EDITORIAL “Llego la primavera, vive cada uno de sus días, da gracias a Dios, respira su aire, bebe cada sorbo, saborea sus frutos y entrégate a su influencia”. Esto se lo he repetido a mi equipo de trabajo día y noche, con pasión y entrega, en la elaboración de esta edición. Cada edición es un reto que tomo con confianza y cariño y gracias a Dios esta edición venimos recargados con la llegada de la primavera y muchos motivos por celebrar. Esta es la época de cambios, de nuevos proyectos y, sobre todo, en la que el espíritu de optimismo inunda el aire y nos fortalece. En el mundo de las quinceañeras, las bodas y la moda, esto se traduce en colores intensos, estampados exóticos y decoraciones muy arriesgadas; formas que coquetean con la extravagancia y anticipa una mirada positiva al futuro. Espero enormemente que esta edición sea de su agrado ya que cada página de este número es el resultado del amor y de la pasión que cada día nos mueve a todo el equipo con el fin de ofrecerles sólo lo mejor. Depending on your venue contract, there might be a few restrictions when it comes to the type of décor you can bring in or alterations you can make to the space. For example, a museum or historic wedding venue probably won’t be okay with altering or damaging their walls in any way. Or maybe minimalism is your style and you’re just not into the idea of a ton of décor, but you still want to personalize the celebration. Or you need to stick to a strict budget To save money, purchase items you can realistically use again or resell. Buying in bulk also helps otherwise, rent whenever possible.

Quinceanera is one of the biggest life events you’ll ever have to prepare for and becoming is an incredibly unique journey for every woman. Your planning list seems endless and making sure that everything is done and perfect ahead of your big day can be daunting and stressful. How you look on the day is also paramount. All eyes are on you so it’s important that you choose what’s right for you and your special day. You have to put so much trust in other people to get your big day look just right, so you’ll have peace of mind that you’ll look perfect when you walk down the aisle.
Get a gorgeous big-day look with these pro tips and tricks.
1. Come Prepared. Time to get started on a Pinterest board — the more inspiration you bring, the
easier it will be for your stylist to interpret what you want. Photos of looks you love are always helpful. “Bring photos of your dress to your makeup appointment as well so your artist can complement your whole look.”
2. Take Notes. Make sure you ask your makeup artist how you should touch up your look during the day,” Write down the products that are used so you can buy the same shades, and make note of how colors are applied so you’ll know how to fix any smudges.

3. Get Travel-Ready. If you’re planning a destination party and not bringing a hair stylist along, it may help to have a trial at home. We can give step-by-step instructions to a stylist at your destination. “Pictures are worth a thousand words, so have your stylist take plenty of detailed shots during the trial. It’s important to show even the tiniest details, like how to hide pins, so the stylist at your destination can recreate the look.” 4. Dress for Success. Take a white T-shirt and cut the neckline to match your wedding gown. It will help you get an idea of how your hair and makeup will work with your dress.
5. Talk Money. At the end of the trial, you should discuss the financial expectations for the big day. Have as much info as you can about how many people will be styled, what style each person wants and where the styling will take place. 6. Go It Alone. Try to not bring any friends who tend to be too opinionated — they could impact your decision. “Going alone will help you relax and have fun.”
7. Snap Pics. Once you’re happy with your hair and makeup, it’s time to go camera-crazy! Make
sure you take a shot from every angle as well as a full-length shot. You may also want to take both outdoor and indoor photos, especially if you’ll be taking pics outside on your big day. The more pictures you take, the easier it will be to create the look again.
8. Watch the Time. Your big-day look should take less time than your trial. We need time to discuss the desired look during the trial, plus the client may ask for adjustments before we find the perfect look. Ask your stylist and makeup artist how long they’ll take on your day and be sure to budget extra time just in case — it’s best to play it safe!

9. Ask Questions. If your stylist has any preparation
tips such as when to shampoo your hair and which products to use, they should tell you at the trial. “Follow their instructions and the big day should be a breeze.”
10. Don’t Forget to Tip. Even if you do several
trials with different stylists and makeup artists before you make your final decisions, it’s important to tip each one after every service (about 15 to 20% is appropriate for both the stylist and their assistant). Be sure to tip them after the big day too.

