President’s Message
On behalf of the Township of Mapleton, I would like to welcome everyone to our community and to the 156th annual Drayton Fair. This annual event dates back to 1856 when my great, great, great grandfather’s family was farming in this community. At that time it was an important social event where people would visit but also a chance for them to show off their field and garden crops of the year as well as their livestock, in a friendly competition. Today that tradition still exists in an expanded format to include the entire family in the competition as well as the weekend of fun and entertainment. Our thanks and congratulations go to the Mapleton Agriculture Society and the many volunteers who make it happen. We hope you will join us at the “Drayton Fair” and enjoy the many events that are planned.
Welcome Everyone; As president of the fair board, I would like to welcome everyone back to the Drayton fair this year. We strongly believe we’re doing something right, as you are helping us to celebrate 156 years and we’re still counting. Each year we try to incorporate some new and exciting things to keep everyone entertained. In addition we’re always looking for new members to join our board to keep things going with fresh new ideas. So please bring out the family, friends, grandparents and pets there’s something for everyone to do that will help make memories out at the Drayton fair. President; Brad Schieck

1. All exhibitors, spectators and participants must pay admission - a wristband will be issued. Children 12 & under are Free. 2.
All exhibits, except livestock, will be judged on the first day of the show and must be entered with the Secretary and on the grounds between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Thursday, or 8:30- 11:00 a.m. Friday. Judging will start at 12:00 p.m. Friday. All livestock must be entered with the Secretary, and on the grounds before 10:00 a.m. the day of showing and judging to start at 11:00 a.m. unless otherwise stated.
3. While the Directors will take every possible precaution under the circumstances to secure safety of articles sent to the exhibition, the owners must take the responsibility and the risk of exhibiting and should any article be accidentally injured, lost or stolen, the Directors will give all the assistance in their powers towards recovery but will not make any payments for the value thereof. 4. Persons exhibiting articles not their own and not in accordance with these rules, shall forfeit all prizes. 5.
All stock must be bona fide property of exhibitor at time of entry to entitle him to a premium and in all grains, roots, fruits and dairy, produce must be the property of the exhibitor, the growth of the most recent crop year, and the production of the present farm or holding.
6. All articles included in the Homecraft Division must be the production of the house exhibiting it and the Director in charge of Division has the authority to call for an affidavit. 7. A piece of each entry will be kept on show and the remaining pie, cake, etc., will be allowed to be taken home at 4:30 p.m. Friday, or when judging is completed. 8. An exhibitor may enter only one entry per class, with the exception that an exhibitor in livestock classes may have two entries in any class. 9. Root vegetables are: beets, carrots, parsnips, turnips, rutabagas, radishes and sugar beets. Vegetables should be cleaned and uniform in size and shape. 10. Membership fee is $10.00. If an adult exhibitor has earned over $20 in prize money, a membership fee, for the next year, of $10 will be retained. This ensures you will receive a copy of the next year’s advance prize list and a copy of the fair book. Exhibitors under the age of 18 are not required to pay the membership fee of $10. 11. The Society will not be responsible for any loss, damage or accident occurring to any property on the grounds during the fair. 12. In the case of an error in the printing of the prize list, the Directors have the power to rectify the same.
14. No person shall be allowed to go near the judges during their inspection of stock except the Directors appointed for that purpose whose duty it shall be to preserve order and point out the various lots. 15. All exhibits in harness classes must be shown in a suitable vehicle. 16. Exhibitors of purebred stock must produce to the Secretary, previous to entry, satisfactory Certificates of Registration in their different Class Books, or give satisfactory evidence that they are entitled to be registered in the same. 17. Brood mares must be accompanied by their foals or satisfactory proof furnished that they have suckled a foal during the present season. 18. Proof of at least one million dollars liability insurance must be shown by all livestock exhibitors and event participants. 19. All livestock must be shown in the judging ring in order to be awarded prize money. 20. No animals shall be removed from the show grounds until 3:00 p.m. without permission. All stock, produce or other articles exhibited are at risk of the owner and bulls must be secured by the proper rings to prevent mischief. To accommodate exhibitors at a distance the Secretary will receive entries by mail

