about us Wedventure Magazine is all about those wild at heart couples. The couples, like you, that spend their Saturdays hiking high into sharp pine forests and their nights star-hunting in the desert. For those whose native language is wanderlust and the only rule is to break all the rules. It takes a village to weave together a magical and meaningful wedding day. Selecting the right vendors for a once-in-alifetime celebration can fray nerves and open the floodgates to an ugly cry or two — this is especially true during a pandemic. It has been a very long and confusing three months as we all are attempting to pick the right paths while trying to be safe. Our promise is to continue to do what we can to spotlight the resources you need to plan your big day in a way that is uniquely you. Whether that is saying urban nuptials amongst the glamour and grit of old industrial buildings, or an exchange of vows out in Mother Nature herself. One of the things we love most about the work we do at Wedventure is the advice we hear from talented people in the wedding industry. They’ve seen it all and thrive on making your wedding day as enchanting as possible. So when they speak, we listen and then share it all with you.

We know nothing is like a printed copy of our magazine, but we hope you enjoy our first digital copy in 2020! We love sharing epic “I Do” moments and are learning right along with you what that now looks like as we take on this new direction in these uncertain times. Thank you all for your support, especially during the last few months. Be well and be safe. -Cali Clement, Editor & Creative

Anna & Jamie's

DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS WEDDING “The way we decided on November 2 (dubbed “Our Souls’ Day”) came together rather organically. When we decided to

get married the one thing we were sure of — it was going to be one giant celebration for both our families, near and far. With both of our fathers and several grandparents having passed earlier in our lives, we knew we wanted to incorporate them into our celebration, in a more jovial manner. Enter Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a two-day celebration where families welcome the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. Traditionally, the adult spirits rejoin their families on November 2nd, known in the Catholic church as All Souls’ Day.”

With this in mind, our big day could not have aligned better. Halloween is our favorite holiday, which fell on a Thursday this year. Our families flew out a couple days early, celebrated Halloween at our house (the kind of neighborhood the local police shut the roads down due to all the kids!) and then everyone had the next day off! We used this day for any last minute prep, and our wedding would follow on the perfect Saturday for the occasion – Dia de los Muertos. Waking our loved ones from their eternal sleep, we would encourage their return to celebrate in the mortal world by building ofrendas, or altars, that are decorated with photos of those past, candles, marigolds – and of course, their favorite foods and drinks. Along with sumptuous Mexican cuisine and a fantastic DJ, we also had a face painter at our reception to help bring the mortals together, acknowledging the duality of life and death with half-painted faces and other symbology.

We kept the principles of this holiday as our guide, honored to have an opportunity to showcase this wonderful tradition with reverence. We appreciate the values celebrated during Dia de los Muertos, a day that encapsulates the strongest bond Jamie and I have formed over the years – our family. -Anna + Jaime, Bride and Groom wedventuremag.com

we don’t have everything, but we

LOVE everything we have BY IVORY & EVERGREEN

We created this dreamy desert elopement inspiration shoot to show the adventurous readers of Wedventure how to make their day memorable with a bit of an edge. Our couple daringly climbed the highest rocks to get the perfect shot, and we feel others will relate and be inspired by these images. In a fast-paced world where we are always on the go and striving to plan the next thing, an elopement can seem far-fetched. Add today’s COVID pandemic, and it can seem impossible. But with the right wedding planner holding things together, an amazing photographer like Stephanie Keegan, and a breathtaking view in the middle of nowhere, it is a lot closer (and easier) than you think. For this vision, we wandered out to the middle of Washington, far from city lights, roads, and noise. We wanted to keep things simple, minimalistic, and natural. Our beautiful couple was the center of the show — as it should always be. Rather than aiming for the most perfect backdrop for their ceremony, we put our couple in the midst of it. Every kiss, every vow, and every photo embraced the real meaning between these two tying the knot. Said best by them, “We don’t have everything, but we love everything we have.” Our bride looked effortlessly beautiful in her Lafayette gown by Sarah Seven. Loose curls, natural glam makeup, and a wedventuremag.com

