As I write this note, I’ve just returned from two weeks in Europe where I spent some of the most memorable days of my life in the French Riviera at the first-ever WedLuxe Insider Experience followed by an epic few days at Engage! London, hosted by the Historic Royal Palaces (yes, as in Kensington and Hampton Court!).

Both of these events were designed for luxury wedding industry professionals as networking-meets-creative opportunities which allowed me the time to recharge as founder and editor of WedLuxe. On that note, It’s hard to believe but this is the 27th issue of WedLuxe Vancouver, where WedLuxe first originated, 13 years ago. Simultaneously, we are producing the 25th edition of WedLuxe Toronto. ABOUT THE COUPLE
I
t must have been fate that brought Sally Hassanzadeh and Ramin Reyhani together. Although the two had previously met, it wasn’t until they met again at the beach with some friends that they took notice of one another. The two ended up spending the rest of that day together and come the fall, both Sally and Ramin felt that their friendship had grown into something more. A few years later, Ramin had been waiting for several months for the perfect opportunity to propose. As the couple embarked on a summer tour through Europe, Ramin popped the question in Italy. “It was a beautiful day in Capri, and we were on the water, basking in the sun. As we were approaching one of the island’s famed rock formations, I suggested we take a photo with our drone. I asked Sally to come next to me for the photo, and as she looked up, I turned to her and asked her to marry me,” shares the groom. Sally and Ramin tied the knot on August 10, 2019, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Sally had not one but two bouquets courtesy of TALA FLORIST, who
provided all florals for the day. The first bouquet was a romantic arrangement of handpicked white and ivory Vendela roses, wrapped in a doublefaced oyster satin. The second bouquet was an even larger version of the same grouping.
The groom’s wedding band was from CARTIER. The bride’s wedding band was
custom-made overseas, and her engagement ring was from LUGARO JEWELLERS.
IVORY GARDEN Sally and Ramin were wed in a traditional Persian ceremony at the FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER. “The vision was to create an all-white ceremony that felt both romantic and utterly lavish,” shares planner, Haleh from DETAILS BY HALEH LUXURY EVENT PLANNING AND SOFREH DESIGN. The decor, provided by LE MARAIS DÉCOR, was classic and elegant, with an ivory and gold colour palette dominating throughout. To top it off, the back of the symbolic sofreh mirror was adorned in orchids courtesy of TALA FLORIST that draped delicately against a bed of baby’s breath that lay beneath. LE MARAIS DÉCOR provided all decor, linens, draping, vinyl, and rentals for the ceremony including the 8-ft clear glass sofreh table.

Sally and Ramin’s celebration continued to ‘wow’ guests until the late hours of the night. For their honeymoon, the newlyweds went on a month-long European getaway, making stops in Spain, Italy, Greece, and France. They currently reside in Vancouver.

The ceremony included a live string trio for the bridal processional and a bagpipe player for the wedding party, both from MUSICAL
t was love at first sight for Andreea and Alex Milne. “When we locked eyes, we both had an instant connection and smiles on our faces,” shares the groom. After meeting at a vegan restaurant in Vienna in June 2018, the chance encounter quickly turned into an evening stroll, and then later into a midnight swim. The next day, the now-newlyweds took a spontaneous flight to Monaco, and have been together ever since. Alex popped the question before Christmas. While Andreea was at a hair appointment, Sahar Sarband of MODERN MINT EVENTS INC. helped Alex plan the ultimate proposal, which included filling their house with golden “marry me” balloons, hundreds of lit candles, and a giant heart made out of rose petals. After Andreea walked in, Alex led her to the centre of the room and picked up their beloved dog, who had the ring around her neck. The second surprise of the day came when their family and friends came out of the guestroom with champagne to congratulate the happy couple. The wedding took place on July 6, 2019, in Vancouver, British Columbia. MODERN MINT EVENTS INC. provided full-service planning and design assistance for the couple’s special day. Andreea and Alex were wed in an outdoor ceremony on the rooftop of the JW MARRIOTT PARQ VANCOUVER. The couple said “I do” on a raised altar stage by ÉCLAT DECOR INC, surrounded by dramatic draping by KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN. After the groom walked the aisle to a bagpipe performance, the couple’s two dogs joined in the celebration, making it a true family affair.

