about us Wedventure Magazine is all about those wild at heart couples. The couples, like you, that spend their Saturdays hiking high into sharp pine forests and their nights star-hunting in the desert. For those whose native language is wanderlust and the only rule is to break all the rules. It takes a village to weave together a magical and meaningful wedding day that reflects your personal experiences and passions. And selecting the right vendors for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration can fray nerves and open the floodgates to an ugly cry or two. This is especially true during a pandemic. We know it has been a very long and confusing year while navigating new rules and restrictions trying to celebrate love safely. Our promise is to continue to do what we can to spotlight the resources you need to plan your big day in a way that is helpful considering these difficult times. Whether that is with a micro wedding saying urban nuptials amongst the glamour and grit of old industrial buildings, or an adventurous elopement exchanging vows out in Mother Nature herself, or while planning your huge wedding celebration for 2021 or beyond. One of the things we love most about the work we do at Wedventure is the advice we hear from talented people in the wedding industry. They’ve seen it all and thrive on making your wedding day as enchanting as possible. So when they speak, we listen and then share it all with you amongst the pages of our magazine. We know there is nothing is like a printed copy of Wedventure. But we hope that the near 300 pages of PNW wedding inspiration to follow this letter will help bring some joy and fun back into your wedding planning. We love sharing epic “I Do” moments and are learning right along with you what that now looks like as we take on this new direction in these uncertain times. Thank you all for your support, especially during the last few months. Be well and be safe. -Cali Clement, Editor + Creative

Kellyn and BJ are big outdoor enthusiasts and spent their summer road-tripping to as many different National and State Parks. Because of this passion, Kellyn and BJ chose the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah for their elopement. The formation of the Salt Flats began at the end of the last Ice Age when the waters of ancient Lake Bonneville began to recede. The flats are a 12-by-5 mile stretch occupying 300,000 acres of Utah’s pristine west desert and is like no other place on earth. A salt crust ranging from a few inches to 5 feet thick forms a perfectly flat, uniform, blindingly white crust as far as the eye can see. This pristine, otherworldly landscape, is about an hour and a half west of Salt Lake City and the nearest airport. “The first time I saw the Salt Flats, I was immediately drawn to its stunning simplicity. A clean slate to create. The stars and moon are so iconic and I wanted to bring that edgy, celestial vibe throughout the day,” explained Sydney Herring, owner of WILDLY IN LOVE. Sydney’s goal is to partner with couples who are wildly in love and seek adventure in all areas of life — especially on their wedding day. The team had so much fun running around with Kellyn and BJ, blaring music from their cars, dancing, and just taking in the beauty that is the Salt Flats. The day was beautiful. And perfect. It all sadly ended as the sun turned into the most beautiful cotton candy sunset.

most important thing — even if the flowers weren’t what you envisioned, or the location changed, or your guest count is small," says Sydney Herring, owner, planner and designer of WILDLY IN LOVE. Sydney continues, “I still have a few 2020 dates available for intimate weddings and elopements! 2021 is booking up quicker than expected due to COVID and 2020 weddings being postponed. However, please reach out, even if your chosen date is happening soon. Things are always changing, including dates, and I would love to help as many couples as possible! If there is one thing I want you to know, it's that I am a huge supporter of getting married this year, whether that’s an intimate celebration or eloping and then having a big celebration on your first anniversary! Even couples who initially really wanted a huge wedding celebration are finding they love the more intimate setting with their closest people. Personally, I would elope this year and have a huge dance party next year!" What Sydney loves most about her job is using her creativity, attention to detail, and passion for adventure to plan one of the most memorable days of your life. Elopements with WILDLY IN LOVE start at $2,800 and intimate weddings start at $3,800 — excluding travel fees for both. She is based out of Washington, D.C., but loves to travel worldwide.

The Groom: Grooms are often overlooked when it comes to their wedding attire. So we flipped the script to celebrate Brady’s
bold sense of style and desire to step outside of his comfort zone. Brady rocked (and we mean ROCKED!) a tan suit and glasses with a crisp white shirt and stellar shoes.
The Preparation:
We selected Discovery Park for Tory and Brady’s elopement recommitment ceremony. This beautiful park was chosen due to its convenient location inside the city of Seattle and the expansive nature. It is a true urban getaway with a touch of escapism — just what we were looking for. Plus, we wanted to ensure Tory and Brady could easily find childcare and enjoy as much of

the day for themselves as possible. Once the incredible floral installation came to life, we saw the proof that you can have an epic elopement in the middle of the city! To us, it shows just how couples can think outside the box regarding their elopement planning. While Tory and Brady made their first stop at Holly Tipp’s Makeup Studio, the rest of our team assembled at the park to set up the ceremony site. Kate from Tapestry Event Co. created the vision for the day, starting with a styled ceremony in the forest, followed by a stroll along the oceanside bluffs, and ending with a first dance at the beach. Sally from Couture Blossoms made our ceremony vision

come true with a sprawling floral install on a commanding Pacific madrone tree native to the Pacific Northwest. Sally brought the most beautiful materials and knew how to ethically attach them to the tree to not cause any damage. Tory and Brady arrived on site a couple of hours later to get dressed and make their recommitment in the afternoon sunshine.