Wild Bliss + Co Event Planning “It is so important to see a wedding that inspires them to think that it is possible for them too. Whether a wedding, elopement, or vow renewal, couples shouldn’t limit themselves, instead make it an adventure! This couple was not afraid to lay in the dirt together, to hang off a cliff for the perfect picture, or to be hundreds of feet above the Snake River to showcase how beautiful the area was. And our bride Kelci looked and felt beautiful too.” “I think it is SO important for women (and men) to feel comfortable during these shoots as well as their real weddings or elopements. That confidence was the most beautiful part of the whole shoot, and I am so proud to be the mind behind that, to design such a special moment for them to enjoy. There’s no denying their love for each other through these photos.”

Spera Floral

“It was important that the flowers for this shoot really tie together the different stylistic elements of the overall feel and setting. They needed to add elegance to the rather rugged desert terrain, but still, be complementary. For some of the softer touches, I used soft pink roses, white lisianthus, and light pink carnations. To draw contrast while pulling in the richer tones of the shoot, I used Safari Sunset leucadendrons. These offer unique leaves in a deep red color. I also added in some orange-ish ranunculus and other bits, plus the underside of magnolia leaves that have that rustcolored side opposite a rich green leaf. The pampas grass was definitely a key ingredient. Those added that softer billowy feel while still pulling in the drier wilderness we were in.” “I really took into consideration the color, texture, size, and price for each element in these designs, as I do for each of my bride’s designs. For those wanting a bouquet or arrangement similar to what you see here, I would recommend starting your budget closer to $250, knowing that availability and pricing vary depending on the season.”

Jones Co Creative

“Austin and I, Sarah, are a husband and wife photo and video team. We always joke around that we are just a couple of soulmates capturing soulmates! Working together full time while hanging out with ridiculously cool couples has been a dream come true! This shoot was no exception and such a great opportunity to wedventuremag.com

27

work with the valley’s most talented vendors. We started shooting two hours before sunset, and the timing could not have been more perfect. The sun was still high enough when we started that the light hit the hills amazingly, causing them to glow! As the sun set, it cast the most magnificent golden light across the valley and lit the scene in the most angelic way. It all came together like a scene straight out of a fairytale!” “Our main goal is to capture not only what the day looked like, but more importantly, what it FELT like. The love that Kelci + Cody share is everything that this shoot enveloped — warm and gentle while also being wild and fearless. In my opinion, what makes a shoot like this pure magic is love. So many people poured their hearts into creating such a beautiful evening, and I think we did an excellent job capturing that feeling. Love comes in all shapes and sizes, romantic and platonic, through creativity and passion. To us, this is what love looks like.”

Postponing due to the Pandemic? HOW TO BRING JOY BACK INTO YOUR WEDDING PLANNING After you have decided to postpone your wedding, reviewed all of your vendor contracts, rescheduled, and felt all the emotions, now what? Do something that brings some excitement back to your wedding planning process and go take some engagement photos! Already taken some? Ask your photographer if you can schedule a date to take some more, maybe in a new location! Just like you, your photographer is sad your wedding has been postponed and most likely would love to get out and shoot again. Either way, it is a chance to get outdoors, reconnect with your significant other and do something that brings some joy back into your wedding planning. Wedventure Tip: You could also contact your hair and makeup artist and do a trial run during the new shoot. If this is a second shoot for you, use this opportunity to try a new hairstyle or different makeup which could be helpful especially if your new wedding date is in a different season than originally planned.

