about us Wedventure Magazine is all about those wild at heart couples. The couples, like you, that spend their Saturdays hiking high into sharp pine forests and their nights star-hunting in the desert. For those whose native language is wanderlust and the only rule is to break all the rules. It takes a village to weave together a magical and meaningful wedding day. Selecting the right vendors for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration can fray nerves and open the floodgates to an ugly cry or two. We do what we can to spotlight the resources couples need to plan their big day in a way that is uniquely them. Whether that is saying urban nuptials amongst the glamour and grit of old industrial buildings, or an exchange of vows out in Mother Nature herself. Either way, we love sharing epic “I Do” moments. One of the things we love most about the work we do at Wedventure, is the advice we hear from talented people in the wedding industry. They’ve seen it all and thrive on making your wedding day as enchanting as possible. So when they speak, we listen and then share it all with you, our readers. Thank you all for your support in our magazine, and we hope you enjoy our first issue in 2020. -Cali Clement, Editor & Creative P H O T O : E LY R O B E RT S P H O T O G R A P H Y

Let's Talk About the Benjamins
WHAT DOES IT COST, WHY, & WHEN DO YOU PAY BY CATRINA GREGORY
Budgeting isn’t very sexy, but it’s pretty important. Every dollar spent on your wedding is one not spent on your picket-fence future. But before you start stressing about frivolous costs, remember this: Recent happiness studies show that people who invest in experiences are happier than those who put their money into material possessions. And what is a wedding, if not an amazing peak experience? So precisely what are typical wedding costs? Why does it all cost so dang much? This may be your first and only experience working with wedding pros, and the learning curve can be pretty steep. We’ll tell you what you can expect to pay and why, and when you’re gonna have to fork over the dough. And as a bonus, we’ll give you a handy chart for tipping. No one talks about it, but it’s industry standard, so we’ll give you the skinny on whose palm you should grease and when. Here’s the good news: On average, you’ll spend 17% less on your wedding in the PNW vs. the national average. If you’re 100% average (yeah, we know you’re not), your wedding will set you back about $28,000, which is a steal, considering the average Manhattan wedding is almost $78,000. There are a ton of reasons weddings aren’t cheap affairs. And we’ll get into those details, but overall, here’s a little background. wedventuremag.com

cake, event planning, and hair and makeup. We’re using the industry average percentages based on a $30,000 wedding.
WHO TO PAY & WHEN
Let’s assume you’re a bit above average and spending $30,000 on your Northwest wedding. Expect to pay roughly $15,000 in the early phases of planning, as you retain the services of each wedding pro. Why the 50% payment upfront? It’s standard practice.

That’s about 100 guests (legit planners say $300 per wedding guest, all in, is pretty standard). Of course, there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all wedding. So decide which categories are the priority for you as a couple and tweak the percentages to reflect your values.

Whether you are planning an adventurous elopement or a full-blown wedding, know that most photographers base their rates on the number of hours they’re on-location shooting. It’s pretty common for the basic wedding packages to start with six hours of coverage. Destination wedding prices go up from there if you are asking your photographer to travel outside of the area they typically cover. But when you fall in love with an artist’s work, you may see the value in covering their travel expenses to shoot your wedding. And we completely understand. Washington-based photographer and romantic movie enthusiast Emily Keeney offers wedding photography packages that start at $3,500 and elopement coverage starting at $1800. Full wedding weekend coverage and destination weddings with Emily are quoted upon request with her. “Your wedding day is more than an event. It is the celebration of a new family and the marker of a new beginning, with thousands of untold stories waiting ahead. My heart is in capturing that moment and telling your love story with genuine care and an artful attention to detail. It’s an understatement to say I’m involved when I shoot your wedding; I’m invested,” says Emily when describing her work. About this Midcentury Midsummer Night’s Dream shoot: Wedding design in the PNW is often a blurred line of natural meets industrial. Seattle is no exception. The city is rich in its gritty warehouses, boatyards, lumber mills, and workshops. And right alongside is some of the most gorgeous scenery that Mother Nature offers. This shoot blended the two in a lovely, sophisticated yet grounded setting. The overall vision was of natural subtlety, but with some added west coast edge that we loved. The vendors involved in its creation wanted it to feel as if it had just sprung up, like an apparition, slightly haunting, even. They pulled together modern elements mixed with classical pieces like old books and natural textures. And the centerpiece to the day was most definitely the gorgeous lace Sarah Seven dress. Gorgeous perfection.

