The all-white ceremony took place in the first of several tents provided by SPECIAL EVENT RENTALS. In addition to producing his own wedding, Gregory did the floral design for the entire event, though FORGET ME NOT FLOWERS assisted with event design and various floral design rentals such as pedestals and urns.
The grooms wore custom Coppley formalwear from CHARLES & HUNT. Greg wore colourful cufflinks gifted to him by friend and mentor Anna McCusker.
The inspiration for the stationery design was an Hermès scarf, which PAPER & POSTE interpreted into an invitation suite with the desired playful yet traditional feel.
About the Couple
G
regory first connected online with Sean in 2013. After chatting virtually for a couple of weeks, the two decided to rendezvous for a coffee to meet in person. Unfortunately, the coffee shop ended up being closed, but since it was a warm summer evening, they took a walk together. On their walk, they bonded over dreams, goals, family history, and values — it was an immediate connection, and they made their relationship official one month later. “We have enjoyed each other’s company ever since and have seen a lot of those dreams and goals we first chatted about come to life,” shares Gregory. Seven years later, the couple took a weekend trip to ELORA MILL HOTEL & SPA to celebrate their anniversary. In advance, Gregory pre-arranged with the staff to make the evening “extra-special.” After an incredible dinner, the couple took an unfinished bottle of wine to the terrace overlooking the rapids, where the staff had placed chairs and blankets for their enjoyment. While drinking their wine and talking about their life together, Gregory asked Sean for a photo op to capture the view and commemorate their anniversary. At this moment, he asked Sean to spend the rest of his life with him and Sean said, “Yes!” The couple was married on October 16, 2021, at a private estate in Burlington, Ontario. As the president of SPECIAL EVENT RENTALS, Gregory saw the unique opportunity to produce his own wedding alongside his mentor, Anna McCusker of ANNA MCCUSKER & COMPANY. He also credits Melissa Stark and Carly Stevens with helping to ensure no detail was overlooked leading up to the day and providing same-day event coordination when it finally came time to say "I do."
“We were married in a clear roof tent, the sun was peeking out from the overcast sky, and just as we were saying our vows and “I Do’s” it began to rain a little creating such a special intimate ceremony with our guests,” remembers Gregory. Folk country band, THE REDHILL VALLEYS, (the grooms’ favourite band!) were on hand to perform during the ceremony and cocktail hour. After the ceremony, guests were led to the cocktail lounge through a second tent set along the forest edge.

The couple enjoyed how their white wedding ceremony turned into a colourful occasion with plenty of surprises for guests as they moved from tent to tent. “It kept guests actively looking for ‘What’s next?’” notes Gregory.
The cocktail space was accented with plush colourful pillows. Plants intermixed with flowers made it feel like a real garden.
Broad Strokes The wedding design was inspired by the look and feel of an Hermès scarf, specifically how the iconic patterns are known for colour and playful details yet hold a sense of tradition and formality. The event decor featured bold fabrics and vibrant flowers to achieve the desired vibe. Additional design ideas came from the iconic Wynn Hotel Las Vegas and the movie classic, The Wizard of Oz. Catering for the elaborate cocktail hour featured an assortment of stations featuring oysters, sushi, lobster bisque, and charcuterie, each with its own special plating. Naturally, Gregory’s company SPECIAL EVENT RENTALS provided all of the event tents, custom draping, furniture rentals, tableware, and linens for the wedding day. They even debuted a new line of tabletop rentals for the occasion! “The result was a smashing, vibrant party like you have never seen,” says Gregory. “It was the perfect “coming out party” as the pandemic restrictions opened up.” THE INNSVILLE catered the wedding.

Guests received personal bottles of HERMÈS perfume packaged in the iconic orange miniature gift bags. Dessert boxes featuring salted caramel cookie sandwiches and butter caramel popcorn were also provided as take home treats.

Surprise Reveal A fun surprise kicked off the dinner reception as the draped wall behind the bar was opened to reveal a secret reception space. The area was draped with deep royal blue fabric to create a sense of drama and intimacy. Textiles, patterns, colours, and starburst-shaped lighting brought a sense of playfulness to the tent’s decor. Floral design, draping, furniture rentals, tableware, and linens were all provided by SPECIAL EVENT RENTALS.

