AND THEY SAID LET IT RAIN. AND IT DID. Well at least over our place. It has been a long time since we had water lay in great pools on the property but still after it soaked in, we still have cracks that new lambs can fall into. The result of this deluge was calls from tenants that had water overflowing their gutters. In Australia this is pretty normal but it can also be normal for a lot of debris to build up in the gutters over long periods which means getting the ladder out and cleaning them every 6 months but I think some of us thought we were not going to get any more so they did not worry about keeping the gutters clean. Sorry guys, but even if you are a tenant you do need to check your gutters at least every 6 months. I will add that my kangaroos love the rain. They have been hiding away down the back of the dam lately but with the onset of rain back they came and each morning as I drive out I am able to receive their salute as I drive out along the drive and they stand there to attention. It puts me into a lovely frame of mind. So with that said it’s time to close and wish you well for the coming week. Phil 0412 355 020

Never before in world history have so many nations experienced such low interest rates collectively at the same time, with more than 20 countries having zero or even negative interest rates. The Reserve Bank of Australia started the new decade with its cash rate at an all-time low of 0.75 per cent – much higher than the likes of Japan and Sweden who both have negative rates. However, most forecasters expect the RBA to reduce official rates further in 2020 due to the continuing uncertainty for the economy, which is also weathering the impact of the disastrous bushfires and now a new international health crisis from the Coronavirus.

While the RBA’s three interest rate cuts last year helped kickstart housing prices and underpinned strong growth in the share market, this has not translated into higher spending by households and economic growth. Unless the RBA board see an improvement in the economy which supports job growth and consumer spending then it is inevitable rates will come down, although the RBA Governor Philip Lowe has noted he is not wanting to see Australia follow other countries and adopt negative interest rates. With so many of Australia’s trading partners having zero or negative interest rates, the RBA may have no choice but to keep cutting

because if they don’t it will push the Australian dollar up and that will have an adverse impact on exporters and tourism. Mark’s Shout: The RBA’s rate reductions (the last increase was in November, 2010, when the cash rate rose to 4.75 per cent) have been helping to boost consumer confidence and home loan customers can be comfortable about the fact interest rates are staying low for the foreseeable future. But mortgage holders need to regularly review their home loans to ensure they are getting the best possible deal. Plant firmly 60cm apart each way and water

Broccoli is very easy to grow and absolutely packed with nutrients, so it’s a must have for the autumn veggie patch. Broccoli is a cool- season crop that thrives in temperatures between 15- 21°C and mature plants can withstand cold temperatures down to -4°C. However, you need to plan the planting time well in our area – if you plant them too late and the plants mature in very warm weather – you may end up with lots of lush leaves but very few heads. So get your seeds sown in seed trays and punnet through February, and keep them away from summer heat until the seedlings are ready to be transplanted in the autumn garden.
