An oldschool love Charlotte and Sean held a relaxed seaside wedding filled with DIY details and a touch of 1950s flair
♼
ChArlotte & SeAn Charlotte, 34, a drama and dance teacher, and Sean, 33, a graphic designer, married at Forde Abbey, with a reception at the Marine Theatre, Lyme Regis, Dorset
The atmosphere... The best way to describe the style of our day is a vintage street party by the sea. Marine Theatre was the ideal setting for us because although it was slightly run-down, it had plenty of character and charm. The pastel colour scheme was inspired by the beach huts on the seafront in Lyme Regis. The look... My original 1950s tea-dress was from Elizabeth Avey in London. I almost didn’t try it on because it looked a bit sorry for itself on the rail, but once I had accompanied it with a petticoat to give it some volume, it fitted like a glove and I knew it was the one for me. I loved the fact my dress had history and I was able to give it new www.weddingmagazine.co.uk
life. I accessorised with a crystal and pearl headdress with a detachable birdcage veil for the ceremony, and a bouquet of vintage buttons. My bridesmaids wore rockabilly-style halter-neck dresses in pastel hues, and I chose a similar style for my flowergirls in Liberty
“The pastel colour scheme was inspired by the beach huts in Lyme Regis” floral-print fabric. Sean looked dapper in a petrol-blue suit, red tie and brown shoes. The details... We’re both creative people, and the team at Marine Theatre gave us the freedom to do what we wanted with the venue. We sourced much of the reception
décor ourselves, including old books, tobacco tins and lampshades, from flea-markets in our home town and in Brighton. My mum made the table runners and cushions, while our 200-strong flock of origami birds was a team effort, as were the strips of ribbon and lace which decorated the chairs. Finishing touches included crockery, bunting and bright blooms. My favourite moment... The effort we put into our vows for the ceremony made them very emotional. Another highlight was splitting the seam of my dress in a late-night dance-off! My tip for brides-to-be... Get anyone and everyone involved, especially if you have a DIY element to your day, like we did. s
