The irony here is that next to nobody actually reuses them, and you end up getting another bag next time you pick up your satay chicken from the local Chinese restaurant or a couple of charcoal chickens and chips for a bit of a weekend feast.
Habits changed too when Penrith City Council rolled out the three-bin system more than a decade ago, with controversy loudly playing out in the background.

Drive around Penrith’s suburbs for a couple of hours with Electric Vehicles in mind and tell me we’re not decades off a legitimate solution to the charging issue.
But both Woolworths and Coles presented a solution: cheap, reusable bags that could be purchased right there at the checkout. Bring more sturdier bags if you wish, or juggle the paddlepops, mince, three tomatoes and a bottle of milk like you’re a circus clown should you wish to avoid paying 20-odd cents for the bag. The point here is not that the change shouldn’t have happened, but the lack of a solution to the created problem for all involved, which just leads to frustration and non-compliance.Comparethatto the roll-out of reusable bags in supermarkets, which was done with a lot more planning and understanding of customer expectations.
And when the Sydney exodus happens at Christmas time or any long weekend for that matter, can we really say we’re at all close to catering for the charging requirements that will be Electricneeded?Vehicles may well be the future. It could be the single biggest environmental change this generation makes, and that is all well and good.
Let’s take a step back for a moment.
Unlike the local takeaway, habits quickly changed. We all now rock up with the reus able bags, half the time running back to the car to get them; still not quite ingrained in our muscle memory.
When the State Government announced it was banning the use of single-use plastics in NSW from June 2022, it forgot about one thing: the humble Chinese restaurant.
It’s all well and good to expect all of us to have a charger sitting in the garage to plug our cars into, and that may well become the norm in years to come.
It is certainly the case with Electric Vehicles (EV), as governments push various targets of ownership and potential penalties for petrol cars, without any real plan for how the day-to-day logistics will work.
Sure, people blew up about bags not being handed out, devastated that piles and piles of the things would no longer litter the bottom of the pantry.
It provided very little in the way of a solu tion, other than to let popular takeaway restaurants sort out the problem themselves.

Sales Executives: Andrew Harris, Chris Middleton, Angela Jevdich, Megan Dunn

Nobody is walking into their local takeaway shop with their reusable bag from Coles and asking them to pile up the plastic containers, which I presume are themselves under threat as the war on plastic continues.
The roll-out of EVs is far bigger and more game-changing than plastic bags or grass clippings, I give you that.
The Labor Government is a little more subdued in its targets, but I’m far from convinced that any of their current plans will win over the wider public.
Every government in Australia has a long way to go before they’ve started to even slightly shift our current mentality.
Sales Director: Chris Pennisi chris.pennisi@westernweekender.com.au

But I’m still yet to hear a legitimate solution for the vast majority of motorists who don’t have off-street parking.
even more cars in the mix as kids get older, and get partners themselves.
As drama-filled as that roll-out was, there was still a solution in front of our eyes: a new bin for food and garden waste.
But the same principle applies: if you create a ‘problem’ while trying to do the right thing, you must also offer a workable solution.

How does someone forced to park on the street charge theirs?
does the couple living in a 1970s-built apartment charge their car?

Back to Electric Vehicles.
Everything from charging stations on tele graph or light poles to communal charging stations in car parks have been floated.
It’s the reality of charging the things that remains the biggest turn-off.
“The prices rose mainly due to the weather, we’ve had a lot of wet weather, so because of the deteri oration and a lot of the crops had failed in the ground, that pushes the prices up in the market,” Mr Vella said.“It’s all supply and demand unfor tunately.”However, the price of most fruit

“Lettuce, it’s been history. $100 per box, over $10 per lettuce. It’s never been like that in history, so it does push people not to buy it anymore,”
A
Though things like petrol prices also had an impact on the surge, he agrees that it was the weather which put many produce items out of reach for consumers.
Mr Vella said.
“They will look after the clients, as much as they can. We don’t want the small, independent grocers to close down.”
Though not ideal, the increase in prices, coupled with an increase in cost of living overall, is set to send many people back to the freezer aisle as they look to keep the bill at the checkout under control.
fter sky high prices for months, consumers have recently seen the prices of many fruits and vegetables drop by up to 90 per cent, as the impacts of the floods diminish. But, with the threat of another La Nina looming, many fear that we’ll be feeling déjà vu sooner than we’d hoped.
With a third La Nina now having been declared by the Bureau of Meteorology, Mr Vella is concerned that we’re set to see prices skyrocket once again.

educating young people about mobile phone usage is no more than a “naïve approach to this complicated problem”.

