NEW ERA FOR LANDMARK PENRITH VALLEY INN’S OWNERSHIP CHANGE Local landmark the Penrith Valley Inn has been snatched up by Redstar Hotel Group, after being on the market for almost a year. The motel is set to undergo a complete rebrand, including soft immediate refurbishments and a name change.

excited to invest in an expanding region like Penrith. “There’s just so much around here, with iFly, Panthers, the Nepean River and eventually the airport, we want to bring back tour groups when COVID restrictions allow us to,” she said. “What’s important to Redstar is that we have destinations where people can not only relax, revive and get away but also to be able to explore the area and this property is in a prime location for that. “The vision is to bring in outbound and inbound groups and work with the local attractions.” The premises have undergone some minor refurbishments as the company begins re-branding. “It’s been a little neglected over the past years but we’ve done a really deep clean of the property and soft refurbishments, repainting and revamping old rooms, we’re completely rebranding,” Ms Bru-Matich said. “We will eventually re- open the restaurant but most likely not during their first year of trade and afterwards will offer special function hire and corporate events.” EDITORIAL CONTACT Troy Dodds • 4722 2998 troy.dodds@westernweekender.com.au

Redstar Hotel Group owners with their family and Ross Sinclair. The Penrith Valley Inn has a rich history within the Penrith community and was originally owned by Ross Sinclair, who also previously owned the iconic Log Cabin, which was destroyed by fire in 2012. Eventually the Inn was sold on to the most recent previous owners, and then placed on the market again last year. Ms Bru-Matich said the company was looking forward to

revitalising the Inn to its former glory and bringing tourism back into the region – during and post the Coronavirus pandemic. “The Penrith area is really up and coming and that property and its location is just stunning, right near the beautiful Nepean River,” she said. Redstar held a special Soft Grand Opening last Friday to celebrate their new ownership. – Nicola Barton

BIG CHANGE COULD BE COMING

One of the nation’s sharpest economic minds has been predicting the Reserve Bank of Australia will spice up Melbourne Cup Day next month with another reduction to official interest rates. Westpac’s chief economist Bill Evans had been tipping the RBA to cut its current record low cash rate of 0.25 per cent to 0.10 per cent at this week’s board meeting. But Evans changed his mind when he realised the central bank was unlikely to act on the same day as the handing down of a delayed Federal Budget outlining the pathway to recovery from the COVID-19 recession. He still expects the RBA to lower rates on November 3, which is not only Melbourne Cup Day but

the date of the much-anticipated United States Presidential election battle between incumbent Donald Trump and Democrat opponent Joe Biden. The RBA once made a habit of adjusting interest rates on Cup Day but it hasn’t done anything since the global financial crisis, when with its last move in November 2009, it lifted the cash rate from 3.25 per cent to 3.5 per cent (remember those rates!). In March this year, the RBA twice cut its official rate to reduce it to the new record low of 0.25 per cent. This seemed as low as official rates would go in Australia but recent commentary from the central bank has changed those expectations.

Mark’s Shout While another cut to official interest rates will certainly provide some welcome relief for mortgage holders, it may not make much of an impact on the economy as a whole. Cutting rates is not the only solution to help stimulate a broader recovery from COVID. We need further investment into the economy from the Federal Government by way of more economic stimulus, infrastructure spending, tax reform and business incentives. This would have been addressed in the Federal Budget and we look forward to going over those measures in more detail in next week’s ‘Broking Breakdown’.