Event Cocktail Food
If you’ve decided that a formal sit down dinner is a bit too stuffy and you just want your guests to be able to mingle and enjoy themselves, cocktail food could be the perfect alternative to a three course dinner. Here are our top tips on cocktail food. Do the shapes, materials, and colours of the serving platters match your theme? Consider the colours of your cocktail dishes; are they attractive, do they work together, and do they work with your colour scheme? Could you come up with something more appealing that would be better suited for your day? How your cocktail food looks is almost as important as how it tastes, and presentation is the vital to creating a great impression.
Tip 1: Provide A Selection Of Tastes If you have chosen a very spicy flavour to your cocktail food, try to include something a bit more subtle but equally delicious for those guests that can’t tolerate hot food. Make sure you have some vegetarian dishes, and if possible a dairy free and gluten free option. Offering a wide range of dishes is a good way to make sure every guest can pick out something that they like.
Tip 2: Keep it clean Choose foods that are easy to pick up and eat with the fingers, and stick to bite sized portions to avoid a lot of crumbs or dropped food. If you want to serve something with a sauce, offer Chinese spoons or another type of small bowl with a matching fork or spoon. Your guests have almost certainly invested a bit of time and money getting dressed for your wedding, so you don’t want them to be splattered in tomato sauce half way through the cocktail hour.

Tip 3: Go for simplicity Freshly cooked French fries are a great example of simple wedding cocktail food. Present them in shot glasses with a dash of sauce at the base, or in tiny newspaper cones resting in ice cream cone holders. When you start looking at cocktail food menus you will see a variety of foods you may never consider consuming in any other situation. Sea food tends to appear quite prominently along with exotic sauces and spices. Bear in mind, your cocktail food can be simple items that you know all your guests will appreciate.
Tip 5: Combine hot and cold Wedding cocktail food should preferably be a mixture of both hot and cold dishes unless your wedding is in mid-summer when you can just serve cold. Have large platters of cold cocktail food spread out within the reception venue, and then just have hot food prepared and served by waiters during the course of the party. Cold food is easier to serve, but hot food is more satisfying and filling.
Tip 6: Start with your drinks First select your drinks and then use that as the starting point for your food. If you are serving a signature cocktail, you should also be able to get some advice on the types of cocktail food that would be best suited to it from your bartender. The concept of cocktail food is that it accompanies the cocktails or other drinks that your guests are drinking, rather than overpowering them.
Tip 7: Keep within budget Some tasty cocktail food dishes that won’t stretch your budget include shot glasses of hot or chilled soup, miniature hot dogs, or tiny tubs of popcorn. Individual cocktail dishes may not seem too expensive on their own, but it’s easy to get carried away and for the costs to escalate so it ends up being more expensive than a sit down dinner.

It’s hard to keep a handle on everything that you’ll need for your special day. Many will hire planners and on the day coordinators, but everyone is fearful they will forget something. Many have created generic list, but we have put together a list of the top 10 must-have quinceanera rentals, so that you can make sure you’re not forgetting anything important in this area.

1. Table Rentals If you’ll be serving a meal or even just appetizers, you’ve got to have space for guests to place their food and drinks while they listen to toasts and chat. Measuring out your planned space beforehand will allow you decide on the shape of the tables and the arrangement with plenty of time to spare.
2. Seating / Chair Rentals Naturally, guests need places to eat and places to rest once your reception begins. Chair rentals come in so many different styles. Keep in mind that tent rentals are necessary not just for protection from the sun during the day, but for protection from potential rain at night.
4. China / Glassware Rentals Many people think renting china and glassware is expensive and it is not. Don’t rely on plastic silverware at a beautiful party! You can get rentals of beautiful, full-table settings instead for about the same cost.
5. Dance Floor Rentals If your reception will be outdoors, you can’t let your guests’ high heels sink into the grass. A hard dance floor will define your space and make guests comfortable. Additionally, consider that the dance floor is in the center by the bride and groom. Splurge on a mahogany dance floor rental and watch it transform your venue.

