Millions of Australians have benefited from the Federal Government’s JobKeeper program, which has been designed to help the nation through the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses impacted by COVID19 with their turnover reduced by more than 30 per cent relative to the same period last year have been able to access fortnightly subsidies from the Government to continue paying their employees. Sole traders are also eligible for the $1500 JobKeeper payment if they meet certain eligibility criteria. But successfully applying for JobKeeper can make it more difficult for a sole trader looking to secure finance. For those seeking finance for

a residential property, there are a handful of lenders who will consider an applicant on a case by case basis. But no lender has a blanket policy to accept self- employed applicants on JobKeeper. They want to know what criteria the borrower used to qualify for JobKeeper, and they want evidence (usually through bank statements) to show their business is no longer adversely impacted. As yet, our brokerage has not had a single loan application for a selfemployed person on JobKeeper get the big tick from a lender. But don’t bet on being able to do any better by yourself! I imagine being a self-employed applicant trying to line up with one of those lenders examining

your application on a case by case basis would be like playing darts blindfolded. A lot of self- employed people have also probably been too scared to try and get a loan due to the continuing economic uncertainty around COVID, while others are on mortgage repayment holidays from their lender and currently don’t have any reason to refinance. Mark’s Shout The outlook for self- employed applicants currently on JobKeeper who need a commercial loan is more positive. The lenders are a bit more flexible in the self- employed space with their attitude to offering support for such financing.

FOUR WEEK CHALLENGE IT’S TIME TO DECLUTTER YOUR SPACE! By now we are sure you are sick of hearing the word DECLUTTER but has anyone told you where to start or how to execute it? Whether prepping your home for sale or you just need a good clear out, it really is the most inexpensive way to freshen up your home. Besides we figure most of you might be spending more time at home so here is our four week challenge to de-cluttering.

Week 1: Write a list! This will keep you accountable. Start with your car. This will help you appreciate being in a space that feels fresh and new to give you the motivation to tackle the big job ahead. We’d recommend spending this week on your space! Your bedside tables, closet (cull some of those shoes), bathroom cupboards and even your handbags and makeup bag! Change what is immediately around you first to make you feel good about your future decluttering goals.