Gig Harbor wedding photographer, Carley Jayne, offers packages that start at $2500 for 5 hours, which includes an engagement session. Her couples rave that she exceeds their expectations, is a lot of fun and makes you feel comfortable in front of her camera. All of which are important on your wedding day!
The “Why” Behind the Price Before you mentally divide the
photographer’s fee by the number of hours included in your package, remember those hours are only the tip of the iceberg. Often times they will include a second shooter to ensure that every important detail during your day is covered. Then after the wedding, your photographer will cull and edit (which means a lot of data to save and store). But it’s not just the hours. Other items to consider are your photographer’s education and experience, which wedventuremag.com

Wedding planners usually quote an all-inclusive flat rate. Their rates are typically based on the level of service they will be providing, and the amount of time they’ll be working (a whole year of prep or just working the month/week/day-of). Also, how far along you are in the planning process when they are hired needs to be considered. But, the number of guests invited, the size of your wedding party, how labor-intensive your décor will be, and the location could also come into play. For example, is there travel time or an overnight stay involved for your planner? If so, additional charges may apply. About this Corson Building Real Wedding: Nichole and Greg knew they wanted their wedding to feel intimate and cozy with a focus on their guests and great food. Amber, the owner of Rock and Stone Weddings, took Nichole on several venue tours in the Seattle area, but once they saw The Corson Building, it was love at first sight! This venue and its beautiful European-style villa were built at the turn of the century. You feel as if you’re in Tuscany as soon as you set foot through the wrought iron gates and into a secret garden in the heart of Georgetown. All of which make this venue is unlike any other. The Corson Building is also a restaurant, so food is at the heart of their offering. Their package includes a six-course farm to table menu that is beyond delicious, and features produce grown on-site. “While we don’t insist that clients use our preferred vendors, we do love how seamlessly everything comes together when couples trust our judgment. The end result is a team that works so well together. For Nichole and Greg, we started with a design proposal encompassing all key elements for their day. It included suggestions on wedding party attire, invitations, ceremony details, tablescapes, and everything in between. Nichole has a deep love for peacocks and wanted to incorporate them somehow into the design. After having looked at peacock themed weddings on Pinterest, she’d thought they all looked a little tacky. Challenge accepted! In the end, we wove some subtle peacock inspired designs into the overall theme, while still retaining the Italian garden vibes with farm tables and an elegant color palette. All of which complimented her stunning Rue de Seine gown,” Amber explained. “We then got to work mailing out save the dates, building a wedding website and managing RSVPs, and liaising with the Corson Building on day of rentals. As the day drew closer, we finalized timelines, 20

collected day-of goods, and crafted the finishing touches such as custom table numbers. We were, of course, there on the day for set up and styling, and to ensure that the day flowed smoothly. We then packed and cleaned up at the end of the night. If you are looking for someone to remove all the stress from planning and to execute your wedding vision, our 2020 rates start at $7,000,” said Amber. -WV

About this Neskowin, Oregon Real Wedding: The entire weekend of Meg and Adam’s wedding can be described as a carefree coastal adventure weekend! Here’s a sample of their invitation wording that made us wish we too were invited: The 12th will likely start off with a RUN, light banter, a hearty handshake, and some R/R. The ceremony will begin at 4pm and will go until 7:30 - KIDDING. After the ceremony overlooking the ocean, we will head back and have ourselves a STREET PARTY, aka the reception. Bring a sense of wonder, and some rain gear just in case. Sunday the 13th, we’ll see a new day, one where the world has Meg and Adam together in holy matrimony...Also a light breakfast for those interested. The couple wed at the bride’s parents’ beach home in Neskowin, Oregon. They are seasonal residents to the tiny town of Neskowin. “I was amazed at how the entire town was abuzz with anticipation and excitement for Meg and Adam’s nuptials. You will start with your guest count because a per head cost is pretty standard, and many caterers include everything (service/ tip, labor, and delivery) into that price. It makes a big difference if the additional costs are included in that per head price or not. Make sure you know upfront exactly what is included with the per head cost and what other services will be added on to your bill at the end of your event.

