MUNZIL TEENU and

Munzil Chhachhi and Teenu Bassi first connected on social media, though the verdict is still out on who liked whose photo first! Just days later, the pair met in person when Munzil invited Teenu to a family barbecue and it was an instant love connection. Three years later, while they were both studying abroad (Munzil completing a Master’s at Cambridge, Teenu at medical school in Ireland) they met up for a weekend together in London, England. On a gloomy, rainy day Teenu suggested a walk in the park, leaving Munzil dragging her feet through the city until they reached their destination: tourist-flooded Buckingham Palace. The perfect moment happened when the rain stopped, the tourists cleared, the sun shined, and Teenu got down on one knee to propose next to Canada Gate — an ode to their families and home.

The WEDDING DAY

Among the couples whose weddings were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Munzil and Teenu were (finally!) married four years into their engagement on June 16, 2022. COUNTDOWN EVENTS provided event planning and design services for all celebrations, including a whimsical bridal shower for Munzil, a backyard Sangeet, the wedding ceremony at VANDUSEN BOTANICAL GARDENS, and the wedding reception at the JW MARRIOTT PARQ VANCOUVER.

The BRIDAL SHOWER

Munzil’s favorite color is lavender, so COUNTDOWN EVENTS designed the bridal shower in her favourite colour with blue and blush accents. Whimsical florals were provided by THE FLOWER FACTORY, including individual bouquets for every guest. Pink sweets, light bites, pastel-hued cocktails and cakes topped with sparklers were served.

The CEREMONY

A tented ceremony and catered cocktail reception were held on VANDUSEN BOTANICAL GARDENS ’ Great Lawn. Modern white floral arrangements with pale lavender and Pampas grass accents enhanced the soft, romantic feel of the garden tent and natural scenery. Crystal chandeliers installed above the aisle brought the glam factor.

Munzil wore several looks throughout the wedding and reception, including designs by Anita Dongre, Rimple & Harpreet, Mrinalini Chandra and Manish Malhotra. Teenu wore Rohit Bal for the wedding ceremony and a suit by Zegna for the reception.

ELAINEand TONG

Elaine and Tong’s paths crossed in September 2016, thanks to mutual friends who introduced them at a gala dinner. The spark between them blossomed quickly, leading to a beautiful moment a year later when Tong orchestrated a surprise proposal for Elaine at Bisha Hotel Toronto.

The evening was nothing short of magical with a live band serenading them, exquisite flowers adorning the space, and a photographer discreetly capturing the moment Elaine said “yes” amid smiles and tears of joy.

The engagement ring, aptly dubbed “the one” by Harry Winston, had its own journey before adorning Elaine’s finger. Tong, while in Toronto, placed an online order for the ring from New York. With a blend of anticipation and secrecy, he arranged for the ring to be shipped to a friend’s residence, ensuring its safe arrival for the very day he planned to propose.

The WEDDING

Elaine and Tong were married on September 10, 2022 at Toronto’s tony GRANITE CLUB. The bride turned to her long time friends at FLEUR WEDDINGS AND EVENTS to plan and design her wedding, with Erin Zhang as the lead event planner and Flora Peng as the wedding’s overall designer and creative director.

Floral design was provided by the team at INFINITUDE DESIGN under Flora’s leadership as the owner of both companies.

Elaine wore a gown by Julie Vino for the ceremony, while Tong wore a tuxedo by Giorgio Armani from Harry Rosen.

As the ceremony began, dry ice created a mystical smoke effect.

The CEREMONY

Flora Peng from FLEUR WEDDINGS AND EVENTS expertly curated a luxurious and elegant event with unique design elements guided by the theme of “Timeless Elegance with a Twist. . .” The event featured a ceremony and reception framed by two large semicircular structures (12ft tall, 20ft wide) with a modern gold and copper pattern, mirrored on the white floor for a 3D effect.

The most abstract and unique element of the event’s design came from the swirling floral towers flanking the stage. “They were a touch of the avant-garde, juxtaposing the classic roses and lilies with a daring structural element that stood tall and grand against the towering white walls of the club,” shares event planner Erin Zhang.

