Charlie Moore To Host Boat Museum’s Ice Out Celebration

The Two Easters To Make-Believe And To Believe by Robert Hanaford Smith, Sr. Contributing Writer

Coming downstairs from my unheated bedroom on an early spring Sunday morning with the anticipation of a good, special day ahead, my first childhood treat on that day was an Easter basket filled with jelly beans and other candy treats

like a chocolate rabbit and marshmallow baby chicks. On my road to adulthood I came to a greater understanding of the meaning of the Christian holiday of Easter. Not unlike Christmas I expect many New Hampshire residents will observe the day in some manner this year, though some would

tell you the day is no different from any other to them. You only have to look at vintage postcards or read newspapers printed in years past and present to realize that there are two ways of observing Easter. One could be called Christian Easter, while the other is the secular celebration.

Some celebrate the religious Easter exclusively, others stick to a secular observance, while many of us seem to partake of some of both, blending the two, though maybe not admitting the blending. I don’t remember being told in my childhood years that the Easter basket came from the Easter See EASTER on 24

WOLFEBORO - While ‘Ice-Out’ on Lake Winnipesaukee traditionally marks the start of spring in the Lakes Region, it also kicks off the 2021 season for the New Hampshire Boat Museum (NHBM). Scheduled to take place on Friday, April 16, Ice Out will go virtual this year with special guest Charlie Moore, 11-time Emmy award winning TV host. Known as “The Mad Fisherman,” Moore is host of “Charlie Moore Outdoors,” nationally syndicated TV series “No Offense,” and “Bruins Academy” and creator, writer, and executive producer of “Behind the B” with the Boston Bruins. “We are thrilled to have Charlie with us this year,” added Cummings. “This year’s Ice Out is going to be a lot of fun with a live auction, museum updates, music and more.” The virtual event also features See MOORE on 15

NH’s So-Called Investment Experts To The Editor: “New Hampshire State Retirement System ranks last in New England in 2020 annual investment returns!” During a time when the stock market is booming under the leadership of President Trump, and continuing now, under Biden, it is surprising to learn that the New Hampshire Retirement System has posted the worst results in annual investment returns (ROI’s) with relation to other state retirement systems in New England, and elsewhere. The stock market performance during the Trump years in the White House skyrocketed from 18,000 points to over 32,000 + points, raising all sectors. One has to wonder where the money of New Hampshire retirees and active members like teachers, police, fire, municipal employees, and state employees is being invested by the ‘investment experts’ of the New Hampshire State Retirement System? Similarly, the Massachusetts State Retirement System reported a 13.0 % Return on Investments (ROI) for 2020; Rhode Island State Retirement System reported an ROI of 11.87%; Maine State Retirement System posted an ROI of 8.0%; the Vermont State Retirement System earned 4.0% ROI; and the Connecticut State Retirement System boasted a 1.89% ROI. In last place is the New Hampshire State Retire-

ment System with a meager 1.1% ROI ?! Even, NY posted a 3.5% ROI and Pennsylvania reveled in posting a remarkable 11.11% return on investments! Why is this concerning to the taxpayers of New Hampshire? The first place legislators turn to make up for losses is, yes, you got it!, the taxpayer! And, that is exactly what’s happening in NH! Democrat Michael O’Brien (D) Hillsborough-36, (primary sponsor) Democrat Robert Cushing (D) Rockingham – 21, (co-sponsor) and Democrat Lucinda Rosenwald (D) Nashua – 13, (co-sponsor) have introduced legislation (HB 274) to “….require the citizens of New Hampshire to make up for the poor performance of investments by the New Hampshire Retirement Board.” One hundred percent (100%) of the Democrats in the NH House of Representatives voted to support, to PASS, this incredulous legislation while ninety-one per cent (91%) of the Republicans voted to KILL this bill! During similar situations in other states, benefits to recipients have been cut…. a drastic measure, to be sure! But, you don’t ask the average, hard-working, minimum-wageworking citizen to “bail out” the poor performance of ‘investment experts’ (who represent union members’ retirement monies!) when they screw up! I urge Governor Sununu to veto this legislation should it get to his desk. The other option is to seek

“bail-out” money from the newly-enacted $ 1.9 Trillion Biden/ Harris/Pelosi/Schumer - Democrat Stimulus/COVID bail-out legislation just passed in Washington by Senators Shaheen and Hassan and Reps Kuster and Pappas as well as all the other Democrats in Washington. It seems we, in Conservative NH, have joined the ranks of “tax-and-spend” California, New York, and Illinois, to name a few! Nick De Mayo, Sugar Hill, NH.

Jumping At The “Opportunity”

To The Editor: Within hours following the recent violence in Boulder, Colorado, resulting in the death of ten people shot down in a grocery store, certain politicians and media establishments enacted the predictable Rahm Emanuel rules for crisis action “You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that: it’s an opportunity to do things you thought you could not do before”. The usual roster of Democrat politicians jumped at the “opportunity” to promote gun control legislation and immediately blamed firearms for the violence. The early reporting by several contributors to CNN announced a “white man” as the perpetrator but then had to retract that claim when the facts – nasty inconveniences – came out announcing the suspect was See MAILBOAT on 23

Sunny afternoon spring skiing is wonderful. Bria is on Waterville Valley’s White Caps Trail under the White Peaks Express high-speed quad chairlift. The slopes are more quiet on weekdays and especially so in the spring. The ski resorts high in the White Mountains hold their snow longer and hopefully we will be skiing well into April. Check out New Hampshire mountains’ snow reports at SkiNH.com.

The Fat Lady is Singing Winter is over. No April Fooling, winter is over and spring is here big time. Soon the sap buckets will be taken off the Maple trees since it no longer gets below freezing at night. Charlie has begun pruning the blueberry bushes. We got the mountain bikes out and I am riding my unicycle again on our ice free driveway. But I haven’t taken my skis out of the back of my car just yet. There is still snow in the White Mountains. My fingers are crossed for a few more

good outings. I love Spring skiing! Last week a good number of ski resorts stopped spinning their lifts for the season thanks to the rain and the big warm up. The Nordic centers trails have all quit grooming what little snow is left on their trails and most have closed for the season. Black Mountain’s last day was Saturday, the first full day of Spring. They did a terrific job of grooming and pushing the snow around to open a lot of trails. The East Bowl Triple, the Platter

Pull and the rope tow were open. I skied all morning on the soft snow. The snow was soft and there were some bare spots but it was a lot of fun. The uphill skiers were out in force skinning up the mountain to earn their turns too. After skiing Black all morning. I met my friend Ellen over at the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation. We went out for a good hour of kicking and gliding. No wax skis kick well on soft wet snow. Jackson’s has some trails at higher elevation See PATENAUDE on 26