A HUGE CELEBRATION OF

LOVE Kori and Dustin chose this location for the rich textures, dramatic

terrain, and seductive spell Mother Nature casts on those who are

drawn to the wild desolation of the high desert. Under the glow of the summer sun, where azure skies merged with rugged earth, Summer Lake Hot Springs came alive with the promise of wild romance. These two are the perfect example of an adventurous PNW couple. They had so many people there to support them on their wedding day — almost 200 to be exact — and it wasn’t exactly an easy venue to get to! Their wedding was so unique, and the location was absolutely what they had envisioned — perfect for their bohemian hippy vibes. Kori and Dustin and all their friends came together so creatively to make it a beautiful day. We always say we love couples who “explore together, dare together, and get dusty together.” And this couple absolutely fits this description! “Adventurous weddings are my jam. So being able to shoot a larger wedding out in the desert was an absolute blast. Working with Kori and Dustin was effortless, and their venue location made it impossible to take a bad photo. As a photographer, my goal is to make my clients feel relaxed and comfortable. And that’s exactly how their day felt to all that attended. Even though the guest list was large, the day was stress-free, and we had plenty of time to take tons of photos. Kori and Dustin did a fantastic job creating a unique, dreamy wedding, and I’m so thankful I was able to be there to capture it.” — Courtney Hellen Photography

About Courtney Hellen Photography I’m your stereotypical Oregonian. I love adventure, nature, and any

excuse to get outside. So I found my niche as an outdoor wedding photographer for people who share that same love of nature and adventure. For me, being a wedding photographer means being an integral part of one of the most significant experiences. And that is not something I take lightly. I will always do my best to make sure your wedding day is exactly how you want it and to make sure it is documented accordingly. I want my clients to be relaxed and comfortable. I want them to laugh and giggle and dance and enjoy their big day to the absolute fullest. My work style is documentary, natural, and, most importantly, timeless. With me, my clients can have their favorite memories to share for years to come.

For those gutsy couples who wonder and wander through life and prefer a wide-open trail to a traditional aisle, Palouse Falls, Idaho does not disappoint. Creating an unconventional wedding or elopement starts with choosing a meaningful setting — like the hike you went on your first date. Scout out a location for your ceremony considering your guest list and go from there. And remember to take advice from Mother Nature and keep it gorgeous yet simple.

ABOUT PALOUSE FALLS

Carved more than 13,000 years ago, Palouse Falls is among the last active waterfalls on the Ice Age floods path. This natural wonder was named Washington’s state waterfall in 2014. This 94-acre park is an artist’s dream and makes a spectacular backdrop for your images. There is a short ADA walking path for your guests, but parking is limited. Visitors should be prepared for a remote recreational experience because there is no phone service at the park. This park is a cash or check only location, with an automated pay station. “My goal for this elopement, was to capture the personalities of this real Bend couple while representing my own design style. Victoria and Bryce are playful, romantic, and passionate about rock climbing, so planning an elopement at Meadow Camp near the climbing crags in Bend, Oregon made perfect sense.” — Emily Noyd, Ponderosa Planning

“My advice to couples is to choose a wedding location that's special to you, even if it's not glamorous. Think outside the box and consider places like your favorite walk in the woods with your dog or the state park you loved as a kid. I'm a huge fan of elopements and small weddings because there's often more latitude for the couple to make it truly theirs. Weddings are not 'one size fits all' and the only thing that matters is that your love is celebrated your way. — Emily Noyd, Ponderosa Planning

58

wedventuremag.com

wedventuremag.com

59

Wedventure Tip: Be sure to check that your elopement location doesn't require a permit. In Oregon and Washington, many national forest recreation sites require a day use fee, especially if your guest count (including vendors) reaches 75 people. If over 75 people, a non commercial Deschutes National Forest permit would be required and should be completed 30 days before arrival.

“I love working in Central Oregon because my clients and fellow vendors tend to be drawn here for the same reason I am: the outdoors. It's a common thread that drives my commitment to sustainability, authenticity, and leaving plenty of time to play. I'm passionate about making wedding planning less stressful so you have energy left to enjoy it! I build trust with couples so they are confident I can execute their vision. And at the end of the day, if I've done my job, they look around thinking, this is exactly what I dreamed of. ” — Emily Noyd, Ponderosa Planning