The tented reception held on the JW MARRIOTT PARQ VANCOUVER rooftop was a blue-hued fairytale! The couple’s favourite colour was on full display in every aspect of the wedding, from the VIP table provided by ÉCLAT DECOR INC., to the tall and short centrepieces by FLOWERZ. To create a truly unique space, KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN used heavy blue velvet draping around the tent to create a backdrop for the bride and groom. Andreea and Alex’s five-tier wedding cake from THE CAKE & THE GIRAFFE was a perfect reflection of their big day. The top and bottom tiers were a nod to the stationery design while the focal point incorporated a floral arrangement inside an acrylic clear riser. Guests were also treated to a late-night vegan ice cream station from VIRTUOUS PIE and a vegan donut station from CARTEMS DONUTS.
For their honeymoon, Andreea and Alex have plans to return to Monaco, where they initially fell in love. However, before then, the couple will have their hands full as they welcomed their baby girl in October.

rene Barata and Graziano DeLucchi met through a mutual friend. Two weeks later, when the couple shared their first date, Irene knew something was different. “I knew from that moment he was special and he has such a good sense of humour. We laugh so much,” shares the bride. Years later, while in New York City, Graziano surprised Irene by getting down on one knee at Shakespeare Garden in Central Park. “John had the New York planner he hired clear out people so we could have a private moment. I still didn’t think anything until he pulled out a little box. It was a wonderful surprise,” recalls Irene. The ceremony and reception took place on May 18, 2019 at the FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER. SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW Evoking a lively spring day in Europe, Irene and Graziano’s reception, also at FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER, infused classic elegance and contemporary flair into every detail. “The ballroom was transformed to create an outer-worldly experience. Eight hundred candles flickered as guests entered the ballroom. Scents of stephanotis, peonies, and roses gave the feeling of a garden setting,” shares planner, Soha of COUNTDOWN EVENTS PLANNING & DESIGN. A six-course meal was served as an authentic tribute to European dining customs. The couple, being Portuguese and Italian, worked closely with the chef and culinary team from the venue to create an inspired menu from their different family backgrounds.

The newlyweds took a relaxing break after wedding planning and travelled to the Amalfi Coast, Florence, Venice, and Milan. The couple currently reside in Vancouver, British Columbia.

t was a match for the ages! Emily Tang and Mark Chang first met at the 2011 YONEX Canada Open Badminton tournament where she was a volunteer and he was a visiting athlete. The two exchanged numbers and started dating a year after that. Emily and Mark tied the knot on May 5, 2019, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Sahar Sarband of MODERN MINT EVENTS INC. planned the entire wedding as a surprise for the couple! “The best part of the wedding was the fact that everything was kept a secret from both Emily and I by our wedding planner, Sahar. She shared the concept and overall theme of the wedding day, but all the details were kept secret. It was the best decision we’ve ever made! Around every corner was another surprise for us,” shares Mark.

LIVING IN COLOUR FLOWERZ and KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN created an indoor Emerald City for Emily and Mark’s reception. The entire space was draped in heavy green velvet and had a unique diamond layout, consisting of four large tables. The setting was infused with an abundance of candlelight and sleek accents in the form of crystal vases and hanging orchids. A custom truss was built on top of the dance floor to install the hanging plexiglass pillars with the legs covered in green hedges to blend into the design.

“We didn’t know what the cake looked like until the wedding day,” shares the groom. “Sahar from MODERN MINT EVENTS INC. kept it a secret—we only got to pick the flavours, and the rest was all a surprise.” THE CAKE & THE GIRAFFE prepared an earl grey, vanilla bean cake with a pear wash, earl grey buttercream, and custard. To match the rest of the decor, an acrylic tier was added along with emerald, watercolour accents, and white orchids. After their big day, Emily and Mark embarked on their week-long honeymoon to Koh Samui, Thailand. With a private villa overlooking the water, the newlyweds enjoyed the beach, watersports, and quality time with each other. The couple currently call Vancouver, BC, home.

ABOUT THE COUPLE
Y
ael Chastny and Justin Segal were #twinning before they even met! At a mutual friend’s party in 2013, the nownewlyweds first spotted one another by their similar Jewish necklaces. Although they were by each other’s side all night, Justin left without getting Yael’s number. Yael wasn’t going to let Justin get away—she got his number, and the rest is history. Five years later, Yael was “more than ready” to graduate from girlfriend to fiancée. On the morning of the engagement, Justin shook Yael’s hand with a very convincing promise that he would propose by the end of the summer. However, what Yael didn’t know was Justin had been designing her engagement ring for the last four weeks and planned on proposing that night. On May 18, 2018, while at their favourite restaurant, Justin got down on one knee and asked Yael to become his wife. The date of the proposal was especially important to Justin, as 18 is the most important number in the Jewish faith, with a numerical value that symbolizes ‘life.’ The wedding took place on June 23, 2019, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Brittany Wong of BASH + FETE provided full-service planning and design assistance.

