D E R

T

his step is easy: Pick a binder! This will be something you carry with you to all your appointments and planning sessions. Your binder should be big enough to keep track of all your items but small enough to be portable! Here’s some of our super cute favorites from Zazzle.

This binder is simple and elegant and matches any bride! You don’t want your binder to be overwhelming—it’s here to help you. It’s a cute tool that will help you stay on track for your special day. This binder is easily personalized but not overbearing. The colors, names on the spine and text can all be changed to fit your personality.

- 18 -

Another one of our favorites is a little more stylized for the bride that wants details everywhere. This binder allows for even more personalization. This black and white chalkboard inspired binder is right on trend! The colors let the design take center stage and become an inspiration point for the rest of your planning. The shabby-chic wedding can be housed in this binder with chalkboard motif, bows and delicate flowers. We can’t get enough!

2 Step

Now that you have your binder, you have to fill it! We recommend putting an adorable photo of you and your groom-to-be as the front page. A sweet reminder to stay calm, organized and focused when going through your binder. The first few pages should be all about inspiration! Any clippings, prints, little notes of ideas should go in the front.

Dedicate tabs to all of the major components: venues, reception colors and details, honeymoon, etc. There are great binder accessories to make your binder even easier to flip through.

DIVIDE AND INSPIRE

Be sure to keep all-important contact information in your binder as well. We recommend organizing to your needs, just like your dress, make the binder work for you! You can dedicate an entire section to cards from vendors or a running list of all your contacts that is easy to update.

BINDER BRIDES

our binder should not be your only means of sanity throughout the planning process, but it will definitely help. Bring it with you when you’re out meeting planners, florists, caterers, anyone and everyone who will be involved in your wedding. Your binder will keep your vision clear when you meet with different vendors. It’s a great jumping off point for everyone involved with your special day. Your binder is your walking Pinterest board—edit, add, remove, do whatever needs to be done so that your binder remains a tool that gets you one step closer to the wedding of your dreams.

T H E P RO P O S A L

From Andrew: We started the evening off with dinner at Abuelo’s . In the middle of dinner my (Andrew’s) mom called and asked them to go out to his grandparent’s farm for some pumpkins. When they got there, I played a movie of their friends and family sending encouragements to Ashlyn heading into this new season of life. After the movie was over, I washed her feet as an act of showing her that I wanted to serve her for the rest of my life. I then prayed for her. Finally, they danced to one of her favorite songs by Celine Dion. I got down on one knee and proposed. Lots of friends and family came out that night to celebrate with us.

- 31 -

THE BEGINNING

From Andrew: We met our second week of college at Hardin Simmons University. We instantly became close friends, and soon best friends. Friends and family constantly badgered the us about how we would end up together, but blew them off thinking “no, no, no that will never happen.” Well, since God has such a sense of humor, 3 and a half years later God revealed a whole new plan in their lives to pursue more than a friendship. I patiently waited as Ashelyn prayed about the situation for 6 months. During that time the Lord prepared both of our hearts to pursue a relationship and one year later I proposed on November 10, 2012.

THE DRESS

F I R S T LO O K

At first, I was very against this idea. My planner made a good point that getting the pictures done before the wedding would really help with time. I was so thankful for making this decision, because getting to see Andrew before everything got started helped me get through the pressures of the day. I got to take 15 minutes to rest in his arms and share my heart since I knew I wouldn’t be able to do that until the wedding was over.

- 32 -

From Ashlyn: I really didn’t have intentions to find my dress that day, but you can’t help it when you just try on THE DRESS. It was completely different from what I was looking for, but the second I put it on I knew it my dress. I felt exactly like the Bride I wanted to be on my wedding day.

FA-

VO R I T E M O M E N T S

The vows were one of my favorite. Each of our vows were personal to the other and came straight from the heart. It was such a joy to hear him be vulnerable to his feelings and say exactly how he felt.

