Weddington United Methodist Church
Connections Spring 2019
INTENTIONALLY GROWING IN FAITH
Our mission is to fulfill our call to be the physical presence of Jesus Christ...
by worshipping God with passion, intentionally growing in faith, proclaiming the gospel with grace, and humbly serving in love.
www.weddingtonchurch.org
Our goal for Adult Ministries at Weddington Church is to create opportunities that will allow you to intentionally grow in your faith. In addition to finding a worship service that is meaningful, we encourage everyone to find a place of connection through a small group experience. As Weddington UMC continues to grow and remain faithful to our call of discipleship, it is important that we build personal connections through Bible Studies, Life Groups, Sunday Classes, or one of the other opportunities that we offer for spiritual growth. This booklet is designed to help you find a group that is a good fit for you. If you would like help in finding ways to intentionally grow in your faith, please contact Patsy Sorrell, Director of Adult Discipleship.

Co-Ed Bible Study Living With A Holy God Time: Location: Learder:
Wednesdays, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Mulit-Purpose Room - Family Life Ctr Ann White
How often do you enjoy soaking up the sun? Imagine yourself in the tabernacle that Moses erected in the wilderness - it’s all dark inside except for the lambstand with its seven lights set so that they are shing forward. Imagine yourself enjoying the light of the lamps. The light represents the presence of God, so by sitting there enjoying that light you are in a sense “basking in the presence of God.”
But how do we get to enter into that situation? How do we get that close to God? Exodus ends with the comment that even Moses wasn’t able to go into that presence. The Psalmist tells us that the one who has clean hands and a pure heart can come in. The book of Leviticus is all about God graciously making a way for the Israelites to come into His presence. It is about a Holy God living in the midst of the people. Leader Ann White, a seasoned Bible translator, shares how her interest in Leviticus was piqued by a question from a fellow Bible translator who didn’t want to title the book “About Levi” in his language. So, he asked for suggestions - the consensus was “Living with a Holy God.” Come learn what Leviticus has to tell us. We will also set those instructions into the larger context of salvation history. God graciously invited the Israelites to enjoy His presence, just as he graciously invites us to live with Him.

This study will draw you closer to God and others as you journey together.
Disciple III: Remember Who You Are Time: Location: Begins: Contact:
Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 p.m. Sanctuary Building, Room 209 Ongoing Dick Davidson
Disciple III is an in-depth study that concentrates on the Old Testament prophets and the letters of Paul, and how they are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart.”

SPECIAL EVENTS Dealing with Everyday Stress and Anxiety Date: Time: Location: Speaker:
Wednesday, May 1 6:30 p.m. Fellowship Hall Jennifer Dean, Vine Counseling
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Everyday life can sometimes feel as if we are on a treadmill going way to fast. Just keeping up seems to be overwhelming. Do you ever wonder if there is a way to live differently? Is there hope for the person who is stretched too thin. Jennifer Dean, from Vine Counseling will be with us to offer guidance on how to better deal with everyday stress and anxiety. Jennifer is a licensed professional Christian counselor who has been counseling for many years. Her insights will be so helpful. Plan on joining us as we seek to live healthier lives emotionally and spiritually.
WOMEN’S 2019 FALL RETREAT Date: November 8-10, 2019 Location: Lake Junaluska Retreat Center Speaker: Elizabeth Poplin Ladies, sneak away with us to Lake Junaluska, NC (just west of Asheville) for a time to refresh your heart, mind and soul and untangle yourself from the demands of everyday life. Lake Junaluska is nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains and offers a relaxing setting with spacious grounds that include a beautiful 200-acre lake, walking trails, kayak, canoe and paddle board rentals, 16 peaceful gardens and nearby shopping and restaurants. Our guest speaker, Elizabeth Poplin, is a passionate women’s ministry leader and co-founder of Ember CLT, a worship gathering that welcomes women throughout the Charlotte area. She will invite us to look below the surface of life and faith issues and leave with hope and a renewed sense of God’s heart. Expect to laugh. Expect to dig deep. Expect to untangle from things that tangle us up, and leave renewed…and transformed. Come away, be still, and discover the freedom and transformation that only Jesus can bring about…trading brokenness for joy, comparison for contentment, and longing for peace. We’ll look to Jesus and ask Him to fill us with all that He is and has for us to live transformed lives.