It is important that you think carefully about who you want to appoint as your guardian. Some people have the same person or people as their Power of Attorney and guardian. This can be appropriate, but the functions required to be carried out by each are very different. For example, appointment of a Power of Attorney might be suitable for someone who is business-savvy and smart with money. But if they are overly emotional, they might not be the best person to make decisions like whether or not to switch your life support off.
Where a Power of Attorney involves appointing a person to look after your business or financial affairs, an Enduring Guardianship is a document under which you appoint a person or people to make health and lifestyle decisions for you if you cannot make those decisions yourself.

The men left the premises and returned home before concealing the knife in a kitchen drawer. It is alleged that the knife was then disposed of in the Nepean River.
While police were speaking with the female occupants of the vehicle, they observed a text message sent to one of the occupants from a male associate depicted in earlier CCTV of the stealing, which allegedly revealed his location. Police then attended Hungry Jacks on Mulgoa Road, Penrith where the 28-yearold Nyngan man allegedly attempted to run from police but was stopped.

Since then, our community has grown and become more diverse. We’ve become more innovative and undertaken a huge amount of revitalisation work in our city centres.
I am excited to share that Penrith City Council adopted a refreshed approach to its brand and marketing at the Policy Review Committee Meeting on Monday, September12 2022.

“It’s also really nice for them to hear a band, because most kids’ shows use pre-recorded tracks.”For singer, Tiffany-Rose Burchett, this is the aspect of the show that resonates most.
The refreshed brand, with the tagline “Positively Penrith”, builds on the well recognised Penrith “P” and Council’s strategic marketing over the last 10 years to drive opportunities, position Penrith as one of Australia’s most liveable, connected cities and an ideal destination for resi dents, visitors, students and businesses. It showcases the adventurous nature of our community, our strong creative heart and the natural beauty that makes Penrith such a great place.
I am proud to say that Council is a leader in this field with our work shifting percep tions about Penrith and what we have to offer, helping to attract investment and create opportunities for our people.
We’ve also seen a commitment to the Western Sydney International Airport and transformative new rail line as well as the development of the aerotropolis. The brand refresh reflects the fact that we’ve lived up to our potential, we are a leader in the Western Parkland City and we will con tinue to deliver remarkable outcomes for our residents and create a positive future for Penrith. You’ll see the new colours and language of the brand refresh reflected in our website and social pages already, but other assets will only be renewed when they need replacing.

The show, called ‘Kaleido scope’, was written by Jordan Springs resident, Lynsey Mackay, who couldn’t be more excited to bring the show back after their first performance in 2019.“Itwas an existing show, and the Sydney Fringe asked us if we could come back again,” she said. The show takes place inside of a kaleidoscope, and tells the story of how the black, white and grey tones try to take all the colour away. But, with the story concluding with the colours being saved, and the tones wanting to become colours too, Ms Mackey said that she hopes audiences can take a positive message from the show.
But, Ms Mackay said it’s the music that makes the show so special.“Weactually have a live band as well, so it’s really nice for them because we have all different styles of music – jazz and blues and pop,” she said.

Adding skyscrapers will basically switch the inhabitants profile from large consum ing families to couples or singles (Thornton goes sky high, Weekender September 16). Is that what the council wants? Is that what the founder families of Thornton want? I’m not really sure. With the current buildings life has significantly changed with more crime and traffic. I don’t see that situation improving any time after 500 new units are delivered. Time to move away.

Affecting 500,000 Australian men and women, Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is when the heart’s upper chambers beat fast and errati cally, which can lead to poor blood flow.
While one in three people with AF remain undiagnosed, Director of Cardiology at Nepean Hospital, Dr Hisham Hallani told the Weekender there are symptoms to be on the look out