T H E F LO W E R S

This is going to sound completely silly, but I really do not remember. I trusted my florists completely and I told him to choose whatever flowers he wanted just as long as he used Sunflowers, because they are my favorite. Outside of those two I do not know what he used. All I knew is that they looked perfect at the wedding.

THE FUTURE

Wherever God leads. I need to finish graduate school as Andrew works full time and then we plan on buying a house in Abilene, Tx. We don’t plan on having children in the next couple of years, but again, God may have a completely different plan. Just like he did with our friendship. God’s plan is always good and I trust that he knows exactly what he is doing. ■

B E S T A DV I C E

Don’t get completely stuck on having it done one specific way. Planning a wedding is about flexibility. This doesn’t mean you have to give up your dream wedding, it just means that you don’t have to get overwhelmed when things don’t exactly how planned. Things will work out, I promise, you just have to focus on the importance of walking down the aisle with the one you love. That’s all that matters.

book review top 3 wedding planning books for your big day!

T H E W E D D I N G P L A N N E R & O RG A N I Z E R B Y: M I N DY W E I S S In keeping with our Binder Bride theme, we chose to review a binder that serves as a planning guide. This binder comes in tough canvas case with easy to carry handles. It has great plastic pockets for all of the cards, fabrics and other wedding knick-knacks you might pick up along the way. The extra plastic page protectors make this binder easy to use if you’re on the run. Additionally, it comes with a stack of Notes papers for you to jot down any inspiration that might come to you. This binder is already detailed in the cutest way so there’s no need for you to worry about appearances. Each new section comes with examples to help guide you through every detail; there are example invitations, thank you notes, and seating charts. This binder is in it for the long haul. We would definitely recommend this binder for longer engagements. It’s sturdy with plenty of room to grow!

E M I LY P O S T ’ S W E D D I N G PLANNER B Y: P E G G Y P O S T This charming little organizer comes out of the renowned Emily Post Institute, a leader in etiquette. It begins at the most important step: You’re Engaged! It begins your journey from 24 months out and gives brides a master to-do list. For those brides that are having shorter engagements, it also outlines what should be done by the final weeks. Each section has a pocket to tuck away important cards, ideas or other notes to hold onto. Emily Post’s wedding planner see its brides all the way through until the “I Do’s” and back. The “Forever After” section is a how-to on what to do now that you are newlyweds. “Your wedding lives on…” as you being to select wedding photos, write thank you cards and even host a wedding party reunion. We love this book and think it’s great for any modern bride.

BOOK REVIEW

W E D D I N G P L A N N I N G & M A N AG E M E N T B Y: M AG G I E DA N I E L S A N D C A R R I E LOV E L E S S This wedding book is dedicated to “those who help create a happily ever after,” and this book does just that! The book makes sure to keep all types of brides in mind. Brides from Kenya to a couple in Maryland- Daniels and Loveless have thought of everything. The book encourages all kinds of creativity and personalization without losing the touch of sophistication that all weddings have. This wonderful book moves from broad traditions to minute. Our favorite part of this planning book if the thoughtfulness that is woven throughout. It’s efficient and structured to keep brides calm and feeling in control, but most importantly, it never forgets that your special day is all about you.

We chose to add a parasol (from Wedding Star) and yummy sundaes!

SIMPLY IN LOVE

P O P O F C O LO R Lindsay and Brady started off the day with classic outdoors photo with a pop of teal. Her chunky necklace and delicate parasol compliment her crisp, collared white dress. When people think of bridal registries they see fancy china that you only use on holidays, household knickknacks that will never be used and a lot of other stuff that’s supposed to be wanted, but never really needed. Deciding what to put on your gift registry can be a daunting task. We’ve compiled a top-ten list of things that our modern brides would love!

1 2. HOSTING AC C E S S O R I E S

1. LINENS

There is nothing more refreshing than brand new towels. Every couple deserves to be pampered as newlyweds. Don’t leave the honeymoon behind; registering for great towels and sheets keeps the luxury around. Not to mention, you never know when a guest will drop by to visit.