About the Couple
M
ursal and Luis met at a mutual friend’s party, where Luis spent the entire evening talking to Mursal. “He was so sweet and charming!” she recalls. She gave him her phone number, and the two have spoken every day since! After graduating from university, the couple toured Italy together. Luis had planned to propose while the two took a gondola ride in Venice, but fearing nausea Mursal thought better of setting out on the water. Instead, the proposal took place in Florence in the center of the Piazza Della Repubblica. While a nearby couple took Mursal and Luis’ photo, Luis got down on one knee and onlookers clapped in celebration! PETALS & PEARLS planned and designed the couple’s intimate wedding held on August 21, 2021, at a private mansion in Toronto, Ontario. The event was planned in less than two months. “Luis and I waited for a year for the pandemic to pass, but it didn’t and we wanted to start our lives together,” shares Mursal. “We decided to go out on a whim and just plan something small and intimate. However, I love decor, design and going all out!” Eventually, the wedding came together beautifully and was designed around a “European manor” theme as a nod to Mursal and Luis’ engagement in Italy.

The head table featured an asymmetrical floral arrangement by COCO BY COVERS COUTURE which ended up being Mursal’s favourite design aspect of the entire wedding day. “I wanted something unique and luxurious,” she shares. “The florist really took my inspiration and made it come to life.”

The reception was originally planned to take place in the mansion’s backyard in order to adhere to Ontario’s Covid-19 event restrictions. However, just two weeks prior to the wedding, indoor weddings were allowed by the province so the entire decor and design were changed to better suit the indoor aesthetic of the mansion. “It was absolutely beautiful,” recalls Mursal.

The couple exchanged their vows underneath an oversized floral arch overlooking the water. The plein-air woodland setting was also enhanced with a dramatic thirty-foot-long aisle. Natalie arrived in style to the ceremony with her father in a vintage family car. Vintage was a theme woven throughout the day in subtle ways including the bride's vintage OSCAR DE LA RENTA wedding gown.

Plein Air Affair The reception was held in an open air tent from PINNACLE EVENT RENTALS. The beautiful floral and decor inside the tent felt like a natural extension of the outdoor setting. wedding during the Pandemic, Stacey and Jordan made adjustments to their original wedding plans to suit the times. They switched venues in order to have an all-outdoor celebration. The AGA KHAN MUSEUM was chosen for it’s ample outdoor spaces
which include a picturesque reflecting pool.
“My favourite moment of the wedding day was the reveal with Jordan and I. We slept apart the night before so I hadn’t seen him since the previous morning. The build up was mixed with excitement and nerves and I was just so ready to finally see him! I had bought my dress two years prior so I had been patiently waiting for him to see me in it! I can still remember his face when he turned around,” recalls Stacey.

A 100-foot-long white aisle runner allowed the wedding party to make a grand entrance. “We and our family loved walking down the long aisle!”

tacey and Jordan met as teenagers in 2006 through mutual friends who knew Jordan from camp. Their relationship was friendly until they graduated from University and began seeing each other more regularly because their friends were close. In 2015, Jordan revealed that he had a crush on Stacey, and they went on their first date. They’ve been a couple ever since! In July of 2019, the pair went on a trip to Costa Rica. Three nights into the vacation, it was Stacey’s birthday. To celebrate, Jordan told Stacey he had planned an intimate dinner for them to take place at a private room in the resort. It was a dark, rainy evening as they made their way to dinner. “When I looked up, I saw this big tent lit up ahead of us,” remembers Stacey. “When I walked in, I saw roses and candles everywhere. When I turned around, Jordan was on one knee proposing.” Jordan had also arranged for a private chef to cook the meal, and resort staff had captured the entire proposal on video. “It was incredibly special, and I was very surprised!” says Stacey. Throughout their wedding planning process, the couple had to postpone to three different dates because of Ontario’s Covid-19 restrictions. Eventually, the couple was married on August 12, 2021, at the AGA KHAN MUSEUM in Toronto, Ontario with full-service event planning and design assistance by MELISSA BAUM EVENTS.
The overall design theme was “modern glamour” with a colour palette of white, gold, green and pearl. “We wanted everything to look modern, bright and clean,” says Stacey.

