INNOVATION FOR CBD EXCITING NEW LOOK FOR OLD CHAMBERS Penrith City Council has announced the winner of its design excellence competition to reinvigorate the former Council Chambers at 129-133 Henry Street, into a new commercial building set to revitalise the Penrith CBD. Global architecture firm, Woods Bagot, produced the winning design for the redevelopment, known as 131 Henry Street, following a rigorous Design Excellence Competition and assessment from the judging panel of independent industry experts.

Penrith Mayor Karen McKeown said the winning design offered an innovative architectural solution that responded to the competition brief.

“We are thrilled to start working with award- winning architects Woods Bagot to deliver a highly advanced workplace at 131 Henry Street, which will feature a sustainable design, and activated public and retail spaces for the community,” Cr McKeown said. “The redevelopment of 131 Henry Street will set the benchmark for future city developments and be the catalyst for the revitalisation of the Penrith CBD, alongside Council’s investment in a new City Park and transformation of Soper Place. “The transformation of 131 Henry Street will not only help address the limited supply of A- grade commercial space in Penrith, it will also strengthen Penrith’s role as an employment and service cluster within Western Sydney, creating in excess of 150 jobs through construction and a further 430 jobs upon completion.” The proposed design, featuring approximately 8,000sqm of flexible commercial space, ground floor retail, on- site parking and a building façade that activates both street frontages, incorpo-

rates best practice principles of environmentally sustainable design and is targeting a minimum of 5 Star Green Star rating in line with Council’s ‘Cooling the City Strategy’. Well- positioned in the heart of Penrith’s CBD, this commercial building will offer future occupants the ease and convenience of retail, restaurants and major public transport links on their doorstep, while also being adjacent to the future City Park.

The history of the site will be celebrated through a robust heritage interpretation strategy which includes the reuse of building elements and high- quality public domain features. Banks have been commendably quick off the mark to offer their support in response to the devastating NSW floods, which in our region alone saw the Nepean River at Penrith reach its highest peak in more than 60 years. Broking Breakdown noted that Westpac was possibly first out of the blocks in announcing emergency assistance for its customers impacted by the floods. Most of the other big banks quickly followed suit with a package of measures in response to the record- breaking rain which has had a terrible and often heartbreaking impact on households, businesses and communities. Bank bashing can be a popular pastime, but you have to give credit where it’s due and also

point out how helpful and understanding banks were for their customers during those uncertain times following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a similar range of assistance to customers in response to COVID, banks are now allowing home loan customers affected by flooding to apply for repayment deferrals of up to three months and a similar time period is available for people wishing to defer credit card repayments. Personal loans at a discounted rate with no establishment fee are available for customers wishing to replace damaged goods. Customers with home and contents insurance may also be eligible to receive access to emergency funds and temporary

accommodation under the terms of their policy. There are also measures in place to assist business operators with Westpac announcing equipment finance customers can apply to defer repayments for up to six months. Mark’s Shout... Banks have also boosted their customer assistance teams and added extra claims consultants and mobilised local builders. I would encourage mortgage holders and anyone else with personal or business finance to also talk to an experienced finance broker to assist with your applications. DIRECTOR / LICENSED REAL ESTATE AGENT Greg is a highly regarded businessman in Penrith. Born and raised in Penrith, Greg has insurmountable local knowledge. His father John Taylor started Stanton & Taylor in 1960 and Greg joined the business in 1983 when it joined the First National Network. Greg’s two children have also followed in the family footsteps with both of them joining the team of local real estate experts at Stanton & Taylor Real Estate. Greg is the past President of Nepean, Blue Mtns & Hawkesbury Division of the REI NSW, and the past President of Penrith Golf Club. He is a chartered accountant and in his spare njoys time, he loves to follow the NRL. Greg enjoys contributing to the Armchair Champions podcast where they interview sporting celebrities weekly.
