The Window of Opportunity is a reference to using periods of time to analyze the Northern Quarter in Brussels. The term itself was originally used by Bogdan & Van Broeck. The firm used a timeline that represented the state and occupation of all the different buildings in the Northern Quarter. Basically it showed the lifespan of the buildings and obliged readers to take a look at the past and the present but also question the future.
Apart from using time fragments to examine the Northern Quarter. I took a look at the past, the present and the future with a certain attitude that originated in my mind due to the window of opportunity, a perspective where opportunities are chosen over challenges.
The way of presenting the message to readers comes from the interpretation of dynamics in real-estate development and urban planning in Brussels. The visuals and their meaning circle around topics as adaptive re-use, identity, preservation, marketing, real-estate development, mixed-use and democratic architecture.