“For the day of stationery, we leaned into the modern aesthetic of the wedding,” notes event planner Melissa Baum.
Stacey and Jordan loved the atmosphere of the outdoor cocktail lounge that was set up by the infinity pools. Combined with the bright blue sky of the sunny day, the space felt like an oasis. “With the lounge area setup, candles, and the sunset it felt like we were outside the city and away,” notes the bride.
The bridesmaids wore black dresses of their own choosing which resulted in a fun variety of lengths and looks.
“From appetizers, entrées and late night food we wanted to make sure each bite was amazing for our guests!” Stacey says.

I
t was love at first sight in September 2002 when tenth grader Jameelah met eleventh grader Michael at Cardinal Leger Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario. Over that year, the pair quickly became inseparable and experienced many “firsts” together, including their first kiss, first relationship, first true love, and... their first heartbreak. Unfortunately, Michael broke up with Jameelah at the end of the school year based on advice from well-intended “elders” who thought the young couple could benefit from some time apart. Sadly, they did go their separate ways, and over a decade passed without communication. The silence was partly due to pride and because life had taken them in different directions, including failed relationships, careers, and even children. Thirteen years later, fate and intuition intervened when a then-single Michael had a vivid dream about his long-lost first love. Taking advice from a friend, he reached out to Jameelah via Instagram even though he wasn't social media savvy. Ironically, Jameelah had tried to connect with Michael three years earlier on the same platform, but when she didn’t get a follow back, she unfollowed and once again moved on with her life. Sparked by this new “DM,” they began

to chat and discovered they lived less than a kilometre apart. Eventually, they arranged to meet for a casual walk; however, that night, Michael was hit by a taxi while riding his bike home from a volleyball game! Luckily, he sustained zero injuries but had to show up to the big reunion in gym clothes looking disheveled! Despite it all, they walked and talked for hours catching up on the past decade, yet when Michael asked Jameelah for her number, she refused! “I told him no, as I was interested in someone else and did not want to lead him on,” she recalls. Michael was crushed but respected her wishes. Yet, he kept dreaming about her (including one particular dream of the pair reaching the top of a hill together in an “ancient” place), so he refused to give up. Eventually, he convinced Jameelah to meet up again. This time she gave him her number, and the rest is history. Their engagement took place in Athens, Greece, during a trip to celebrate Jameelah's 32nd birthday. Ultimately, one of Michael's many dreams came true both literally and figuratively when he proposed to the love of his life on Fillipappou Hill overlooking the ancient Acropolis. He even arranged for photographers to capture the moment Jameelah said, “Yes!”

The couple's wedding ceremony took place on August 13, 2021, but due to Covid restrictions, the reception took place almost a year later on May 6, 2022. Event planning services were provided by Aisha Munier, a childhood neighbour of Jameelah's and an event planner at PETALS & PEARLS. "Aisha was hired for partial planning, but she was with me every step of the way. Covid caused us to reschedule three times. But, she stuck it out for two whole years," notes Jameelah.

Befitting Michael's love of history, the couple chose METROPOLITAN UNITED CHURCH, a
historic church with a rich history for their wedding ceremony location.
The Ceremony Jameelah had once pictured herself having a simple “barefoot on the beach” kind of wedding, yet once she knew Michael's dream was to have a traditional ceremony in a church with a larger wedding party, she ran with his vision and took it to the next level. Before their wedding day, Pastor Frankie Lazarus asked Jameelah and Michael to write out the top ten things they each loved about the other. Then, he read the answers aloud to them for the first time at the ceremony. Another unique aspect of the ceremony was when the whole bridal party vowed to support the couple throughout their marriage journey.

Although the ceremony and reception were held almost a full year apart, the “Blush in the City” design theme was consistent for both events yet interpreted differently by two different florists. FLOWERS TIME provided the floral design for the wedding ceremony, while HENNA FLORIST handled the reception.

