UNIT THEFT Marrickville Police are investigating a break and enter that occurred at a home in Dulwich Hill. The occupants of the unit went to bed around 10.30pm on Wednesday, April 3, only to fi nd that in the morning a bag and wallet had been stolen and the back door slightly ajar. Living history project will fill the void of burnt records BASIL NAIMET

ewtown Public school will be celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2013 and wants past students, teachers or members of the community to share their stories and contribute to the memorabilia. Legend has it that the written records of the school were burnt in an incinerator during the 1960’s. So, to celebrate the anniversary, the school is putting together a ‘living history project’ that will fi ll the void of the missing written records.

Abbey Proud the Principal of Newtown Public school said the project also known as the ‘150 project’ will involve every child in the school. “The children will research local people, places and events, interview former students and recreate historic photos. The project will run throughout the year, with scheduled completion in September,” she said. “It will capture the imagination of the children and connect them to the heritage of their community.” The project will coincide with a digital oral story-telling project that will culminate in the screening of the documentary that the children

are working on. As part of the celebrations there will also be a tour of the school’s buildings and an old-fashioned fair. The City of Sydney Council has given a grant to the school to aid the making of the oral documentary, to be shown at the Dendy Theatre, Newtown in September. After the screening it will be archived at the City of Sydney Council and the school.