- 46 -

A house full of friends is a home. Register for great cheese plates, fun wine glass accessories, and personal serving dishes, serving pieces the works for a hostess with the most-ess. Don’t have any parties planned? Have a party of two and enjoy your new husband and service pieces. The works!

3 3. SUBSCRIPTIONS

Birchbox, Julep, Frank & Oak, Stylemint & more—subscription boxes are a huge trend this year. They are a great gift year-round, but we love them for a wedding. The bride and groom each get their own personal box of style. With your newlywed life, spoiling yourself can slip through the cracks while you’re settling into your new life, so let these great subscriptions do it for you!

2

5 5 . D I G I TA L D E A L S

There are so many things couples use that our parents would never think of needing—like itunes gift cards, Amazon Prime membership, Hulu Plus or Netflix for those cozy nights in. Money is always a delicate thing to give, luckily American Express and Visa gift cards make money giving subtle and chic.

4 . T R AV E L T R E AT S

Matching, easy-to-spot luggage or beach towels is a must for the jet setting couple. Getting somewhere has never been easier, either. Gifting miles is a great way to treat the adventurous couple. 1,000 miles of travel start at $29.50! Jet set with adorable towels!

- 47 -

6. COUPLE TIME

In this modern world of go-go-go a newlywed couple needs time to enjoy their time together and relax. We suggest gifting some couple’s time at a local spa or even a home spa-care. Not the pampering type? Ask for golfing lessons or another hobby that you and your husband can pick up together.

6

7. BOOKS

7

8. HOME DÉCOR

Think ahead to your home after the wedding and envision all the things that make it yours. Soft pillows, cozy throws, and cute coffee table accessories. Go ahead and register for the cute, cuddly stuff because sometimes personal is practical! Esepcially things you love but may never actually purchase for yourself.

8 - 48 -

We love a good coffee table book! There are so many big print books out there that can give a living space a finishing touch. Modern etiquette books mixed with vintage home design books make any gift registry an easy-buy.

1 0 . W H AT E V E R YO U WA N T ! This registry list is just a guideline for those out of the box registry gifts, but at the end of the day you are in control of that registry gun. See something you like? Get it! See something useful? Get it! Your family and friends want to make the transition from home alone to home with each other as easy as possible—so let them!

9 9 . B AC H E LO R / E T T E PA D R E P L AC E M E N T S

Registering is the perfect time to replace those mismatched silverware sets, chipped bowls and other things that have been with you since you moved out of your parents’ house. Registering is the best time to combine you and your soonto-be’s styles together in a perfect blend of home items. Time to move on from your college plastic cups to something classier.

T H E P RO P O S A L

From Amy: I was with friends on our way to Midland to for a Christmas party. During the car ride, we talked about mine and Chris’ future. I realized Chris hadn’t asked my best friend for my ring size. This made me realize our engagement was further away than I originally thought, and I was bummed! About halfway, they pulled the car over at OUR park. I noticed Chris’ car and spotted him waiting in the grass. I had no clue what was happening. I got out of the car and walked over to him, while my friends drove away. He had a blanket laid out and I thought this was just a sweet little date before our party. He had a box waiting for me. It was a pile of letters written out (He loves hand written letters) of the emails we had written to each other during the 5 weeks I spent in Africa. I sat there reading many of them with him just amazed. I still wasn’t certain what was happening. Then he said he had one more letter, and he made me stand up. At the end of the letter he said “I love you.” He had refrained from ever saying “I love you” because he only wanted to say it to his future wife. He dropped to one knee and asked! I buried my face in my hands and said yes!

