In addition to finding a worship service that is meaningful, we encourage everyone to find a place of connection in a Life Group or Bible Study experience. As Weddington UMC continues to grow, it is important that we build personal connections through Bible Study, Life Groups, Sunday morning Classes, or one of the many opportunities that we offer for spiritual growth. Intentionally Growing in Faith Children’s Ministry Carolyn Nelson Minister of Children At Weddington UMC we are dedicated to partnering with families in the cultivation of their child’s spiritual growth. Our mission at The Ark is to “lead kids to KNOW God’s Word, GROW in faith, and SHOW God’s love.” We do this by making the Bible the focus of our curriculum, and adult shepherds as living examples who demonstrate the love of God and life-changing principles to your child. Our goal is that every child who attends feels loved, valued and nurtured in their faith. The Ark • Noah’s Nursery: Birth through age 2 For your convenience, we offer a professionally staffed nursery from 9:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. on Sunday mornings and for special church events.
• Noah’s Kids: Age 3 – 5th Grade We consider Sunday School to be a foundation hour of Bible instruction for children, age 3 through 5th grade. It is a time of exciting Bible stories, Bible exploration, Bible games, and personal application of God’s Word to a child’s life. We hope all children will be active participants in this time of discovery. A loving, caring team guides your child to learn the truths about the Bible at the 9:30, 10:10, and 11:00 Sunday School hours. HISkids (Special Needs & Disability Ministry) is a ministry devoted to children between the ages of 4 and 11 who need a separate learning environment or a special “Buddy” to aid them as they navigate a regular classroom setting. Each week children hear a Bible story, create fun Bible crafts, pray, enjoy snack time, listen to music, and play! Our HISkids program is not currently meeting but has plans to begin at a later date. J.A.M. (Jesus and Me): Wednesdays J.A.M. is a Wednesday night program for kids age 4 through 5th grade. We meet weekly for an exciting time of Bible memory, Bible games, drama, worship, and a whole lot of fun! Each week we take time to build relationships with one another and to pray for one another. Vacation Bible Camp VBC is our single largest yearly event for children. More than 500 children, youth, and adults laugh, learn, and grow in their relationships with each other and with Jesus. Each year brings an action-packed theme that includes praise and worship music, Bible stories, games, snacks, and crafts. Special Programs We are committed to strengthening today’s families through sharing the Word of God creatively through special events, programs, and family workshops. These events can include an Easter Eggstravaganza, Back to School Celebration, Fall Festival, Happy Birthday Jesus Party, Angel Breakfast, Created by God, GLOW (4th & 5th graders), special performances by Christian entertainers, and more!
Youth Ministry Anna Plyler High School Youth Minister
Children and Youth Andrew Haylett Middle School Youth Minister
Sunday Evening Youth Program All youth are invited to join us on Sunday evenings! Middle School meets from 4:30-6:15 p.m. and High School 5:30-7:15 p.m. There are separate programs for Jr. and Sr. High, covering a wide range of topics and games. Everyone joins together for a time of worship in the Youth Center, led by our Youth Worship Team. Please bring $5.00 for dinner. Jr. and Sr. High Bible Study Bible Study meets Wednesdays from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Youth Center. Doors are open from 6:30-8:30 p.m. At Bible Study, students and leaders read through a book of the Bible over several weeks, breaking it down by chapter. Life Groups Life Groups are small groups for youth. Each group meets at various times and places throughout the week. Some read through books and devotionals together, while others focus on community service and other ways to serve within our church. Life groups provide our youth with an opportunity to be in a discipleship group with a small number of youth their own age and gender. Sunday Morning Classes Sunday Classes for youth are offered for both Middle School and High School each Sunday. Middle and High School meets Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in Room 204 in the Youth Center. Middle and High School Youth also meet Sundays at 11:00 a.m. in the Youth Center for donuts, fellowship, and a short devotion. Retreats and Missions In addition to weekly activities, the youth participate in retreats and mission trips throughout the year. All retreats are discipleship based. Youth have the opportunity to attend at least one mission trip during the summer and two retreats throughout the year. Our church helps to offset the cost for these trips, and the participant cost to attend all of them is less than $750 annually. Confirmation Confirmation is a time of intentional preparation that gives youth the opportunity to reflect on the most basic elements of our faith. It is a special time to begin a journey of faith that nurtures and challenges youth to think about the nature of God, the life of Christ, and learn about United Methodist beliefs. The classes are offered annually starting in January to youth, 6th grade and above. For more information, visit our website. For more information, please check out the Youth web page at www.weddingtonchurch.org/youth or contact Anna or Andrew.

Car rider drop-off and pick-up lines are available to bring children into and out of our building. WCP offers 3 weeks of Summer Camp for rising 2’s-rising Kindergarten children during the summer months. We believe each child is a unique creation of God, deserving of respect and love. We provide an environment that allows children to discover the lessons Jesus taught through prayer, instruction, and play each day. Humbly Serving in Love Local & Foreign Missions Rev. Rocio Ávila-Ramírez Missions Pastor Local Missions Monroe Campus In the fall of 2014, we were delegated a church property in a culturally diverse residential area of Monroe. This mission campus gives us the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ as we seek to be in relationship with the people in the community. Since then, God has been doing wonderful blessings, allowing us the opportunity to be witnesses of His glory. We began with Homework Help and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. From that, we have developed relationships with the families surrounding the Monroe Campus. Now, we have a variety of hands-on mission opportunities, from building wheelchair ramps to distributing food during Christmas. Furthermore, it is in walking distance to Turning Point and very close to other agencies such as Union County Shelter and Union County Crisis Assistance. We have been able to go from service to evangelism and discipleship. In 2018, we began a Sunday evening bilingual worship service. Costa Rica Building Teams For over 20 years, Weddington UMC has been partnering with churches in Costa Rica to help them build facilities for worship, housing, classrooms, etc. Each year brings new adventures with the opportunity to build new relationships and rekindle old ones. The team travels to Costa Rica during the first two months of each year, and all skill levels are welcome. Kenya Missions Weddington UMC helped start and continues to support The Home of the Good Shepherd, an orphanage that houses 76 children in Nyharuru. We also partner with God’s Grace for all Nations (GGFAN), a ministry that provides training for Pastors who go to unreached tribes and communities. Romania Weddington UMC supports one of three Methodist churches in Romania. In late 2014, Pastor Cristian Istrate and his wife Ligia started meeting with a small Bible study. As the attendance grew, soon Cristian and Ligia were asked by the group to start meeting Sundays as a church, and in November 2014 were officially established as a United Methodist Church. Their work is not focused only inside but also outside the church. They work with children from a local orphanage and teenagers in the area teaching them about the Bible.