ingredients to create wedding-day deliciousness. They have a whole lot of additional costs besides the edibles and drinkables your guest will be enjoying. They’re covering transportation costs, sourcing costs, labor (both the servers you see and the kitchen staff), rentals, and the usual small business overhead expenses. The “Why” Behind the Price
Weddings simply cost more than other shindigs. They are oncein-a-lifetime events that come with extraordinary pressure and expectations, which land almost entirely on your wedding planner’s shoulders. Your planner is there to put out every fire, manage every last detail, to be the point person for every one of your guests, and expected to anticipate issues before they happen. Wedding planning pros triple check every detail AND have a contingency plan in place to be prepared for pretty much anything short of a zombie attack. Generally, the pricing for your cake (or dessert table for the non-traditionalists) is based on the number of guests. However, there will be extra charges if your dream cake requires more advanced techniques or materials, like metallics or fondant. Also, not included are delivery, set-up, and other on-site labor charges.

The “Why” Behind the Price
A lot of love and expertise go into your cake, not just ingredients, but the artistry and hours of labor. It’s a multi-day process starting with baking, then frosting, then assembling, to delivering the final product. Your Pinterest dreams might also impact the price since certain looks can only be achieved with more expensive ingredients, materials, and techniques. For example, buttercream flowers are quicker and cheaper to produce than gum paste flowers. Gum paste flowers are made by creating each individual petal, and the labor to create them is the ‘why’ behind how they can easily be $20 per flower. Pure Bliss Desserts’ (shown to the left) tiered cakes are made from scratch using real ingredients and start at $4 per slice ($5 per slice for two-tiered cakes.) But note, the total cost per slice is determined after the final design has been confirmed.

THE WEDVENTURE GUIDE TO TIPPING YOUR VENDORS Tipping is not required but always appreciated and is usually based on a percentage of each vendor’s final bill. It’s not always obvious who should be tipped and how much, so keep this list handy. Tips can vary from glowing online reviews, or, to the most common, cash. To save yourself stress on the day-of, have envelopes prepped and ready to be handed out — cash or check is always welcome. (Continued on the following pages.)

The Caterers: 18 - 20% If your quote includes service charge that probably includes a tip. However, if it isn’t added, plan on tipping the caterer 18 - 20% just as you would at a restaurant. Or you can tip individual staff members: For chefs consider tipping $50 $100 each, and $20 - $50 for each server. The Photographer and Videographer: Depends If the person behind the camera is a hired gun, plan to tip $50 to $200. If there are multiple shooters, tip $50 to $100 per professional. If the photographer owns the business, tipping is optional, but it’s still a classy move. In the end, tip based on your experience and level of satisfaction. If they were exceptional and you hardly knew they were there but yet got all the memories and then some...what better way to say thank you? Hair & Makeup Artist: 15 - 20% While a tip is generally expected, it is not strictly required. Tip your artist the same as you would at the salon. Florist: 10 - 15% Your florist won’t expect a tip. But if you’re tickled pink by how perfect the peonies were, consider a 10 - 15% thank you tip. Band or DJ: 10 - 15% A 10 - 15% tip for the musician and/or band is customary. If you prefer to tip the band members individually, $25 to $50 per member is appropriate.

Transportation: Optional: 15% Some transportation services fees include tip. If the tip is not included, consider slipping your transport team 15% as a thank you. It is not required, but very much appreciated. Keep this in mind: Though tipping at weddings has become more of a custom in all service areas, it isn't mandatory or even expected by most wedding pros. With the exception of the catering staff and possibly the venue, tips are considered a pleasant surprise by almost all vendors. Another way to tip is to leave positive reviews for your favorite vendors on sites like weddingwire.com, theknot. com, etc. Bonus points: ask your vendor for their fave place to leave a review for them and place one there.

INSPIRATION FROM OUTSIDE THE PNW
Arizona's Southwestern Style “My inspiration for this shoot came to me as I was taking a solo road trip through the desert. Growing up in Arizona, I have always had a huge appreciation and love for the desert, the southwestern style, and all the amazing history that comes with the southwest. I then had an idea that I wanted to create a shoot that essentially encapsulated Arizona in a super unique and just different way, said photographer Olivia Markle.
wedventuremag.com
57
Olivia continues, “I knew I wanted it to take place in the desert. And I wanted a rustic southwestern feel, complete with authentic Native American jewelry, and anything and everything that would scream Arizona! I told Jennifer of Simple Means Events my vision, and she one hundred percent made it come to life. I couldn’t have been more happy with the way everything turned out!” described Olivia. Simple Means Events exist to help you create the day of your dreams, all while keeping you mindful in the moments and sane in the process. This wedding planning team is Arizona based, but will happily go where ever your wedding and event designing adventures take them. Lucky for us, that means they travel to the PNW! Their team is made up of some of the best magic makers, problem solvers, solution finders, and biggest happiness-making gals in the industry. “We have known and loved each other for a long time. Working together for us is like icing on the proverbial wedding cake!” Jennifer Cluff, the owner of Simple Means Events, explains about working with Olivia Markle. 58