BLUSHING BRIDE Yael and Justin said, “I do” at the FAIRMONT PACIFIC RIM. Upon entry to the event space, guests were blown away by the breathtaking three-dimensional floral wave installation on the hotel’s marble wall. However, the focal point of the ceremony was the impressive plexiglass chuppah, courtesy of KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN, which sat atop the white velvet aisle runner. A soft, white, sheer drape covered the top of the structure and was dressed with spectacular florals on all four sides. It was Justin’s dream to have Tesfaye Anagaw by his side as a groomsman. Known for his philanthropic endeavours in Ethiopia with his father, Justin had first met Tesfaye while the groomsmen had severe scoliosis of the spine. After Justin’s father personally enabled life-saving spinal surgery for Tesfaye, the charity, Bring Back Hope, was born.

THE GOOD LIFE The couple’s reception was a true fashion affair. “The couple is passionate about fashion and hip-hop music so Kanye West’s Yeezy brand influenced the overall theme of the wedding,” shares Brittany from BASH + FETE. Keeping in line with the neutral colour palette Yeezy has become known for, KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN draped the entire reception with beige and taupe chiffon draping. However, all eyes were drawn to the centre of the room, which included the remarkable ceiling treatment of all-white wisteria garlands and modern oblong-shaped crystal chandeliers. “Even the flowers over the dance floor were a nod to those used at Kanye West’s 41st birthday party,” shares the planner.

FAIRMONT PACIFIC RIM prepared a three-course dinner which started with a salad, continued to a miso-glazed cod with bok choy for the main entrée, and a divine trio of desserts to finish. The night also included GANACHE PATISSERIE’S four-tiered vegan cake that not only suited the couple’s dietary restrictions but also matched their wedding aesthetic. Yael and Justin visited Europe for their honeymoon. Beginning in Venice, the couple boarded an eleven-night Mediterranean Cruise that visited Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Malta, Sicily, Amalfi, Sorrento, and ended in Rome. The newlyweds happily look back on their honeymoon as the “best trip of our lives.” Yael and Justin currently live in Vancouver, BC.

t only took two dates for Nina and Martin to fall in love. For their blind date in June 2011, Martin made two reservations at two different restaurants. He told Nina she could either select one of his choices or choose one of her own. In the end, Martin’s choice won out. For their second date, the pair walked their dogs, and according to Nina, “That’s all it took to know he was the one.” Sharing a mutual love of nature, Martin decided to pop-the-question a couple of years later, mirroring that second date. While out on a dog walk around their property, Nina turned around to find Martin on one knee, asking her to marry him. The couple has since planted a magnolia tree in that exact spot to commemorate the moment. Nina and Martin were married on July 6, 2019, on the grounds of their property in Pemberton, British Columbia. COUNTRYSIDE CHIC The couple tied the knot on the grounds of their property in Pemberton. A 239-ft raised aisle was a design collaboration with ALICIA KEATS WEDDINGS + EVENTS, CELEBRATE EVENTS, RENTAL NETWORK LTD. and GRANVILLE ISLAND FLORIST, who also created the floral arch and over 200-ft of florals to line the platform. “We weren’t looking to create something that Pemberton wasn’t— it was all about highlighting the beauty and the things that make Pemberton so incredibly special,” shares Nina. The ceremony was officiated by Jeremy Postal of WHISTLER WEDDING PASTOR.

ukhi Heer and Darren Fernandes fell in love instantly after meeting at a friend’s birthday party. “Upon being introduced, we were instantly drawn to one another. It was love at first sight, and early on, we both realized we found something special,” shares Sukhi. Fast forward a couple years, and the couple were on a weekend getaway to Whistler, British Columbia. After deciding to go for a walk to Rainbow Lake, Darren offered to take a photo of Sukhi looking out into the distance. When she turned around, Sukhi saw Darren on one knee with a ring in his hand. Ten years later, on July 26, 2019, two days after their tenth anniversary, the couple became husband and wife. Sukhi and Darren tied the knot in Vancouver, British Columbia. Geneve McNally of DREAMGROUP WEDDINGS + EVENTS provided partial planning and design assistance. The ceremony was held on the Friday before the wedding reception, so the couple felt refreshed and had time for pictures on both days. Wanting the focus to be on the beautiful architecture of the HOLY ROSARY CATHEDRAL, the only florals at the celebration were the boutonnieres and bouquets, along with beautifully coloured orchids on either side of the altar by DUSHAN FLOWERS. I
f this wedding story doesn’t have you swooning, then we don’t know what will! Eva Zhang and Kevin Wang first met in 2013 at a park BBQ in Burnaby, British Columbia. While it was love at first sight for Kevin, Eva was seeing someone else at the time, so they remained friends. After losing touch for a few years when Eva moved back to China, the two reconnected at Christmas in 2015, and expressed their mutual interested in one another. The couple decided to return to Canada a few months later and move forward with the next stage of their life. Nearly four years after their first meeting, Kevin popped the question. The couple said “I do” on August 5, 2018, in Victoria, British Columbia. Jessie Lo of WEDO WEDDINGS ETC. provided full-service planning and collaborated with event design company, WEDDINGISM on the entire wedding. CELSIA FLORAL provided all florals for the day.