The Bride:
When selecting Tory’s look, we wanted to call attention to her strong sense of independence by choosing statement accessories like wood earrings, a silk scarf, and a braided ponytail. We also highlighted her passion for healthy movement with a simple, sleek, open-back dress by designer A La Robe. We were excited to work with The Dress Theory in Seattle to find a gown that emphasized her form and draped with ease.
Their Day:
The couple shared sweet words of gratitude and lots of laughs under the fragrant boughs of the madrone tree. They shared stories of their “Jim and Pam” style of love, their love of their baby boy, and their mutual pride in each other’s growth. A lifelong commitment to love was present throughout their ceremony, and the day began to disappear quicker than
anyone would have liked. After their ceremony, we whisked the couple away for portraits on the golden bluffs overlooking the Puget Sound. While Tory and Brady ran around the hills with Ashley from Beginning and End Photography, Sally deconstructed the ceremony site and transformed them into the second set of florals to travel to the beach. After some intimate portraits at the bluffs, the couple danced as the sun disappeared behind the coastline. We played their song, “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Haley Reinhart, as they danced barefoot on the pebbled sand and exchanged happy tears. We were all sad for the day to end and could not share enough hugs before parting ways. Our elopement team was honored to play a small part in this couple’s epic story and look forward to being lifelong friends.

STYLED ELOPEMENT - CHRISTMAS VALLEY SAND DUNES, OREGON
The day of your wedding is one of the most epic stories ever told. The dress, the vows, the connection between two people deliriously in love with each other — it all folds into the pages of your life together. Capturing a love story adventure was the mission of photographer Sam Starns during this styled elopement shoot in the high desert of Central Oregon. “I know representation is important. I had wanted to put together a unique inspiration elopement since the beginning of 2020. One that represented same-sex couples and people of color wanting to get married in a regal desert setting,” Sam tells us. Sam continues, “The creatives behind the shoot mattered just as much as the models. It was important to me that people of color were in front of my camera and behind. I teamed up with Shivani of Prima Planning — a beautiful woman of color, Black-owned Noisette Pastries, and our gorgeous model queens of color. While Samira isn’t LGBTQ, Christina is, and her girlfriend was on site to help out behind the scenes!” The team traversed down dusty washboard roads to the Christmas Valley Sand Dunes. Rolling on for 45 square miles, the dunes served as a stunning backdrop to create an intimate space for dining and dancing under a rising moon. Sand, sagebrush, and azure skies played witness to the story of a wild couple embarking on their next adventure. wedventuremag.com

as a straight, cis, brown woman to show that being inclusive is
not just about one thing. It is about orientation, gender preference, skin color, body type, and so much more. Putting this shoot together really opened my eyes to how non-inclusive so many wedding and event industry sectors are. The biggest struggle I found while planning this event was that, on the one hand, I didn’t want someone to feel like they were being tokenized. On the other hand, they were exactly who we wanted to be represented and for the purest intent. This shoot only speaks further to how we, as a

Sam Starns is an adventurous elopement photographer that
helps free spirited and fun couples craft enthusiastic elopement days in dramatic places. She is a big advocate for couples who want to elope in the great outdoors. She doesn't want anyone to feel like she felt on her wedding day when in their heart, they know something like an elopement is more their style. “As a white woman with her own set of privileges, I’ve always strived to be inclusive. But it’s uncommon for an adventurous elopement portfolio to be widely inclusive when the outdoor industry isn’t all

that diverse. And that says nothing to the fact that behind the camera, vendors of color are drastically underrepresented as well. Creating a shoot that showcases people of color and the LGBTQ community helps create a safe space for everyone to enjoy the outdoors and have an adventure elopement. I hope to just be a small part in helping all feel represented. Everyone deserves and belongs in the outdoors, and should be seen. I also feel representation and inclusivity in the wedding industry can also affect much broader change than one day of matrimony.

REAL WEDDING - WHIDBEY ISLAND, WASHINGTON

HOW DID YOU DEC IDE ON WHIDBEY ISLAND WEDDINGS FOR YOUR VENUE? We knew that we wanted to have a classic Pacific Northwest vibe. So it made sense to look at venues that were on one of the amazing islands that the Seattle area has to offer. Being outside was very important to both of us as well, and as soon as we saw the dinner table that The Wayfarer offered, we were sold.
WHAT WAS THE THEME/VIBE OF YOUR DAY? WHAT INSPIRED YOU? A Pacific Northwest and an Elegant Vintage Farm vibe is what we were going for. Again, we wanted to give our guests the classic Pacific Northwest experience of traveling to an island by ferry for a weekend away celebration. The Wayfarer provided the vintage farm setting with the farm on the property being from the early 1900s and being surrounded by large trees. We also hired a local farm-to-table caterer who only served Pacific Northwest fair sourced directly from the island.
WHAT THREE WORDS BEST DESC RIBE YOUR WEDDING DAY? BEST. DAY. EVER. As an event planner, I have attended and planned many different types of events and weddings. I can hands-down say that this was the most enjoyable event I’ve been to. It was so rewarding to create such a special day side-by-side with my husband. To be able to see our vision come together in every way we could imagine was just breathtaking. On top of all of that, having our friends and family from near and far be there was incredible. The support we felt was unforgettable.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE DETAIL FROM THE DAY? This is a tie for us. We loved our ceremony and sitting down at one family-style table with all 80 of our guests for dinner. The wedding ceremony was prepared by Fallon’s uncle, and he put so much love and care into every detail. We were so lucky to have someone like him to seal our marriage in such a unique ceremony. We are still getting compliments on how emotional and heartfelt this part of the wedding was. Then, to sit down with all of our friends and family at one table in a communal dinner was something to never be forgotten as well.

to include your guests. The couple invites their guests to pass their wedding bands around before their vows are exchanged. Each guest warms the rings with their hands while giving a blessing, prayer, or well-wishes to the couple. “During our wedding ceremony, all our guests — including the bridal party — passed our wedding bands from person to person and gave us well wishes for our marriage. It was such a cool, unique moment to see everyone we love to take part and then at the end to be able to place the ring on each other’s fingers. It was powerful.” -Fallon + Dave

ANY ADVIC E FOR OTHER C OUPLES GET TING MARRIED?
Remember the day is about you and your significant other coming together as one, and nothing should take away from it. It truly is a special day that you will always remember. And, don’t skimp on the vendors who will leave you with a lifetime of memories. Items that are only useful for one day are fun, but being able to look back at your wedding photos and video is something that you will never regret. Our photographer and videographer ran all over the place between both Airbnbs while we were getting ready separately and then around the venue, which was no easy task. They both did such an incredible job at capturing every moment so that we can truly relive the day by looking back at the photos and the video. We were on the fence about hiring a videographer, but now we couldn't imagine not having that piece as well!