Once diagnosed, AF can be managed with medication such as blood thinners, or treat ments such as a cardioversion procedure or a minimally invasive ablation surgery.
“Our main aim is to encourage people to be mindful about their hearts and not to ignore it if they are experiencing any symptoms but to get it checked.”
The appalling scene of Australian Greens Leader Adam Bandt, his Deputy Mehreen Faruqi and many of their followers virtually celebrating the death of our former Head of State, Queen Elizabeth II, within minutes of its announcement permanently puts an end to the myth that the Greens are a “human itarian” party. Their behaviour since the announcement of our Queen’s death – the very same monarch that they pledged allegiance to when they were sworn into Parliament – is more fitting for a University campus politics club. It reveals exactly the true nature of the people we are dealing with here. Rank ideological politics and the abil ity to kick someone while they’re down rules supreme with these people. It is nothing short of despicable the way that Bandt and Faruqi have conducted themselves, in a way that is completely unfitting for a Member of Parliament let alone the Leader and Deputy Leader of a political party in the Australian Parliament. They and the people supporting them should hang their heads in shame. It is completely un-Australian.

South Sydney’s effort to reach the Preliminary Final from seventh spot can not be ignored. There’s no doubt they can produce a try out of nothing almost better than any other team in theButcomp.Preliminary Finals require a few key things: a calm and measured playmaker, a strong bench and a quality kicking game. Penrith wins all three of those battles with ease.
Powerhouse Parramatta winger Maika Sivo had the ball and, as he often does when so close to the line, looked certain to score. But Penrith, despite having an unassailable lead and with the siren about to sound, produced some stun ning defence to keep him out. It showcased the effort plays this Penrith side has become renowned for.
With Penrith almost full-strength and the Bunnies suffering a few injury and suspension setbacks, it’s just all lined up for the Panthers to march into their third straight Grand Final.

Edwards has scored nine tries this year, Mitchell has bagged seven. Edwards has 103 tackle breaks, and 10 line breaks. Mitchell has 88 and nine respectively. Edwards’ average running metres per game is 217, Mitchell’s is

And sure, there’s a lot to like about Latrell. But would you have him over Dylan Edwards?
Those two moments are all the proof I need to be convinced that Penrith will get the job done on Saturday night against South Sydney. Partly because they’re moments that win football games, partly because I don’t think the Rabb itohs do the same in similar circumstances. Penrith are just on another level.

Edwards runs more than any fullback in the competition, tops the NRL in kick return metres and is second in the comp in support
The loss of Tom Burgess and now Siliva Havili will hurt their forward rotation significantly.
I’m far from convinced that the seventh placed Rabbitohs are going as good as it seems. They ran into a Roosters side that finally ran out of puff and lost inspirational skipper James Tedesco in the first half, and a Sharks team that attacked more like a wooden spoon side than an outfit that finished second.

101.Nobody is saying Latrell Mitchell is not a game-breaking player but Dylan Edwards has emerged as a player Penrith simply can’t do without – he just does it without the chest pumping and mid-game push-ups.
The first came just before half-time, when Eels halfback Mitchell Moses attempted to break a 6-all deadlock with a field goal. His shot missed, and Penrith marched down field where Nathan Cleary attempted a shot of his own, which went through. It was a significant ‘mind game’ moment and Cleary won the battle.
The second was on the stroke of full-time.
Souths are banking on the in-form Latrell Mitchell to do something special on Saturday night to help push the Rabbitohs into the Grand Final.
The occasion calls for a tight first half, maybe even a tight start to the second half, but Penrith has been too good this year not to run away with this in the end.
website or Facebook page. I’m not sure who’s to blame here, but we should not have ended up in a position where the main state-based competition gets no TV broadcast and it’s clear scheduling conflicts could have been avoided with a bit of forethought. Radio 2GB will broadcast live from CommBank Stadium on Sunday but won’t actually call the Grand Finals, offering a score update service only. We asked ABC if they’d be calling the games but didn’t hear back.
! 2GB’s Sunday switch: While there was some confusion about the 2022 season sched ule, I’m told 2GB will definitely call the 4pm Sunday game from next year. They’ve called the 2pm game for some years now, which is often the poorer of the Sunday matches.
! Shirts on! The Panthers will release orders for a Grand Final t-shirt very soon after full-time on Saturday night should the team topple the Rabbitohs and qualify for the decider. The shirts will land during Grand Final week, making them must-wear attire if the Panthers are back at Accor Stadium on October 2.
! In his father’s footsteps: Max Jorgensen, the son of former Panthers flyer Peter Jor gensen, has signed a lucrative deal with the NSW Waratahs. Jorgensen is currently in Year 12 at St Joseph’s College and has spent three years in the NSW system representing the Waratahs Academy at U15, U16, and U18 age levels. Waratahs Head Coach, Darren Coleman said: “Securing Max is a positive outcome, not only for the Waratahs but for Australian Rugby, as he is one of the elite schoolboys from the class of 2022 and highly sought after.” Peter Jorgensen (pictured) played 69 games for the Panthers between 1997 and 2001, scoring 32 tries for the club.

