A “PAL” card is available to people with a disability who require assistance to attend recreation programs. These cards can be used in surrounding municipalities including Guelph; Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. The “PAL” card is issued to the person with the disability and allows him or her to be accompanied by a friend, relative, support worker, etc., as their support person who participates as an attendant at no additional cost. A support person can be a different person each time but he/she will help the person with a disability with tasks related to communication, mobility, personal care or medical needs, or with access to goods or services. If you would like to apply for a PAL card to use in neighboring municipalities an application form is available to fill out. There are certain eligibility requirements that must be met to obtain a PAL Card. Application forms are available from the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex, 550 Belsyde Ave, Fergus ON, or by contacting Community Services at 519.846.9691 ext 321

AQUATICS | Pool Information Swimming Lesson information: We offer most swimming levels at every lesson time frame. This format of programming allows parents to register multiple children at the same time. Most lessons are 45 minutes in length in order to provide additional practice time for swimmers. In order to coordinate all of our swimmers, instructors will teach multi-level classes. In order to offer a wide range of lesson times we often combine our Swim Kids 7/8/9 & 10 swimming levels in one class. This fall we are programming some of these lessons with a smaller range of levels. Swim Kids 7/8 classes and Swim Kids 9/10 classes will run separately at the following times: Sundays 7:00-8:00pm, Mondays 7:008:00pm, Wednesdays 7:00-8:00pm
Cancelled Classes Registering early gives us a better idea of which programs are of interest to you. People often wait until the last minute to register, only to find you that the program has been cancelled due to low registration. Register early to increase your program choices. If you are currently enrolled in lessons and concerned about registering in the wrong level you can transfer between levels if a change is needed. check with your child’s instructor after lesson 8. Classes with low enrolment will be cancelled approximately 1 week before programs start.
Change Rooms Children 6 years of age and older must use gender specific change rooms, or the family change room.
Page 14
Deck Supervisor
Swim Lesson Report Cards
During swimming lessons there is a deck supervisor who oversees all lessons. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s progress he or she is available to answer your questions.
Your child will receive a report card booklet that will track his or her progress throughout the swimming levels. Please bring your child’s report card to their first class and give it to his or her instructor. If your child is not present for the last swim lesson you can pick up their report card at the front administration desk at the Sportsplex.
Missed Classes If you miss a scheduled lesson we are unable to make them up.
Not sure what level to register in? Please call the Sportsplex, 519.846.9691 x 321 to arrange a time for a FREE SKILLS ASSESSMENT by one of our Aquatic Staff.
Private Lessons Private lessons run in the same nine lesson format as all other lessons. If this doesn’t fit your schedule, we do offer “one time” private lessons. When registering online for semi private lessons you can register one child online which will reserve the lesson for you. You will need to contact the Sportsplex to register the second child. For more information call the Supervisor of Aquatic Services, 519.846.9691 x 321.
Swim Lesson Progressions Did you know your child may repeat a level multiple times before completing all of the requirements successfully? When registering your children, please ensure you register them in the correct level. Swimming skills build from one level to the next. If your child hasn’t completed a level, he or she may not have the skills required to be successful in the next level.
Swimming with Clothes The Red Cross includes “Swim with clothes” components to lessons to make swimmers more prepared in case of an unexpected fall into water. During our 6th and 9th (or final) lessons all swimmers are reminded to wear clothes over top of their bathing suits. The following clothing is recommended. Pre-School and Swim Kids 1-4 – T-Shirt and Shorts Swim Kids 5-10 – Long Pants, Long sleeve shirts If you forget clothes, or miss the class these skills are included for the experience only. They are not required to complete the level.
Transfers You can transfer classes prior to the start of the third lesson if there is space available.

Canada: now and then ... A GRAND NEW START Presenting the 2017/2018 Season
Eric Goudie Theatre Coordinator Fergus Grand Theatre
It is with great pleasure that I offer up to you the three shows that will make up the first season of presented events at the Fergus Grand Theatre. Our theme for the season is “Canada: now and then...” and it’s a nod not only to the Canada 150 celebrations that are going on throughout the country but also to the renewed commitment by many Canadians to rediscover and reinterpret some of the stories and aspects of our history that have been overlooked or forgotten. I’ve chosen these shows because I think you’ll like them, and because I think they speak to who we are as Canadians: proud, creative, inclusive, tolerant, resourceful, and always ready to have a little fun. See you at the theatre,
Eric

November 15th, 2017 Your country. Your theatre. Your music. The Great Canadian Songbook celebrates Canada’s musical history, from coast to coast to coast. The show includes traditional tunes, timeless classics from Stan Rogers and Stompin’ Tom Connors to Blue Rodeo and The Barenaked Ladies, as well as original songs about this great country, all in one special evening. It also kicks off the Fergus Grand Theatre presenting series, and marks the official grand re-opening after a summer of lobby renovations.

Stories of the Underground Railroad.
A Tribute to Dumbells.
Beginning with the story of the sugar and gold trade in the 1600’s this captivating new musical weaves a story through the centuries. The show is written by Diana Braithwaite, a direct descendant of the first fugitives who arrived in Canada from America.
If nationhood was won on the crest of Vimy Ridge, it was the Dumbells who provided the country with its earliest soundtrack. Formed by members of the Canadian Army’s Third Division—and named for the dumbell in the division’s emblem—The Dumbells bolstered troop morale during the First World War with live “concert parties” featuring irreverent humour that often skewered senior officers and the military system itself.
Rare photographs and unique images provide a rich historical backdrop to the production while a colourful and enchanting musical score with original songs written by Braithwaite and her partner, award winning composer Chris Whiteley, embellish the story with an uplifting musical soundscape.
This show recreates and celebrates the music, mirth and memories of these nearly-forgotten Canadian entertainers.
All shows begin at 8pm | Single tickets: $35 each | Season’s tickets: $75 each for all three shows