*A FLATLANDER’S OBSERVATIONS ON LIFE

Looking Forward To It? Now that it is April 1st, April Fool’s Day, I am only eight months away from that magical milestone; Full Retirement Age. At least acby Brendan Smith cording to the Weirs Times Editor Social Security Administration. I was born in November of 1955, so my “Full Retirement Age” is January 1st, 2022. As of that date, I will turn 66 and 2 months and will begin to be awarded small monthly increments of a rather large sum of money I have given the government out of my paychecks over the last forty-five years or so. Hopefully, I will live long enough to recoup my investment. It would be nice to reach that magic milestone and then have the option to take one giant payout, but the government knows that I will probably just blow it all at once on something stupid, so they feel, in my own best interest, that it is better that they hold onto it to blow it all at once on something stupid and worry about how to pay me later. In all fairness, I could have started collecting Social Security in 2017 when I was just a mere lad of 62 and had a lot more energy and could stay awake until 9:30 instead of 9pm and maybe have enjoyed this windfall a bit more. But then I would have had to actually “retire” since if I were still working while collecting, I would get penalized a dollar for every two dollars I made over a certain limit, which was something like $13.85. (That may be incorrect, but I don’t have time to check.) So, it was pretty much impossible to collect anything at all, unless of course I retired completely, then I would have the luxury of doing whatever I

wanted with that full monthly stipend of my own money, which I think was something like $96.75. (Once again, just an estimate.) At Full Retirement age, I can make as much money as I want, the sky’s the limit, and I can collect that Social Security check without any penalties. Of course, I will still owe taxes. In all fairness, they won’t tax all my money they are giving back to me, only about eightyfive percent, and that’s only if I am making over a certain amount which is about the same as something like the gross income of the local convenience store between the hours of 1 and 3pm on a Wednesday in the winter during a blizzard (minus scratch ticket sales.) Of course, if I am making in a year about a quarter of what a member of congress does in a couple of months for doing things like figuring out how much of a percentage in taxes I should pay on my massive social security income, then I can ask for those taxes to be taken out in advance. I can also ask to have my Medicare expenses taken out in advance as well (a whole other column) so that I won’t be surprised with a big tax bill when I rush to file my taxes at the last minute the next April 14th. When all is said and done, I should have enough left over in my Social Security check to pay my cable and Internet bill so that I can watch the news and get angry at what is going on in Washington with the latest Social Security reforms and then, like so many other Social Security recipients, angrily post clever memes on social media until two in the morning. (The effects of the lack of sleep alone will make you realize that the Medicare deductions from your Social Security check were well worth the cost of prescriptions you will now need to help you sleep.)

Still, I was smart enough to have invested some of the money that the government let me keep over the decades into other avenues so that when the time comes for me to actually retire, I won’t be totally dependent on whatever amount of my own money the Social Security Administration decides they will give me each month. In all fairness, Social Security is happy to give me even more money a month if I don’t get all greedy and decide I want it all as soon as I turn Full Retirement Age. If I wait until I am seventy, then they will add on eight percent a year and increase my monthly check to an amount that will most likely be worth as much as the same dollars they were going to give me four years earlier. (Of course, in all fairness, they will tax some of that money as well to help pay for my future social security checks.) All in all, I’m pretty sure I’ll still be working full-time for a few years after I finally cash in my golden ticket and begin salivating each month as that check (minus deductions) is due in my bank account. Hopefully, one day in the not too distant future, I will be able, with the help of the few dollars I earned in my thirties, forties, fifties and sixties that I will get back in tiny increments, to be able to finally kick back and relax. So, I am counting down the days till I am eligible to start collecting money I earned decades ago. I’m looking forward to it. (I think.)

MSNBC’s Serial Smear Merchant “Screw up, move up” is standard operating procedure in corporate and government bureaucracies. But in American journalism, the system goes far beyond rewarding incompetence. It sanctifies bias. It promotes dishonesty. It incentivizes malice. Want to get ahead in the liberal media? Just follow this credo: “Spew lies, climb by Michelle Malkin high.” Syndicated Columnist Take the case of professional character assassin Talia Lavin. This week, she published a high-profile feature at MSNBC.com as an official “MSNBC Opinion Columnist.” The hit piece targets a new upstart group of young college conservatives who have broken away from the establishment College Republican National Committee. The students believe that many College Republican chapters have veered far-left on social issues, foreign policy, and immigration. The split mirrors the widening schism between populists and elites in the D.C. GOP. I know many of the leaders of the new College Republicans United organization personally and spoke to the Arizona State University-CRU chapter last year. They are energetic patriots who embrace “America First” and mean it. To Lavin, this is tantamount to “white supremacy” and “Nazi sympathies.” She sounded the alarm that three campuses -- ASU, the University of Arizona, and Iowa State University -- now have CRU chapters. The MSNBC.com headline of her hatchet job blared: “College students are falling in love with white supremacy.” Her proof that the kids are “white supremacists”? Their endorsement from me. Yes, really. Lavin reports: “Operating under the innocuous-sounding name ‘College Republicans United,’ the group claims endorsements by fringe white nationalist figures like Michelle Malkin...” There she goes again! Well, I am indeed an unapologetic nationalist. But newsflash, freaked-out fact-benders: I am brown and the last time I went “fringe” was when I sported bangs (really bad, poofy ones) in 8th grade circa 1984. Labeling everything and everyone she dislikes “white supremacy” and “Nazis” is Lavin’s entire schtick. In 2018, she falsely accused Justin Gaertner, a combat-wounded war veteran and computer forensic analyst for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, of sporting a “Nazi” tattoo she claimed was an Iron Cross. It was actually a Maltese Cross, the symbol of double amputee Gaertner’s platoon in Afghanistan, Titan See MALKIN on 28