Almost three years ago, full of the excitement that only comes from a new beginning, I had my first day as a videographer at Oregon State University. Little did I know, my now-fiance would be having his first day at Oregon State just two weeks after me. Even though we had yet to meet, we were already sharing our first experience. We both moved across the country to a city where neither of us knew anyone. For both of us, it was a leap of faith that we hoped would advance our careers. Neither of us ever imagined the cross-country move would result in a love story that we plan to tell our grandchildren someday. The universe doesn't always work quickly, and it took some time for us to connect. When our paths finally crossed in December 2017 at work, I was so drawn to

Alex's confidence and just the way he treated everyone. I went on this trip with a work-only mindset. After we returned to campus, I immediately told my coworker, "WOW. I want to date him. He is everything!" A few months later, Alex popped down to my office unexpectedly and asked for my number. I remember being so excited and shocked that he was interested, especially after not seeing much of him for months. What started as "just friends" quickly turned into "best friends" and, from there," just a step to "forever." On a brisk November morning, Alex got down on one knee at Smith Rock State Park and asked me to marry him. Unable to contain our excitement to celebrate our love with family and friends, we dove headfirst into wedding planning. Not even another cross-country move could slow us down. Alex accepted

a new job as the athletic director at Western Carolina University. We said goodbye to the city and state where we fell in love and moved to North Carolina. It was challenging to turn the page on our lives in Oregon. Without it, we would have likely never found each other. It's where we made some of the most special memories of our lives. And the place where I said "yes." Two weeks before we moved, we went to Bend one last time, just to soak up the last few bits of Oregon's beauty in a city that was so dear to us. We often talk about bringing our kids here someday to show them all of our fave spots and the place where our forever began.
Wedventure Tip: Get married in a place that is meaningful to you. This might be the place you first met or where you went on your favorite date. Or maybe it's the vacation spot where all of your favorite memories originate. Take it as an opportunity to share some of your love story with friends and family. It may just be the beginning of a family tradition where your kids - and their kids - choose to get married too!
After packing up our memories and as many bottles of Pinot Noir as possible, we boarded a flight to Charlotte. With so much to look forward to, including the wedding I've spent my whole life dreaming about, we were perpetually smiling. Then, the entire world shut down in March. Our wedding plans were set for August 8, 2020, in a small town on Lake Michigan near to where I grew up. I felt lucky to snag a date at a brand new barn venue set to open this summer. However, when May rolled around, we realized that getting married in Michigan 78

did not seem realistic, given the number of COVID-19 cases in the state and the related restrictions. We then looked into options in North Carolina — we called this Plan B. Here businesses were starting to reopen, and cases remained low compared to other parts of the country. As a bonus, we are only two hours from Alex's family, and many of his groomsmen lived in the state. When I found, fell in love with, and secured a venue 25 minutes from our new house, it felt like the change of plans was meant to be. This was where we were starting our new chapter, and the venue was going to allow everything to go as planned. So, why not? We switched our entire plans, again, and sent out invitations for that same August 8 weekend.
Wedventure Favorite Detail:
During late summer, you will often encounter lots of butterflies at the top of South Sister. As you can see, Katie and Alex got to experience this gorgeous phenomenon. Over the years, butterflies released at wedding ceremonies were a symbol of new beginnings. While we disagree with this practice due to its environmental impact, we love the symbolism behind the tradition. And to experience it in the wild made it all the more magical. One month away from our date, we were excited but nervous about those we love traveling to attend. When we reached out to a few friends to check-in and quickly learned that many were not comfortable with it and were most-likely not attending. This was when the harsh reality hit us. The shiny, glamorous wedding day bubble that I had been living in exploded. We concluded that it was simply not a safe environment to have our wedding due to the pandemic. It didn't feel right asking the most cherished people in our lives to come together and celebrate us

when they might feel uncomfortable doing so. We could not imagine the thought of one of our guests getting sick or fearing for their life on our wedding day. Together, we made the tough decision to postpone our celebration So, all of that brings us to Plan C. The most important thing for us and something we have held onto through everything that has happened, is that we want to be married. We want to be husband and wife. And, while we certainly wish we could have said our vows in front of family and friends, we didn't want to wait an entire year. Yes, it was hard to let go of what I had envisioned our day to look like while replaying our wedding songs over and over the past nine months. But sometimes, life doesn't go as planned. I will admit I have felt so defeated and angry when thinking about all the effort of planning and re-planning I have done.