“Olivia totally trusted me to do what I do best, which gave me free rein to create to my heart’s content. On this particular shoot, she let me know an idea of what she was hoping to achieve and then let me take it from there. If you want an amazing result, you gather the best creatives you can find, give them the overall vision and then let them run with it. THAT is how the magic is created. If you try to control every detail, then it feels restrictive and looses some of its edge. You have to open your hand and let the creativity flow. Olivia did that for me, and in return, we let all the creatives on this team do the same. And just like that, southwest magic was created,” explains Jennifer.

BEING SOC IALLY C ONSC IOU S
A portion of every dress purchase from Grace + Ivory supports Plan International’s “The Girl’s Fund,” which focuses on health, education, empowerment, and community involvement. Bonus? Grace + Ivory has a unique design process we’re totally in love with. Each dress is made-tomeasure. Once you confirm your measurements and design details, they get to work creating a dress that fits you like a glove (vs. buy a standard size and having to get it altered several times like most dress designers). Savana and Trey from Mayfield Photo + Film, as well as Natalie from Natalie Parks Floral & Design, are all teachers that believe in fueling the upcoming generation. Neil from Emerald City Cocktails only uses compostable products, and proudly states they are the only professional bartending service certified by EnviroStars in Washington State. We love their tagline too: Party Like it Never Happened! “When I met with the florist, Natalie, and the dress designer, Tina of Grace and Ivory, to dream up the shoot we were planning, there were a few key concepts that stood out to us. Having a group of passionate vendors that would inspire each other while creating something bright and inspirational that reflected a theme of renewal. We developed our theme and tone of the shoot from there,” Savana of Mayfield Photo + Design explained. Savana continues, “The springtime color palette of light pinks, yellows, and terra cotta reflected that theme of renewal well. We designed a vow renewal for our real already married couple. Isadora is an immigrant to the United States, and as a result, her and Robbie’s actual wedding day was rushed. They did not get to plan the detail-oriented wedding of their dreams, nor did they have much photography documentation of the day. Seeing our couple get to experience the day as it came to life gave a feel to the shoot that was a reflection of why we created this day, to begin with. And working with other vendors that also have a passion for giving back to their communities was a bonus! Wedventure Tip: Are you planning a vow renewal for yourself or know someone who should? Make sure to be following Natalie Parks Floral & Design, Mayfield Photo and Film, and Wedventure on social as we might just be giving one away to one lucky couple!

PNW Vibes with a Touch of Whimsical Flair
68
wedventuremag.com
We are always honored when wedding vendors have Wedventure in mind when creating inspiration shoots together. And this one was no exception. This talented group of vendors wanted to create something that was indeed a representation of what a wedding could be in the PNW. They included beautiful scenery — which, of course, is what couples tend to think about when deciding to celebrate their love here. But they also styled this a bit differently using wildflowers adding bright pops of color. The goal was modern

and simple, timeless yet trendy, with a touch of whimsical flair. And what was created was beautiful, yet didn’t overshadow the natural beauty of the location. We think it turned out so gorgeous but that it is also a realistic option for real couples to recreate for their own PNW wedding. Veronica wore the most beautiful gown and overskirt by Anais Anette that complimented the backdrop with its tiny floral details. The winds where so wild this day, which added an extra magical element to everything. The band played “All I Want Is You,” by Barry Louis Polisar while Veronica and Danial danced under a big beautiful tree. Everyone there stopped just to watch them. It was one of the most romantic moments ever. We wrapped up with couples portraits at Hurricane Ridge during sunset, and it was the perfect end to a perfect day. Love is a gutsy journey. Sometimes it’s like walking through a door and into another world. Other times, it’s dusty boots, wildflowers, and a personalized
wedding cocktail. However it unfolds, stitch a story you’ll remember forever. -WV