! Hadley on deck: Ray Hadley will contin ue his foray back into the broadcast box for big matches this weekend. He’ll be at Accor Stadium on Saturday night to call the Panthers v Rabbitohs blockbuster for 2GB.

! Luai’s media ban: Panthers five-eighth Jarome Luai is understood to have declared The Daily Telegraph a no-go zone as far as interviews are concerned for the rest of the season. Luai was unhappy with a piece written by Paul Kent in last Saturday’s paper and won’t talk to the Telegraph again this year.

! Sad loss of Panther #110. Former Penrith centre Terry Quinn, credited as Panther 110, has passed away. Quinn formed a strong partnership with Ross Gigg at the Panthers in the mid-1970s. He played 60 first grade games for the club. After making two appearances in the 1974 season, Quinn became a consistent first grader in the following three years, playing 15 games in 1975, 18 in 1976 and a further 21 in 1977. He played four games in his final year with the club in 1978. Quinn was battling a long illness and died aged 68.

! Lunch stays on: Panthers will push ahead with a planned Grand Final Lunch for spon sors next Friday even if the side doesn’t make the decider. In fact, the club is following the lead of several other NRL teams and is making the Grand Final Lunch a permanent fixture on the calendar for sponsors and corporate partners, regardless of if Penrith are in the big dance or not.
! On the buses: The club is preparing for a cavalcade of buses to run between Panthers and Accor Stadium on Grand Final Day should Ivan Cleary’s side make the de cider. Given the 2021 Grand Final was in Brisbane and the 2020 game faced COVID restrictions, 2022 offers many fans the first chance to attend a season decider for some time. A record number of buses is expected to be needed.

! Buzz blocks Weekender: Veteran News Corp journalist Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield has blocked the Weekender, as well as some of our writers, on Twitter. On a podcast last week, ‘Buzz’ said the Weekender was too much of a cheer squad for the Panthers. Given Penrith has lost 10 NRL games in three seasons, are on the verge of making their third straight Grand Final, won the SG Ball title earlier this year and will contest the Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup deciders this weekend, all while the Leagues Club has made a strong recovery from COVID, we reckon there’s plenty to cheer about.

While no one can confidently predict if the 21-year-old has another pivotal moment up his sleeve this Saturday evening, he is the man most likely to pull a rabbit out of the hat (no pun intended) if Penrith need some magic to get them across the line.

The rivalry between the two clubs may only be a few years old, but it’s still charged up with plenty of emotion and spice with the two sides having played against each other in three big Finals games over the past two seasons.

When asked by Extra Time on Monday afternoon if he had another spectacular intercept or play left in him, Crichton responded with a grin: “I’ll see what happens, hey.”
His premiership-winning inter cept in last year’s Grand Final will never be forgotten by Panthers fans, and he even managed to pick up a stray ball and streak away and score when the sides last went to war at Accor Stadium back in Round 23.
“It just shows what a quality side South Sydney are. I’m just really excited to match up with them again, really excited,” Crichton emphasised.“We’renot intimidated by them but every team, especially this time of year, have all made it for a reason and they’ve got threats across the park. The interchange prop, who has only played 24 minutes of football in a month, said he’s looking forward to getting back on the paddock and having a huge one against the Bunnies.

While he may not have enjoyed getting torched at training last week, in the end it will probably do the Minchinbury Jets junior and his teammates the world of good as they face a South Sydney side in top notch form.

Penrith will go into this weekend’s Prelimi nary Final as heavy favourites with the book makers and public, however there are some pundits that believe South Sydney can cause an upset especially if superstar fullback Latrell Mitchell is at his brilliant best.

“The coaching staff put plenty of work into us, so I’m sure we’ve put enough work in to feel good and ready for this week.”

