Doing our city proud They are the two Penrith sisters taking the country music world by storm. Victoria and Barb Baillie have already had a number one single and now the duo, called ‘Baylou’, is headed to Nashville to perform at the CMA Country Music Festival. Before they head to the United States, the girls will be spending plenty of time here at home promoting their new CD, which was released last week. Oarsome event begins Rowing fever sweeps Penrith as prestigious World Cup arrives for the local economy, as well as showcasing the sport of rowing.� Chair of the Regatta Organising Committee, John Boultbee, said it was fantastic to have so many international competitors in Penrith for the event. “We have had a great response from overseas so far, especially considering it is the fi rst time a World Rowing Cup is being held in Australia,� he said. “It is very exciting to see such a high-calibre international field – it will give spectators the opportunity to see the ‘who’s who’ of world rowing race.� Th is weekend the King’s and Queen’s Cup

Interstate Regatta, Australian Open School Rowing Championships and Samsung World Rowing Cup all crown their winners. The largest teams participating in the opening round of the Samsung World Rowing Cup include host country Australia with 62 athletes, followed by China (44) as well as Great Britain (43) and New Zealand (41). Great Britain, who topped the medal ranks at the London 2012 Olympic Rowing Regatta, will line up at the 2000 Olympic regatta course with a record number of nine Olympic medallists, including five London 2012 Olympic gold medallists. enrith is gripped in rowing fever with thousands of spectators and athletes descending on the Regatta Centre for the World Rowing Cup. It all began on Monday when the fi rst phase of the week-long festival got underway with the heats and repechages of the Australian Open Rowing Championships. Later in the week saw the best athletes in the country compete in the fi nals of the Australian Open Championships and Schools Rowing Championships.

Today, Friday, March 22, marks the offic ial start of the main event on the agenda – the Samsung World Rowing Cup. Athletes from no less than 20 countries have embarked on the Regatta Centre to compete against the best in the world. NSW Sports Minister, Graham Annesley, said it was a tremendous coup for Penrith. “Australia has an excellent record in rowing and a world class facility in the Sydney International Regatta Centre, which is widely considered to be one of the best rowing and sprint kayak courses in the world,� he said. “Th is event is a coup for western Sydney and it is expected to generate up to $7 million