For the Left, Bigotry Is a Tool This week, a white man shot to death eight people in Atlanta-area spas, six of them Asian American. According to Atlanta police, the man said he was targeting brothels and blamed the women for his alleged by Ben Shapiro Syndicated Columnist sex addiction. The gunman stated that he had visited two of the spas before and had planned to drive to Florida and target the pornography industry. So far, there is no evidence that the shooter was motivated by anti-Asian animus, making hate-crime charges unlikely at this point. Nonetheless, the establishment media and Democratic politicians quickly began reflecting the lie that the shooting was an anti-Asian hate crime, the latest outgrowth of a major uptick in anti-Asian hate crimes -- all driven supposedly by “white supremacy.” White House press secretary Jen Psaki connected the alleged increase in anti-Asian sentiment to former President Trump, stating that his “calling COVID ‘the Wuhan virus’ ... led ... to perceptions of the Asian American community that are inaccurate, unfair.” Racial grifter Ibram X. Kendi tweeted: “Locking arms with Asian Americans facing this lethal wave of anti-Asian terror. Their struggle is my struggle. Our struggle is against racism and White supremacist domestic terror.” Nikole Hannah-Jones, pseudo-journalist and de facto editor-in-chief at The New York Times, tweeted in solidarity: “I stand with my Asian-American brothers and sisters, just as so many of you have stood with us. I grieve. We must own all of this history -- ALL OF IT -- and determine to fight for a truly multiracial democracy where we all can be free.” This is cynical politicking at best. The same sources decrying anti-Asian sentiment have spent years expressing antiAsian animus in the form of discriminatory college admissions standards: President Biden’s administration dropped a discrimination case against Yale University just a

month ago, clearly thanks to the administration’s position that affirmative action for black students outweighs Asian American success in a pure meritocracy. The same people blaming “white supremacy” for antiAsian hate crimes have militantly ignored the location of the crimes -- largely major metropolitan areas, with a large number of such crimes coming not from white Americans but from black Americans (a plurality of overall violent crimes targeting Asian Americans, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, were committed by black Americans in 2018). The same establishment media sources blaming Trump for anti-Asian hate cheer on the active closing of merit-based magnet schools in New York and San Francisco, thanks to those schools’ disproportionate Asian American attendance: Hannah-Jones tweeted last year that it was “disingenuous” to talk about “specialized high schools being majority POC” (people of color) when referring to Asian Americans. Here, then, is how the narrative works, according to the left: No matter the antecedent to any statement, the conclusion must be that America is systemically racist. When we are discussing Asian American economic success, Asian Americans must be treated as beneficiaries of a white supremacist system; when we are talking about hate crimes against Asian Americans, Asian Americans must be treated as people of color victimized by a white supremacist system. When a white person harms Asian Americans, as Trevor Noah explained, intent doesn’t matter -- animus can be assumed. When a black person harms Asian Americans, as NBC News reported, “experts say it’s important to evaluate each case individually.” All of this is morally base. Anti-Asian animus is anti-Asian animus, whether it comes from woke school administrators or street criminals. To treat such animus differently based solely on the identity of the offender is to make obvious that you simply don’t care about anti-Asian animus. For the left, it’s just the latest club to wield against the broader American system, facts be damned.

Get Off My Property! Before dawn, dozens of union activists invaded a strawberry farm, shouting through bullhorns. This frightened workers and infuriated the farm’s owner, by John Stossel Mike Fahner, who Syndicated Columnist t h o u g h t t h a t i n America, owning property means you have a right to control access to that property -- your home is your castle, and all that. Not in California, where politicians allow union organizers to raid farms.

“If I didn’t allow them, I’m the one going to jail,” says an outraged Fahner in my new video. “That is asinine.” The property invasion law’s supporters say the United Farm Workers union deserves the exception to property rules because rich farmers abuse migrant workers. I threw their argument at Fahner, who replied that it’s absurd to say he abuses workers, because they keep coming back: “450 people travel 400 miles. ... Why in the world, if they were being abused, would they continue to return year after year?” Because they don’t know they

have other options, says the union. They also don’t know about their right to unionize, so unions must come onto farms to tell them about union benefits. The union’s predawn farm invasion didn’t win over many of Fahner’s employees. Fewer than 10% joined the union. Fahner already pays almost double California’s minimum wage. But the protests themselves impose a cost. He only has six weeks to harvest, pack, ship and process his strawberry plants. “If we miss that window, you destroy the fields.” In response to the farmers’ com-

plaints, California Deputy Attorney General Matthew Wise claimed, “Any access to the property is brief, unobtrusive...” But the law allows union organizers to enter a farm three hours a day, up to 120 days a year. That’s hardly “brief” or “unobtrusive.” This week, Fahner and another business, Fowler Packing, challenged the law at the Supreme Court. I hope the Court sends a strong message to California’s union-owned politicians: Get off people’s private property! In earlier court battles, Wise said the exception to private propSee STOSSEL on 29

The Latest Left-Wing Anti-American Lie: ‘Anti-Asian Racism’ John Metzler is on vacation this week. If you rely on The New York Times, the Democratic Party or CNN by Dennis Prager Syndicated Columnist — they are interchangeable — for your perception of reality, you now believe America is reeling from the latest expression of white supremacy: Anti-Asian racism. It is a lie, the purpose of which is to: a) Further demonize America. b) Further demonize white Americans. c) Further divide Americans by race and ethnicity.

d) Reinforce — or create — the belief among Asian Americans that they are widely hated (and must therefore rely on the government and especially the Democratic Party). e) Engender ethnic identity among Asian Americans, most of whom have heretofore essentially considered themselves Americans who happen to be of Asian descent. Is there anti-Asian racism in America? Of course. Ethnic bigotry is a tragic part of the human condition. There is no country in which members of different races live that is bereft of ethnic or racial bigotry. Therefore, the only question decent, wise or honest people ask is: How much? And the answer in America is: very, very little. But the left lacks decency, wisdom

and honesty. Therefore, it offers continuous reporting about anti-Asian racism, most of which so wildly exaggerates the issue as to constitute a lie. Let’s begin with last week’s attack in Atlanta, in which a 21-year-old white man murdered eight people in Asian massage parlors, six of them Asian-Americans. Thus far, there is not a shred of evidence that the Asian Americans were killed because they were Asian. The reason the shooter killed them, according to those who knew him before the shootings and investigators who have spoken to him since the shootings, was that he had a sex addiction, for which he had already been in rehab, and had frequented some or all of the massage establishments he targeted, which he blamed

for contributing to his addiction. As of today, there is also no evidence of the killer ever having expressed any anti-Asian sentiments on social media or in private conversation. Nevertheless, the lying media — a term that has become redundant — have portrayed the shootings from the moment they reported them as anti-Asian racism. Typical is this report in the Los Angeles Times: “Asian Americans and their supporters gathered Saturday across California and the nation in response to this week’s shooting rampage in the Atlanta area, which claimed eight lives, including six women of Asian descent.” The Atlanta lie is part of the greater lie that there is a national epidemic of white suSee PRAGER on 29 premacist

