The Federal Government has launched a new $500 million program to help first time buyers to realise the great Australian dream of home ownership. Since January 1, 2020, newcomers to the property market have been able to access the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme, which was one of Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s key promises in the lead-up to the May 2019 Federal Election. Instead of having to save for a 20 per cent deposit, the new scheme provides a guarantee which allows first home buyers on incomes of up $125,000 for singles and $200,000 for couples to only require a five per cent deposit for a home loan without needing to pay for lenders mortgage insurance,