Cocktail HOUR

The couple loves music, so a Jazz trio played during cocktail hour. To further entertain guests, experiences included an interactive corsage and boutonniere bar. A painter from China drew each family’s portrait and placed it onto a glass wall to use as the seating plan. “We had also prepared a photo frame to put the painting in to let guests take home as their wedding favors,” shares event planner Erin Zhang. “We also didn’t want the couple to return home with empty hands! So we printed another set, put them on guest tables, and asked guests to leave their best wishes on their painting. This made it an unforgettable and very special gift for the couple.”

The RECEPTION

During dinner, several of the couple’s friends performed, including a violin and piano performance. The MC also led several fun games and a Same Day Edit shown by the videography team was enjoyed by all.

The music-loving couple also hired a four-piece band for their afterparty. “We set up the band behind the draping on the big stage, and when the drapes started to open slowly and the band dropped the first beat, everyone was surprised and started dancing!” shares event planner Erin Zhang. “It was a very memorable moment for everyone!”

GINA SAIFand

Gina first met Saif through mutual friends, and their relationship remained platonic for years. “We were always best friends, but if you’ve ever watched The Office, you’ll know that as soon as Pam figured out Jim was the one for her (and there at arm’s length all along), every next step was easy,” shares Gina. Two and a half years into dating, Saif and Gina visited Vancouver with friends. In Stanley Park, under the guise of taking photos, Saif surprised Gina with a proposal. He had hired photographers posing as “Instagrammers” to capture the moment. After he proposed, their friends emerged from hiding to join the celebration, and Gina’s family joined via FaceTime.

The WEDDING DAY

Gina and Saif’s whimsical "Tuscan Dream" of a wedding was held on September 16, 2022, with a reception at THE ARLINGTON ESTATE in Vaughan, Ontario. Mother of the bride Lemis Hassani of ROYAL ORCHID FLORIST provided event planning, design, floral, and decor services for the event.

“I have been in the wedding industry for over 30 years and I knew that when it was time for my daughter to get married, it had to be the most special design Royal Orchid Florist has ever created,” shares Lemis.

“...I remain unable to put into words what it meant to design my daughter’s wedding…”

The wedding design was not only spectacular, but it also told a story.

“The story of a mother’s love for her daughter, poured out through petals,” tells Gina.

The CEREMONY

Gina and Saif were married at ST. EUGENE DE MAZENOD PARISH in Brampton, Ontario.

At the end of the ceremony, the couple walked out of the church accompanied by an instrumental rendition of Chris Brown’s “Forever” performed by WELLINGTON MUSIC à la Pam and Jim — both Gina and Saif are huge fans of television show, The Office and wanted to recreate the sitcom couple’s wedding ceremony scene for their own nuptials.

Gina wore a Galia Lahav wedding dress from White Toronto, while Saif wore a classic suit lined in a fabric printed with each variation of the Toronto Raptors logo.

Gina’s best friend of 26 years acted as her maid of honor. “I knew long ago she would be my maid of honor if I ever got married,” shares Gina. The bridal party wore sage green gowns, the maid of honor’s distinguished by silvery floral embellishments. Saif’s best friend and brother acted as his best man.

“Gina met Saif fourteen years before she married him, not knowing that her best friend would soon become her husband. Once she realized the person she was looking for had been there along, every next step was easy. For Gina, it was always Saif. To this day, I remain speechless at how their love story unfolded.”

A Mother’s LOVE

The abundant Tuscan-inspired floral design that the bride’s mother, Lemis Hassani of ROYAL ORCHID FLORIST lovingly designed for her daughter and son-in-law included over 6000 roses, 250 Holland-imported seven-bloom orchids, rare peonies imported from Holland in the off-season, and thousands of individual pieces of greenery, including Italian ruscus, silver dollar, magnolia, and bay leaves (to name a few!)