Letters From God This series of Letters From God is an attempt to put the thoughts of God as revealed in the Scriptures as they relate to individuals and the nation of the USA. Every attempt is made to express thoughts according to statements made by God in the Bible. It is written so that we may remain one Nation under God by always following His will, in order to continue to enjoy His blessings of individual and national life that only He, the source of life, can give.

not God, gods (Genesis 3:1-7). As a result of being separated from me, the source of life, death is your constant companion and your destiny. Soon you and every human being will close your eyes and leave the body that has been your home since birth. You will then begin an eternity in one of two places. If you are in a relationship with me, you will enter into my presence and life for eternity. If you are not in a relationship, you will be given your choice and though you will live on for eternity it will not be in the realm of eternal life but with those who will share their eternal destiny with the Devil. He is the author of death who not only rejected me but also deceived you away from me (2 Corinthians 11:3). Your eternal existence will be in an environment where only evil exists and all of the horrible behaviors and problems resulting from sin, that plagued you and others in life, will be unleashed upon all without mitigation. Stick with me and soon you will see the significance of Easter. You can’t change your destiny on your own. You have disobeyed me not once but many times. I am without sin and it’s only if you are without any sin, or acts of disobedience to me and my holiness, even one, that you have a relationship with me. In this condition you will be separated from me and life for eternity (Psalm 49:7-9).

Please understand however that what you can’t do, I did for you, because I love you (Psalm 49:15). I sent my son, Jesus, to visit your earth to change your condition and provide for your need to be perfect. I did this by having my Son remove your sins, all of them, so that they would not be held against you and you could be restored to a relationship with me. How? Since he was and is God, he was also eternal and without sin. He was the only person to walk the earth, who was without sin. He became your Savior by offering his perfect and eternal life to die in your place and pay for your sins. He was the perfect Lamb of God, who’s substitutionary death was accepted by me, as sufficient to remove the penalty of all your sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). If you ask my son to pay your penalty, he will apply his sacrificial death as your substitutionary payment for all your sins. As a result, I will no longer see your sins and I will welcome you back into a relationship with me. I will see no criminal record because my Son will remove your crimes against me, a holy God. Now can you see the importance of Easter. It’s very simple. If Jesus, my Son, had stayed in the grave he wouldn’t have been God, but only a mere man, who would have been sinful as you are. He would have been an imposter and a deceiver. But when he arose

QUESTION: Why is Easter so important to you? Is it really about a Bunny? Thank you for asking. I am so grieved you had to ask me this and that it’s become a secular celebration of a Bunny instead of a Lamb. This day of remembrance is in fact, the most important event in human history and also in your temporal and eternal life. Let me explain why. I created you as a person who lives in a body uniquely fitted for you. I created you to know me and enjoy a relationship with me, the source of life. Since I know no death, you would have lived forever in the body I gave you (Genesis 2:7). But you are dying, physically, mentally, emotionally and morally. I loved you enough to make you with free will so you would not be robots, forced to love and obey me. You, however, used your free will to choose to disobey me and reject me and thereby make yourself and others who are

from the grave three days later, conquering death, he confirmed he was God and also that he was able to pay your eternal debt that separated you from me. Now listen carefully!!! Because he lives, you will live forever, if you trust him to be your Savior (1 Corinthians 15:12-19). He’s alive! Talk to him today and ask him to pay your debt, forgive your sins and give you life. Easter is not about a Bunny but a Lamb, the Lamb of God, my Son, who lived, died and was raised to give you that life. I love you and long to have you back home, God “Letters From God’ is written by a New Hampshire Pastor

Kudos to Loudon Country Club which was once again the region’s first golf course to open up as the snow melted away. Saturday, March 20, saw scores of golfers hit the Loudon links, despite some soggy conditions. There was still snow here and there, but the fact that the water hazards were still frozen saved me a few golf balls when I made my 2021 golf debut on March 21. LCC is one of those enterprises that’s very entrepreneurial. The folks there work hard to stay in business during a time of changing demographics. Older golfers are literally dying off and there are just not as many younger golfers to take their places. While this means teetimes may be easier to get, we do want these courses to stay open. Running an indoor “virtual” golf operation during the winter closes the LCC bar (a minus) but it allows golfers to swing away during the winter without having to fly south (a plus). Another example of that admirable entrepreneurial spirit! ANNOYING SPORTS LECTURES (I) Golden State Warrior coach Steve Kerr is not averse to virtuesignaling via occasional lectures regarding so-

In fairness to Kerr, one should recall that his father, Malcolm Kerr, a professor and a diplomat, was killed by gunmen in Beirut in 1984. (Michael Jordan’s father was also a victim of gun violence.) But when mass shootings occur, the unfortunate knee-jerk response often entails penalizing law-abiding gun owners. Rational as opposed to emotional - responses would be more helpful. I wish virtue-signaling NBA millionaires would also acknowledge the reality that radical Marxist BLM types foster violence all over America, from Minneapolis to Chicago to Portland to Seattle. The NBA did

wisely relax its BLM embrace after its TV ratings crashed last year. NBA social justice lecturers - like insufferable Spurs coach Gregg Popovich - might also consider shining a light on the appalling Chinese policies regarding Hong Kong, Uyghur genocide, or COVID instead of embracing their Communist Chinese basketball business partners. ANNOYING SPORTS LECTURES (II) American women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe recently blasted the NCAA for “completely unacceptable” inequities between its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments. Encounter With A Bobcat by Chris Bosak Contributing Writer

The large field is bordered by hedgerows on three sides and woods on the fourth. Additional hedgerows divide the field perpendicularly about every 100 yards with small cutouts where the trails pass through. I emerged from the woods and spotted something large walking along the east hedgerow about 40 yards away from the trail. It was tan, but then again so was everything else around it: the grass, the weeds, the hedgerow. I stopped in my tracks to watch it. Before my brain fully comprehended the situation, I thought it was either a deer or a mountain lion. I quickly eliminated deer as it was clearly a large cat based on its smooth, stealthy and powerful stride. Can I finally put the mountain lion (or cougar or catamount) debate to rest with solid photos documenting the sighting? I entertained that idea for about two seconds before my brain said: “Hold on. That’s a bobcat.” I dug out my binoculars and confirmed that it was indeed a bobcat. It was my first bobcat sighting in many years and by far the closest and best look I’ve ever had.

