Intentionally Growing in Faith
Personal discipleship is a life-long journey and we are called to encourage one another to be intentional about growing in our relationship with God. At Weddington Church, we value discipleship and the importance of relationships and authentic community. We believe that Christian discipleship happens best when we are connected with others through small group opportunities where we can encourage, care, and support one another, and grow in faith. We also recognize that everyone has their own starting point and pace, and that there are different seasons in life and faith. For that reason, you will find a variety of Adult Discipleship groups and opportunities to choose from this fall.
Connections - Fall 2019 Our new Fall 2019 Adult Ministry guide, Connections, is designed to help you learn about the many ways you can grow, connect, and get involved. Printed copies are available at the church or you can view Connections online at www.weddingtonchurch.org/connections. If you would like some guidance in finding a group or study that will be a good fit for you, please reach out to Patsy Sorrell, Director of Adult Discipleship.

Missions Local Missions . Rev. Rocío Ávila-Ramírez The Great Week of Service 2019 Great Week of Service 2019 was blessed in abundance. We thank God and all of you for serving through your prayers, donations, and service. Jesus multiplied! We sent twice as many boxes of supplies and treats for the troops as we did last year. We sent loads of canned and dry food to Union County Crisis Assistance and restocked their pantry. We made over a 1,000 sandwiches for Urban Ministry and the Union County Shelter. Finally we passed out hundreds of pairs of shoes, socks, and backpacks filled with school supplies at Benton Heights Elementary School. As a church, we surpassed our goal. Now we look forward to a year of ministry with these agencies. Please pray and consider volunteering with Homework Help, ESL (English as a Second Language), Operation Sandwich, Room In the Inn, or meals for Union County Shelter. For more information email Leah Primm, Local Missions Assisitant or Rev. Rocío at the church office.

Pastoral Care Pastoral Care Ministry . Rev. Ed Briggs Fall GriefShare and DivorceCare The loss of a loved one through death or divorce can be devastating as the pain of grief takes over. We are blessed to have support groups for people trying to cope with this loss. Fall GriefShare will begin on Wednesday, September 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hemby House Room 1. Fall DivorceCare will begin on Wednesday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 20, downstairs in the Sanctuary building. These ministries provide compassionate support to people who have lost a loved one to either death or separation/divorce. Please make note of these dates either for yourself or for someone else you know who would benefit from being involved in one of these groups. For more information, please contact Sandra McKee at the church office.
Whole Hearted Ministries Seminar Our Whole Hearted Ministries will be presenting a seminar on the topic of “Erasing the Shame of Sexual Abuse" on Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Light appetizers will be served. Niki Krauss, author of Little Girl Mended, a memoir, has been instrumental in the formation of Weddington UMC's Whole Hearted Ministry. By sharing her personal story of childhood sexual trauma, Niki will help to shed light on a dark subject. Niki’s story is one of transformation and healing through the love of the Savior. Please join us and invite a friend. Statiistics show that one in four females, and one in eight males are affected by sexual trauma. The Lord has opened a huge, new mission field. We must learn how to love and support those with wounded souls. Please call the church office and RSVP to Sandra McKee and learn more on the church website.
Caring Hearts Ministry Our Caring Hearts ministry is looking for senior adults who are living at home or in a senior living facility who would benefit from having a Caring Heart visitor come by at least once a month to offer love and support. This person does not have to be a member of the church to be assigned a Caring Heart visitor. Please contact Sandra McKee at the church office if you know of someone who is interested in having a Caring Heart visitor for his or her loved one.
