Hundreds of construction workers in Sydney’s north west are building new and improved parks, sporting fields, roads and cycleways. Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said construction was already underway on all 14 projects in The Hills and Blacktown that received a share of $145 million in funding from the Government and local councils as part of the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund (AIF). “At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we acted swiftly to invest in projects that kept people in jobs and the economy moving,” Mr Stokes said. “This time last year we started working closely with two of Sydney’s fastest growing councils to invest in funding to create construction jobs, boost investment, deliver critical community infrastructure and support the delivery of new homes. “The Hills Shire and Blacktown City Councils stepped up to match our $75.9 million in funding which will support the development of approximately 40,000 homes, 115 hectares of employment land and

House prices continue to reach for the sky as we see signs that fixed home loan interest rates are starting to bottom out. Over the past year the median house price in greater Sydney has increased by almost 13 per cent to more than $1.3 million. According to the latest Domain House Price Report, the median house price jumped 8.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2021 with prices rising more than $100,000 in the first three months of the year, the fastest quarterly growth since Domain records began in 1993. Domain’s senior research analyst, Dr Nicola Powell, said the acceleration in price growth was mostly driven by high end homes,
although every region of Sydney hit record highs. While the property market continues to soar, mortgage holders and those looking to purchase their first home or upgrade have much to consider when it comes to interest rates. Since COVID-19 came into world just over a year ago, we have seen many mortgage holders opting to fix their long-term home loan interest rate. But recently St George and Westpac joined the Commonwealth Bank in increasing their fixed rates. National Australia Bank is now the only major lender in Australia with a four-year fixed rate under 2.0 per cent.

With so many lenders to choose from and home loans on offer, finding the right deal for you can be a confusing and timely process. Here’s a guide of what happens when: • Strip-out can take up to two or three days; • Builder does any structural work or repairs water damage, if needed; • Carpenter will make any modifications necessary; • Plumber will ‘rough in’ pipes and drainage. If you’re not moving your bath, shower or vanity, this won’t take long; • Electrician will ‘rough in’ the wiring; • Tiler comes in to prepare the floor and walls; • Waterproofing - your waterproofer will tell you how long the curing process takes; • A built-in bath will be installed after waterproofing. A freestanding bath will be installed after the floor is tiled; • Tiling, grouting and painting is done next. The time will vary; • Shower screen installer will measure the shower enclosure space. They’ll install the shower later; • Vanity and storage cabinets will be installed; • Plumber and electrician do your fit-outs (up to three days); • Shower screen, mirrors and accessories are installed; • Final clean and inspection. HOW WE IDENTIFY RODENT INFESTATION? Rodent infestation can be easily identified as they often leave a trail of urine all over your floor. They produce about 60-70 droppings per day. You can also find your wires gnawed. If you notice rats roaming around your home during daylight, there is a big chance that they are massive in number. Undertaking the task on your own is not only tricky, but can also prove to be treacherous as there is a risk of catching an infection. If you notice these symptoms, you just contact an experienced pest controller immediately to get your home inspected.