A bobcat lays in a field in New England last week. What a magnificent animal. Now I see why many people mistake them for mountain lions. Bobcats are much more substantially sized than a “large house cat,” as I have heard them described in the past. I have a good-sized house cat at home and there’s no comparing it to the bobcat. Male bobcats average around 28 pounds and females around 18. The New Hampshire record, however, is 51 pounds. I fished my camera out of my backpack and took a few photos of the bobcat walk-

ing along the hedgerow. I continued along the trail, which soon curved and headed in the direction of the bobcat, which at this point still hadn’t acknowledged that it knew I was there. I made a loud noise to get its attention. With the trail veering closer to the bobcat, I didn’t want to surprise the animal. I figured it would run or trot off when it heard me, but it froze in its tracks and hunkered down to blend in with the surroundings. If I hadn’t been watching it all See BOSAK on 14

At age 10 or 11, a friend of my dad gave me a telescope he no longer needed. I was so excited, I used it every clear night to look at the moon, Saturn’s rings, Jupiter and anything else I could find in the night sky. I poured over an illustrated astronomy book to discover planet names and constellation locations in the sky at night or early morning. It was intriguing for sure. Fast forward to today and I use an app on my smartphone called SkyView which allows me to find planets and objects using the phone’s camera and global positioning (nerd talk for it finds stuff for you). Anyway, I like to find the International Space Station or ISS using this app which can then be seen as it passes overhead… cool! All of this conjecture is to move us toward an out of this world beer from our friends at Great North. Great North Aleworks is a 20 barrel brewery located in Manchester, NH and owned by Rob and Lisa North, both from Canada (aka Great White North). They both have had many high-

D.A. LONG TAVERN score homebrewing achievements. During 2013, Rob worked at Newburyport Brewing in Rhode Island while they made their plans and finally decided to open their own brewery in 2014. With a dedication to flavor and purity, Great North is making their efforts known quickly around New Hampshire. Their IPA is now being poured at Gillette Stadium for thirsty fans to enjoy. Besides their IPA, look for their Tie Dyed Pale Ale, Moose Juice IPA,

Robust Vanilla Porter and the Hazy Rotation New England IPA series with its many variations. You can also find these beers in 12 oz 6 pks cans, rent 1/2 barrel or 1/6 barrel kegs, or get growlers at their Manchester brewery. Visit them at or their website at www.greatnorthaleworkscom. Double Orbit Hazy Double IPA is an incredibly well balanced beer with both a generous malt backbone and gentle hop bittering. Although Great North

does not publicly divulge what hops are used, their selected combination fits the ale very well. Hazy is the signature for this New England-style IPA, looking more like orange juice with a glistening white bountiful head. Though slightly more hop bittering than malty, Double Orbit captures exactly what true IPA’s are designed around; more than a place ale. BOSAK from 11 along, I never would have spotted it among the sea of tan. I was surprised the bobcat sat still instead of running away. It reminded me of an American bittern trying to elude detection by raising its neck and swaying among the reeds. I continued along the trail, walking backward to keep an eye on the hunkered cat. When enough distance was between us, I turned and finished my walk. I did look over my shoulder several times to make sure I wasn’t being

stalked. Bobcats are the only wild cat throughout most of New England. Lynx may be found in the northern part of the region and the mountain lion debate is too hot a topic for me to get into right now. Bobcats may be found in each of the region’s states. They are shy and avoid people, although many wander into backyards looking for easy meals near bird feeders or chicken coops. Post Winter Care For Your Lawn by Melinda Myers As winter gives way to spring take a walk around the yard. Check the lawn for damage and provide a bit of early season care to help it recover from winter. Use a leaf rake to lightly lift and separate the matted grass blades. This helps speed drying, increase airflow, and reduce the risk of pink and gray snow mold developing and damaging your lawn. These fungal diseases are most common when heavy snowfalls or ice covers non-frozen turf or after late winter snow-

Snow mold appears as circular areas of matted brown grass sometimes found with gray or pink cobweb-like growth over these areas. storms. The damage is usually seen where snow lingers late in the season. Symptoms appear as circular areas of matted brown grass. You

may even see a gray or pink cobweb-like growth over these areas. Fortunately, lawns eventually recover. Reduce the risk of future problems with proper timing of lawn

fertilization. Remove any leaves or debris that ended up on the lawn. Large leaves on the grass capture moisture and prevent sunlight from reaching the plants below. Use leaves you collect as mulch in the garden or add to the compost pile. Look for vole trails in the lawn. These small rodents travel beneath the snow and over the grass in search of food all winter long. Their travels create trails of bare or dead grass. The surrounding grass will eventually fill in the damaged areas. Speed recovery by sprinkling grass seed over the trails. Just mix a handful of grass seed in a mop bucket of topsoil to make a lawn patch. Sprinkle the mixture in the trails, gently tamp and water. Check areas along walks, drives and the street for deicing salt damage. Even if you don’t apply deicing salts, passing cars can spray it onto your lawn. Your car also brings home salt as it travels along salted roadways, depositing salty snow onto the drive. Make sure these areas receive sufficient water this spring. Regular spring showers often do the job. Thoroughly water these areas during dry springtime weather to help wash the salt past the grass roots into the soil below. Consider shoveling first and using plant-friendly deicing salts in the future. This will reduce the need See LAWN on 21

(Family Features) When you decide to make the investment in a home improvement project, you’re likely entrusting a professional contractor to bring your vision to life on time and on budget. Remodeling contractors are diverse, so it’s important to take your time, ask lots of questions and do your research before selecting the right one for the job. Keep in mind these considerations from the experts at the National Association of the Remodeling Industry: Choose local. A local home improvement contractor with an established business in your area is likely connected to your community and has a vested interest in doing a job well. Referrals are an important

source of business for local companies, so local remodelers are typically compelled to perform quality work that satisfies their customers in order for their businesses to survive. Discuss experience. While a skilled remodeler may be willing to take on something new, chances are you’ll be best served by working with someone who has experience with your specific project. A learning curve can be expensive, and the results aren’t always exactly as you hope. Talk about similar projects the contractor has completed in the past and how that work compares to what you’re planning. Also be sure to ask what, if any, outside certifications a contractor may have earned that are perti-

nent to the project. Understand staffing. Be sure you’re clear about who will be in your home completing the work, whether it’s the person you meet to discuss a bid or an assigned team. Ask who the project supervisor will be, and if any work is to be subcontracted, who is ultimately responsible for those tasks. Check references. A reputable contractor should be able to produce a list of past customers who can attest to the remodeler’s workmanship and service. You can contact the government Consumer Affairs Office and the Better Business Bureau to check for complaints on record for the contractor. Also ask if the

remodeler is a member of any trade groups or associations.