SPECIAL NOTE In case of bad or unfavorable weather, or other reasons causing the receipts to fall short of paying expenses, a proportionate amount, exclusive of membership, will be deducted from such prizes, to enable Directors to balance the amounts collected, and not leave the whole sum to be a debt to bear heavily on the Society and thus impair its usefulness.
PRIVACY OF INFORMATION POLICY Any information collected by the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society regarding members, exhibitors, commercial exhibitors, sponsors, directors and any other persons related directly to the business of the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society and the Drayton Fair, will be used solely for the purposes of promotion of the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society and the Drayton Fair, and for maintenance of their files and data base. Any member, exhibitor, commercial exhibitor, sponsor or director realizes that when they agree to take part in the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society and the Drayton Fair, their names may be published for these reasons only. None of this information, whatsoever, will be sold or transferred to any outside party for any reason.
13. No prize will be paid until the books are properly made up, and all complaints, if any, heard and decided by the Directors.

Ambassador
of the
Fair Message
For the last few months I have had the privilege of representing the Drayton-Mapleton Agricultural Society as the fair ambassador. Throughout the last year I have had many fun experiences. From handing out ribbons to meeting all of the entries in the pet show I had an amazing time this year. Last fall I attended the District 7 annual meeting in Wellsley and was able to meet local ambassadors from out district. I also had the opportunity to travel to the Ontario Association of Agricultural Society’s Annual Convention in February. There I participated in the ambassador program and met many new people from across the province. Overall, during my time as ambassador I have made many new friends and met many new people. I look forward to representing the fair at the Canadian National Exhibition at the end of August and would like to wish all of the contestants good luck at the upcoming fair.

Ambassador of the Fair Competition
Who will be the next Ambassador of the Fair? Competition Date: Wednesday August 8, 2012 8:00 pm at the Drayton Chop House To be eligible to compete: 1. Contestants, male or female, must be 17 years of age or over by August 1, 2012.
2. Contestants must be a resident of Mapleton Township or surrounding area.
3. Contestants will be interviewed by a panel of 3 judges. Contestants are required to give a 2 to 3 minute speech on Agriculture, Agricultural Societies or some aspect of the Drayton Fair. 4. Contestants will be judged on their interview and speech, community knowledge and involvement, personality, appearance, deportment and presentation. 5.
Contestants must be available to carry out duties during at least one of the three fair dates. Contestants are asked to disclose any scheduling conflicts prior to the competition. The Ambassador is expected to participate Fair events. The Ambassador will represent the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society at various functions in the community.

The winner (Ambassador) will represent the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society at the next year’s (2012) Canadian National Exhibition Ambassador of the Fairs Contest. The Ambassador is to represent the Drayton and Mapleton Agricultural Society at the Annual Convention of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies in February 2012.
7. Bursaries of $500.00 to the Ambassador , $250.00 to the Runner Up, and $100.00 to each contestant will be awarded by the Drayton Mapleton Agricultural Society. All bursaries including the Ambassador will be available to each contestant on Sunday August 7, 2011. To promote the participation of local farmers in area tractor pulls the Drayton, Grand River and Fergus Agricultural Societies would like to award a top cash prize and trophy to the top pullers in local farm tractor classes. Points will be accumulated in the 22,000 lbs local farm class, and the 32,000 lbs local farm class. After the Fergus Fall Fair tractor pull, the point winners from each class will be awarded a $100 prize, a trophy, and be crowned the “King of the Hill” in Wellington County local farm classes.

Pupils must enter exhibits only at their grade level (not above or below). No entry may be exhibited for more than two years. In the Crafts & Hobbies class, please enter only one piece of work per child in the sections “Any other piece or work (craft or artwork)”. All exhibits done at school will be picked up by a Director during the last week of June. All exhibits done at home are to be placed in the exhibition hall between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Thursday August 9th or between 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Friday August 10th.
