Close to 300 apartments could sit next to Penrith Train Station as property developers look to fill some of Thornton’s last remaining land.

UPG Lord Sheffield 162 Pty Ltd has lodged a Develop ment Application (DA) with Penrith City Council seeking construction approval for two residential towers at 160-172

Lord Sheffield Circuit, Penrith. The DA for the development known as ‘Mayfair on Penrith’ proposes an east tower that will consist of eight levels and 152 residential apartments.

A similar west tower will have 135 residential units, and both will have open rooftop space, swimming pools, and commu nal amenities.

Each tower will have a mix of one, two or three-bedroom options.

The Statement of Environ mental Effects (SEE) states that a two-storey podium will be included with 14 ground level retail units, including a unit where design provision has been made for conversion to have two split tenancies if needed.

Three basement parking levels will also accommodate 410 car parking spaces, allo cated for residential occupants, commercial and retail tenants, and accessible spots.

Landscaping, public domain improvements and communal open spaces like a community garden at ground level will be included if the DA is approved.

“It is proposed to provide a seated plaza known as the ‘Community Forecourt’ towards the Lord Sheffield Circuit frontage. The proposed design for this space incorpo rates two alcove seating areas, a planter box, and sculptural elements,” it said.

“A ‘zero-depth’ water feature is proposed towards the centre of the Community Forecourt… the potential for this water feature to be programmed with lighting for events or performances will be consid ered through ongoing design development.”

Brickwork, warm concrete, and neutral colour tones are prominent features of the proposed material palette.

The site has been cleared and is currently vacant.

SMART INVESTING WILL ALWAYS PAY OFF IN THE END

Whatever the outcome of the Rugby League World Cup final, key members of the premiership winning Penrith Panthers were always going to find themselves at the summit of the game’s Mount Everest.

While Australia won the final for the third time in succession with Penrith halfback Nathan Cleary prominent in the 30-10 victory over Samoa at Old Traf ford, there were five Panthers representing the Samoans who were the fairytale story of the tournament.

Samoans around the world, including the large community in western Sydney, rejoiced at the performance of their team as they rebounded from a 60-point loss to England in their opening game to progress to the final.

There were five Penrith players – Jarome Luai , Stephen Crichton, Taylan May, Brian To’o and Spencer Leniu – in the Samoan team with Crichton booting the golden point drop goal in the semi-final against England to make sporting history for the Pacific Island nation by reaching the final for the first time.

The Kangaroos had three Panthers – Cleary, Isaah Yeo and Liam Martin – in their starting line-up. Cleary defied some critics to be a key player in the final with three try assists and two tackle breaks.

Having eight of their players dominating on the world stage augers well for the Panthers as they chase a hat-trick of NRL premierships in 2023.

Penrith’s investment in its

playing stocks paid off big time with the club not only going back-to-back with Grand Final wins to secure a fourth first grade title since 1967, but also the under-18 SG Ball Cup, under-20 Jersey Flegg Cup and second-grade NSW Cup compe titions. The club can also claim interstate supremacy, with the NSW Cup team hammering Queensland’s Norths Devils 44-10 in the State Champion ship final.

Despite the departures of star Fijian forwards Api Koroisau and Viliame Kikau, Penrith’s development program is lead ing the pack and the current Panthers squad is already being talked about as one of the greatest teams in the modern era. The word dynasty is now mentioned about the Panthers.