That was until I saw Ely Robert's post about an elopement giveaway on top of South Sister in Oregon. It stopped my Instagram scroll in its tracks, and I lit up again with the once-so-familiar wedding day excitement. To elope and get married in the state where Alex and I met and fell in love would be — and was — a dream come true. We didn't worry about who was there. We didn't think about the virus, the plans, the flow of the day. It was just the two of us saying "I do" in the beautiful place where it all began.
Wedventure Tip:
This team of elopement vendors works together to create elopement magic in and around Bend, Oregon. There are truly hundreds of magical locations within this Central Oregon area. So whether it's the top of South Sister, by the Deschutes River, or on one of the many trails, lakes or camps here, Ely Roberts Photography, Mike Hiatt Media, and their team of trusted wedding

creatives will help you pick your locations and plan the logistics behind getting there. They literally take the stress out of planning your adventurous elopement from afar. You get to arrive, looking amazing, holding the most beautiful florals and Ely and Mike will be there to capture every moment for you to cherish for years to come.
The South Sister Hike:
She is Oregon's third-highest summit and is the highest summit, 10,322
feet, in Oregon that can be reached by a non-technical trail. But make no mistake, this trail is not easy. It gains about 5,000 feet of altitude over approximately six miles to the summit — and the last part of the trail is extraordinarily steep. The trail starts out in a relatively dense forest of fir and hemlock. As you climb, the forest starts to open up, and wildflowers become more prominent. At 8,800 feet in elevation, the Lewis Glacier base is a gorgeous spot to take a break and grab a few photos.

"The Pacific Northwest is known for its lush green landscapes. When I tell other wedding photographers I'm from the PNW, they make some kind of comment about how green it is. roar we were all hoping for. Take the micro-wedding option as a chance to splurge! Because you have fewer guests, you can wow those that are attending! Upgrade your florals, change up the catering from buffet to plated, or maybe book the venue you have always been eyeing. And if you don't already have a videographer hired, book one immediately! Leann and Ryan had been on the phone with Rick numerous times throughout quarantine to go over the different plans to best execute their wedding day. Options such as postponing to 2021 or eloping were on the table. In the end, they decided on a micro-wedding on their original date. With fewer guests than planned, the wedding was still a hit! Leann and Ryan plan to have a full wedding celebration next year, hoping to celebrate with all their loved ones. And what might be seen as a clichĂŠ, the choice to stick with their original wedding date showed more resiliency as a couple.

Idaho is known for having the best potatoes. But did you know Idaho offers complete fresh farm-to-table events as well? It does. And this vendor team set out to introduce it at the new venue, Roost, with a gorgeous scenario that will make all your wedding day dreams come true! The vibe was romantic, fresh, local harvest in feel. Erin at Dreamer Events hand-selected each local artist and vendor that embodied the spirit for the event. We featured elements every bride can sink their teeth into, and every guest will walk away talking about. “I was beyond impressed with her skillset: punctual, organized, poised, influential, intuitive, hard-working, creative, and just a really, really nice human. She was the first to arrive, and nine hours later, she was the last to leave. Throughout the day, she masterfully orchestrated the various vendors. She was extremely hands-on to help set, tweak, fix, move, clean — all while remaining calm and composed,” said Mona Lyman, Roost Owner. Located just a short 30 minutes drive from downtown Boise, the ROOST is surrounded by acres of family-owned farmland. PHOTOGRAPHY THIS SPREAD: DENISE + BRYAN wedventuremag.com

To complement ROOST’s views and build off the romantic local harvest theme, we incorporated hand-built tables and curated stone vessels for the centerpieces. The jewelry was designed by a custom jewelry designer and gemologist using repurposed stones. The guest wedding favors and the groom’s cufflinks were made by a concrete designer and jeweler. Farm fresh florals, corner market veggies, and live chickens added the finishing touches. It was magical in every way. Even the bees stopped by the table to partake!

Let's start with a simple word of advice. If it's not the wedding day you envisioned, and you feel disappointed, then it's okay to reschedule for another time. Don't settle if your heart's not in it. You will only have regrets and look back negatively on your big day. But we want you to know that it is one hundred percent still possible to have a beautiful and meaningful wedding celebration during the pandemic. Below are some tips to combat a few of the big 'moving forward with the wedding during COVID' concerns couples are facing.
Backyard or Private Property Wedding Venues
You might have the perfect venue for your intimate wedding and not even know it! Think of all the spaces at your current home or maybe it's where you grew up. Consider which areas have meaning and why. It could be under the tree that held your first tire swing. Or the incredible views off your in-laws back deck. Maybe it's where you first introduced your families to each other. The perfect spot to say your vows could be extra special because of the history the space originally held for you. Another plus side to booking your backyard wedding is it allows for an opportunity to splurge on all the other areas of your big day!
To Dance or Not to Dance? That's the Question!
What's a celebration without music? Seriously, music sets the tone to any event and even helps to tell your story. We say go for it but with some precautions! We recommend that all dancing take place outside, wearing masks, with extra space between all dancers not living in the same households. People will still have fun, and the extra space will allow everyone to see your killer moves! wedventuremag.com

Make sure to take some time to work out how you two want to proceed with your wedding plans. Then work on what precautions you need to make that vision happen. And be sure to communicate openly with your vendors and your guests along the way. The result is bound to be unique, life-changing, and an event the two of you will never forget. The best advice we can give: Enjoy every moment!

We are part of the wedding industry because our passion lies deep in cultivating joy, love, and celebration. Our hearts go out to all of our couples whose weddings have been impacted this year. As small business owners, navigating uncharted waters while trying to support our couples has been challenging. But we are determined to create joy in the midst. These are the words from a kind, giving, and remarkable group of wedding pros that teamed up to gift one engaged couple a full elopement package. They wanted this couple to experience some wedding joy after their original wedding plans were impacted by COVID-19.