The RECEPTION

The newlyweds made their grand entrance to the reception with a Zaffe, hitting the checkered floor beneath an impressive suspended floral installation that hung from the ceiling featuring cascading blooms, greenery, fairy lights, and sparklers mounted within. The fireworks streamed downwards onto the dance floor during the first dance.

The bride’s best friend MC’d the wedding reception, and later on in the evening, the couple’s friends collected on the dance floor with a flash mob to kick off the dancing. Catering included a Saganaki and a Speducci Station, a Gelato bar, and freshly fired woodoven pizza.

ALESSANDRA and STEPHEN

Alessandra Ciraco first caught the eye of Stephen DiGirolamo in their ninth grade geography class back in 2009. The pair became fast friends, and began dating the next year. When it came time to propose, Stephen set the stage at the couple’s new house. While out to brunch with Alessandra, he had the entryway decorated with a path of white roses and candles leading to a room where photos of their 10 years together were suspended midair. When the pair returned home, Stephen got down on one knee and proposed amongst the photographs. “I was incredibly emotional from the second I walked in the front door and of course I said yes!” shares Alessandra.

The WEDDING

Alessandra and Stephen were married on May 27, 2023. Michelle Cundari from SINCERELY YOURS EVENTS — sister to the groom! — lovingly provided event planning and design services for the wedding, working alongside RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN who provided floral design. The couple had travelled to Lake Como, Italy during the planning process for their wedding, and fell in love with the architecture at VILLA CARLOTTA. This became the design inspiration for the cocktail hour and reception, both held at COPPER CREEK GOLF CLUB.

Alessandra wore the Seraphine wedding dress by ÉLYSÉE and enhanced the drama of the elegant silhouette with puffed sleeves by Badgley Mischka.

Stephen worked with King & Bay to design his custom wedding look— a midnight blue suit with Swarovski crystal shirt buttons and initials on one sleeve.

Cocktail HOUR

With the groom’s sister Michelle Cundari of SINCERELY YOURS EVENTS as the event planner and designer of the wedding, the phrase “love is in the details,” perfectly sums up the numerous design elements that were showcased throughout the reception starting with the cocktail hour.

A 16-foot feature seating wall created in collaboration between SINCERELY YOURS EVENTS, RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN, DECOR AND FIESTA, and SO PRETTY IN PRINT created a beautiful first impression as guests arrived. The fun kicked off with live entertainment, a fresh oyster bar, a sushi station and unique custom cocktails.

Alessandra and Stephen’s wedding party was made up of family and close friends — the maid of honour is a childhood friend of the bride’s (they met in the first grade!) and the best man has known the couple for over ten years.

As a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Stephen’s groomsmen gifted him a set of team logo cufflinks for the occasion.

The RECEPTION

Held at COPPER CREEK GOLF CLUB in Kleinburg, Ontario, the main inspiration for the reception design came from Villa Carlotta in Lake Como, “a place filled with layers, textures, and hues of blue and sage,” describes Michelle Cundari.

“It was one of my personal favourites because of the level of detail that went into each part of the day.”

Pretty

Guests were seated at gallery tables decorated with a variety of garden-style floral arrangements. The tables were set with brass and pale blue place settings accented with delicate floral motifs.

Guests took a piece of the wedding home with them in the form of linen tea towel sets to match the print of the napkins used at the event.

Catering for the reception was provided by Copper Creek Golf Club with late-night stations including goodies from Craig’s Cookies, McDonald’s, and Tiny Tom Donuts.

“One of the traditions that Stephen and I have had since we started dating is to go to the CNE each summer, and every year since we started dating we would end our night with a bag of Tiny Tom Donuts,” shares Alessandra.

The ceilings of Lake Como’s Villa Carlotta provided inspiration for the earl grey-flavoured peach and honey cream wedding cake, topped with two Rembrandt tulips — the bride’s favourite tulip!

