The Practical Project: Future Bathroom
In the project, I was in the future bathroom group, this is the first time I went to product design studio, the experience makes me meet the new field and people, despite feeling a little bit unfamiliar but still an enjoyable experience. Nowadays, the bathroom is an indispensable part in the space, the bathroom is not only a place for people to use it, but also a place to relax. So, people will continuously pursue a better bathroom design. In the project, future bathroom will focus on some key points : 1. The most unforgettable bathroom experience that I had met ever is in Japan. Last winter vacation, I went to visit one of my friends who studied in Japan, that's why I have the chance to live in a flat. The bathroom system in Japan was very user-friendly and smart, and I feel comfortable when I stay in the bathroom. For example, there are many multifunctional bathroom equipments, the sink combined with the toilet and so on, also the washlet is amazing that you can enjoy it in the winter too, my friend's bathroom just like the right side pictures and there are some research about Japan style bathroom.

We are interested in using high technology to build a space that it can suit for everyone, family members, kids, adult and old people. There is a screen, you can enter each user's hobby of the using bathroom. When you walk into the bathroom, it can set up for you automatically. Or you can use the voice to control bathroom equipment, for example, older people sometimes can't understand how to use a new product or their eyes is not good to see button's name, so I think this may be an idea can let them accept new products and enjoy a better experience.

In the final proposal, we want to more focus on the intelligent mirror, so we cancel to do the automattically shower kits part.

It can mix the hot and cold water inside the faucet, and then come out with water that the temperature what we prefer.
We are going to design intelligent mirror to control faucet.
If mirror can record different user’s habit, it will let user feel more convenient. That’s why we are going to use face ID with the mirror.
This is what the mirror looks like, Lens position & Face ID: We will hide the face Id camera in the middle of the mirror, and then put the reflective film on the surface, so it won’t be seen by the users. (The identified lens will be set on the position where considering user experience. To reduce identified failure problem if more than one people standing in front of the mirror.) (Face Id does not have a video function, networking function, and won’t upload the data to the cloud or the Internet, the -----system only set to identify the face, and link to 11 the faucet to record user experience about the water temperature) How to use the intelligent mirror to control water temperature: Users should stand in front of the mirror, and then stare at the mirror carefully, the mirror will have a change in light to tell you that the recognition is completed. The water will be set at the temperature that you commonly used. Our mirror can install in the shower room or above the sink. In the shower room, every time when we take shower, the cold water will come out before warm water. After your face be identified by the mirror, it will drain the cold water from shower head automatically. This mirror can maximum setting 8 face feature. At the first time using the mirror, water will come out with 40℃ and it will record user experience every time when you use it. And then the water will be set at the temperature that you commonly used. We hope this design not only avoids freezing and hot water from the user but also make people more convenient to use.

What has the GDCP done for me ?
Why do I want to be an artist or designer?
Graphic design is a way to share messages, a designer using creative ideas to communicate these messages through visualizing. It can be for personal commercial and public benefit. The composition and arrangement of the picture, from simple to complex, needs to be meaningfully arranged. To build an idea, the designer need to enrich themselves, exploring inspiration in their daily life and also know more about others feeling, these all help them to communicate with the public in an effective way. Not only to explore the outside world, but they also need to do lots of descriptive and reflective thinking, trying to understand the same thing from different perspectives, these can help a designer as a creative practitioner. In this field, ideas never have boundaries. Through the accumulation of experience, the enrichment of knowledge, and the expansion of vision, I hope that I can constantly break through myself, escape my the comfort zone, learning from doing, constantly give myself feedback and discuss with others and try to make better designs for sure. I sometimes feel surprised, unbelievable, emotional or even resonant when I read a work of graphic design, it just like I had a lesson by a piece. I also hope that my outcome can express some meaning for my audience, bring new pieces of knowledge to them or even make an impact on them. I hope that through my approach to communication way, it can let the public explore see more different aesthetic perceptions, bringing some light spots to the drab life, and breakthrough some stereotypes that they are used to believe, by offering them from different angles. In addition to thinking independently, I also want to express my ideas through physical things. Using a visual way to express ideas can leave something in the world, and someone may know me by my work, and you may get companion by the special way, these all make me feel the sense of achievement. It’s a win-win for me as a creative practitioner.

Scattered ideas are like dots, and then they start to have a connection between each other, after gathering all elements, it becomes the final outcome.