The design aesthetic was romantic, European-inspired, and ethereal. It was meaningful. “Marissa and Aaron stood together under the loafing shed at Faber Farms on August 1, 2020, taking that giant leap in life. As Marissa read her vows. I looked around at the teary smiling eyes that filled their space. There’s a certain type of joy you only get to experience a few times in life. And at that moment, I felt it right along with them! Congratulations, Marissa, and Aaron! Your love is beautiful!” said Psalm Oines, owner of Love Looks Like Photography.
From the Bride, Marissa: I would describe our wedding day as carefree — in a good way. I trusted the creative team that had gifted us this beautiful day. They had everything planned perfectly for us. On my wedding day, I wanted to not worry

about a thing, with only Aaron on my mind and to enjoy and cherish every moment with him. I seriously will never forget that feeling or moment of our eyes meeting as I walked down the aisle towards Aaron. The ceremony was my favorite part of the day by far. During the pandemic, I would advise couples to still celebrate on their original “wedding day.” Yes, your plans got canceled, but you are alive, healthy, and hopefully hanging out with your person throughout it all. Play games, have deep conversations, and get to know each other better — there’s no better time than now. If you can’t wait to be married, then go for it! Plus, I think it’s going to be so cool to tell our grandkids one day about crazy in love we were with each other. So crazy that we decided to get married in the middle of a global pandemic! Not many people can say that, lol!

From the Groom, Aaron: I would describe our wedding as a day where we were overflowing with blessings and
showered with love. It was so great to have it all planned for us and not have to stress about the details. The vendors were incredible! Literally each and every one of them. We felt soooo blessed with everyone’s talents. Every vendor was so warm and loving, and we truly felt it. It was awesome to work with such talented people that are also so genuine. My favorite part was definitely the ceremony. It felt so surreal, and it was plain beautiful. Worship and the sermon hit me really hard. And of course, seeing my lovely bride walking towards me...ooh wee! It truly was a once in a lifetime moment. I’m so glad for this opportunity. We would have just went to the courthouse and waited to celebrate until next year. Which means we would have missed this special celebration. We will forever be grateful for the unexpected blessing and will cherish it for the rest of our lives. As for the pandemic, I say don’t stress about it, and it will all work out no matter what you decide. There will be obstacles in life, and things won’t always pan out the way you thought they would. But you just have to stay strong and move forward. From our experience, just make the day extra epic when it does happen. And have fun!
About the Venue: Located in Mt. Vernon, Washington, amidst lush, blossoming local flora gardens, a thoughtfully renovated,
historic white barn provides a perfect, blank canvas for your wedding. Lush lawns, vast open fields, and spectacular sunsets are just a few of the things that make this venue so special. We think the photos speak for themselves. “This weekend was pure magic. What a joy to be a part of such a talented team and gift these beautiful people with a wedding that was perfection despite being far different from the day they imagined. Thank you to everyone involved for your heart, your time, your talent. It is an honor to know you and work alongside you. Cheers to your beautiful future Aaron and Marissa! It was a privilege to watch you begin your journey here.” said Alissa, manager at Faber Farm.

Know what you want and are capable of doing it, but hey, it’s your wedding, and you have to get married, so don’t even dare to do it yourself? They can help you no matter where you land on this spectrum - and they love weddings! Let's talk sustainability: The Teressa Johnson team is very conscious of the beautiful creation we live in. They work with great integrity to source, cultivate, and dispose of with sustainability top of mind. So if they’re foraging, they’re asking, not stealing. When they’re pruning, they’re clipping to encourage growth. And they never use floral foam. When Teressa was asked about this particular wedding, she said, “This weekend. This place. These people. These vendors. Still processing it all a day later, the way one does after a really spectacular wedding.”

Talking with Love Looks Like Photography about COVID Restrictions : Oh man, working within the
COVID restrictions is definitely tricky. Working within the guidelines while still trying to maintain the connection and creativity required to capture a wedding day takes an extra level of focus. I definitely suggest having micro weddings, elopements, and smaller, more intimate celebrations at this time. Then, find the creativity and joy with your partner by planning something beautiful while focusing on what matters to you most. Focus on what you can do instead of the restrictions. You can always plan small now, and go big later. Make a plan, have a backup, and maybe even a backup for your backup. Seriously. Knowing you may have to let some aspects go every step of the way. Get creative, and try to still have fun with it! That said, weddings carry so much significance and meaning for each couple, and I completely understand how hard it is to let go of important elements. But by resetting your expectations will definitely make the planning process more enjoyable. A few positives of planning for a smaller wedding, from my point of view, is that it opens up your location options. And your timeline can be arranged around the prettier light of the day, which will only enhance your photos. Plus, if you like, you can include your dog! A few tips: Due to all the rules constantly changing, I’d encourage couples to be flexible with how their day will look. Be ready to make the necessary changes as they come, keeping in mind the real importance of their day. Most of my weddings have been postponed to 2021. If you are planning your wedding for next year, know that 90 percent of couples are also doing the same, which means weekends are filling up fast. So, make sure to reschedule with or find your vendors ASAP. You might also consider hiring your photographer to capture your smaller elopement or intimate wedding now, and also for your larger reception celebration later. If there is one thing I would ask is to please follow the guidelines given by your county. We, as small businesses, are required to do so. I recently had to cancel photographing a wedding because the couple refused to follow the guest count regulations in their county. It was a tough call. This is my job, so it really hurt financially. But I have a responsibility to do my part to keep others safe — as well as my family and myself. Please be upfront with your photographers, and feel comfortable to discuss your real concerns and expectations. Know that we really care, and we are truly all in this together. 142

The two locations featured in this styled elopement are located on the Mckenzie Scenic Byway. The byway is only open a few months a year during summer and early fall due to weather. This styled elopement is bursting with life, love, inspiration, diversity, and adventure. The location showcases a unique and dramatic landscape of the PNW that is often overlooked. The Dee Wright Observatory is a lava stone observation at the McKenzie Pass Summit in Oregon. Built entirely with lava stone by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935, the open shelter observatory is the McKenzie Pass Scenic Byway’s highest point. It offers visitors a perfect vantage point to view the expansive Cascade Mountains through strategically placed lava tube viewing holes. How cool, right?! There’s also a half-mile interpretative trail through the field of lava rocks that make this such a unique Central Oregon attraction.

