Hiking, biking, or strolling, the year-round paths and trails lead you through our cherished, natural landscape. Some trails permit snowmobiling and horseback riding.
The Elora Cataract Trail
Named after a waterfall on the Credit River, the 47 kilometer historic trailway follows the original Canadian Pacific Railway bed and links the Grand and Credit watersheds. Under stewardship of The Elora Cataract Trailway Association and protected by the Grand River Conservation Authority and the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, this trailway starts on the eastern fringe of Elora. trailway.org
The Trestle Bridge Trail
With awe inspiring views from two bridges along the way, this 4km trail connects Elora and Fergus. Parking and entry are located directly across from Wellington County Museums and Archives.
The Cottonwood Road Trail
Winding through rural farmland this trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail. You can start across from Elora Gorge Park, and link to the Kissing Bridge Trailway that leads to the Waterloo Region. This trail is great for crosscountry skiing, hiking and cycling wellington.ca
The Irvine River Gorge Staircase
Enjoy the view of the gorge from the Irvine Promenade trail or take 60 steps down the staircase into the gorge dip your toes in the water and enjoy the views from river level.
Bissell Park
This short but sweet boardwalk and paved path along the Grand River packs a lot into its 1.8 kms. Sit on the benches by the waterfall, or watch tubers, anglers and kayakers from the walking bridge. Look for the swans, ducks, otters, grey herons and other wildlife that frequent this stretch of the Grand River.
The Aboyne Trail
There is a hidden world surrounding the grounds of the Wellington County Museum and Archives, with outdoor exhibits, including the House of Industry Cemetery, Lime Kilns and Pump House.
The Riverloop Walk
This pedestrian-friendly walk in downtown Fergus offers great views of the Grand River and the lively waterfall in all seasons.
The Upper Grand Gorge Trailway
Take in spectacular views all along this pedestrian only self-guided historic tour that begins in Victoria Park. See the majestic Elora Mill and the Tooth of Time with its cascading water. From Lover’s Leap where the Grand and Irvine Rivers meet, take in the view of the Elora Gorge.

Now in its 45th season, the Elora Festival led by artistic director Mark Vourinen, has established a reputation as Canada’s international choral festival, presenting world-class choirs and vocal ensembles for three weeks in July. The festival’s ensemblein-residence, The Elora Singers, is one of Canada's finest professional chamber choirs.
This year’s Festival will welcome England’s renowned chamber choir The King’s Singers for their only Canadian stop on their tour, jazz vocalist Laila Biali and Montreal’s eclectic ensemble Constantinople. Join The Elora Singers in an exquisite performance of Haydn’s Creation, Bach Day in Elora, the always popular Unplugged show and even a good old fashioned barn dance to name a few! Meadows Music Festival
Let the good times roll at this two-day festival hosted by the Farm League Brewing Company.
Celebrate an exciting lineup of music on two stages that has included The Trews, Crown Land, July Talk Deanna Petland and Dean Brody.

Fly-fish for brown trout in the cool clear water that flows from the Shand Dam through to Elora, or cast your line for northern pike, walleye, white sucker, bullhead, carp, smallmouth bass and yellow perch at some of the local hot spots.
Aboyne Trail
Perfect for fly fishing and for the rod and reel crowd, fish love it under this trestle bridge almost as much as the fishermen do. This section of the Grand River provides easily accessible shorelines for casters, and water shallow enough for waders.
The Grand River is a habitat to many species of fish, and conservation and respect for the environment is vital to our community.
This serene location located on the outskirts of Elora where the Grand River emerges from the Gorge heading westward is ideal for flyfishing. Rod and reel fishermen like the challenge of its shallow waters.

Locals love this tranquil spot. The river is wide, the water shallow, and the fly fishing exceptional.
Blair Park and the Grand Arboretum Trail
The shallow waters here make a perfect place to wade in and drop a lure, cast your line or fly-fish.
Shand Dam
Try your luck where the water flows from Belwood Lake. This popular fishing spot boasts a bounty of brown trout, pike, perch, walleye and bullhead.
Belwood Lake
This small, quiet lake is the perfect spot for the sport. The reservoir is ideal for northern pike, walleye, smallmouth bass, carp, crappie and yellow perch in the warmer seasons, and great for yellow perch, walleye and northern pike in winter. Operated by the Grand River Conservation Authority, the park includes two ponds stocked with trout, making it ideal for younger and less experienced fishers.
Bissell Park
Several vantage points for cast fishing line the footpaths along the water’s edge where the water gains speed. Just steps from downtown Elora, it’s a great spot for casual fishing and features one of our beautiful waterfalls.
Confederation Park
The pools below the waterfall just before the Grand River gains speed heading into downtown Fergus, are filled with fish. The calm, quiet stretch before the waterfall is also an ideal spot for enthusiasts to try their luck.
Templin Gardens
Located just behind the library in downtown Fergus, you can cast off the limestone stairs at Templin Gardens. The deep, rapid flowing water creates a whirlpool at this excellent fishing destination.
Gow Park
Located on Union Street in Fergus, this small inlet is a popular spot to cast fish and watch the river flow slow.

Aboyne Trail – The Trestle Bridge
This former railway bridge crosses the Grand River providing a unique vantage point to view the beauty of Aboyne, located mid-way between Fergus and Elora. The sunrises and sunsets are mesmerising here. From the bridge, wander to the majestic grounds of the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
Elora Quarry

The David Street Bridge

For centuries, this landmark named for its unique shape, has held its place amidst the rushing waters of the Grand River. Locals and visitors have been drawn to its raw, resilient beauty. This rebuilt pedestrian bridge is a favourite for locals and visitors. With viewing extensions and plenty of room, it offers spectacular views of the Grand River, the Elora Mill and historic downtown Elora.
Lover's Leap
Located in Elora's Victoria Park, this legendary lookout towers above the connecting waters of the Irvine and Grand rivers. With views of caves and trees that spring from the surrounding rock, Lover's Leap is renowned as a romantic, dreamy perch for engagements and wedding vows.
The Milligan Footbridge
This bridge spans the Grand River in downtown Fergus and is the perfect place for photos and to enjoy the views of the limestone cliffs and waterfalls that flow into a whirlpool basin before heading downstream to Elora. Linger at night when bright lights cascade on mesmerizing, rushing water.
Templin Gardens
The gorgeous, curated gardens located behind the shops of St Andrew Street W in Fergus, boast sculptures, and quiet places to sit and dream. Bissell Park

Elora Gorge Conservation Area