A New Era of Wedding
Etiquette BY MAISIE SMITH
Planning an unforgettable wedding involves laughter, love, tears, gin and a whole lot of confusing rules and expectations. Grandma is telling you, “This is how we did things in our day.” Outré wedding websites are urging you to chuck tradition. Your to-do list is 957 feet long, emotions are full-tilt and cousin Meredith wants to bring the guy she met at the monster truck rally last week as her wedding date. Is it possible to have impeccable manners and create the wedding of your dreams? Good manners have nothing to do with being stuffy or phony. It’s all about paying attention to people around you and considering their needs. TIP: Consider these etiquette suggestions more like a living, breathing
set of guidelines rather than hard and fast rules. At the end of the day, genuine gratitude trumps everything. The grand adventure of planning a wedding is all about staying true to your story, your style and the love that brought you together in the first place. Rules be damned.
SO…WHO’S GOING TO PAY?
Money can be a massive issue for engaged couples. Tradition once dictated that the bride’s family pays for All The Things and thus sets the rules. Now? Couples are paying for their own weddings. Families are pitching in. How much “say” people get in the scheme of things
72
wedventuremag.com
is no longer determined by how much money they give. Phew! We want to emphasizes the importance of being totally upfront from the beginning with family. Have the money discussion, already! Set clear expectations before accepting contributions. Five minutes of awkward conversation can save your sanity, your bank account and your relationships down the line.
KEEPING IT REAL
Remember the movie 27 Dresses starring Katherine Heigl? She always put the whims of others before her own as the go-to gal whenever a friend needed help with wedding planning. Cake tasting. Venue scouting. Speech writing. She did it all. A closet crammed full of 27 hideous bridesmaid dresses was her reward. It’s important to keep your expectations realistic instead of going full Hollywood on your bridal party. According to wedding etiquette expert, Cheryl Seidel from RegistryFinder.com, bridesmaids are responsible for purchasing their dresses and accessories, transportation to and from the wedding city, and a gift for the couple. That’s it. They are not on the hook for the bridal shower or bachelorette party. Many gladly take on the role of party planner but remember that it’s a generous act for someone to do so.
The bride should always pay for her bridesmaid’s flowers and consider paying for pre-wedding destination parties, lodging for out-of-town attendees, transportation to and from the venue(s), professional hair and makeup and a thank you gift for each bridesmaid. TIP: Have the money conversation ahead of time with your wedding party. Discuss costs, expectations and budget openly so there are no surprises. Be gracious and give people a chance to decline.
THE TRICKY “PLUS ONE” CONUNDRUM
Let’s talk about cousin Meredith. Do you really want Monster Truck Rally Guy at your wedding? What about your co-worker’s 13-year-old son? Whom you choose to invite depends on your finances and desired wedding vibes. If you have the budget (and inclination) for guests to bring a date, there is nothing wrong with writing “...and Guest” on the invitation. However, you are under no obligation to offer a “plus one” to anyone. Not even Meredith. If one of your guests is in a committed relationship, you should name the partner on the invitation envelope.
GOING DIGITAL
Should you correspond with wedding guests via email? The short answer is…You can email guests about wedding details such as travel, lodging and activities. Create a wedding-only email address to keep things organized. You should not email guests the invitation or a thank you note. Both should always be hand-addressed and sent in the mail.
UNPLUGGED & PRESENT
Watching a wedding from behind a screen isn’t the same as experiencing it. Unfortunately, weddings are not immune from click-happy guests. Many people now snap pics, photobomb vows and post to social throughout a wedding without asking if it’s what the couple wants. (Hey there, Aunt Gladys with the giant iPad.) Strike a thoughtful balance between guests capturing candid moments and truly being present by communicating your unplugged wishes. Ask them to put down their phones — at least during the ceremony — and be more engaged in the experience you’ve spent months planning. Your photographer and videographer will love this because guests won’t interfere with their work. Welcome the use of cameras and phones at the reception and make sure to share your professional 74 wedventuremag.com wedventuremag.com
photos with everyone afterward.

