PreSident’S meSSage

mayor’S meSSage

Welcome Everyone;

On behalf of the Township of Mapleton, I would like to welcome everyone to our community and to the 157th annual Drayton Fair.

As president of the fair board, the directors and I would extend an invite to everyone out to the 157th year of the fair. Lots to see and do for all ages. The theme this year is Celebrating 100 Years of 4H in Canada, so please make sure to visit all the exciting exhibits on the fairgrounds. We are always looking for new members and new ideas. We will see everyone at the fair! Please bring a friend.

This annual event dates back to 1856 when my great, great, great grandfather’s family was farming in this community. At that time it was an important social event where people would visit but also a chance for them to show off their field and garden crops of the year as well as their livestock, in a friendly competition. Today that tradition still exists in an expanded format to include the entire family in the competition as well as the weekend of fun and entertainment. Our thanks and congratulations go to the Mapleton Agriculture Society and the many volunteers who make it happen.

President; Brad Schieck

We hope you will join us at the “Drayton Fair” and enjoy the many events that are planned. Bruce Whale, Mayor

Someone who has my colour hair, and picks the kind of clothes I wear. Someone who thinks the thoughts I think, and drinks the drinks I like to drink. Who walks and talks my special way, and plays the games I choose to play.

Ations by Shel Silverstein If we meet and I say, “Hi,” That’s a salutation. If you ask me how I feel, That’s consideration. If we stop and talk awhile, That’s a conversation. If we understand each other, That’s communication. If we argue, scream and fight, That’s an altercation. If later we apologize, That’s reconciliation. If we help each other home, That’s cooperation. And all these ations added up Make civilization. (And if I say this is a wonderful poem, Is that exaggeration?) GraDeS 7 anD 8

9. WRITE the following with pen, on lined, 3-ringed binder paper: The Birthplace by Robert Frost Here further up the mountain slope Than there was ever any hope, My father built, enclosed a spring, Strung chains of wall round everything, Subdued the growth of earth to grass, And brought our various lives to pass. A dozen girls and boys we were. The mountain seemed to like the stir, And made of us a little whileWith always something in her smile. Today she wouldn’t know our name. (No girl’s, of course, has stayed the same.) The mountain pushed us off her knees. And now her lap’s full of trees.

So many kinds of folks I see, but only I can be a ME.