LIKHÂ (n) act of making or producing something. To create something through intelligence and skill. This gorgeous disco biker inspired elopement shoot was created by The Likhâ Workshop — a creative retreat for photographers. We asked the ladies creating the majic at Likhâ to explain their vision for the shoot, and here's what they shared: “This was one of three styled shoots for our recent elopement themed workshop. When we started designing the mood boards, we knew we wanted three distinctly different sessions. The disco biker theme was definitely our favorite one. It combined edgy and glamorous with just enough funk to make it completely original. Our color palette was really the driving inspiration when it came to styling details. We focused on including lots of metallics, blacks, pops of berry-hued reds, and a ton of sequins and sparkle. There are little pieces of each instructor in the details, which made this shoot extra personal. We really put our creative souls into this session from the hand-painted vinyl announcement to the spray-painted record backdrop.” 176

An authentic wedding shares bits and pieces of the couple, uniquely representing their love, values, and interests. For this romantic, woodsy styled shoot, we chose modern yet timeless and romantic elements. This day took place in a gorgeous Pacific Northwest forest at a recently remodeled A-frame cabin encompassing the ultimate romantic PNW-forest elopement. Every element of this styled shoot fell together organically, as if each candle and floral were meant to sit side by side. Each detail was intentionally designed, planned, and coordinated by Brooke Morgan from Beyond the Date Event Co., and every intimate moment captured by Katie Hernandez of Katie Ann Photography.

The More The Merrier Or maybe not! Though it may seem
that a large guest count is the way to impress, that is no longer the case! Equation made short — the longer the invitation list, the longer the wedding receipt. Elopements and micro-weddings have begun to trend, especially considering the many challenges couples are facing with rescheduling their weddings due to Covid-19. But no virus can stop love, and no wedding should feel like a sacrifice! The entire team behind this shoot are really excited to serve couples during these times. The purpose behind the shoot was to come together and showcase how beautiful and detailed intimate weddings can truly be. Elopements and/or micro-weddings provide couples with the chance to truly embrace this milestone of marriage with their closest loved ones AND host an impeccably designed and authentically detailed event without breaking the bank. We hope that this shoot brings hope and inspiration to couples who are planning their weddings in the midst of the current pandemic, and after. Because if it’s one thing we know for sure, there is no place like the Pacific Northwest that is better for an intimate wedding!

COLLEEN & PARKER
REAL MICRO-WEDDING - MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK, WASHINGTON
wedventuremag.com
209
This micro-wedding is not only beautiful but so intimate and refreshingly real. Colleen and Parker had originally planned to have a very traditional wedding, but because of Covid-19 had to quickly change their plans and decided to host a much smaller celebration. They were going to get married no matter what! "We will have a special day if it's with 10 people or 100," said Colleen. Eloping in the mountains at the coziest A-frame, Colleen and Parker enjoyed their day with close family and plenty of mimosas. Laughter poured out of the cute cabin all day. We had originally planned on lots of bridesmaid bouquets and a beautiful arbor. Of course, our design plans changed once the decision had been made to move forward with an intimate elopement. That's when the idea began to create a flower meadow for the two of them to say their vows. We didn't want to distract from the cute A-frame cabin

but instead added intimacy and beauty to the event. Their day was unique and stunning and nothing short of magical. With touches of terracotta, the massive floral installation not only encompassed the couple as they got married but then provided a cozy spot for the intimate reception and family-style dinner.

Colleen and Parker are some of the kindest people I have ever worked with. And even with all the wedding planning changes that had to occur, they were so trusting of their vendors. Everyone was so happy to be there and grateful that Colleen and Parker could still get married this year despite all of the Covid-19 hurtles. This wedding is a perfect example of a couple getting married because they want to start their forever together instead of creating the perfect Pinterest wedding.

JENNIFER & LOREN REAL VOW RENEWAL - P ORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON

This adventurous couple wanted to renew their vows deep in the forest and create a “room for themselves in nature. Unafraid to get dirty and dusty, they hiked to this spot to be surrounded by trees and to forest bathe while professing their love to each other. And there's almost nothing we love more that two people creating a day all about them to celebrate their love for each other!

Words from Bride, Jennifer:
Over the years, I thought about what my dream wedding would look like. I was raised in the forests of Upstate New York and always felt a close connection with nature. I had envisioned an intimate handfasting in the forest with only the trees as witnesses. But, when marriage equality became a reality in our state, we realized that we wanted to celebrate this historic moment with our loved ones. So, we had a simple but beautiful outdoor wedding, in a local town park, surrounded by friends who had already stood by us and supported us for so many years. I never forgot about my dream wedding, though. When we began to discuss the idea of creating and capturing this vow renewal, I found I barely had the courage — let alone the words — to describe what I envisioned for so long. Yet with a magical combination of talent and creative intuition, this incredible vendor team gleaned enough information from us to create and oversee our dream day. A perfect ceremony came to life with details and beauty that even my imagination had not fully dared to consider! My heart cried happy tears of joy for fulfilling the wedding I always dreamed of having — complete with flowers, photos, and cake! Being a female couple, we’re so rarely represented in the media - especially in the wedding industry. Throughout my entire life, when I’ve looked at wedding imagery or participated in weddings, I’ve always had to make some mental adjustments to see myself reflected there. It’s an accommodation one gets used to doing. Yet, what images do you draw upon when you have almost no role models? I feel passionate that this representation is critical, if not for myself, then for future couples. And we’re honored to contribute in this way.”