A Gutsy Love Story

IN THE GLOW OF THE RISING SUN “The Cove Palisades is a hidden gem in Central Oregon that is often overshadowed by its neighbor, Smith Rock and is a testament to Pacific Northwest brides connected to nature. With clifftop views of mountains from almost every angle leading to a gorgeous little drive down into the canyon, right up next to (or into) the water, this location offers so many breath-taking views with minimal hiking or driving. It is a perfect location for sunrise or sunset elopements, and you can create so many different looks and feels by hopping in the car and driving just another couple hundred feet. It was 5 AM and only 20°F, but to them, the world stood still, and they had each other to keep them warm, it was pure magic.” — Megan Norman, The Beatific Lens This couple shared their unique spirit with their photographer as they celebrated their gusty love story in the glow of a rising sun. Your wedding should fully reflect who you are as a couple, which means paying extra special attention to every little detail. On your big day, however, the last thing you (or your mom) want to stress over is whether someone remembers to light the candles before you walk down the aisle. If there’s anyone we trust implicitly to handle every single thing — from pre-planning and vendor recommendations to décor and day-of oversight — it’s Abby Elvebak, owner of ae creative. Located in Bend, Oregon, ae creative is a wedding planning, creative styling and paper good designing collective, offering a variety of packages and mix-and-match services to suit every situation. Ae also offers one-of-a-kind vintage and modern rentals, which can be rented on their own or added to any package. Plus, thoughtful couples drawn to the Pacific Northwest will appreciate ae’s sustainable and eco-conscious approach to planning and designing events. The team at ae creative are passionate about what they do — and their calming presence combined with customized, comprehensive planning ensures you won’t worry about any of those crucial details. But beyond the essential nuts and bolts, their fresh ideas and creative process make sure your wedding is uniquely you, full of meaning and memories. Abby says, “We want your guests to walk away from your wedding learning something new about you. Your personal style should shine on your wedding day.” wedventuremag.com

This weekend wedding event was held at the House on Metolius in Camp Sherman, Oregon. Inspired by an elegant English garden, whimsey Harry Potter and maritime nautical touches, this beautiful outdoor fall wedding came together just before the first snowfall. How romantic is that?! Speaking of romance, the Harry Potter series, summed up, is about love. And J.K. Rowling taught us all from a young age that the power of love should never be underestimated. These two love birds are big Harry Potter fans and ae creative took that shared detail and made pages from Harry Potter paperbacks come to life as table runners.

So often winter celebrations stick to lots of cool tones. This February, this team of wedding pros decided to try something a little different to spark inspiration for events during the colder seasons. They were inspired by their creative couple to feature olive and jewel tones that pop against an arid winter backdrop. The end result was a gorgeous display bringing their playful personalities to life with expressions of color and whimsical details. Kate of Tapestry Event Co. had prioritized finding intimate venues for her couples to have their gatherings. Taylor of TMInspired had been dreaming of a greenhouse photo shoot long before she relocated to the Pacific Northwest. Together, they knew they could find the perfect fit for their creative endeavor and their future clients. Christianson’s Nursery checked all the boxes. Christianson’s Nursery has multiple event spaces to choose: The Meadow Schoolhouse that fits up to 60 guests for your ceremony. A fully restored glass-front heated greenhouse with antique finials and verdant plant material for a luscious photographic backdrop. Also includes 60 wooden chairs, an eight-foot Mercantile table, 2 eight-foot banquet tables, Wi-Fi access, AV equipment, restrooms, and kitchen facilities with a walk-in cooler. The English Rose Garden accommodating up to 150 guests in an 80-foot square sweeping grass lawn lined with boxwood hedges and perennials. A Bridal Cottage equipped with vanity, outlets, and mirrors. Plus a changing room just steps away from the Bridal Cottage perfect for the groom and his groomsmen. And an outdoor area complete with picnic tables in a field with plenty of space for a dance floor. During the ceremony, James sang and played a song for Lisa. It was lovely to see how comfortable and deeply present they were with one another. His own velvet jacket brought his personality into the shoot, while the multiple instruments he brought along made the space theirs. Their love for music filled the space with joy and intention. wedventuremag.com

While the couple hosted their own intimate ceremony, coordinator Kate of Tapestry Event Co., and florists JoAnne and Adina of Bumblebee Bridal Works, set up the table scape in the greenhouse. They made gorgeous carnation garlands to hang in the schoolhouse and brought more carnations and handcrafted pom poms as well as a gorgeous statement piece for the table. With the eye-catching desserts from Botanical Bakery Seattle (pressed flowers in the cookies and lollipops — hello, color!) and unique place settings from Cherry Rentals & Event Design, Kate was able to make a fresh and vibrant table scape for the couple to celebrate their love. The color palette popped against the natural background, making Cree + Co’s careful calligraphy and invitation design look impeccable.

