Aquatics Pool Information DID YOU KNOW...? Diapers As a courtesy to all we request and require that all individuals who are not toilet trained wear specially designed swimming diapers. The Aquatic Centre has both disposable and reusable swim diapers available at our administration desk. The Sportsplex stocks swim diapers in infant, child, youth, and adult sizes. Family Swim Passes The Township offers an annual Family Swim Pass. This is valid for all drop in swims (lane, public, family, adult leisure, special needs, parent and tot). The cost is $365 per year- just a dollar a day! This pass can be used for two adults and up to four children. We offer as well numerous other passes for adults and seniors for a variety of programs. Please call (519) 843-2800 for more information. Feeding your children before swimming: Children may experience nausea while swimming after eating a large meal. Please give your child ample time to digest his or her food before swimming. Please do not feed your child a large meal just prior to swimming. Financial Assistance for Swimming Lessons: The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington provides financial assistance for children in need so they can participate in sports, cultural and recreational activities. Funds are available for the activity of the child’s choice as long as the activity will benefit and enrich his or her own personal development. For further information or information on how to apply, contact the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington at (519) 826-9551. Free Public Swimming NEWDON INDUSTRIES LTD PUBLIC SWIM will provide free admission to the first 40 children and youth entering the 2:00 pm to 3:55 pm public swim on the first Saturday of each month. Gift Ideas Looking for gift ideas? Why not purchase swim tickets or passes for Aquatic programs? Inquire by phone (519) 843-2800. Photos / Videos Patrons wishing to use video cameras or other photographic devices during registered or supervised Township programs, including camera phones and personal digital assistants, may take photographs only of children and patrons in their care. Every attempt must be made to limit or eliminate other patrons from being filmed or photographed in the background. Pool Temperatures We have 3 different pools on our deck. They are

Page 16

maintained at the following temperatures: Main Pool– 28 Celsius (82 Fahrenheit) Leisure Pool– 33.5 Celsius (92 Fahrenheit) Whirl Pool – 38 Celsius (100 Fahrenheit) Private Rentals A private pool rental is a great way to celebrate a birthday or host a special event. Rental times are available Saturdays and Sundays from 4:00pm-5:00 p.m. Call the Supervisor of Aquatic Services at (519) 843-2800 for more information. Spectators Spectators are welcome to watch from the spectator gallery. Viewing lessons from the pool deck is not permitted. Strollers Due to their size, and the possibility of restricting change room exits, unattended strollers are to be left outside of the change rooms. Strollers are not to be on the pool deck. We apologize for the inconvenience, however we need to ensure all exits and the pool deck are maintained free of obstructions in case an evacuation is required. Swimming Lesson Information: Cancelled Classes: Classes with low enrolment will be cancelled approximately 1 week before programs start. Register early to avoid disappointment. Deck Supervisor: During swimming lessons there is a deck supervisor who oversees all lessons. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress he or she is available to answer your questions. Family Lessons: We offer an alternative format of swimming lessons called “Family Lessons”. You can coordinate all your children’s lessons to take place at the same time. Lessons are run in this format on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday evenings, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, and Saturday mornings. PLEASE NOTE: In order to coordinate all of our swimmers, instructors will teach multi level classes. Lessons will be 45 minutes in length to provide additional practice time for swimmers. Missed Classes: If you miss a scheduled lesson we are unable to make them up. Not sure what level to register in? Please call the Sportsplex (519) 843-2800 to arrange a time for a FREE SKILLS ASSESSMENT by one of our Aquatic Staff. Private Lessons Private lessons run in the same nine lesson format as all other lessons. If this doesn’t fit your schedule, we do offer “one time” private lessons. When registering

online for semi private lessons you can register one child online which will reserve the lesson for you. You need to contact the Sportsplex to register the second child. For more information call the Supervisor of Aquatic Services, (519) 843-2800. Swim Lesson Progressions Did you know your child may repeat a level multiple times before completing all of the requirements successfully? When registering your children, please ensure you register them in the correct level. Swimming skills build from one level to the next. If your child hasn’t completed a level, he or she may not have the skills required to be successful in the next level. Swim Lesson Report Cards Your child will receive a report card booklet that will track his or her progress throughout the swimming levels. Please bring your child’s report card to their first class and give it to his or her instructor. If your child is not present for the last swim lesson you can pick up their report card at the front administration counter at the Sportsplex. Transfers You can transfer classes prior to the start of the third lesson if there is space available.

RED CROSS SWIM KIDS $ 80.00 LEVEL 8

Swimmers receive an orientation to water and the pool area and work on submersion, front and back floats, front, back and side glides and kicking. Swimmers build their endurance by working on the 5 metre swim.

Swimmers learn and complete 15 metres of back crawl, demonstrate 15 metres of front crawl while further developing their technique and are introduced to whip kick on their backs. Swimmers build deep water confidence through stride dives and a minute of treading water. An introduction to safe boating skills is also included. Endurance is developed through a 50 metre swim.

This level is an introduction to breast stroke and feetfirst surface dives. Swimmers learn about the dangers of open water, hypothermia, the performance of rescue breathing on children and adults, and standing shallow dives. Swimmers participate in timed treading water activities using the eggbeater skill for 3 minutes. Endurance is built on a 300 metre swim. Front crawl and back crawl distances are increased to 75 metres each.

RED CROSS SWIM KIDS $ 66.00 LEVEL 2 Swimmers focus on building on skills learned in Swim Kids 1, including rhythmic breathing, front and back floats, front, back and side glides with kick and rollover glides. Swimmers work on the 5 metre front swim and learn about deep-water activities and proper use of a Personal Flotation Device (PFD). Fitness activities include the 10 metre flutter kick and a 10 metre distance swim.

RED CROSS SWIM KIDS $ 66.00 LEVEL 3 This level provides an introduction to diving. Deep water skills such as changing direction, 20 seconds of surface support and deep water floats are introduced. Endurance is achieved by building strength in the flutter kick, a 10 metre front swim and a 15 metre swim.

RED CROSS SWIM KIDS $ 66.00 LEVEL 4 This level builds proper front crawl technique through at 10 metre front crawl swim and introduces the back swim with shoulder roll for 15 metres. Swimmers work on kneeling dives, 45 seconds of surface support in deep water and developing a greater sense of selfsafety by understanding their own limits.