Once again, here are my fearless predic tions for this week’s NRL Finals games.
Good luck also to the Penrith Panthers NSW Cup team, who will take on the Canter bury-Bankstown Bulldogs in The Knock-On Effect Grand Final also at CommBank Stadium. The action kicks-off at 3pm on Sunday after noon.Obviously, I’m tipping the Panthers in both Grand Final games this weekend.
The Bunnies had barely finished their game against the Sharks when their fullback Latrell Mitchell fired the first verbal salvo proclaiming; “We’re on the right side of the draw”. Now, no one knows whether Mitchell had his tongue firmly in his cheek or whether he was starting to believe his own hype, but whatever the answer, neither the Rabbitohs or Panthers will find this game easy to win. If the Cowboys go into this one with any sense of complacency because they’ve had a rest and are playing at home, the Eels will pull their pants down and run away with the win. Sure, there are some advantages to playing at home, you play in conditions you are used to, with a vocal home crowd to support you but Parramatta have shown on more than one occasion this season, that they can beat the best, no matter what their form the previous week. The Eels have a habit of playing great one week and totally crap the next. So, using that logic, they’re due for a loss this week. Only I don’t think they’ll lose this one.

yard Big Band, James will perform along side the St Paul’s Grammar Jazz Band and the Nepean High Performing Arts Jazz Band, following workshops allowing them to collaborate on the creative process.

“Sometimes you get on a plane and fly straight over places that are just down the road, so it’s great sometimes to just get in the car and travel a short distance,” he said.
An Afternoon with James Morrison will be on at the Sydney International Regatta Centre on Sunday, October 30 at 12.30pm. Tickets are $65 until Friday, September 30, or $85 thereafter. For more information or to book, visit try booking.com/BYLWD.
“It’s great fun to be there when they get inspired, I say it’s like being there when the lights come on, and it’s really inspiring for me too,” she said.
ames Morrison’s unparalleled tal ent has made him one of the biggest names in jazz music history. But, having started his first band at nine, and began playing in nightclubs at 13, he says it’s always been in his blood.
With three generations of musicians on the stage, James said the show is guaran teed to inspire everyone in the venue.
“So, to pass the music onto the next gen eration, the best way to do it, is to get in volved with that next generation musical ly, whether that’s going to a school, as I do so often, or performing with youth bands.”
J
Despite being known for his collabo rations with big artists such as William Barton, Phil Collins and Aretha Franklin, this early drive to pursue music led him to prioritise educating the next generation of superstars.“Youcan learn so much out of a book, you can learn so much on YouTube these days, but music really is an aural tradition that is passed on by playing with people. All the greatest things I’ve learned are from being able to play with people who were further down the track than I was,” he said.

“I was always keen to do that, but I didn’t think of it as a career, it was more just what I wanted to do.”
“I’m sure a lot of the people in Penrith might come into the city if I’m playing at the Opera House or the State Theatre or something, but it’s great to go to ven ues where those people are, and play for them.”
“Mum says when I was seven I an nounced to everyone that I’m going to be a trumpet player and travel around the world to play trumpet for everyone, to which she said, ‘That’s nice dear, have your dinner’,” he said.

“The experience for the audience, then, they can feel that, they can feel how the young people are feeling, getting this op portunity to do that, they can feel how inspired I am to be there doing that with them, and then of course I’ve got my own quartet too, so it’s a great feeling for every oneTheinvolved.”eventwill also see the relaunch of the Regatta Centre as an entertainment venue. Ê SBS drama ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ has been renewed for a sixth and final season. Season five is currently airing on Thursday nights.
Ê New episodes of ‘New Amsterdam’ are airing Wednesdays at 5pm on Stan.
Ê Channel Nine held their Upfronts last week, an event where they plug their shows for 2023. Some of the new shows coming to Nine next year include ‘Warnie’, a biopic on the late cricketing legend; detective drama series ‘Human Error’; reality series ‘The Sum mit’ where a group of strangers must climb a mountain for money; Kate Langbroek hosted parental dating series ‘My Mum, Your Dad’; ‘Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars’ will see the super chef team up with Aussie business mo gul Janine Allis; hospital observational series ‘RPA’ returns after a hiatus; and ‘Australia’s Most Identical’ is the ultimate search for the nation’s most identical twins.