(BPT) - You put a lot of care into curating your bedroom, but these days, it may look more like a gym or an office than your sleep sanctuary. In fact, Stanford News points to several nationwide surveys, which found that more than half of Americans now working from home are doing so from their bedrooms. To help reclaim your bedroom as a place designed for sleep, Joy Cho and Corey Damen Jenkins, interior design experts who work with Stearns & Foster - a luxury mattress company known for handcrafted style and comfort - have identified the following design tips and trends to inspire your bedroom design and help you get the sleep sanctu-

Whether bold and dramatic, tranquil and serene, or something in-between, the entryway often sets the tone for a home’s ambience. Details like decorative molding and lattice trim can create a striking entryway for almost any home style.

Bathroom: By updating worn-out items, modernizing fixtures and creating a more functional space, you can expect to recoup up to 50% of a bathroom’s remodel cost, according to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. If you’re considering an on-trend look like shiplap, a practical solution like Royal prefinished PVC Shiplap can help create a clean, comfortable space. It’s waterproof, mold resistant, flexible and works well in spaces with many slants and angles. Plus, it’s lightweight and easy to install.

Exterior: Whether you’re sprucing up an outdoor living space or simply want to boost curb appeal, subtle enhancements can make a big impact. For example, board and batten shutters offer an attractive, lowfuss way to highlight your home’s windows. Painting the front door is another low-cost way to freshen up your exterior. Or invite a touch of nature by adding flower boxes to your front porch or windows. Find more creative inspiration, tools, tips and practical steps for every level of DIY-er at buildroyaldiy.com.

Select a Trim Style to Match Your Home Style The right style of trim can transform a room into a whole new space. A good rule of thumb is to keep the style of trim consistent with your home style and from room to room. Craftsman: The craftsman home style pairs well with simple, tailored and purposeful doors and minimally ornamented window casings while white, light beige and creamcolored crown moulding can create roomier spaces. Colonial: This home style’s rustic simplicity and rich detail call for interior trim that lends a touch of stately courtliness. Choose multi-piece trim and wider baseboards, wainscoting and crown moulding to adorn family room floors, walls and ceilings. Cape Cod: This practical and quaintly unassuming design can be accented by subtle interior trim such as See DIY on 21

DIY from 20 transom windows and sidelights that surround multi-paneled entry doors, casings for double-hung windows, picture rails and frame walls. Modern: The clean expansiveness of this home style lends itself to unadorned window and door casings as well as baseboards. You can go minimalist and use trim merely to protect walls and floors. Alternatively, you could rely on trim to create an appealing contrast with the wall colors.

Ranch: Open, informal and inviting, this style needs trim work that flows from room to room. Many styles work, from simple baseboards to more formal trimmed windows and cabinetry in the kitchen, fireplace mantels in the family room and passageway casings.

Many states, but not all, require contractors to be licensed, bonded or both. Contact your state or local licensing agencies to ensure the contractor meets all requirements. Ask the remodeling contractor for current copies of applicable licenses. Confirm insurance. Ask to see a copy of the remodeling contractor’s certification of insurance or the name of his or her insurance agency to verify coverage. Most states require a contractor to carry worker’s compensation, property

damage and personal liability insurance. Make sure the contractor’s insurance coverage meets all the minimum requirements. Compare bids. There are a number of different factors that go into pricing a remodeling project. Be sure that every estimate reflects the same scope of work. If the estimates don’t fully spell out what work is going to be done, go back to the contractor for clarification in writing. Find more tips for selecting a contractor at remodelingdoneright. com.

or art. Often, people assume they need to start from scratch and then feel overwhelmed while making their bedroom seem more inviting and cozy. Instead, Cho encourages thinking about color like layers - adding pops of a varying shade in small areas or using easily changeable items. Start with a limited color palette and utilize patterns to add depth to your space. “The proper color palette is essential for creating the best sleeping sanctuary,” states Corey Damen Jenkins, the nationally acclaimed interior designer behind Corey Damen Jenkins & Associates. “Certain color combinations may seem amazing in theory, but in application, disrupt sleeping patterns. Everyone is different, so it’s important to know what works for you.” Make It Personal - Decorate using objects with stories to tell, such as heirlooms passed down between generations and items picked up from travel or found at a vintage market. “Pieces that are collected and wellworn add meaning and therefore end up looking much more intentional and thoughtful,” affirms Cho. “Nightstands will always be both in vogue and in need for the bedroom,” says Damen Jenkins.

There are countless options to match your personal style and he encourages people to “think beyond the box,” especially in smaller spaces, as unusual alternatives such as a martini table can sometimes fit a space better than a traditional nightstand. Cozy Up In Bed - While the right décor is important for creating a cozy and inviting space while you are awake, both Damen Jenkins and Cho encourage their clients to invest in top-quality bedding and mattresses to make the biggest difference to your sleep and comfort. Both recommend high end, handcrafted mattresses for an upgraded sleep experience. The certified Master Craftsmen at Stearns & Foster design and handcraft every mattress using plush memory foam and patented, supportive coils - all wrapped in a navy blue velvet border to provide the most luxurious night’s sleep for years to come. Additionally, Cho recommends soft textures for every layer - from your mattress to your duvet cover, comforter and sheets. Cozy bedding looks and feels luxurious, and when paired with a high-quality mattress, is both classic and made to stand the test of time.

— THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, April 1, 2021 — MAILBOAT from 2 Muslim. Anyone committing crimes of mass murder has serious mental health issues with a lack of empathy for the value of human life. They will carry out their actions regardless of the weapons available. Politicians now stand on their soap boxes to express anger for the most recent crime but have ignored for decades the need to address the true problems requiring serious work on mental health care. They consistently push for gun control with the illogical assumption that more restrictive gun laws will eliminate crimes of mass murders. Let’s make a hypothetical assumption that through legislation you could immediately eliminate all firearms in the U.S. Would you expect mass murders to be eliminated? The most deadly mass murders in U.S. history were conducted by airplanes flying into buildings and a truck bomb exploding by use of a common fertilizer mixed with diesel fuel as the weapon. Knives, hatchets, baseball bats and other objects used

as weapons account for most of the murders committed each year. A few years after the 1999 Columbine High School shootings the FBI agent responsible for the Federal investigation was interviewed on NPR and, near the end of the interview the host asked if additional gun control laws should be passed. Unexpectedly, the FBI agent responded by announcing that the two young boys that committed the crime had violated over 120 existing local, State and Federal gun laws. He went on to state that additional gun laws would not have made any difference since the criminals had no intention of following any laws but they did have serious mental health issues that should have been addressed. Following the 2011 Sandy Hook School shooting in Connecticut the Democrat Legislators passed new restrictive gun control laws. After the laws went onto affect, law enforcement officials and firearms experts announced that had those laws been in affect prior to