Host a Free-Spirited
G AR D E N PAR T Y WEDDING Saying “I do” is the opportunity to stitch an unconventional story, where the promise of adventure is our thread, the memories we come back with our tapestries. For those gutsy couples who wonder and wander through life and prefer a wide-open trail to a traditional aisle, Oregon does not disappoint. We love the idea of weaving intriguing stories into the smaller details of your wedding celebration. One of those details is Oregon company, 3 Birds Caravan Co. Cory Moehnke, owner of 3 Birds Caravan, was the mastermind behind this garden party. “I really wanted to convey a feeling of relaxed female flower-power, with neutral (but colorful) color tones and lots of natural elements. I wanted to create a strong and fierce yet calm and comfortable vibe. And, of course, include my forever goal: Celebrate everything! I was ready to envelop my love of eclecticism. Also, the venue has a lovely garden with fruit trees that we wanted to showcase. So, we decided on a Free-Spirited Garden Party theme.”
MEE T ROXANNE

and a dainty dressing room. She can be entrusted with a group of your gals to galavant in while getting ready for your big day. Roxanne is so light and airy that your bridal party is going to shine whether enjoying her inside or taking a step outside to get that perfect first-look shot. In the kitchen, put snacks (and champagne, duh!) in the fridge while hair and makeup artists do their magic in front of the large picture window. Relax and get a cup of coffee while you wait for your turn!

A trend becoming more popular this year are micro weddings. Micro weddings are larger in size than an elopement but do not include every single person you (or your parents) have ever met. They are the middle ground between an elopement and a full-blown wedding. Bonus: Due to the smaller headcount, the doors open up quite literally for some alternative and unique destinations and venues. While the average wedding guest count has been dropping, the spending-per-guest price has been increasing. We love that couples are really thinking about their guests' experience. Imagine what details they will talk about, how the event made them feel, and what they will share with others after they leave. wedventuremag.com
81
Infuse your own personal tastes into your reception. But also consider what your guests eat and not just what the two of you like. For example, hire your favorite restaurant or food truck chef to curate a dining experience for your guests versus the standard choice of beef, chicken, or fish. The same applies at the bar. Creating custom cocktails are fun, but serving what your guests enjoy will really make the party. The same goes for your wedding parties. Rather than trying to narrow down your closest friends to all dress alike and stand at the altar with you, honor them in other ways that have more meaning. Consider ditching traditional toasts where your bridal parties talk about the two of you. Instead, the two of you give a speech to honor the people you love most and thank all who came to celebrate with you. Plus, your friends will thank you when they find out they don't have to wear the dreaded bridesmaid dress or tux.

Day After Bridal Portrait Sessions On your wedding day, you most likely won’t have two to three hours to step away from your guests and capture all the amazing golden hour portraits you have been dreaming of. An excellent solution is a day-after bridal portrait session. It’s another day, scheduled after the wedding (not always literally the day after), where you get dressed up again, hit up some amazing locations, and capture those amazing portraits. Seattle wedding photographer Sarah Anne offers these incredible day-after bridal portrait sessions. She says, “It takes the pressure off and allows for great photos at golden hour. You won’t be worrying about the time, or your guests, or any of the other million things you have to think about on your wedding day. Plus, you’ve already had the big day celebration where your dress (or tux!) was in perfect condition. Now is the time to be adventurous and embrace all that nature has to offer!” Sarah says a day-after bridal portrait session is perfect for you if the following rings true: ›› A rainy wedding day. ›› You don’t want to take away time from your loving guests. ›› You’re down to get your dress a little dirty for the sake of adventure. ›› You want to get all dressed up just one more time! ›› You want to spend more time with your forever-person and get some awesome shots along the way. -WV

WAYS TO LESSEN Wedding Day Stress
86
wedventuremag.com
This wedding just outside of Eugene, Oregon, stole our hearts as soon as we saw it. All of the ways this couple created a day all about them and the people they love was beautiful. Creekside Farm & Stables created a gorgeous setting for the day. It has one of our favorite ceremony sites with a crushed granite walkway that is perfect for a grand entrance! It is lined with lavender bushes and has several arches that can be dressed up or left as they are. The most special detail about this day is that John officially became Dominic's stepfather. Everyone cried during the ceremony and then again while watching Dom run to his parents after. Those are the moments you want to be captured! To help ensure your day is as much fun as this wedding was, here are a few tips to help lessen the wedding-day-stress: ›› Hire a photographer for your entire wedding, including the reception.