REAL ELOPEMENT - CRESCENT CIT Y, CALIFORNIA + BROOKINGS, OREGON

Everything about this elopement was an adventure. It all started with Meggan and Chris flying in from Kansas to Oregon They trusted their wedding photographer, Riley Jean, to help them choose an adventurous elopement location that neither she nor they had ever been to. And once it was all said and done, it was precisely what they had envisioned it to be. They got to say their vows in the gorgeous Redwoods of Northern California and explored Oregon’s magnificent coastline. Meggan and Chris had been to the magical Redwoods once before, on their first-ever trip together. Remembering the magic from that trip, they knew that was where they wanted to say ‘I do.’ They said their vows in the Jedediah 228
wedventuremag.com
Smith portion of the Redwoods. Afterwards, they hiked about two miles down an incredibly steep slope (with CAKE!) to catch some views along the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor in Brookings, Oregon. This scenic corridor is known for its craggy bluffs, secluded beaches, and offshore rock formations. It’s definitely one of the top 10 areas to explore in Oregon as the views alone will not disappoint. The entire elopement was all about their adventurous spirit and celebrating all of the reasons they fell in love. They even got lost in a portion of the Redwoods and just kind of hiked around, enjoying the scenery until the trail loop put them back where they started. wedventuremag.com

Words about the day from Meggan & Chris:
When we first got engaged, we immediately
agreed that we wanted to elope. Neither of us was interested in the idea of a big wedding and instead wanted to do something private and meaningful to us. We wanted the day to be stress-free with our only focus on spending the day together doing stuff we love. We actually stayed along the Oregon coast on our first vacation together. We also drove down to California to explore the Redwoods. It’s just such a surreal and magical forest that we thought it would be the perfect place to say our vows. We didn’t realize how much things would change within just one week. So we are very thankful we were still able to get married that day and not have to really compromise much planning due to COVID.

BRIANNA & RYE
STYLED WEDDING - SWAN FALLS, IDAHO WRITTEN BY KALENA KENDELL
A blend of the modern wedding culture and the exotic, far-away places of a destination wedding without the need of a passport, and this styled shoot offered the best of both worlds. International wedding planner Kaloni Jensen, owner of Cherry Creek Events, brought to life Old World Egypt in this wedding styled shoot located in Swan Falls, Idaho. Utilizing the wild desert terrain, the bride and groom were able to step out of 21st century Idaho into 3,000 BC Egypt, surrounded by the sagebrush, sandy hills, and lush river valleys of the Snake River Canyon. Photographer Yelena Tsioma beautifully captured the event’s ambiance. Photos were taken during the golden hours of both morning and evening, adding a naturally romantic, warm, soft light to the images. The jewel-toned color palette combined with the natural desert tones and textures offered guests, and most importantly, the bride and groom, an opportunity to visualize Egypt around them. Geometric patterns and shapes played a substantial role in the design. The layout of the ceremony and reception locations were set in geometric patterns — a touch of detail meant to honor the nearly 5,000-year-old concept of geometry used by ancient Egyptians. To continue the nod, a hexagon arch was included as well as wire geo shapes for the table. 236

wedventuremag.com wedventuremag.com wedventuremag.com 237
The added presence of the snake, Creamy, and Clyde the camel added to this exotic theme’s adventure. After all, it’s not every day you have a 7-foot snake and an 8-foot camel at a wedding. The exotic animals offered a unique element to this already dreamy wedding experience. It truly was a day saturated in color, history, and timelessness, celebrating the individuality of love and romance.
Stemming from a recent passion for family history, after receiving her DNA Test results, designer Kaloni's Egyptian heritage inspired the wish to stylize a photoshoot in this theme and celebrate her family history culture. This styled shoot perfectly represents the influence of Ancient Egyptian roots in modern culture besides it being part of Kaloni's ancestry. “As I've studied my family history, I've come to learn and appreciate on a more personal level all the foundations of society set by ancient Egyptian Culture. It's such a part of everyday life! I feel inspired and honored to come from such roots.”

Are you having to cut your guest list due to COVID restrictions? Now that you have fewer guests, wow them! Use that extra budget to instead splurge on your wedding details! Take your dĂŠcor rentals up a notch or talk to your florist about boosting your blooms. Serve a farm-to-table plated meal instead of a buffet. Or consider including exotic animals at your event such as Clyde the Camel.

STEPHANY & JUSTIN REAL WEDDING - MCKENZIE BRIDGE, OREGON
Stephany and Justin were married last June at Loloma Lodge in Oregon. Their wedding had a magical Pacific Northwest vibe, mixed with a glam camping theme. Loloma Lodge is located right next to the crystal clear McKenzie River and is home to lush ferns and large pine trees. The lodge was the perfect spot for Stephany and Justin’s family and friends to stay for a weekend of celebration. The ceremony was set among the forest, with rustic wooden benches for the guest’s seating and a beautifully adorned arbor created by the talented Portland, Oregon florist, Revel Petals, with eucalyptus, garden roses, and wildflowers. The nuptials were performed by Central Oregon Officiant, Wendy Duncan Ministries.
Wedventure Favorite Detail:
Remember the details that matter most: Your guests! Because this was a smaller intimate affair, the couple had the time to take photos with each and every guest during cocktail hour. As well as a joyful group photo! The reception in the woods was set with rustic wooden tables and bench seating. Fresh eucalyptus acted as table runners. The tables were completed with antique books, terrariums, and metallic votive candles for ambiance. Guests enjoyed margaritas and local street tacos from local Bend, Oregon favorite, El Sancho. Followed by a stunning wedding cake created by Dreamin’ Desserts, featured a gold drip, blue watercolor buttercream, and more fresh florals. wedventuremag.com

