Van Gogh Experience
Greenwood is basking in the distinction of being one of only two venues in the state chosen for the exclusive “Van Gogh for All” immersive experience, alongside the Lauren Rodgers Museum in Laurel. Running from December 1, 2023, to March 1, 2024, the exhibition promises to transport visitors into the colorful world of Vincent van Gogh, offering a unique opportunity to understand the artist’s life and appreciate his profound impact on the art world.
Lisa Cookson, Executive Director of the Museum of the Delta, expresses enthusiasm, anticipating a regional draw that extends beyond Greenwood. The exhibition has previously been successful in major cities before making its way to Mississippi.
Organized by the Dolores Kohl Education Foundation, “Van Gogh for All” captivates audiences of all ages and backgrounds through modern technology and interactive learning. Attendees can interact with 3D versions of van Gogh’s paintings, explore life-size recreations of his spaces, and step into iconic scenes like the “Café Terrace at Night.”
A notable exhibit highlight is a 12-foot-wide interactive screen allowing visitors to immerse themselves in van Gogh’s masterpiece, “Starry Night,” providing a close encounter with the swirling stars and vivid colors.
Patrons can engage in creating still life and self-portraits through workshops. The exhibition features replicas of van Gogh’s famous paintings, capturing the spirit of his iconic art.
Ashley Farmer, Executive Director of the Greenwood Convention & Visitors Bureau, is excited about the celebration, encouraging visitors to explore other attractions in Greenwood and the Delta.
The celebration extends beyond the Museum of the Delta, with The Alluvian Hotel & Spa offering a special Van Gogh package, including a one-night stay, two adult tickets to “Van Gogh for All,” a 20% discount on cooking classes at the Viking Cooking School, and a unique Van Gogh-themed gift.
“Van Gogh for All” provides a rare and immersive chance to learn about the artist’s life and appreciate his lasting impact on the art world. Operating hours for the exhibit are Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with the exhibit itself being a ticketed event.