›› Make sure to pay all your vendors before wedding day. Your vendors will be so appreciative, plus, who wants to be paying
you get to spend time with every guest (don't forget your families)! See, you can have both and eat all the cake!
bills instead of celebrating?! And if you are tipping your vendors,

create your tip envelopes beforehand to easily hand them out (or for your planner to hand out) at the end of the night. ›› Spend a few moments together after the ceremony — just the two of you — breathe and take it all in. Look at all the details and all those who came out to celebrate the two of you. ›› Hire a videographer. Almost EVERY couple says they wish they would have after the fact. Do not be one of those couples. ›› Make sure to eat. Enough said. Oh and feed your wedding vendors too. Everyone feels better if they are not hangry. ›› Have your cake and eat it too. Consider a day-after bridal session to capture all the perfect bridal portraits. That way,

SOF T ROMANCE IN THE
“This shoot was inspired by the contrast between desolate forest trees and the textural elegance of autumnal foliage and flowers. The trees seemed to be sentinels, marching in rhythm to a dirge for the passing season and heralding the approaching winter. Nature is my most cherished muse, and so I sought to paint poetry in that dark place, building a textural installation full of life to anchor the design. From there, we added the dress and full ruffle bolero, romantic bouquet, and feast-in-the-forest goodness to fulfill a story of soft romance in a harsh environment. And cheesecake. Don’t forget that yummy cheesecake! Cat of Deus Amor Photography captured the movement and mood expertly, adding in a good dose of drama and fantasy. All of which elevated our set to an otherworldly collision of texture, ruffles, fashion, and flowers,” describes the florist and designer of the shoot, Marisa Ringe of Revel Petals. Predicting 2020 Floral Trends: Expect to see bouquets look more natural and relaxed, and left a little rough around the edges. Florists will be including more unusual foliage, botanicals, and types of greenery. For couples, sustainability will play a significant factor, as more are considering the impact of their wedding when planning it. And for all the eco-friendly wedding florists like Marisa, this could not be more music to their ears! “I think brides do themselves an incredible service by hiring the vendors who inspire trust and then allowing that vendor to interpret the “vibe” the bride is going for. And that includes the principles that are important to them. This allows for unique creativity and outcomes that wouldn’t otherwise happen,” Marisa advises.

A Real Life
Fairytale
A small creek flowing through a grove of trees. Wind gently rocking the beautiful Redwood trees while birds are chirping... This is a ceremony location sure to take your breath away. Vows that began with, “You have taught me how beautiful life is, and to live every second of it...” “We quite literally gathered everyone together in the Redwoods, and it was absolutely beyond anything we could have ever imagined. It was perfect. With crushed navy-velvet tablecloths, twinkle lights and an array of goblets (Anthropologie style), dinner in the forest was a real-life fairytale,” Mackenzie (bride) told us about her wedding in the woods.

Something old, something new... Mackenzie wore her mother's earrings from her own wedding day 30 years ago! She also gifted her bridesmaid's with earrings made from a friend's gorgeous jewelry line, Avery Lee Design (averyleedesign.com). The groom, Dalton, designed both of their wedding rings himself! Mackenzie's ring was then created by a jeweler in San Francisco; Dalton's was created by Bobby Franzetti at Franzetti Jewelers in Austin, Texas.

C E N T R AL OR E G ON W E D DING
I N S P I R AT I O N When you think of Central Oregon weddings, you probably imagine a snowy mountaintop, an elegant woodsy resort, or a placid lake surrounded by flower-filled meadows. It’s true, Central Oregon has an embarrassment of natural riches: mountains, rivers, lakes, and streams, all of which provide a limitless playground and a stunning natural backdrop. The region naturally lends itself to rustic-meetselegant outdoor weddings.
At Wedventure, we aim to inspire adventurous couples planning to say ‘I do’ in the PNW to spark fresh ideas and connect them with just the right vendors. We showcase off-the-beaten-path venue locations and celebrate local talent from our pool of wedding vendors to bring imaginative themes to life. So, when we heard this bride was inspired and planned her dream wedding based on previous weddings we have featured, to say we are thrilled (and honored) is an understatement. (What?! Blushing!)
Wedventure Tip: Serve breakfast for dinner! Emily and Stephen are big lovers of breakfast and brunch, and so served breakfast for dinner at their wedding. They thought donuts would be the perfect dessert and went great with the theme. We couldn’t agree more!