REAL WEDDINGS

THE BEGINNING

We were friends all through college, and remained in Lubbock for our jobs after graduation. Through those years our friendship got closer, but we never tried dating. In December 2011 he completely surprised me and told me his feelings for me. At that point, I was not able to see past the potential damage to our friendship. We went on two dates, and I then quickly ended any hopes of “us”. At this point, he lived with my best friends so I saw him almost every day. Over the next few months, I was challenged by those friends with difficult conversations about if I was being open to the Lord or if my reasons for not pursuing things with Chris were valid. During, that time I begged the Lord to give me clarity on what he wanted me to do. In April, I called Chris up and asked if we could talk. He had recently moved to Midland for a coaching position. He agreed to meet me halfway in Lamesa, TX at Forest Park. With much hesitation, he was so gracious to give me a second chance. The rest is history!

THE DRESS

I was never the girl who planned out their wedding or pictured her wedding dress, so I had no clue what I was looking for. I wanted to just walk in, find one I liked, and be done. After trying 3 places, I was getting frustrated that it wasn’t as easy as I thought. Then we tried Brides in Amarillo, TX. It was the most welcoming place with the nicest people. I remember saying, “All I know is I do NOT want lace.” Then I stood in front of the mirror choosing “the dress”. Solid lace! Ha! (Doing the exact opposite of what I wanted at first seemed to be a trend!) It was mermaid, sweetheart top, low cut back. I loved it.

FAVO R I T E M O M E N T S

I have so many! Our first look and how precious that time was with Chris as he prayed for us. Walking down the aisle to our friend Jimmy McNeal singing “My Redeemer’s Love” by Sovereign Grace Music. Seeing Chris cry as I walked down the aisle (That was the first time I’ve seen him cry!) Worshiping with all of our guests at the beginning of the ceremony. The 3 ring bearers walking down the aisle with HUGE white balloons. And so many more!

T H E F LO W E R S

All I knew was that I wanted our colors to be gray and coral. Southern Elegance Design had a very difficult job, I didn’t even know what I wanted as far as blooms. We met at their wholesaler and I pointed out any bloom I liked. I let them do the rest. The end result was better than I could have ever asked for. They nailed my vision, no matter how unclear it was! That’s talent!

FAVO R I T E D E TA I L S

We served breakfast burritos from Market Street to the guests around 10:00pm since they had worked up an appetite on the dance floor! The Christmas lights beautifully illuminated the dance floor. Chris and I had our own last dance once all guests headed to line up to throw flower petals, and it was very sweet and special.

4 Steps to Radiant Skin from engagement to wedding

Y

ou just got engaged! Yes you should have your nails done but you also should start thinking about skin care for your big day! Stress causes hormonal changes. Hormonal changes cause acne. With all of the details, excitement, and stress of planning a wedding, it’s not at all surprising that brides often have breakouts before the big day. The key to keeping skin clear is to start with a preventative skin care program at least two months prior to the event, even if you are not currently experiencing problems with acne. Use it consistently, and use the same program on your chest and back. Board certified dermatologist, Dr. Elaine Cook recommends a 4-step skin care program that is appropriate for a bride to use before the big day. Dr. Elaine’s® Advanced Skin Treatment skin care is available online at SkinTreatment.com where shipping is always free.

lijah and Ronnie are such a great pair. For this shoot, Alijah was bold and unafraid of patterns. Bright accessories played up her golden locks while Ronnie stood cool and collected in neutral colors. Her bright colors were chosen to look great in photos and never overshadowed or washed out her beautiful complexion. He mastered hints of color with the always-sophisticated collar over sweater look. They went from dinner to a comfy swing and the rest is history!

Creating a wonderful romantic dinner table and recreating their proposal! This is a great engagement shoot idea, recreating when he popped the question and sharing it with friends and family. FOR THE GROOM

veryone always fusses about the Bride’s ring, but don’t be discouraged guys- this section is all about you! Grooms, it’s important for you to find the wedding band that is perfect for you, after all, you’ll be wearing it for the rest of your life! We have a huge variety of wedding bands to recommend for all types of grooms. Whether you are the “business” man or the “like to get your hands dirty” man, there is a perfect ring for you!

