ROCK ON: Sarena Scene, left, and Kaitlyn Hall pose with one of the many classic hot-rod cars that featured at the weekend’s Jailhouse Rock Festival in Ararat. People with a love affair with the styles, music and culture of the 1950s and ’60s flocked to the festival, which director Sandra Walker described as ‘absolutely awesome’. “We had 99 percent positive feedback and have already rebooked the five bands for next year. I can’t thank enough the amazing committee and volunteers who worked all weekend and the Friends of J Ward who were just fantastic,” she said. The festival is primed to continue well into the future and organisers have urged people keen to provide volunteer services to email araratjailhouserockfestival@gmail.com. Picture: ANNE MACPHERSON
AXIS wins contract AXIS Employment will run Transition to Work, TTW, separate from mainstream employment services, to help people aged 15 to 21 find their way into employment or education. The contract is valued at between $800,000 and $1-million a year.
Community AXIS Enterprises general manager Colin Barnett said TTW services would provide intensive preemployment support to improve the work readiness of young people and to help them into employment or education. “The service will have a strong focus on helping young people to understand what is expected in the workplace and to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours expected by employers,” he said. AXIS Employment will provide the service to about 300 young people

throughout a Wimmera-Mallee employment region. “We will employ four new youth consultants to provide services in Horsham, Ararat, Swan Hill and Mildura,” Mr Barnett said. “Head office in Horsham will administer the program, which will be offered for four years up to June 2020, with a possible extension to 2022.” Mr Barnett said TTW would complement AXIS Employment’s existing disability employment services which already supported more than 1400
jobseekers in six Employment Service Areas, ESAs, throughout western Victoria and the south-east of South Australia. “Our outstanding performance in disability employment, as one of only two providers nationally delivering five-star services in every contracted ESA, was clearly a consideration of the Department of Employment when assessing TTW proposals,” Mr Barnett said. “We will now employ 77 full-time staff across three programs throughout western Victoria and the south-east of
South Australia, as well as 43 supported part-time employees. “We are proud to be spending more than $10-million annually in our communities – on wages, employer incentives, training and operations. “We are confident our proven service delivery will result in enhanced employment and education opportunities for young people throughout the Wimmera and Mallee.” AXIS Employment will begin delivering TTW services on April 4.