About Simply by Tamara Nicole

Since 2011, our team has been helping couples plan their perfect wedding day. With over 170+ weddings planned, and countless new friendships over the years with our past clients, we’ve loved every moment of it. We continue to offer designer services with a boutique feel for brides who dream of an unforgettable day. Through each wedding we create, we have the unique chance of pouring our hearts, souls, and passion into planning and designing every detail (big and small!) for your dream day. We give our all to the beautiful memories we help you create and cherish. Our inspiration behind this fun fashion shoot was showcasing high-end springtime wedding fashion. Our goal was to inspire brides to not be afraid of adding a little sparkle and color to their wedding. Bridalinstaglam styled all of the Netta Benshabu pieces meticulously well (that cape, right?!) Yessie Libby did a very sleek high pony for our models Kierra and Katie, and a smokey look for the eye color. For the flower inspiration, we used garden roses combined with various florals in yellow, blush, mauve, and purple, with some sweet peas from our garden. For the table, we added some drama with a tulle overlay. The invitation suite by Grey & Cake coordinated perfectly with the shoot’s vibe and color palette. The suite had a printed vellum overlay that matched the vellum place cards on the tablescape. We added some simple thin greens and a flower to the clean, modern cake by Saltadena, and placed it in front of the small floral installation. Simple, gorgeous perfection.

PNW Winter Vibes

114

wedventuremag.com

This talented group of wedding pros wanted to create something that was indeed a representation of what a winter wedding could be in the PNW. A time when nature pares down to the essential: bare branches, crinkly ferns, dried seed pods. The altar can be a simple tripod of birch branches. The cake — long a symbol of fertility — can carry the blessing of feathering a nest together. And if the winter trees are dressed in white, the bride can sparkle in a color that suits her best. Yes, sometimes that means emerald

sequins. After all, a wedding celebrates the singular love between two humans, and that party needs no rulebook or fortune. This wedding style is for the adventurous at heart but especially for those who are looking for a simple way of showing it. The PNW is lush for nature, and we wanted to include it in the most elegant way possible. You can recreate this anywhere, anytime. It's all about finding what you love and incorporating it wherever you can — even if it bucks tradition.

Embracing

Mother Nature

118 wedventuremag.com wedventuremag.com

This styled elopement shoot on the Oregon coast was a true PNW winter miracle. Fort Stevens is a gorgeous 4,300-acre park offering a variety of recreation adventures. But on this day, the beach at Fort Stevens State Park was wild, and the green mossy forest was pure Oregon: wet. It even started raining at one point, and Corinne embraced it like the true Oregonian that she is, enjoying every minute. “We explored the many trails around Fort Stevens, including the shipwreck of the Peter Iredale. Corinne and Dean were some of the happiest people I’ve ever photographed on such a cold day, and their positive attitudes were warming,” said Jenn Maurer, Wild Coast Photography. Two things we admire and respect about Wild Coast Photography are how inclusivity isn’t a footnote for them, but rather a frontline focus, and their business motto. “Wild Coast Photography strives to assist in the cultivation of, and artfully capture, a wedding experience as entirely authentic to the individual marriers as it is respectful and caring of the natural environment we work in.” Wedventure Tip: If you choose to get married outside in the PNW — in any season — embrace the weather Mother Nature gives you. Getting down about the weather only gets you down. Instead, let the good vibes flow no matter what, and you will have the best day! Plus, rain represents many things in different cultures, including fertility, cleansing, unity, and renewal. One of our fave superstitions (Hindu belief) is when a knot becomes wet, it is tough to untie. So, when it rains when you “tie the knot,", your marriage is supposed to be just as hard to unravel!