FOR THE GROOM

“A N Y T H I N G B U T T R A D I T I O N A L”

Not every ring is traditional and simple. This ring is engraved with a design that gives it a handsome, masculine touch. If polished isn’t your style, go for this darker more casual look. We love it because it gives men an alternative from solid gold and silver! (Silver ring by Benchmark-Ring)

“MASTER OF DISGUISE”

This ring is great because the bling is camouflaged! If you can’t come to grips with your wedding band having a colorful stone, this is the perfect pick for you. The outside of the band is simple frosted silver and the inside, so it is easy to wear. No one would ever know it’s there! (Turquoise Stone by Yael-Ring)

- 66 -

“LESS IS MORE”

We love this stone because it has bling but it’s also sweet and simple! It has a small, smooth band with small stones spaced along it. While most stones are diamonds, one jewel is colorful. Unlike the other modern ring, this ring is much more traditional with a hint of sparkle! (Topaz Stone by Yael-Ring)

“ RO U G H A RO U N D T H E E D G E S ”

This ring is our recommendation for the man who likes to work with his hands. It’s subtle enough not to stick out, but shiny enough to be noticed. The hammered texture will prevent the show of wear and tear, and we think you grooms will love the gold as much as we do! (Gold Hammered by Benchmark-Ring)

“ FA S H I O N A B L E A N D F U N C T I O N A L”

Rose Gold is becoming an even hotter commodity than ever before. This ring is a great choice for the groom because of the texture of the exterior. We love this ring because it is matte, simple, and not too bulky. It’s easy to wear for every occasion and every day life! (Rose Gold Ring by Brilliant Earth-Ring)

“SOMETHING BLUE”

This ring is for the modern groom who likes a little bit of bling. We love the fact that this ring isn’t as simple as most! If you got it, flaunt it because this ring is well deserving of some praise. Choose the jewels of the month of your wedding and you will never have to worry about forgetting your anniversary. (Blue stones by Brilliant Earth-Ring)

SAVE THE DATE

T

he date is set and the venue is booked. Now it is time to start thinking about invitations. Your invitations are very important. It is your first chance to set that stage for your event. Whether you want a simple or elaborate wedding, your invitations give your guests a little sneak peek. Today, most brides are budget savvy. Just because you are on a budget, does not mean you have to settle for unoriginal invitations. There are several ways to save money, and still get exactly what you want. It will just depend on where you want to save. Let me, push the envelope for you… Having a designer to create a unique set can benefit you in so many ways. I know internet ordering can be scary. You never know what you’re going to get, and can’t change all the pre-made options. Do you really want an invitation that anyone can order? Think of it this way, have you ever shown up at a party in the same outfit as someone else? This is your day, make it your own! Let me help you create your own set by adding that personal touch that makes it yours. Whether I am matching a certain color, theme or creating artwork that you will continue to use through life that is up to you. I create all art around you. I take your style, your budget, your personality and put it on paper. I’m willing to take your inspirations, ideas and create only what you need. Every set is different and original just like you. You truly can have invitations that fit your unique personality while not breaking the bank.

OPTIONS

There might be too many options... Everything from paper choice to printing preferences depends on your budget. There are several ways to print invitations without sacrificing the design. I can take the same design and print it several different ways depending on what you want to spend. Letterpress is beautiful but can be very expensive. I can help you decide what is best for your budget.

S I Z E D O E S M AT T E R

Yes… it is true. The size of your envelope will determine your postage. Squares are always more to mail than the regular standard sizes. The larger the size the more postage you have. Always take a completed stuffed invitation, to the post office. You want to make sure you have the correct postage. You don’t want anything returned for not having enough postage.

C U S TO M

Getting custom wedding invitations allows you to create everything or anything to match and carry that look throughout. Whether it is a simple thank you card design, wedding program or signage. Let’s create your wedding day exactly like you imaged…very stylish, while staying on your budget. It is all about the details, even the small inexpensive ones. If we can think it, I can create it...