In the middle of the forest surrounding the venue, a floral installation was built around a vintage four-post bed and velvet sofa for the bride and her bridesmaids to use and take photos while getting ready. “It was as if you stumbled into an enchanted forest,” recalls Jessie Lo of WEDO WEDDINGS ETC.

R O YA L G A R D E N Eva and Kevin’s ceremony was held in the gardens at the iconic HATLEY CASTLE. As the grounds themselves are something out of a fairytale, the couple wanted their florals and decor to highlight the castle in the background. CELSIA FLORAL transformed the space into a royal garden by using a 9-ft custom-built arch with hundreds of blush, peach, and ivory blooms. Designed to look whimsical, ethereal, and reminiscent of a princess garden, loose bouquets of roses and dahlias were interspersed with greenery. Eva wore a PRONOVIAS gown and veil for the ceremony with ROGER VIVIER heels, a MON CHERI BRIDALS crown, and DIOR
earrings. Eva’s bouquet by CELSIA FLORAL was designed with an assortment of seasonal blooms in a beautiful late summer colour palette of blush, peach, yellow, and cream.
“The biggest priority was to have my fairytale dream come true while celebrating together with our beloved ones from all over the world.” –EVA
The couple exchanged personalized vows for the ceremony. “When we started preparing our vows, we both wanted them to be perfect but didn’t know what to write. Although we came to the ceremony with notes, we ended up not using them and spoke from the heart,” recalls the bride. DAVID PECK officiated.

END NOTES After a five-course meal from TRUFFLE FINE FOODS, it was time to bring out the cake. Not only did MOMO CHEN CAKES provide a delicious dessert table but an epic wedding cake that was over 1.5 meters tall! The whole cake took the team one month to create and more than 300 hours to complete. For their honeymoon, Eva and Kevin took a muchneeded break to Tokyo and Hakone in Japan. Activities included shopping, eating, and enjoying the natural hot springs in Hakone. The couple currently reside in Richmond, BC.

n true rom-com fashion, Abby Kun and Evan Lo first met on the dance floor in November 2016. “Evan approached me and asked if I’d like to have a drink. I kindly declined the offer (as I’m not much of a drinker), and instead, he offered me water. We got to talking, we laughed a bit, and left feeling a connection,” shares Abby. Two years later, the couple embarked on their first trip to Spain. While in Seville, Abby and Evan woke up early to visit the Plaza de Espana before it got too busy. Just as the sun peaked above the clouds, Evan got down on one knee and proposed. “As he put the ring on my finger, Evan explained that his mother knew and had given him the diamond from her ring to give to me,” recalls the bride. The couple wed on August 31, 2019, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Nargess Tabrizy-Shokrani of FLEUR DE LIS EVENTS provided full-service planning and design assistance. For the ceremony, THE FLOWER FACTORY created a dreamy floral celebration at the FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER with white orchids and an ivory gate covered in fresh foliage. The inaugural WedLuxe Insider Experience took place in the French Riviera this past October. An intimate group of luxury wedding and event professionals joined WedLuxe editor-in-chief, Angela Desveaux, for a three-day inspirational art and design tour. The group enjoyed unparalleled experiences and private access at some of the most incredible locations in the region.
The welcome dinner was held in a private chapel, located on the property of the CHÂTEAU DE BELLET winery run by The Barons of Bellet, whose title of nobility was granted in 1777 by the King of the Sardinian states. This family, originating from Savoie, gave its name to the appellation, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2011. The chapel was constructed out of white stones from the former quarry of La Turbie. These are the same stones used to build Monaco’s cathedral, famous casino, and oceanographic museum. Château de Bellet wine enjoys centuries of recognition as the best of the region and was served at the royal wedding of Prince Albert of Monaco and Princess Charlene.