I choose the piece which is my previous work before getting into GDCP is a photography outcome. In the project, I took a series of photo with one of my favorite song’s lyrics to layout as my outcome. This is a project about escape. I was thinking about what skills an ideal designer should have when I was doing the project. The answer was photography and layout skills, that’s where the project came from. After that, I am in the GDCP now. I select the zine project from the first semester, which is a zine about soft toys. In the project, I can choose the subject that I am interested in, this is one of the similarity points between these two projects. The other one is I try to convey the emotion to readers when I was doing the projects. However, the difference is the process, when I doing zine project I try to build a mood board which is using visualize way to show up your ideas about the project, and I do research about first hand and secondary resources that fit in your subject. I also try to find out who will be my zine’s target audience, what are they thinking about, how my zine can have a suitable way to convey to them. Having enough research process makes me get more possibilities to succeed in your final outcome, it is the most different part when it compares to my previous work. It helps me build a stronger outcome by researching process. I can feel that my zine project looks more abundant than my previous one. Even though the final won’t be combined with all the research you have done, the process to make me more open-minded and explore ideas, also bring more -----21 inspiration to my future design works.

Sometimes I don’t really have the clearly group of my target audience, but when I look back to see my previous design work in GDCP, I find out I am more focus on the people whom nearby me, for example my close friends, normal friends and acquaintance. The student’s identity makes me don’t need to limited by clients, so I used to find out some phenomena from my daily life which are creepy, interesting, or have impacted me or I am sick of it. In general, my target audience may have relevance of me in varying degrees, they may have different perception to me or whom meet the problem as me.

My design is more focus on convey my point of view to the people who nearby me, and these usually combine with emotion. According to further results, these makes my experience in GDCP course put more part in communication, include talking with myself and others, and having the resonance between us. Moreover, I think these makes me build confidence on explore what design means to me. In the future directions, I do want to expand the range of my target audience, not only the people nearby me but also explore more specific group, which may makes my design more variety. Also, I would like to find out more phenomena or problems in our society, using my own way to let more people notice or bring them the points which they never think about it before. Keep doing stuffs to create my own style and find out more possibilities in the creative practice field, and the most important thing is always critic and challenge myself.

I really curious what the issue may happen to my generation including me, and I would like to find out and use the communication design to convey to my target audience when I am doing this project. My starting point is my surroundings, and I realize the relationship between human and the place where we live is inseparable. Human is living in a group, so whenever they open their eyes, the connection is everywhere. First, I start to make the brainstorming.

After getting some feedbacks from tutors and peers, I arrange the points that I want to focus from my protential ideas, target audience group and the outcome before the interm crit. My target audience is in the ages from 20 – 23, because I think in the range of the ages, we may face two important moment and need to make the choice. Am I going to continue my study in the Uni? Which major? After graduate, what kind of work will be my ideal job? You may say everyone will meet these kinds of question, it is a normal thing, however I would like to discuss the problem that I found out from our culture background in Taiwan, based on my experience and the primary information that I got from discussing with my target audience. When we look back to our secondary and senior high school, students don’t have the opportunity to choose what the lesson are they interesting in, because the only thing to do in the school is to put attention on the subject which based on college entrance exam. Many people believed that getting into a high standard university can help you get a better job or future. Most of student may enter the university because o f Ta i w a n ' s e d u c at i o n s y s t e m a n d s o c i e t y expectation, this is the reason why my target audience is setting on the ages group which from 20-23, I hope my target audience may have more attention on the issue in there Uni life. We do have lots of freedom in the Uni, so I think students should take the chance to try different elective subjects, also it is a timing to build independently thinking on what you really like. So, these makes me want to do a project about our socirty expectation and people’s real thinking. People used to say anything is a double-edge sword, just like us, you may have two edges, one is to face the outer world, the other is to face yourself.

I n t h e f i r s t v e r s i o n , I f e e l t h at t h e connection between each part still not that clear, I get some feedbacks that they don't really understand what ideas am I going to convey. Also some pages look too monotonous still need to redesign. I try to use 130gsm recycle papers in the version, I love the printing outcome with the paper but I want my zine's pages can be thinner, I think it will feel better to flip through the paper, so I will try the 100gsm in my next version. And I will try to improve these problems in my final version. During doing and printing my first version of the zine, it really makes me find out some problems, for example, saddle stitches layout is a little bit complex than I expected and how to build each page together also is a problem. If I can do the project again, I should -----put more attention on the action plan, 55 because I spend too much time on thinking and synthesizing the ideas about my project, so it was a little bit rush when I doing experiments and design the content of the zine. And if I can have more time to do the project, I want to film my process when the zine was printing and doing bookbinding, also want to the digital one that it can be delivered easier . The reason why I didn't choose to do digital zine is because I want to do a zine that people can really touch it and feel the material In the end of the project, I feel that it still hard to really have a way to make people do not impact by the society, so I hope the zine is an approach to remind people it’s important to know what you really like or want to be.