SAMIN and JOSEPH

Samin Saniei met Joseph Martinez at a club while on vacation in New York City; they chatted up the night, and began a long-distance relationship soon afterwards. Two years later, Joseph moved to Toronto to be with Samin, and surprised her by proposing in her parents’ backyard. The romantic set-up included a live violinist, an oversized ring structure, rose petals, the question “Will you marry me?” cast over the pool, and friends and family waiting nearby to celebrate with an impromptu engagement party.

The WEDDING

Samin and Joseph’s wedding took place on September 10, 2022, at the AGA KHAN MUSEUM in Toronto, Ontario. Full-service event planning and design was provided by SINCERELY YOURS EVENTS, with event planning and coordination supported by GRACE ARHIN EVENTS.

Samin wore a “two-in-one” glittering Pnina Tornai wedding gown. After the first dance, Samin removed the gown’s overskirt to reveal a sleek second look.

The traditional Persian wedding ceremony was held outdoors at the Aga Khan museum’s gardens featuring a beautiful Sofreh.

The CEREMONY

The outdoor wedding ceremony had a “fresh heavenly feel” and featured a Sofreh by LA VIOLETTA with flowers by HENNA FLORIST.

Samin’s brother officiated the ceremony, guiding lighthearted traditional aspects like the grinding of sugar cones by happily married women, as well as asking the bride three times if she “agreed” to marry the groom.

Cocktail HOUR

Cocktail hour took place at sunset, which reflected the beautiful evening light around the reflective ponds of the venue. During this time, guests enjoyed passed appetizers and an oyster bar while the bride and groom enjoyed a portrait session with PURPLE TREE PHOTOGRAPHY.

The RECEPTION

In contrast with the light and airy ceremony, the wedding reception, held in two tents, was designed with an enchanted garden theme using lush greenery and black decor. HENNA FLORIST provided florals for the wedding. Both tents were from PREMIER EVENT TENT RENTALS.

All day-of stationery was designed by So Pretty in Print, including the flowershaped menu with a gold mirrored centre and white and gold petals. The table numbers were created with a tactile velvet.

The wedding reception included all of the traditional elements such as the father-daughter dance and bouquet toss, while also showcasing experiential entertainment in the form of ballet dancers and an interactive cigar bar.

A DJ and live band played a mix of Persian music with songs requested by the groom.

In the summer of 2014, Daniel stepped into the pizzeria where Genevieve had been working since high school. “I instantly had a crush on him,” she recalls. She waited on his table that day, and he began visiting more frequently. They found common ground and she learned he lived close by. Daniel asked Genevieve on a date, and they’ve been together ever since.

The WEDDING DAY

Having rescheduled their wedding due to Covid-19, Genevieve and Daniel were finally married at their local church, SAINT CLAIRE OF ASSISI in Woodbridge, Ontario on July 9, 2022. Despite a year-long postponement, event planner Fidan Ismayilova of DESIGNED

DREAM EVENTS explains, “Their vision from day one hasn’t changed. They saw their wedding as a wedding filled with happy colours and lots of flowers, having an overhead floral canopy over their sweetheart table and to fill the room with the nice outdoor feel and a smell of summer!” The ceremony and luncheon were followed by a black-tie cocktail hour and reception à la 1950s glamour at THE ARLINGTON ESTATE, which was transformed into a botanical garden dream by floral and event designers COCO BY COVERS COUTURE for the occasion.

Genevieve shared a deep bond with her late grandfather, who had been battling cancer since 2019. He held a special place in both Genevieve and Daniel’s hearts, as Daniel had spent years working at her grandfather’s brokerage. When it was time for Daniel to pop the question, he recognized the significance of involving Genevieve’s grandparents in this pivotal moment.

So, on a sunny afternoon during a visit to her grandparents’ backyard, Daniel dropped to one knee and asked for Genevieve’s hand in marriage.

In September 2020, at the couple’s engagement party, Genevieve’s grandfather was present, and they shared a touching “first dance” together.

The CEREMONY

Genevieve and Daniel exchanged vows at their church in a ceremony officiated by Rev. Msgr. John Borean who has known Genevieve’s family since her grandfather first attended church as a new immigrant in Toronto.