No, you don’t have to blush at the sound of this dessert—we promise, this is one aspect of your day where it’s totally acceptable to be in the buff. Instead of frosting the outside of the cake with layer upon layer of fondant or buttercream, many bakers are increasing the filling between tiers and leaving layers exposed for a fresh (and delicious!) look.
When naked cakes rose to popularity in 2013, some brides weren’t into the unfinished look. But as more bakers began to offer these creative confections, the style has been refined and completely elevated to a look that is definitely deserving of a place on your dessert table. Whether you’re just not a fan of sweet frosting or love the rustic vibe of these bare desserts, a naked cake is a great option that allows you to have a more unique cake that still fits the “classic” mold. The best celebrations incorporate personal, fun and unique touches to keep guests smiling and talking about it long after the last dance. 1. Arrange Seating Thoughtfully It sounds obvious, but don’t discount the importance of a solid seating arrangement. Place guests with people they’ll know and get along with. It might seem like a great idea to play matchmaker, or force your guests to sit with strangers to make new friends—but at the end of the day, they’re there for you, and to catch up with their own farflung pals. Put another way, a well-thought-out seating chart leads to great conversation, which leads to a great dance party, which leads to an unforgettable night. So seat your tween cousins with other kids their age and let your college friends sit together.
2. Hand Out Awesome Favors Should be the cherry on top of a fabulous reception. Let your guests know how much you appreciate having them there by offering a take-home treat (think: doughnuts, hot cocoa mix and marshmallows, a bag of your favorite coffee beans or jars of local honey), a cute succulent plant or a pair of sunglasses branded with your initials and party date.

6. Offer an Interactive Food Station (or Two) Great food makes for a great celebration, but offering dishes that everyone can customize to their liking is even better. Interactive food stations, from a mac-and-cheese bar to a sushi-rolling setup, where guests can create their own ideal bites will leave you with happy, well-fed friends ready to have a good time.
7. Rethink Dinner Instead of a typical three-course menu of salad, entrée and dessert, stretch out dinner over four or five smaller courses (but don’t stretch it too much if you’re still hoping to get everyone on the dance floor). Plan small surprises between dishes, like a short toast from your hilarious aunt, a sweet poem from a lifelong friend or a professional performance, like a vocalist or dancer. It’ll give your guests the experience of a fun night out, complete with dinner and a show.
8. Plan Surprise Entertainment Sometimes the best parts of a reception are what guests don’t see coming. Surprise your loved ones with unexpected entertainment during the cocktail hour or reception, like a magician, mariachi band, aerialists or a salsa dancer.
9. Make Sure Your Band Has Great Break Music Everyone’s been to that party before: Just when the dance floor starts heating up, the band takes a break—and the party seems to as well. To make sure this doesn’t happen at your party, ask potential bands how they plan to handle breaks before you hire them. Some bands will rest in shifts and split off into a smaller two- or threepiece band, while others will turn on filler music. If yours is planning on the latter, ask whether you can provide the playlist, or at least check and approve their picks before the party.
10. Find a DJ Who Gets You Okay, this is a little more obvious, but we have to mention it because music is a major reception fun factor, and has a lot to do with how long your guests will stay. The last thing you want to see is your dance floor clear out when the DJ plays obsure songs that are hard to dance to. Talk to your DJ about your do-not-play list upfront.
11. Play Music Everyone Can Dance to Whether you’ve hired a band or a DJ, if you want to keep the dance floor packed, plan a playlist that will please the whole crowd, not just you. You may love obscure indie rock, but now isn’t the time to show off your discerning taste in music. Sure, mix in a few of your favorites, but don’t leave out the past and present hits, otherwise you risk an empty dance floor.

Finding music that inspires
Your Performance
Listening to, buying or downloading a film’s soundtrack can be a great way to expose yourself to previously unheard artists or musicians that you may not have considered before. Naturally this can also help inspire the choreography of a piece; sometimes the film to which the music is linked can work its way into the choreography somehow, other times the music may simply resonate with you completely separately to the film. Listening to the radio, music stations on television, and reading culture sections online or in print publications are also good ways to keep on top of contemporary artists. Exposing yourself to a wide variety of musical genres will ultimately help with the creative process regarding choreography creation.
Themes and Styles Within Music I find that having an eclectic taste in music can help to inspire your choreography in exciting and dynamic ways. While genres of music can be starkly different stylistically, they may share similar themes that will inspire movement. Regardless of the genre, the pieces I enjoy watching the most use unusual musical themes that are, both evocative and immersive.
Considering Your Audience The music you select should ideally provoke thoughtfulness and emotion (of whatever sort is intended!) within the audience, sometimes allowing them to forget that they are in fact part of the audience. I believe the key to finding the right music for your performance is through finding a song that motivates movement. Being open minded to new genres and seeking alternative sources for musical inspiration can help to generate innovative ballet choreography that hopefully will stay with your audience a long time after the performance has ended.