The evening continued with dancing and spending time fireside indulging in cigars, as well as the s’mores bar. As the guests departed back to their cozy cabins on the property, they left with an engraved compass to use on their future adventures. It was a wonderful day in the forest celebrating Stephany and Justin. Bree Denman, Owner of The Indigo Bride, shared with us, “Stephany and Justin found Loloma Lodge online and fell in love! They are from Michigan and knew that they were not going to visit the venue before their wedding. So they hired us and chose our partial planning package to help them plan the wedding from afar. And even though they never even saw the venue before their wedding, it all came together flawlessly. They wanted a forest wedding that highlighted everything they loved, like delicious food from a Bend favorite

El Sancho, and eco-friendly vendors like Revel Petals. Revel uses local, in-season blooms and never uses floral foam. They also had guests sign their unique guest book, a hand-drawn tree that they would later frame and hang in their home, and compass favors for guests - engraved with their initials and wedding date. They wanted the day to be all about celebrating with loved ones. Every chance they got to soak up that time together, they took. We loved creating such a beautiful atmosphere for them to enjoy a stress-free, fun time with friends and family.
Wedventure Favorite Venue: There is so much to love
about Loloma Lodge, starting with its history. In 1887, during the land rush of the Northwest, a claim was made for land that included the 14 acre property that would become Loloma Lodge. In 1928, the log cabin was constructed along with three out buildings – the Peeling Barn which is now their outdoor stage, the Carriage House which is now the lounge, and a small one room living quarter which is now the main office. In 1932 the 3,000 square foot main lodge was constructed. The riverfront cabins were built in 1966. The current owners purchased Loloma in 2017 and updated the property while bringing back its original beauty.

LITA & JEAN-KHRISTOPHE REAL ELOPEMENT - VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK, NEVADA
254

255
Valley of Fire State Park is world-renowned for its 40,000 acres of bright red Aztec sandstone outcrops nestled in gray and tan limestone. Valley of Fire State Park contains ancient, petrified trees and petroglyphs dating back more than 2,000 years. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset 365 days per year. "We basically had Valley of Fire all to ourselves. Lita and Jean-Christophe love nature and wanted it to be the focus of their wedding. Lita seized the day to be carefree and took her shoes off to run through the sand in her dress. After their sunset ceremony, we drove their convertible up and down the road through the red rocks capturing amazing images. Lita and Jean-Christophe were so down to earth, and the day was so much fun," said Colorado-based Wedding Photographer, Sunnie Heers, about the day.
About Sunnie Heers Photography: Sunnie's photography style is inspired by film
photography and all its earthy, grainy emotion. Her editing style is full of moody tones, warmth, light, and 256

earthy colors. Weddings with Sunnie start at $3000 and come with 8-10 hours of photography coverage. Elopement packages start at $1000 but must have fewer than 15 guests in attendance.
Wedventure Tip:
One of the questions we hear a lot from couples is how many hours of photography coverage is enough?
Since this is most likely your first wedding, you probably have no idea what you will need. You will want to be sure that all the important moments are covered but may not want to have the entire evening on the dance floor covered, for example. Eight hours is the most often chosen photography package. It typically covers your getting ready and first look photos, your ceremony and reception (even if they are in different locations), and dance floor shots. However, if you have a gap of time between the end of your ceremony and your reception, want a receiving line/table, or are hosting two ceremonies, we recommend a 10-hour package.

BORI & RON
STYLED ELOPEMENT VANTAGE, WASHINGTON Alice and Moss is a Portland, Oregon based elopement photographer. Alice and Moss Photography was born out of love and respect for nature, folklore, and how it felt to connect with the elements. Alice strives to recreate that same feeling through her photography, whether it was standing in the ocean amazed by its vastness or embracing the forest’s peaceful silence. Elopements with Alice and Moss. start at $1000. When Alice was young, she loved to visit the Wild Horse Monument near Vantage, Washington. This sculpture of 15 wild horses is titled “Grandfather Cuts Loose the Ponies” and captures a mystical spirit from a time when real wild horses roamed the steppes. And this styled elopement caught that magic, especially when Bori and Ron volunteered because they wanted to renew their vows.
Wedventure Tip:
Just like for a wedding, you’ll want to plan ahead for the required applications and licenses. If you’re hiring an experienced person to officiate your wedding, they will likely be well-informed on particular procedures. However, it’s essential to ask whether your officiant has participated in prior wedding ceremonies in the same region you are getting married. Rules can vary widely from county to county and state to state. For instance, in Oregon’s Marion County, the officiant can only use blue or black ink when filling in a marriage document. PERMITS AND PASSES: If you are eloping in a national or state park, there will likely be some permits and passes you need to apply for. It will vary by location, so we recommend reviewing the park(s) you are considering and contacting their permit offices to find out what you need to do. The last thing you want is for a Park Ranger to ask you to leave in the middle of your ceremony. Note: Some parks require weeks of advance notice, and some have a maximum occupancy allowed, especially on specific dates.

Champagne or Sparkling Wine?
All Champagne is sparkling wine, but not all sparkling wine is Champagne. There are several types of sparkling wine. The most common: Champagne, prosecco, cava, and sparkling wine from the United States. Champagne can only be called Champagne if wedventuremag.com

it comes from the Champagne region in northern France. A typical Champagne or U.S. sparkling wine is made from a blend of three grapes: chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier. If you see a Champagne or U.S. sparkling wine called “blanc de blancs,” it’s made exclusively from chardonnay. If you see a Champagne or U.S. sparkling wine called “blanc de noirs,” it’s made exclusively from pinot noir. Prosecco is the Italian sparkling wine made from the prosecco or glera grape. Cava is the Spanish sparkling wine made from a blend of macabeu, parellada, and xarel-lo grapes. Eola Hills offers several sparkling wine options that we highly recommend. Cheers!
