EDUCATING LEADERS TO SERVE CHRIST, HIS CHURCH,
AN D H I S WO R LD T HR O UG H B IBL IC A L T HO UG HT A ND L IF E .
2016 PRESIDENT’S REPORT MIS S IO N A N D V I SI ON Welch College continues to be a “Christian Community of Faith and Learning” for the Free Will Baptist denomination. We are maintaining our commitment to the mission that has sustained us for nearly three-quarters of a century: to educate leaders to serve Christ, His Church, and His world through biblical thought and life.
PRODUCING LEADERS FOR THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD In furthering that mission, we continue to maintain a priority on preparing ministers and missionaries for full-time ministry for the church—at home and abroad. Yet we are moving forward in our vision to educate leaders for the world who can be salt and light in the secular professions while serving as lay leaders in various capacities in local churches. So while we offer 40 programs of study, local church ministry is still going strong at Welch College—65% of our male students are ministers. J. Matthew Pinson President
COM M U N I T Y, S P IR ITU A L F O R M ATI ON, AND ACADEM I C EXCELLENCE We continue to emphasize community, spiritual formation, and academic excellence. We value our tight-knit community with a 10:1 student-faculty ratio, where every student is a name, not a number. At Welch, faculty care not just about students’ academic and professional progress but about their spiritual and emotional growth as well. This dovetails with an emphasis on spiritual formation and how it results in active involvement in local church ministry and the Great Commission. Welch College is increasing its academic excellence every year. In U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges and other rankings, we are ranked alongside colleges and universities that have many times over the endowment, financial resources, WE ARE MOVING FORWARD and enrollment we have. Scores on academic exit exams compete favorably with IN OUR VISION TO EDUCATE America’s best colleges and universities. Two-thirds of Welch faculty now have earned doctorates. We believe that an emphasis on community and spiritual forLEADERS FOR THE WORLD mation need not be divorced from academic excellence. WHO CAN BE SALT AND LIGHT IN THE SECULAR PROFESSIONS WHILE SERVING AS LAY LEADERS IN VARIOUS CAPACITIES IN LOCAL CHURCHES.
A BANNER YEAR This has been a banner year for Welch College. It has been a year of transition, in which our excellent students, faculty, and staff have been operating in a smaller footprint on the West End campus as we prepare to move to the new campus in Gallatin, Tennessee for the Spring 2017 semester. We have had a wonderful year in terms of enrollment and finances. Our numerous calls for our friends to continue to support the general financial operation of the college, and not to take away from that in their support WELCH COLLEGE | 2016 Annual Report

WE ARE POISED TO MOVE WELCH COLLEGE INTO A NEW ERA OF MISSION FULFILLMENT.
of relocation, has resulted in the highest year in annual fund giving in the college’s history. At the same time, things are going very well with the construction of the new campus and our fundraising efforts.
BUILDING ON THE LEGACY SUCCESS I want to thank you for your prayers and support for the Building on the Legacy campaign for campus
relocation. The early stages of the campaign have been more successful than we had ever dreamed possible. We currently have about $8 million in cash and commitments (about $6.5 million of that in cash) toward the Building on the Legacy campaign. We give thanks and praise to God for His bountiful blessing! These early blessings will allow us to increase our campaign goal to $14.4 million (the original goal was $6.5
million). This will enable us to build a full auditorium/chapel, which was left out of the original first-phase plans for the campus. It will also allow us to be debt-free after the completion of the five-year campaign. I encourage you to read more about the campaign and view the latest videos and photos of campus construction at Buildingonthelegacy.com. We thank you for your prayers and support thus far, and we ask you to join us in our campaign for the relocation of Welch College, as we continue Building on the Legacy.
M A S T E R OF A RTS DE GR E E I N T H E O L O G Y AN D M I N I S TRY This year has also witnessed the start of the first-ever regionally accredited master’s program in the National Association of Free Will Baptists, the M.A. degree in Theology and Ministry. We have students enrolled in this program from many different backgrounds. They range in age from under 25 to over 60. They are pastors and church planters and youth pastors and lay leaders. They have graduated from schools like Welch College, Southeastern Free Will Baptist College, Liberty University, the University of Alabama, and Middle Tennessee State University. They are from as far away as Providence, Rhode Island, and Miami, Florida. We thank God for this new program, which is just the start of more graduate education we plan to offer in the future.
POI S E D F O R F U T U R E G R O WT H
lying around us in amazing financial support, we are poised to move Welch College into a new era of mission fulfillment. Yet we cannot continue to advance our mission without your commitment to pray for us, support us financially, and encourage students to enroll at Welch College. We thank you for your dedication to the mission and ministry of Welch College. In Christ,
J. Matthew Pinson President