EASTER from 1 Bunny. I knew where it came from and that was fine with me, so the Easter Bunny was never a big attraction for me, except as a chocolate treat, though I realize that for many young lives the Bunny is like the Christmas Santa Claus. The American tradition as far as a special meal on Easter has long been to serve ham or lamb, just as turkey has been the choice of most for Thanksgiving. My wife tells me that her Mother told her that we have turkey for the Autumn meal because the turkey scratches backwards, and we eat ham for the Spring holiday because pigs root forward. gan rituals of days past, though probably very few, if any, New Hampshire people make, or intend, any connection in their observances to paganism. Many do embrace fantasy and fable, and symbols of the renewing of life in the Spring season. My childhood Easter included the coloring of eggs and an Easter Egg hunt inside the house, and many Christian families still enjoy that activity, sometimes as a church event. I learned at a young age that there was more to Easter than Easter Bunnies, etc. It was, and is, the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and was not intended to be about make-believe but, rather, of real belief of a real event. I was taught the amazing story of Je-

on the original event by meeting at approximately the time of day that Jesus’ disciples, male and female, discovered that the tomb that held his body was empty. Their message is still sounded on Easter Sunday today: “He is risen!” with the reply “He is risen, indeed!” So I remember climbing up a bank to a snow-covered bushy area somewhere beside a road and singing some Easter songs and listening to remarks by the Pastor of our Church in a wintry setting. Another time it was out on the point by Lake Opechee in Laconia as members of several churches gathered together in the cold rain on that important morning. Other times it was in Church parking lots or at a country club on top of a hill, and often

Easter was connected to Palm Sunday and Good Friday, and through the years I learned about the life of Jesus leading up to the Holy Week from Palm Sunday to Easter.

One joy of celebration of the Resurrection throughout my life has been Easter Sunrise Services. My earliest remembrance of these took place here in the Lakes Region at a number of different locations. The purpose of the Sunrise Service is to put special emphasis

— THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, April 1, 2021 — tie it into the spiritual or religious, blending the two. And unbelievers or the undecided will sometimes attend church services in their search of truth. I remember those days in New Hampshire and elsewhere when stores and banks and some other workplaces would close on Good Friday. That allowed Christians to reverently observe the day that Jesus, the Messiah, died on the cross after saying it was for the sins of the people. Some would close shop on Friday afternoons and churches would gather together for the hours between 12 noon and

three in the afternoon for services of hymns, prayers, and sermons to commemorate the death of Jesus on the Cross. The solemn service of Good Friday led up to the triumphant services of the Resurrection Sunday, and the hope of the Christian is sometimes summed up with the cry, “It’s Friday, but Sunday is Coming!” Easter is a day of hope and good-will. The purpose of the Sunrise Service is to put special emphasis on the original event by meeting at approximately the time of day that Jesus’ disciples, male and female, discovered that the tomb that held his body was empty. EASTER from 24 also as His light shines within them. As a Pastor I have participated in Sunrise Services in several states. Sometimes we would share an Easter breakfast together after the Service. I have fond memories of gathering with the members of several small churches each year while in Maine to welcome Easter morning and sing and rejoice over Jesus’ Resurrection in the lodge of a Boy Scout Camp. After a short service we would share fellowship and refreshments before going to our separate churches for the morning services. Things have changed some concerning Easter observances since the days of my youth. “In your Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it...you’ll be the grand-

est lady in the Easter parade.” That song, I’ll have to admit, though a secular one, and written by a Jewish man said to be an agnostic, has helped me to become excited about the prospect of a coming Easter season. In the days of my childhood it was common practice for the ladies to wear hats to church, but particularly on Easter Sunday, when many of them would also wear corsages, often made with orchids. New Spring clothes for Easter were fashionable for both men and women. Church back then was a dress up affair, the thinking obviously being that church services were important events and dress stressed that fact. These days we often find the trend is casual dress or even

dressing down to convey the message that anyone is welcome to attend services without feeling there is a dress code. Some still make an exception for Easter and other special times. Easter used to be, and may still be, the best day for church attendance

in the whole year. That was a sign of the value placed on Resurrection Day, the name many Christians like to use instead of the traditional “Easter.” Christians have combined the two Easters by modifying or applying new meanings to the secular to

Yours truly, Ed, Bria and Danielle on top of Waterville Valley in the fog and rain for spring skiing fun. We skied the whole day and in the afternoon the sun came out and dried us out.

that hold the snow longer. The sun was bright and it was actually hot cross country skiing. Oh the snow was melting away. Charlie and I had enjoyed another wonderful Saturday morning at Bretton Woods. We skied early while the groomed snow was still a little firm and made for nice fast turning. I was glad I put sunscreen on my face. Charlie waxed our skis so when the snow got soft they still gilded nicely. Wednesday I skipped out at lunch time and made five more runs at Pats Peak before they closed on Sunday. It was dreamy sunny and the snow was soft and plentiful on the slopes butwoods were bare. Thursday four of us met up at Waterville Valley. We had planned this outing

the previous week and the forecast had been for sunshine. It was raining as I drove up Interstate 93. We all showed up anyway and skied in the fog and rain. The whole mountain was open though not many trails were freshly groomed. I had some good fun bouncing down the bumps on True Grit and cruising the groomed No Grit to Oblivion was much easier on my legs. The Schwendi Hutte was open but we elected to try out the new Freestyle Lounge on the third floor of the lodge. I had chili, Bria and Ed had Steak and Cheese with a side of fried pickles and Danielle dined on pizza. As we enjoyed our yummy pub food the sun came out. Skiing in the afternoon felt like a different day. SunglassSee PATENAUDE on 27

A sure sign that winter is past and spring has fully arrived is when Charlie begins pruning the blueberry bushes. Anotherr sign is I found a tick on me after lugging the clippings out of the field. It is time to be wary of ticks, ICK!

New Hampshire’s Cannon Mountain, Pats Peak and Waterville Valley are members of the Indy Pass Alliance too. PATENAUDE from 26 es and goggles were needed and our jackets and ski pants dried out. We had a great time skiing. Hopefully while you’re reading this

we’re skiing someplace together again. Waterville again? Cannon? Bretton Woods? We’ll just have to wait and see and check the mountains’ ski reports.