Ê As rumoured in a previous column, it’s been confirmed that Channel Seven is officially the new home of the Logie Awards from next year. 2023 will mark the first time Seven has been host broadcaster – and first time Nine has not – since 1995. Next year’s Logies will be held on June 18.
Ê Sadly, not in the mix for next year are some of my favourite shows of late. ‘Celebri ty Apprentice Australia’ and ‘Beauty and the Geek’ have been dumped from the schedule. Also not coming back in 2023, ‘Australian Ninja Warrior’ and ‘After the Verdict’ – no great losses there.

Like Sudoku, no single number can repeat in any row or column. But... rows and columns are divided by black squares into compartments. These need to be filled in with numbers that complete a ‘straight’. is a set of numbers with no gaps but can be in any order, e.g. [4,2,3,5]. Clues in black cells remove that number as an option in that row and column, and are not part of any straight. Glance at the solution to see how ‘straights’ are formed.

This week the New Moon and Venus light up your career zone, so utilise your natural charisma to charm oth ers and attract opportunities into your world. Then use your can-do Capri corn attitude to take action. The Mars/ Saturn connection reminds you to be proactive and practical. Preparation is the key. As singer/actress (and birth day great) Julie Andrews observes, “Work hard, apply yourself and be ready. Then, when an opportunity comes, you can grab it.”
This week a friendship, romantic partnership or joint venture could veer off in an unpredictable direction as Mercury reverses through your re lationship zone. Or a work colleague could surprise you by making a deci sion that seems like a backward step. And are you being rather lazy? With Venus and the New Moon both trans iting through lackadaisical Libra, you could find your motivation is missing and your adventurous streak has gone
Aquarians often feel restless, rebel lious and agitated. This week, with Mercury stuck in retrograde mode (until Sunday), you could suffer from low libido, a lack of motivation or just plain exhaustion. The New Moon illu minates your philosophy zone, so you need to slow down and look within as you contemplate, meditate and ruminate. Negotiation planet Venus also encourages you to hold out the olive branch of peace (especially to a stressed friend or colleague).
Bulls are often stubborn creatures, which can put others offside. You can also be jealous, possessive and mate rialistic, as your acquisitive side goes into overdrive. This week Venus tran sits into Libra, which highlights your desire for harmony and balance. So strive to be more adaptable, as other people won’t behave in predictable ways. Smart Taureans will choose compromise over confrontation, di plomacy over drama, and generosity over

Dynamic Mars is marching through gung-ho Gemini, which usually means you’re feeling proactive and are raring to go! But Mercury (your power planet) is retrograde until Sun day. So prepare for a stop/start kind of week, when you’ll sometimes feel as if you’re going backwards. If you are pa tient and adapt to changing circum stances, then you could have a lot of fun, games and general shenanigans along the way. It’s all part of the rich celestial tapestry this week.
when talking and driv ing, as Mercury reverses through your conversation and transport zone. Oth erwise you could find yourself smack bang in the middle of an argument or accident. Slow down! There is much inner peace to be found via activities like meditation, contemplation, yoga and tai chi as you listen to the wis dom from within. With the New Moon and Venus stimulating your domestic zone, cooperation is the secret to a fresh family chapter.
Stylish Librans have a passion for fashion. And this week – with the New Moon and Venus both transit ing through your sign – it’s the perfect time to refresh your appearance via a hot new hairstyle, a makeup make over or a creative wardrobe revamp. But with Mercury (planet of com merce) still in retrograde mode (un til Sunday), watch that impulse buys don’t burn a big hole in your stretched budget. Remember – some of the best things in life are free!
You’ll experience the greatest sat isfaction if you share your goals and dreams with other like-minded peo ple. Collective collaboration is the key. But you need to think long-term and be patient. Do your best to get the bal ance right between being creative and being productive; between having in spirational ideas and making practical progress. Mercury is still in retrograde motion until Sunday, which could dis rupt your daily routine or stir up an old health issue.
AWOL!Becareful
Impulsive Uranus and retrograde Mercury continue to disrupt your work routine, career plans or future aspirations. So this week’s New Moon is the perfect time to revise, reassess and reboot your goals and dreams. Think of creative ways you can nav igate the unpredictable economic landscape, adapt professionally and pivot personally. Draw inspiration from birthday great, singer and actress Julie Andrews, “When one door clos es, another window opens.”
(your ruling planet) reversing until Sunday, expect trav el disruptions, phone frustrations or computer chaos that will test your limited patience. So how can you sur vive Mercury retrograde in a reasona bly sane state of mind? Make sure you back-up all your computer files; allow plenty of time to get to appointments and catch flights; check and then dou ble-check everything; and be incred ibly adaptable. Plus maintain your sense of humour!