Meet Kathleen Elizabeth Photography

Kathleen Elizabeth is an adventure wedding and elopement photographer based in Washington who loves photographing couples who are madly in love and who aren't afraid to do something a little different and wild on their wedding day. I'll be your ultimate elopement guide by planning timelines, acquiring permits and passes, provide helpful information, and most importantly document your love story naturally and authentically. Q: What is your favorite part about photography? “It is SO much more than the photos. It's the people — the relationships we build and the experiences we have together. It's experiencing epic places with new friends, and witnessing two people commit their lives to each other. It is such an honor to be a part of an elopement day, and a responsibility I don't take lightly. I promise not only to take beautiful photos, but I will capture your wedding day in an authentic way that showcases your relationship and personalities.” Q: Why did you become an elopement photographer? “ I became an elopement photographer because I believe that everyone deserves to get married in a way that is truly authentic to them. And I also believe that everyone's love should be celebrated with a unique experience that is absolutely unforgettable. Elopements strip down all the stuff, the fluff, and the expectations of others. Instead, elopements and intimate weddings bring the focus back to what truly matters on someones wedding day — the couple. Honestly, I didn't know that adventure elopements existed when I was planning my own wedding. If I had, I definitely would have eloped as it more closely aligns with who I am. My husband and I wrote out the vows that we truly wanted to say to one another to read before the ceremony, because neither of us felt comfortable saying them in front of an audience. So, now I want to tell everyone else who feels the same way as I did, that it doesn't have to be like that and I am here to help! This secret elopement is what happens when paths collide on a dark, rainy night in Scotland. It’s where Chelann met Samuel. We loved how they incorporated elements of his Scottish heritage in their intimate wedding. It was one of the most beautiful, intimate celebrations in the beautiful Cascade Mountains overlooking Lake Kachess, Washington. “09.19.19 will forever be stamped into my mind as the most magical, fulfilling day of my life. This day that I’ve waited for was BEYOND my wildest dreams. On a crisp fall day, we exchanged vows on a mountain overlooking Lake Kachess during our dream private wedding ceremony. It was intimate, evolving, blissful, and hands-down the best day of our lives to date!” says Chelann. Kim Butler is an elopement and intimate wedding photographer who loves adventure and was there to document their day. She is inclusive of documenting all love stories. Like us, Kim feels you don’t have to get married in the mountains to have an adventurous vibe at your wedding. Some of her favorite weddings have happened in backyards, and the photos are still beyond gorgeous! 130

Advice from Kim Butler Photography

“It’s ok if you have decided to elope. Perhaps you started to plan a big wedding and realized it just wasn’t for you. Maybe you wanted less stress and to spend less money, so you don’t start your marriage in debt. Maybe you both don’t like being the center of attention and don’t want 200+ eyes looking at you while you do one of the most personal acts between two humans. It’s also possible you want to keep your families safe because of the pandemic. Instead, you will FaceTime or Zoom your family after or have them watch the ceremony from the comfort of their home. Maybe you don’t feel safe around your family

because they cause additional stress or are too judgmental of your relationship. As much as I hope this last option isn’t true, I know for some it is.” “Let me be the first to say that there is no wrong reason as to why you and your lover have decided to elope. Just know that when you’re with me documenting it, it’s a judge-free and stress-free zone.” “I truly want to see you two happy and being able to be present in the moment. That is why I am an elopement photographer. One thing I always do in my sessions is bring music to enhance the photo experience. I have always enjoyed being that person growing up with the PERFECT playlist for any situation. It can help you relax, laugh, fall deeper in love, and, of course, dance! And every time I play “Resolution” by Matt Corby, I take a deep breath, get goosebumps, and try not to cry as I photograph you dancing together. Knowing life’s journey is just beginning, and you are overflowing with love and joy. This is my joy.”

