ustralia’s largest duckprocessing enterprise Luv-a-Duck will spend $28-million to develop its Nhill production base, cementing its long-term future in the region.

Victorian Agriculture and Food Security Minister Peter Walsh will announce the project, which will create 80 new full-time jobs, in Nhill today. He will also confirm a government investment of $600,000 for the jobs-boosting invest-

ment plan. The project will include Luva-Duck investing $14 million, and contracted duck growers another $14-million. It involves developing a new value-adding kitchen and administration facilities, connection to potable water from the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline, investment in a back-up power generator and upgraded fireservice infrastructure. It will also include the purchase and installation of specialised duck-processing plant

and equipment, a research and development plant for breeding and growing ducks, and an expansion at the properties of contracted grower-farmers.

Jobs boost The project will secure 180 jobs at the company’s Nhill site, create an additional 20 full-time jobs on site and 60 full-time off-site jobs with contract growers. Luv-a-Duck has had a long relationship with retiring Member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty

and Nationals candidate for Lowan Emma Kealy joined Mr Walsh in confirming the Coalition investment in the project. “Agriculture is the backbone of the Lowan electorate and it is fantastic that major businesses like Luv-a-Duck are committing to new jobs, new investment, and a long-term future here in the Wimmera,” Ms Kealy said. “The Nationals have a strong belief in the future of agriculture, and when elected I will continue to work hard to create