Don’t forget this is the best time to purchase next year’s season passes. Most of the resorts and Nordic centers offer their very best rates from now until the end of May. I made many happy memories skiing locally in our wonderful home State of New

MALKIN from 6 2. He lost both legs during an IED-clearing mission and earned the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Valor and the Purple Heart before joining ICE to combat online child exploitation. The Harvard-educated Lavin was forced to issue a fauxpology after losing her job as a “factchecker” for the onceesteemed New Yorker magazine. But she didn’t retract a single bilious word of a diatribe she penned titled, “No, We Don’t Have To Be Friends with Trump Supporters,” which endorsed hatred and violence against “Nazis” and ICE agents. In it, she brazenly proclaimed: “When they go low, stomp them on the head.”

Lavin then snagged a job as a lecturer for a New York University undergraduate journalism class (canceled for lack of interest) before serving as an “extremism researcher” for the George Soros-funded disinformation operation Media Matters for America, in 2019. She secured a deal with Hachette Books that resulted in a 2020 book on white supremacy (what else?), recently published a feature oped in The Boston Globe on white supremacy (what else?), and was quoted earlier this month in The Forward to bolster the hysterical conspiracy theory that the Conservative Political Action Conference stage was deliberately shaped in the form of a Nazi “runic symbol.” While former President Donald Trump and

countless thousands of conservatives have been purged from social media for expressing lawful, peaceful and truthful conservative opinions, Lavin wields her blue-check-marked and verified Twitter account to spread even more falsehoods. In 2019, she lied on Twitter about being “chased” from a free speech conference in Philadelphia. The problem, as reporters from the Post Millenial pointed out, is that the conference venue was the highly secure and intensely surveilled Sugarhouse Casino. The director of security confirmed that no foot chases or any incidents occurred: “No one got chased.” In 2020, Lavin disseminated a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette photo of an anti-COVID lock-

down activist holding a sign that read, “Work sets you free.” That’s an English translation of the German slogan, “Arbeit macht frei,” which appears over the entrance of the Auschwitz concentration camp. Lavin juxtaposed the two images with her caption: “this is intentional.” Smearing “Reopen America” protesters as Nazis might have worked if not for indie journalist Andy Ngo’s eagle eye. He discovered that the photo had been doctored and that the sign actually read: “Free Small Business.” Instead of owning up to the deception, Lavin deleted the tweet and has spent the past year attacking Ngo as a “fascist grifter.” Spew lies, climb high. At the rate she keeps fabricating upward, Talia Lavin may soon be

co-anchoring the news on MSNBC with fellow serial prevaricator Brian “Choppergate” Williams. Media liberalism has its privileges. — THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, April 1, 2021 — PRAGER from 7 anti-Asian racism. On March 18, for example, The Washington Post reported: “AntiAsian hate crimes have spiked 150 percent since the pandemic began, according to a recent study.” The study cited by The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN and the other leftwing media is from the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino. The 150% increase in anti-Asian American hate crimes is contained in its “Fact Sheet: Anti-Asian Prejudice March 2020,” according to which the number of anti-Asian American incidents rose from 49 in 2019 to 122 in 2020. So, the entire edifice of hate against Asian Americans is predicated on an alleged increase of 73 incidents. Given that there are about 330 million Americans, and assuming a different American was responsible for each of the 122 anti-Asian incidents, that would mean that 1 in every 2,704,918 Americans committed an anti-Asian incident. And “incident” includes perceived slights. As regards violent acts against Asian Americans, according to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics from September 2019, blacks have committed the greatest percentage of violent crimes against Asian Americans. But the mendacious media do not report that. The New York Times, the leader in mass hysterias fomented by the left — hysteria is the oxygen of the left — printed this headline last week: “Attacks on Asian-Americans in New York Stoke Fear,

Anxiety and Anger.” And the subhead reads: “Hate crimes involving Asian-American victims soared in New York City last year.” Focus on the word “soared” and you will appreciate the Times’ commitment to truth. If one reads past the headline — which most people do not — the article gives the actual numbers: “The number of hate crimes with Asian-American victims reported to the New York Police Department jumped to 28 in 2020, from just three the previous year.” You read that right: The number of incidents “soared” and “jumped” to 28. In a city of 8.4 million people, including, as of 2010, over 1 million Asian Americans. So, about 1 in every 300,000 New Yorkers committed a hate crime against an Asian American, and about 1 in every 36,000 Asian Americans living in New York was a victim of a hate crime. To put this number into perspective, the odds of your dying in a motorvehicle accident are about 1 in 9,000. Another New York Times article, under the headline “A Tense Lunar New Year for the Bay Area After Attacks on Asian-Americans,” opens with this: “The videos are graphic and shocking. In January, a local television station showed footage of a young man sprinting toward, then violently shoving to the ground, a man identified as Vicha Ratanapakdee, 84, who had been out for a morning walk in the Anza Vista neighborhood of San Francisco. He later died.” The Times piece never reveals the name or race of the perpetrator: Antoine Watson, a 19-year-old black man.

But, in what could be called “compound lying,” the Times did blame “former President Donald J. Trump, who frequently used racist language to refer to the coronavirus.” Of course, the Times did not provide an example of Trump’s racist language with regard to the coronavirus. One must assume that blaming the Chinese government for the virus or referring to the virus as the “China virus” or “Wuhan virus” is regarded as racist, even though virtually every prior epidemic was named after its city or region of origin: the “Spanish Flu,” “Hong Kong Flu,” “Ebola Virus,” etc. Meanwhile, the blanketing of the country with the Atlanta lie and the anti-Asian violence continues. The cover of this week’s Time features a drawing of a young Asian woman under the headline: “We Are Not Silent: Confronting America’s Legacy of Anti-Asian Violence.” It’s all a lie in service to the left’s hatred of America. STOSSEL from 7 erty rules is justified because “workers remain isolated ... from the flow of information that is characteristic of modern society.” But that’s not true. Maybe it was true in 1975 when the law passed, but now there’s the internet. And cellphones. “Every person has a cellphone in their pocket,” says Fahner “All have phones?” I ask. “Yes,” Fahner replies. “They know how to communicate through Facebook and through Twitter, much better than most!” Even if they didn’t, the union could always approach workers after work at their motels. “All those union people had access to (the motel rooms). They could knock on their door and talk to them about their agenda.” Plus, the union has two radio stations. But it’s much more fun to intimidate businesses with predawn protests. California officials now argue that this Supreme Court case “threatens ... public

health.” Leftist meI asked the United dia like Vox quickly Farm Workers union agrees, claiming that for their side of the d e n y i n g a c c e s s t o story.