The Reception The reception was held in the Grand Banking Hall at ONE KING WEST, where the bride loved the architecture and ambiance. "Moody, sultry, and sexy with lots of VIBES!" is how Jameelah describes the overall feeling of the evening.
Reception floral decor and event design was provided by HENNA FLORIST with design assistance from PETALS & PEARLS. Furniture rentals were provided by DETAILZ COUTURE EVENT RENTALS, with linen rentals

About the Couple

aige and Matthew have been inseparable since 2014 when they were first introduced by a mutual friend at Western University. "We clicked immediately and shared many laughs and jokes! It truly was love at first sight!” remembers Paige. Four years later, Matthew surprised Paige with a getaway to New York City to coincide with Christmastime – her favourite holiday! On the night of their engagement, Matthew had arranged for the couple to enjoy a romantic skating session at Rockefeller Center. After the skate, (and right on cue!) the ice cleared and an employee volunteered to take the couple’s photo in front of the iconic Christmas tree. At that moment, with the entire rink to themselves, the couple’s favourite song began to play over the speakers. Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight” provided the soundtrack to Matthew’s proposal. With thousands of people watching, Paige said, “Yes!” and the crowd erupted in cheers. Later that evening, the couple celebrated their engagement with friends at Paige’s favourite restaurant. “Matt truly planned the perfect proposal weekend,” shares Paige. Paige and Matthew were married at THE OMNI KING EDWARD HOTEL on November 20, 2021. The couple enjoyed a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony in the morning before the wedding to honour their heritage.
FLEUR WEDDINGS INC and R5 EVENT DESIGN worked together to
design a ceremony stage that featured four floral posts at eight and ten feet tall and a showstopping overhead floral installation. Knowing Monica loves baby’s-breath, it was a “must have” at the wedding and it was thoughtfully used within the design. Six trees strung with wisteria and twinkling lights were also placed throughout the room. Monica's younger brother officiated the ceremony. "It was memorable because we were trying to hold in our laughter throughout the speech," shares Alex.
About the Couple
I
n the summer of 2013, Alex's friend invited him out to meet friends of his new girlfriend. At first, Alex — who had early-morning plans the next day — was hesitant. “Little did I know, that was where I would meet my future wife, Monica — I guess you can call that fate,” he says. Alex was completing his final year of a Master of Laws in London, United Kingdom, while Monica began her law school career in the same city. After being together for five months, the couple decided to move in together. “We were so lucky to have been able to live together in a foreign country, and our relationship grew stronger and closer; we were inseparable,” explains Alex. Fast forward to October 2019. Alex decided it was only right to propose in the city where the two fell in love. He planned to pop the question close to Monica’s birthday, so with the help of THE PROPOSERS, he got to work planning a proposal at London's SHANGRI-LA THE SHARD. After Monica’s birthday celebration in Toronto, Alex surprised her with two airplane tickets and asked her to pack her bags for a birthday getaway. Once she found out (at the airport!) that they were going back to London, she was thrilled. Upon arrival, the two went out for dinner while an event planner decorated their hotel room. When they returned, Monica was at a loss for words! Alex walked her down an aisle of flower petals to a view of the skyline, got down on one knee, and proposed. Monica and Alex were married on October 9, 2021, at the FOUR SEASONS HOTEL TORONTO, with full-service planning, decor, and event design provided by FLEUR WEDDINGS INC. The opulent “romantic garden”-themed wedding was planned and designed in only two months to accommodate the uncertainties of the pandemic. Since Monica has a green thumb and loves flowers, decor and design was a top priority when planning the event.

Romantic Entrance All credit goes to Alex for Monica’s dramatic entrance to their reception. “It was all his idea!” she shares. He had suggested that they have their bridal party enter to upbeat music, but that they change the mood dramatically with a slow song before Monica appeared so that guests would wonder why the vibe suddenly switched. To further amp up the romantic drama, Alex hired ballerinas to enter the room dancing. On cue, they came in and stationed themselves in a row on both sides of the aisle. Once they were in line, the lights were dimmed further so that Monica could enter very slowly into the ballroom towards Alex. His goal was to have the spotlight solely on his bride so they could cherish the moment where it would seem like no one was in the room but the two of them, all while guests could admire his bride’s first appearance. “He’s such a hopeless romantic,” says Monica of the gesture.
The well-travelled couple hired live artist, REENA YAO to create personalized luggage tags for each of their guests featuring portraits that were hand-painted on-site.
In the evening, Monica wore a red Qipao for table-to-table toasting. (There’s a tradition in the Chinese culture that the bride should wear red when toasting her guests for good luck.)
