NEW HOUSING DELIVERED JORDAN SPRINGS WELCOMES NEW TENANTS Tenants are now moving into 36 new properties in Jordan Springs as part of a social and affordable housing boost for western Sydney. The brand new development has been delivered through the NSW Government’s $1.1 billion Social and Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF). Being a part of the estate in Jordan Springs, residents will be close to the heart of Penrith and have access to transport, shopping, education and employment opportunities making it an ideal location. Minister for Families, Community and Disability Services, Gareth Ward said the program works with the community housing sector to provide support for vulnerable people. “Not only do residents get a quality new home, but they also receive the tailored support they need to help them reach their full potential,” Mr Ward said. “From housing rough sleepers to providing safe and affordable housing, our Government is working hard to deliver better outcomes for those in need.” The homes were developed and

will be managed by non- government organisation St Vincent de Paul Housing (SVdPH).

SVdPH CEO Brian Murnane said they will manage tenancies and provide services under the SAHF. “The organisation is delivering a portfolio of 500 properties across NSW through the program,” Mr Murnane said. “We’re very excited about this project which will provide high quality housing for people on low to moderate incomes experiencing housing stress.”

The SAHF is a key component of the NSW Government’s Future Directions of Social Housing initiative, and is on track to deliver

The Federal Government has expanded and extended a program to support small business with a COVID-19 loans scheme after an indifferent response to the first phase of the stimulus program. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg revealed about 15,600 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) took up loans worth $1.5 billion under the Government’s 50 per cent guarantee on unsecured loans, which was unveiled as a Coronavirus stimulus measure earlier this year. This was well short of the $40 billion loan capacity for the scheme flagged by the Government in April, underpinning the case for another phase of the program targeted at businesses

moving out of pandemic hibernation. The second phase of the scheme starts on October 1, 2020, and runs until to June 30, 2021. The maximum size of guaranteed loans is increasing from $250,000 to $1 million and maximum term extended from three years to five years. The rules have also been expanded to a wider range of uses for the funds, including for investment and business growth. Other changes to phase two of the government - backed program is loans will be provided for purposes other than working capital. Secured loans (i.e. where collateral is presented) will be permitted in addition to unsecured loans, while lenders will have additional discretion

to offer repayment holidays. The extended loan program will also provide SMEs with access to additional finance over the second phase of JobKeeper payments. Mark’s Shout The next phase of the small business loan program should experience greater demand than we had in phase one – due to fewer restrictions, larger loan amounts, the inclusion of secured loans, and longer repayment times. There is an opportunity here for SMEs to secure finance to not just enable them to keep treading water in these challenging times, but to make a difference to their businesses. The question mark is whether SMEs want to take on more debt in this COVID climate.