Saying “I do” is the opportunity to stitch an unconventional story, where the promise of adventure is our thread, the memories we come back with our tapestries. For those gutsy couples who prefer a lakeside path to a traditional aisle, the PNW does not disappoint. We love the idea of weaving intriguing stories into the smaller details of your wedding celebration. Wedventure Tip: Something old... something new...Remember and honor your elders, especially those who can not be there with you on your wedding day, with a piece of sentimental jewelry attached to your bouquet. The gold ‘Q’ pin you see attached to this bride's bouquet ribbon was in honor of her Uncle and Fairy Godfather who had passed away but whose presence was remembered and felt with them all weekend. Nestled among the ancient forests, glacial lakes, and towering mountains of Olympic National Park, is NatureBridge Olympic — a beautiful natural setting for your wedding. From the couple on why they chose Salishan Resort for their venue: “Salishan Resort was the perfect blend of our styles. It is natural, yet modern, and elegant. Our ceremony was outside on a cobblestone path that leads to a large wooden arch over the altar. We knew we wanted something near the coast, because it is our favorite place to be! The Salishan is also a special place for my family. When I (Rayhan) was younger, my family would spend holidays and weekends there together.

On your wedding day, you most likely won’t have two to three hours to step away from your guests and capture all the amazing golden hour portraits you have been dreaming of. An excellent solution is a day-after bridal portrait session. It’s another day, scheduled after the wedding (not always literally the day after), where you get dressed up again, hit up some amazing locations, and capture those amazing portraits.

SOF T ROMANCE AT THE

BEAC H The day after Madison and Tallen tied the knot with their friends and family, they drove over to the coast for a day-after adventure session. They hiked through a beautiful, old growth forest to where the tree line broke at the top of Cascade Head on the Oregon Coast. The weather was sunny with light winds, perfect for adventuring and photographing! They even spotted a herd of elk in the meadow of the neighboring hill! Tallen & Madison really wanted to have their love for each other captured alongside their love for the great outdoors, since, in their own words, "Literally all we want to do for the rest of our lives is go on adventures to beautiful places". This shoot really captures their love for adventuring, and their love for each other. And that spirit of adventure drew them in and here's to never letting it go. About Rebekah Leona Photography: We think one of her past client's reviews say it best: “Nothing but wonderful things to say about this incredibly talented lady! Rebekah took both our engagement and our wedding photos. She is efficient, professional, and such a sweetheart! She had such helpful suggestions for those of us who aren’t always super comfortable in front of a camera, had the necessary commanding presence to corral friends and family for group photos, and had our beautiful wedding photos back to us within a week! We wouldn’t hesitate to hire her again.” – Emily C., past wedding client

Opt to Elope: Commit to Something Different in 2020 with DavidAnn

As wedding photographers, if we had one driving reason to compel our couples to elope this year, it would simply be because of COVID-19. And if that isn’t reason enough, imagine Cardi B screaming the words “CORONAVIRUS, CORONAVIRUS” each time you think about wedding planning! As serious as this pandemic is, DavidAnn knows how hard it has been for couples to completely stop or put on hold the preparation of one of the most exciting days of their life, their wedding. If you two are healthy and 100% down to commit to getting married this year, you should. Eloping ultimately means having the best adventure with your best friend. Another benefit is far less stress from wedding planning. And most importantly, plenty of just-the-twoof-you time (sorry guests!) Once you receive your wedding photos and video, you can share with your guests to experience and enjoy the event with you! Heck, use COVID as a reason to make your day 100% catered to you by eloping your way!

What Is Eloping?

We hear the term a lot, but what does “elopement” actually mean? You’re probably aware of its most archaic definition, which is, “to run away secretly to get married usually without parental consent.” Today the term “elopement” has taken on a new meaning, many thanks to the evolving wedding industry and, in particular, made “Insta-famous” by the photography industry. We think elopement has become the industry buzzword for the evolution of what an intimate wedding should be. The presentation of your special day is so important. We know the weight that wedding planning carries. As a couple who has been married for six years, we still go back to our days of wedding planning and wish we had done so many things differently. Therefore, we know how crucial it is for our couples to desire and ultimately experience the most beautiful and memorable day of their lives! So taking this moment as an opportunity, an elopement is the perfect plan for escaping the pressures of a traditional wedding.

Is Eloping for You?

