California dreaming Rylie and Jonathan married in a beautiful barn venue with pretty gold and blue touches

RylIe & Jonathan Rylie Tedeschi, 26, a hair stylist, and Jonathan Karp, 30, a hospital technician, married in a ceremony at the Taft Barn, Atascardero, California

The atmosphere... We wanted a relaxed wedding where our guests would remember the finer details. The Taft Ranch was everything we wanted from a venue; we held the reception in a magnificent barn and the ceremony outside underneath an oak tree. I wanted to keep the décor simple yet romantic, so we had a small chandelier and strips of white material hanging from the branches above us during the ceremony. Our 98

colour scheme was white, gold and navy, with accents of blue glass. The look... My dress was perfect for our choice of venue, I felt like a southern belle when I walked in. My florist had free reign to create the arrangements and bouquets she wanted in white, although my bouquet also contained a few blush-coloured blooms. Jon wore a navy-coloured suit, a blue and white striped shirt and a plaid bow tie. My bridesmaids’ navy dresses were originally maxi dresses which we had altered to fit the girls’ individual body shapes. The details... I started collecting items I liked for our tablecentres, without really being sure of how it was all going to come together. I wanted each one to be different, without looking messy. Each table had a square of striped material with a pile of old books,

and the addition of something blue, gold and glass on each. I collected vases and jars in all shapes and sizes which were filled with one or two white flowers. We wanted to keep guests entertained, so we had games and a photobooth for them to enjoy.

He didn’t have any notes but blew us away with a beautiful speech. My tip for brides-to-be... Hire a wedding coordinator to take care of things. had been feeling pretty smug. Amazingly I’d ticked off most of my wedding to-do list with four weeks still to go. I just had one more thing left to do and it was turning into my toughest task yet: I needed to buy a meaningful present for my future husband. When a friend suggested a boudoir photo shoot I laughed the suggestion off, but the more I thought about it the more it seemed like the ideal gift. As I approach the big 3-0, I’m finally learning to appreciate my body. It’s by no means perfect but, in the same way I wish I’d taken advantage of being a slender teenager by wearing

Still, I soon relaxed so much I found myself delving into Karen’s props and posing with furs and feathers, as well as trying on a sexy teddy outfit and some stockings. Towards the end of the shoot I even started to worry I hadn’t taken full advantage of the opportunity and got a little more daring, showing my bottom! By the end of the day I felt both exhilarated and exhausted. I had done something I never imagined I would do and I knew not only would my fiancé get the shock of his life when he saw the photos, but the whole experience had made me feel proud of my body.

The pool water villas were still being built while we were there, but when we return we’d love to spend at least three or four nights in one of these incredible apartments. Plan a few meals at The Cayanne in Baros. It offers a wide selection of cuisine including a teppanyaki table, fresh sushi and both a wood-ﬁred and tandoori oven. Likewise, request a table above a spotlight at the Lighthouse Restaurant where you’ll be sure to see the ﬁsh darting around at night as you enjoy your dinner. Even if you don’t want to spend your trip getting your PADI licence, it’s certainly worth trying the introductory dive. Even if you’ve never dived before, you’ll be able to enjoy the lagoon and house reef.

rom the outset we wanted rest and relaxation, the chance to try out new activities, and a healthy dose of luxury and romance. With quite a lot on our criteria, it seemed only the Maldives could pose the perfect answer for our honeymoon. Our hotel was an even easier choice, we'd been recommended the resort by friends and were impressed by the online reviews.

ROMANTIC RETREAT Baros is a small, sandy coral island surrounded by a blue lagoon. Our room was a deluxe beach villa with private decking and a stretch of white sand with views of the sea and water villas – a string of private apartments on stilts which stretch out into the sea and look particularly stunning by night. We stayed on the west of

the island, which proved a great location as it captured the late afternoon sun. Our room had the most beautiful bathroom within a tropical courtyard, complete with outside bath and shower. Heaven!

DIVE DEEP Baros is one of the only islands with its own in-house reef and, just a mere 15m from the beach, it allows for brilliant snorkelling opportunities. Guests can take full advantage of the incredible marine life, from turtles to reef sharks. Within seconds of putting on our masks, Jack and I decided this was where we had to learn to dive and get our PADI certificate. So the next day, after a doze in the morning sun and delicious dim sum lunch on our private deck, we enrolled for our first induction dive with the in-house instructor and resident marine biologist. Before we knew it, we were 10ft below the surface amongst the marine life. We had private lessons every other day, which left us with the most fantastic memories. Baros is the first EcoDive Centre in the Maldives, making it one of the best destinations for a beach and dive holiday.

FISHERMAN’S FRIEND Our activities didn't end there because this was our trip of a lifetime, we wanted to experience as much as possible. Jack is a keen ﬁsherman and wanted to take the opportunity to try out deep-sea ﬁshing. We didn't

land any sizeable ﬁsh but we did see pods of dolphins and even caught a few bonito ﬁsh which were later served to us as sashimi. For a small island there was plenty of choice when it came to dining, with three restaurants and two bars. We enjoyed a nightly aperitif at the Lighthouse Lounge, sampling fresh tuna tartar and beef spring rolls, followed by a scrumptious dinner in one of the restaurants. Our most memorable meal had to be our private sand bank dinner. Climbing out of our speedboat taxi, we found ourselves on our own little island sipping champagne as the sun set, followed by an extravagant candlelit dinner of barbecued lobster and steak.

A BLISSFUL BREAK We had everything we could ever have wished for at Baros and have taken away some incredible memories. Jack and I will deﬁnitely be returning, I have a feeling all other holidays will be forever incomparable until we do. W

Our British Airways ﬂight departed from London the day after our wedding and landed on the island of Malé 10 hours later. We'd planned ahead for post-nuptial exhaustion and treated ourselves to business-class seats, which meant we enjoyed a smooth, queue-free checkin and comfy seats; the perfect way to start our break. As we ﬂew over the stunning archipelago of coral islands which make up the Maldives, we took in one of the most breathtaking aerial views we'd ever seen, and started to get really excited. Upon landing we were collected by speedboat and a short 20-minute transfer later we arrived at beautiful Baros.