DESIGN

Having a designer create your set allows you to be in control of all the small details. You can alter your set to fit your budget. Whether you are looking for a one sided or a two sided pieceetting custom invitations, allows you to choose exactly where you want your BANG for your buck to show.

- 69 -

ASK THE EXPERT

ASK THE EXPERT

LABELS

Yes hand written calligraphy has an elegant look to it, but all that elegance doesn’t come cheap. Do custom address labels that match your set. I’m not talking your office supplier labels, I talking about beautiful designed art to add to your envelope. Saves time and save money. You won’t need extra envelopes for mess-ups, while adding a beautiful touch to your envelope. Make a statement before they ever open your invitation.

E X T R A … E X T R A … E XTRAS

Ordering a few extra invitations and envelopes can actually save you money in the long run. It is ALWAYS cheaper to order a few at the time of the original order. If not those few more do add up. Believe me, you will think of someone you didn’t add to the list, and will always need just a few more.

P O S TAG E

All the little details matter when it comes to postage. If it is not a flat or odd shaped you will pay more in postage. The US Post Office calculates shipping based on more than weight alone, so it’s important to consider that before ordering any invitation set by adding in your postage to your budget.

SAVE THE DATE CONTINUED

E N C LO S U R E C A R D S

A way to save again is to have all the details on the invitation. You can put your ceremony and reception information on one card instead of two. Another way to save is a small postcard. A new trend is to do a postcard save the date, much more affordable than traditional cards and envelopes. Postcard RSVPs will save you money; you’ll save on printing costs and postage.

E N V E LO P E S

One envelope VS. two envelopes: Having two for each envelope does double your cost. That is a personal preference, by cutting the second envelope you can save money, not to mention it is more eco-friendly.

A S S E M B LY

Instead of having your invitations come assembled, gather your bridesmaids to help. Having an assembly party, it can be fun, and save money in the end!

S

o there are several ways to save on your wedding budget, it just depends on where you want to save. You have been dreaming of this big day, let me help you make it happen. mark

Photography by: Kacy Mae Photography - 73 -

REAL WEDDING THE BEGINNING

The bride and groom met in high school. Mark would come home and visit from the Marine Corp (where he was for 8 years) they would be around each other due to mutual friends. They became good friends this way and began spending much more time together, which led to dating, and Stephanie followed him to California. They had Austin, their daughter, on May 30, 2013. Mark wanted to make things right in their family and get married. Stephanie really wanted to get married too and Mark would keep telling her that eventually it would happen.

THE DRESS

Mark knew Stephanie wanted a plain dress, nothing too extravagant. Mark coordinated with Danielle, Stephanie’s sister, and the two went and tried on dresses at David’s Bridal. Mark told Danielle to pay close attention to her size and what she liked. Danielle took a picture of Stephanie’s favorite dress and the two went back and found it together.

FAVO R I T E M O M E N T S

“I know it’s cheesy, because its every guys favorite thing, but seeing her walking down the aisle was the best part.” Throughout the whole thing, Mark’s favorite was the look on her face of shock and excitement. He had invited all kinds of friends and family from out of town, so he loved seeing her reaction to that. The rented a bed and breakfast for the weekend, where a lot of the guests stayed, and Mark loved hearing and discussing about the “behindthe-scenes” of the wedding and how it all came together, because Stephanie had no idea about any of it.

FA M I LY T R A D I T I O N S

They did something old (her mom’s wedding ring her dad gave her), something new (he couldn’t remember), something borrowed (something a friend wore at her wedding that she let her wear) and something blue (her garter). They also did a time capsule and wrote letters to each other for their 10-year anniversary. All the guests put a note on for them as well.

- 74 -

B I G G E S T S P L U RG E

The Wedding Planner and décor. “Heather was amazing”. Everyone Mark talked to expected it to be a rinky-dink, thrown together wedding, and he wanted to exceed all expectations and make it look like a million bucks, which he said it did thanks to Heather.