“The owner, Andrea, is one of the most kind-hearted women I have ever come across — I will never forget what she did for my family,” remembers Genevieve.

“We were in shock when we saw the room. Tina and John from COCO by Covers Couture had shown us samples and explained how the room would look — but nothing could prepare us for reality.”

Genevieve wore a wedding gown by Monique Lhuillier purchased at White Toronto, where a private viewing of Genevieve wearing the ball gown was arranged so that her grandfather could see her in her wedding dress before he passed.

The couple’s sweetheart table sat on an elevated platform beneath a canopy of flowers and crystal chandeliers.

“It looked like a concert, and people pulled out their phone lights and lighters to cheer him on,” shares the bride. The non-stop entertainment continued outdoors with a fireworks display before the dessert table opened.

“Most people told us we wouldn’t enjoy our wedding…,” recalls Genevieve, “...but it was quite the opposite. We had a blast.”

Genevieve and Daniel entered their reception accompanied by Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic,” performed by a live band. Genevieve’s Dad also wowed guests with a singing performance.

ROBYN and FRANCESCO

Robyn and Francesco first crossed paths while working at Pasqualino, a restaurant owned by Francesco’s family in Milton, ON. As coworkers, the pair developed a friendship and eventually fell in love. Four years later, with a ring already purchased and burning a hole in his pocket, Francesco spent months discussing how he would pop the question with friends and family. Grand gestures aside, he ended up surprising Robyn one evening as she stood in front of the mirror, getting ready to go for dinner. He proposed on the spot, making it a completely unexpected and authentic moment.

The WEDDING DAY

Robyn and Francesco were married on April 29, 2023, at ST. BENEDICT PARISH in Milton, Ontario, followed by a reception at THE ARLINGTON ESTATE in Vaughan with floral and event design by WILD THEORY FLORAL AND EVENT DESIGN.

Event planning was provided by Leanne Menchella of LM EVENTS in collaboration with Nadia Cassano of EVENT BOUTIQUE.

As guests arrived at the ceremony, a musician played classics on the accordion. During the sermon, the priest mentioned how happy everyone was and how the room was filled with positive, uplifting energy. This energy carried on through the entire day. “Everyone is still talking about what a great time they had,” says Robyn.

Robyn wore a gown by Pnina Tornai paired with a tiara by Eden Luxe. Francesco wore a dark green suit from ESCO Clothiers and a Hermes tie.

“We loved walking into the ballroom for the first time and seeing it transformed into a paradise.”

The “Romantic Garden” floral and event design was inspired by the couple’s vision of bringing the outdoors, in and the atmosphere of European piazzas. With that in mind, WILD THEORY FLORAL AND EVENT DESIGN brought the vibe using towering green centrepieces of salal, Italian ruscus, and leather leaf sprinkled with soft blushcolored roses and romantic twinkle lights.

Being a foodie family meant that pre-wedding parties were catered with a vast amount of delicious specialty Italian meats, cheeses, prepared appetizers, and beautiful pastries from PASQUALINO

RESTAURANT, LA ROSE BAKERY, and TRUSCOTT BAKERY with wine provided by LA CANTINA IMPORTS . Even the limo buses that shuttled the wedding guests were stocked with Prosecco!

At the reception, a decadent dinner menu was served along with latenight wood oven pizza, wedding cake and a large sweets table featuring croquembouche, macaroons, mini cheesecakes, Sfogliatella, lemon balls, mini tiramisu, and much more.

After dinner, the accordionist and a guitar player gave a 45-minute performance, getting everyone out of their seats and dancing to classic tarantella music. The family joined in with the band, playing the tambourine and maracas.

Fittingly, for a couple that fell in love at a restaurant, their honeymoon was entirely food-motivated. They flew to Bologna, rented a car, and traveled around the Emilia Romagna region of Italy, trying all the local cuisines and specialties before finishing their trip in Modena at Massimo Bottura’s world-famous restaurant, OSTERIA FRANCESCANA.