You’re in the mood to talk, text, tweet, publish and/or podcast as the New Moon activates your communi cation zone. But with Mercury still ret rograde, make sure you convey your message clearly and concisely, oth erwise misunderstandings are likely. Mercury is reversing through your fi nancial zone until Sunday. So it’s not a good week to buy a new phone, bor row money, make an expensive pur chase or sign an important contract. Instead, be patient and wait.
When it comes to your involvement with a friend, colleague, client, cus tomer, group, club or organisation, retrograde Mercury scrambles com munication and activates your argu mentative streak. The New Moon and Venus stimulate your spirituality zone, so it’s time to calm down and smoke the peace pipe as you compromise and sympathise. Be inspired by birth day great, singer and actress Olivia Newton John, “I believe love is what makes the world go round.”

families to catch up over some tasty Japanese tapas. From there, we headed up to cocktail and champagne bar Nick & Nora’s, which was definitely the highlight of the night. Located on the 26th floor of the hotel, the rooftop bar boasts incredible views across the city. With an Art Deco design and extensive menu, which features drinks like the ‘Seductive Senorita’ and ‘The Honey Trap’, the bar gives off a glamorous post-prohibition vibe. Arriving at 7pm, we scouted out a spot on

and a friend recently got the chance for our very own staycation at SKYE Suites Parramatta, where we learnt you don’t have to travel far to feel like you’re on a holiday.

With high ceilings and a big, open space, the lobby has accents of gold mixed with neutrals to create a feeling of opulence.

After checking out in the morning, we visited local favourite The Shed, which sits just outside the hotel. The food was served quickly with friendly service and we enjoyed some very hot coffee (much needed for the freezing morning) and avocado on toast with cherry tomatoes, feta and pomegranate seeds, which was definitely worthy of an Instagram story. One of the best things about staying at SKYE Suites Parramatta has to be how centrally located it is. Not only is there a range of food options surrounding the hotel, Parramatta Square is a short walk across road where you can enjoy recently opened restaurants like Lilymu, shopping can be done at Westfield Parramatta and of course, there’s Riverside Theatre if you’re in the mood for a show. Overall, if you’re looking for a modern hotel in the heart of the city that comes with all the bells and whistles, you can’t do much better than SKYE Suites Parramatta.
Entering our two bedroom suite we were greeted with an open plan living room and kitchen area. With a Japanese-inspired, mini malist palette, the room feels comfortable and sophisticated.Despitethe large size of the beds, both bedrooms feel spacious. The main bedroom provides access to its own private balcony with a view of the stunning outdoor infinity 25-metre pool below. Needless to say, the first thing we did was sit on the balcony and open up a bottle of wine.

With kitchen appliances, an internal laun dry, Wi-Fi and work nook, the hotel would be a great option for business trips or people who have travelled to visit friends based locally. Dinner for the night was at Japanese restaurant Umaya. With so many delicious sounding options to pick from, it was hard to choose what to eat. We ended up with four dishes, including the classic crispy chicken roll sushi and soft shell crab, which was a personal favourite.
From the moment you walk through the entrance to the hotel, you’ll be left thinking ‘are we still in Parramatta?’.

AFL: Giants utility Lachlan Keeffe and forward Daniel Lloyd have both signed contract extensions that will see the pair remain at the club. Keeffe has played a variety of positions for the Giants over the past few seasons and will remain at the club in 2023 after inking a new one-year deal. At 204cm, he adds enormous versatility to GWS’ list, able to play as a back-up ruckman or key defender, while also showing he can hit the scoreboard when he’s thrown up forward. Meanwhile, Lloyd has also put pen to paper on a one-year contract that will see him remain in the orange and charcoal in 2023. The former carpenter starred in a semi-final for Killarney Vale in the Black Diamond League that Giants assistant Mark McVeigh was watching, booting nine-goals, and ultimately earning himself a spot on the Giants list. Giants General Manager of Football Jason McCartney said the re-signing of the duo was another boost for the club heading into a new era under Adam Kingsley. “Lachlan and Daniel are both important senior players in our group and provide another level of leadership for our young players coming through both on and off the field,” he said.