B E S T A DV I C E

“Guys, don’t do it by yourself.” Then Mark went on to say he actually liked planning the wedding. Mark says to just remember that the purpose of a wedding is to be married, so don’t forget why our getting married anddon’t let the wedding come between you in your relationship. “Enjoy the journey.”

THE FUTURE

Mark laughed. He said they really did most everything you do after you get married while they were dating. “Probably graduating college is next and getting careers and moving on. We just want to raise our daughter right, and hopefully we’ll have another one within the next year or so.”

ake some regular tape and place it along each side of the lid. Paint the inside of each lid with the color of your choice. Since the lid is white, you won’t need primer– however, if you choose a different colored box, make sure to purchase primer, so that the color will be accurate. You will need to allow each layer to dry, before coating again. Each lid takes about 3 coats. Once it’s dry, carefully remove your painters tape (if you go too quickly, you may rip or damage the box). Cut out a decorative “Will you…” card, spray with adhesive, and place it on the center of the lid. Be really careful here, because it’s very sticky, and you will likely not be able to re-position the sticker. Each bridesmaid box included:

o

The Question (a unique poem from the bride)

o

The Girls (The names , phone numbers, and emails of each girl)

o

The Dress (with a link to the Pinterest Page of approved dresses, as well as paint chip “swatches”)

Cute list of responsibilities for each girl

DO IT YOURSELF

The box is quite large, so depending on what you want to put inside, you will need to add some extra fluff. I used some decorative white crinkle cut fill/shred. Now add each item that you want to include. In this one we included, candy, personal pictures of the bride with each soon-to-be bridesmaid and a branch pencil wrapped in cellophane. Using your baker’s twine (I doubled the twine to make it more visible), tie each box with a four way bow. We used a Cricut to cut out each girl’s name on glitter paper. Attach each name tag (make sure you know which box belongs to each girl! You wouldn’t want to put the wrong name tag on the incorrect box! I simply tangled the letters of each name in the twine.

and there you have it! - 82 -

EDITOR'S CORNER

a romantic getaway in the clouds O ne of the most common pieces of advice brides often say is to relax and enjoy time with your husband / future husband. It is so important to take time out of your busy life to appreciate your partner. This is especially true during wedding planning. We suggest right after you are engaged run away for a weekend! - 84 -

I did just that! My beau and I ran away to Cloudcroft, New Mexico for a luxurious weekend at The Lodge. If you’re looking for a lovely get away to spend time with your beau and focus on what matters this is a great place to go. The Lodge has over 70 rooms and a few gorgeous suites to choose from! We began our weekend in the Governor’s Suite, an adorable vintage-inspired 2-room suite. We were greeted with delicious fruit, cheeses and champagne. This set the perfect mood for this weekend trip. Our lovely room is also home to their resident ghost, Rebecca! Don’t worry she’s friendly. After settling down in our roomy suite we got ready for dinner. Friday evening, we shared a delicious dinner at the hotel ‘s restaurant and then relaxed at the bar. The staff was so attentive to our every need. The bartenders were friendly and recommended pairings of drinks. Our waiter even helped us by recommending various dishes and made a gorgeous tableside Caesar Salad. (If you want to learn more about The Lodge’s restaurant check out our review of their food on our monthly restaurant blog!) Saturday morning, we spent about two hours walking around their downtown area. I, of course, had to resist and not buy all the jewelry in sight. Our couple’s massage was next. Of course my beau was a little nervous; he had never had a massage before. But, oh my goodness, the massage was utterly amazing, the perfect activity for your romantic weekend at The Lodge. I highly recommend it. Overall, The Lodge is the perfect weekend get away. Given our busy schedules we hardly ever have time to relax! We joke that we need vacations from our vacations. That was not the case after The Lodge weekend. Remember to enjoy your beau and your relationship before you begin planning your most important day! Hope you enjoy your time as much as we did! xoxo Aly