Many couples have had to put their wedding dreams on hold. While some of you can wait for the pandemic to end, some would wish they could seal the deal as planned. If this is you, you should elope! You can always elope today and celebrate big at a later date. Eloping is perfect for couples that: >> Want to get married ASAP. >> The thought of an intimate elopement sounds utterly romantic. >> Are living through a pandemic and need to social distance. >> Money is tight. >> You hate being the center of attention. >> Wedding planning is too stressful. In 2020 and beyond, we believe that elopements will become a new standard. And that’s not just because of a global pandemic; it’s also because of social media. The shareability of our lives is more expressive and accessible than ever before. wedventuremag.com

175

176

wedventuremag.com

Even after travel bans lift and people can travel, it’s going to be difficult for most of our loved ones to do so. There will be some severe fall-out in our industry from this pandemic. And this goes for both the couples getting married and the vendors who are creating the experience. Namely, does it still take a village to get married, or does the marriage experience become more about a finely tuned (and still gorgeous!) intimate experience?

Guys, we understand this is a crazy weird time for all of us. It’s why we invite all our couples to have an honest conversation with us (and with all your vendors) about your wedding goals. Together we can work it out and create a safe and intimate setting to tell your love story.

DavidAnn is excited to collaborate with Totem Weddings & Events to offer an all-inclusive elopement session for $2500. • 2 to 4 hours of photo and video coverage. • Location scouting and timeline guidance. • Planning and design, which includes set up and dismantling of all design elements at the event. • A minimalist designed ceremony backdrop. • Custom bridal bouquet and boutonniere • Cake for two • Video coverage with a 2-3 minute highlight video. • Social media live coverage. An

Intimate Wedding DURING

THE

COVID

PANDEMIC

BY GAGAN DHIMAN PHOTOGRAPHY

2020 was the year that I was looking forward to. I was looking forward to all the weddings that I was going to capture. With COVID-19, everything changed. So many people were affected and so fast. So many couples who were planning their wedding day and were told last minute it couldn't happen. And, so many vendors had to either cancel or reschedule all their summer weddings so far. This happened to Rochelle and Brent. Rochelle and Brent were going to get married at a beautiful venue in Woodland, California. The venue did everything they could to accommodate Rochelle and Brent's wedding. As the wedding date got closer, the statewide restrictions got tighter. They were first told they could get married as long as they don't exceed a guest list of 50. So Rochelle and Brent narrowed down their guest list from 200 to 50. Then the restriction dropped to just ten people were allowed to gather. So, they cut their guest list to only parents and siblings. Then just two days before their wedding, Rochelle and Brent got the news that the venue was no longer allowed to be open and would have to reschedule. By the time Brent called to give me an update, the wedding planner, DJ, and catering company all had to reschedule as well. Brent asked if I would be willing to move forward as they decided to get married at Rochelle's Parents' house in Napa, California, instead. I typically don't do backyard weddings. But in these unforeseen circumstances, I just wanted to do anything I could to make their day. And so I agreed to photograph their now intimate wedding. My goal was for Brent and Rochelle to have the most beautiful photographs from to remember this day for generations to come. 180

On the day of the wedding, I arrived at Rochelle's parent's home, along with my second photographer Mark, around 10. Because this was now going to be a backyard wedding, I wanted to get there early to scout the area and find some sweet spots to photograph in Napa. Well, let me tell you something — this was not your average backyard wedding! When Brent called and said the wedding would be at Rochelle's parent's house, he thought it would be fun and a surprise to not tell me that her parents live on 1600 acres in Napa Valley! When Mark and I pulled up to the ranch, we both said, "You've got to be kidding me!" Out loud. At the same time! We then see Brent standing there, welcoming us with a huge grin on his face. The view was breathtaking, and we were at a loss for words. wedventuremag.com

183

Shortly after, the florist Fig & Vine arrived. It was so good to see another vendor there to help make the couple's day a little sweeter. When we saw Rochelle that morning, she couldn't hold her tears back. You could see and hear her sincere gratitude in her, "Thank you for still coming." My goal is always to capture the most beautiful moments I can for my couples. But this day, in particular, I wanted to go all out for this couple! We just wanted to make sure that even though right now feels like chaos, something beautiful could still be documented and remembered.
