A tiny marmoset monkey steals a random sip from a tap at Halls Gap as the Wimmera-Mallee waits in anticipation for the autumn break. Much of the region is thirsty after a long, dry summer and expectation is growing as the year pushes deeply into April without any sign of heavy rain on the immediate horizon. While the autumn break often occurs in May, many farmers traditionally like the rain to come before Anzac Day. The Common Marmoset monkeys at Halls Gap, meanwhile, are far from fussed about the weather, having celebrated a new arrival, see page 5. Picture: JAMES FIDLER
